The Obama 30-minute commercial, deserved its buzz – here’s Tom Shales:
Although McCain was not seen during the half-hour, one could easily summon the contrasting image of the Republican while watching Obama. McCain has come across on television as relatively worried, whiny, fusty and falsely folksy. He brought bad news; he has come to epitomize and personify it. Obama brings you medication along with the list of symptoms; he has developed a great bedside, as well as fireside, manner.
Ouch. I guess America isn’t ready for a ICU visit from Dr. Krauthammer.
But fear not, John McCain, David Broder still hopes to share a Werther’s Original and a loving, short-armed embrace:
The campaign has been costly in terms of McCain’s reputation. He has been condemned for small-minded partisanship, not praised for his generous and important suggestion that the major-party candidates stump the country together, conducting weekly joint town hall meetings — an innovation Obama turned down.
Because nothing is more mavericky than wanting to have your ass-kicked by your much younger, yet more mature opponent, ten times instead of three.
That’s sado-masochism you can believe in, my friends…well, that and Matlock.

“Last Call for Boomers” my dyin ass!
Oh god…
best McCain/Palin ad ever…politics of fear anyone?

A chaste farewell salute from David Broder.
Anybody asked Broder how that ‘Bush bounce’ is coming along?
How do you get one of these jobs?
Obviously being able to correctly analyze anyone or anything is not a requirement.
Citizen Raven:
Where were ya tanight when I was holdin’ the gate for us boomers against the goths and the visagoths of Generation X??!!
And nobody’s gunna mess with yer “dyin’ ass” but we ain’t gunna kiss it either!
Keep the the faith, Brother!
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Cohen and Kristof in the NYT today. Ms. Collins has “The Last Week Quiz,” and says this presidential race has been a great ride, but we need to take a break. She dares us to answer her end-of-the-endless-election quiz. Mr. Cohen considers “American Stories” and says in no other country could Barack Obama have risen so far and so fast. Such boundless possibility is what America once stood for and can stand for again. Mr. Kristof asks “What? Me Biased?” and says this 2008 election is a milestone and may put a black man in the White House. That creates an opportunity for an adult conversation about the complexities of race.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes and bacon this morning. The suggestion that this election is some sort of “last call” for folks like me is a bit irksome. I’m not quite ready to start considering the sod from the other side yet… Have a great day.
Oh, I go to bed at 10pm!
“John McCain, David Broder still hopes to share …… a loving, short-armed embrace”
Yuckety yuckety, pass the brain bleach
My work here is done.
“But I got to tell you, every time I’m around her, I’m uplifted. This is a solid, dedicated, reformer. A fine governor.”
John McCain
Citizen Raven:
“Oh, I go to bed at 10pm!”
Yeah, and I believe those flyin pigs wear lipstick and paint their fuckin toenails!
Christ Almighty!!! Is Broder still on that shit??!! That is sooo September, man. But I guess it’s still important ’cause if Obama had only
accepted his invitation, McCain wouldn’t have had to be so small-mindedly partisan.
Just curious. Who’s older? McCain or Broder?
What will it take for David Broder to retire? He can spend time with McLame barbecuing, eating donuts and looking at their scrapbooks. For the love of country please retire!
OK. I’m happy with the rally last night. 35,000 people? Wow! My big fear was it would be a small crowd and the msm would seize on that as evidence that Obamna had “lost hsi momentum” or that “the momentum had shifted” or that “badly outspent due to Obama breaking his promise to accept public campaign funding, and saddled with the most unpopular President in history, the McCain campaign has brilliantly defied all the odds….” Well, we’re still hearing that from some quarters. But nobody i knew (self included) who went to Obama’s rally here two weeks ago-or was it last week?– went last night, so based on that I figured it might not be a big crowd. And ya gotta understand, Floridians don’t seem to deal too well with 50 degree/high 40 degree weather.
LOL. Glad for your work. Good post. Ya know, if I was Larry King, i would have told McCain to go fuck himself after he blew me off because what’s-her-face ripped little Tucker a new asshole. Was Barack on TDS last night?
Answer to my question: yes. the video is at Huffington Post.
Just watched TDS video. The part about Obama’s white half falling victim to the “Bradley effect’ was funny.
Good Morning, Firepups! {{waves hello to Marion}}
It’s clear and cold this morning in central Jersey. We’ve had quite the cold snap this week. Part of northwestern Jersey got 10 inches of snow on Tuesday.
Well, Mr. NJP and I gave up television about 3 weeks after 9/11. All of the NY metro area coverage was about ground zero and all of the innocent people who died that clear day in September. We had never gotten cable, and with the destruction of the north tower, we lost the antenna that gave us most NY broadcast coverage. So the stories were troubling, and reception was awful.
We turned the tube off, and went for long walks in the evening, replacing a bad habit with a good one. We still rent movies, and watch them, and about two or three times a year we’ll turn the teevee on to watch something, like the US Open tennis finals or the Bob Dylan documentary. Last night was one of those nights. We watched the Obama infomercial.
Afterword, talking about it, we decided that if Obama can manage government as well as he has managed his campaign, we will all be in a better place in four years. Being a community organizer really gave him a lesson in how to listen to people, and how to use their stories to help folks see what they have in common. It was very impressive. And St. John can’t do anything like it.
Marion, I’ll have to take a pass on the pancakes. I’ve put out another pot of coffee, and some hot water, and a big tray of bagels, with cream cheese, butter, and some blackberry preserves. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
Oooooh… Blackberry preserves are just about my favorites. [sneaks off with a big spoonful to have on toast later]
IT’s the Blinky and Winky Show!
Grand Old P0rn. lol, when i google GOP i get an ad for Estate of Panic.

And the lines for early voting are still huge…
When you are the Dean of The Village, being correct — or competent — about anything is not a requirement. Just ask Cokie. Correct would be soooooooooo exotic.
Notice from the bio pic just who’s the one sittin’ in the rockin’ chair.
LOL.
This is not good. I gotta find me some college kids and
kick their assespersuade them to go to the polls.http://www.orlandosentinel.com…..3353.story
Happy Intrepid Ibex!
News from the NH polls is definitely good for the Dems. Was at a political function last evening at which there were a number of Indy voters. The main topic of conversation was the goopers attempts to hamper/stop voting across the nation. People are getting really pissed and the phone call jamming in NH during the election 6 years ago has not been forgotten. I do believe that the average American feels the right to vote, whether exercised or not, is an absolute right and any attempts to fuck with it is considered an unforgivable sin. As for the Palin effect, she was considered by all but one person as a joke and that person thought she was good for the goopers because she is/was sexy. Not an opinion to be taken seriously, somewhat like David Brooks.
McCrabby’s losing in Ohio, but it’s not his fault.
It’s the economy, and Obama’s money advantage.
See, Obama’s got this money tree in his backyard in Chicago.
It’s not like he went out, presented his ideas to the country, and raised the money primarily from small donors or anything.
As for the economy, McHoover’s just had tough luck, it’s not like he’s been in the Senate over 20 years and voted for the policies that have us in this financial hellhole over 90% of the time or anything.
No, it’s just bad timing.
OT
They were supposed to be finished by 2011, but construction has been on hold for lack of funds. (The stadium, which bears Mr. Pickens’ name, already exists).

Oil Hedge fund losing money? I wonder how the Bush Family trust is doing. I wonder how this will affect Texas voting?
Morning everyone. Speaking of sadism, I’m watching MoJoe. He was hammering Obama on that LA Times tape. No one mentioned the McCain connection.
They did, however, mock the McC/King interview as having a death-like feeling.

Put the coffee in a thermos for Barack who is going to need it for his quick trip to Arizona (maybe).
Breaking at 5:20 am EDT: Obama may be coming to AZ.

Arizona reminds me of a line in the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine (yes, I go back that far). “Blueish, you don’t look Blueish!
What I find fascinating is the price of a gallon of gas. Manipulation? We should all figure out a way to buy it and store it for when it returns to $4/gallon mid November.
McCain and Palin: The Fusty and Slutsy Show.
Further to the early voting turnout numbers. I believe that the numbers demonstrate the need for a two day voting period or a national holiday for election day. Tuesday is damn hard for people as it is a working day so taking time off to go and vote is tough especially as it often means taking two or three hours for the process. With an election day holiday making it easier for the working stiff to vote would mean the Dems would never lose again!
Marion, NJprogrssive
From a born NY-er, Marion, you gotta understand that it’s got to be Bagels.
It’s the Jersey thing, half Garden state, half Shadow New York City, and more interesting for being both. Definitely not the hole in the middle between Phillie and NYC.
(Princeton even has a political research center devoted to proving it.)
See my ode to your breakfast below in an answer to Marion.

‘zactly. In fact, if it wasn’t for McCain’s bad timing and bum luck he’d be way ahead. Obama should be up by 47 points right now.
Seattle 58 degree high currently 49 degrees still haven’t turned on the heat new insulated windows are a big help 59 degrees indoors.
Shorts and a hoodie with the hood up most of your body heat escapes from your head so covering it really helps.
Unless your a 30%er if your brain is dead it doesn’t generate heat..
I’m definitely not counting any chickens before they’ve hatched, but it certainly would be sweet to enjoy a landslide Tuesday night.
If Obama can win AZ AND IN, then my own personal long national nightmare will finally be over.
Why Phillies win is good for Dems carrying PA.

a one hanky or a put on your dancing shoes story.
Congrats from a BlueRedSox fan.
That’s right. What i would give for a Jersey or York bagel. But after being down here 3 years, i’ve given up. Taylor ham, too.
Thanks
and that’s happy news about Arizona too. would love it if McCain lost his own state….
I’ve long held voting should start Saturday 7am, go until 7pm then rap up Sunday at 4pm.
This would allow the west coast to be done by 7pm eastern, and allow for almost all results to be announced by midnight.
Except VA & NV, I don’t think Obama will win any red states. Wait. Wee IA & NH red in ‘04? Them too. Not looking for a landlside by any means. But we can hope.
WOW. WHEE!
longer me: definitely good news.
I am sending it on to a group from Women for Obama New England who have all moved to Derry NH to work on GOTV.
We are not being complacent in the BlueState.
absolutely, people are standing in line for hours a week BEFORE the election.
we can hope and continue to work for it.
Zabars will fedex bagels I’ll bet.
But the best bagels are in little stores where they are still the old size.
NYtimes did an article 4-5 years ago on where to find authentic bagels. But I doubt they do fed ex.
Bah hahahahaha! Hysterical post, Attaturk! And so true. Cue the McCain porno commercial to help save the campaign!
Morning all :)
OT (but of course :))
Syria is seriously pissed at US…
‘Hundreds of Syrian riot police ringed the shuttered and closed U.S. Embassy in Damascus on Thursday, as tens of thousands of Syrians converged on a central square for a government-orchestrated protest to denounce a deadly U.S. raid near the Iraqi border.
The troops, wearing helmets and armed with batons and shields, took up positions around the embassy and the adjacent U.S. residence building. Two fire engines were parked nearby although the massive anti-American rally was to take place at a square about 1.6 kilometers away.’

All-Got to go work for me before working GOTV. Will be out there tmr this time so will miss sharing breakfast with you. Back on Sat.
Actually it’s true, 10pm, up at 5.
Don’t drive unless you have which in this economy isn’t hard. A demand drop in gas because of the economy can and has dropped the price.
I think the price fixing was before to make the price higher Bush used the war as an excuse.
As long as our troops were not winning oil prices were high, until the economy broke.
Who benefits from high oil prices a Texas oilman, and the CEO of HAL.
I agree prices are down for the election and that some manipulation is going on, but its not enough to sway the election.
$2 a gallon gas maybe a for a year before the election would have got the economy going this drop was a joke.
It was a let them eat cake moment.
Did you hear Bill Clinton say in his introduction speech of Barack to not be fooled by the low gas prices? It was beautiful. If anyone knows how the Oil Maggots try to manipulate the general American public, it’s Clinton. He even went on to say the oil maggots are gonna get a rude awakening when Barack’s team goes alternative on them! Loved it.
As I have offered before, I readily acknowledge the darkside is always at work, but I think the blow up of the providers of leverage to the hedge funds (Lehman Bros., Merrill Lynch etc.) has had far more to do with gas prices coming down.
And, because access to crazy amounts of leverage isn’t coming back anytime soon, hopefully we’ll stay below $3/gal. for a long while.
CNN reporting Joe the Plumber is getting ready to sign a record deal. WTF!!!!! Hysterical and pathetic at the same time. They’re also reporting he’s never sung a song in his life.
Read about Palin and the noose yesterday. Wingnuts were beside themselves.
Will ya hear about this? Will they say anything about this?
http://www.orlandosentinel.com…..0919.story
did you happen to see the link I posted for you in Christy’s “Wire” thread last night ?
Mornin’ All
Anytime someone goes up to visit they get some bagels at a bagle store freeze ‘em and bring ‘em back. they’re gone in a couple days.
25% of the vote cast lines still huge why oh why can’t I get this news on the MSM?
Maybe some interviews with voters about who they will vote for? Maybe some mention of where this early voting is coming from the Dem areas? the GOP areas? or is it about even?
We make our own, organic, bagels now as we do not trust the genetically altered flours most retail bakeries use. My wife and I enjoy sitting in front of the wood stove eating our very own warm bagels with homemade cheese and homemade strawberry jam. All organic and all delicious.
Gotta run, Pups
I went down to the bagel shop and picked up some more for everyone, especially the ex-pats. Congrats to all the Phillies phans–it was a very long wait for them.
Remember–give what you can to Act Blue now, when the candidates can still use the money. Every dollar helps! And if you can, help with GOTV efforts.
There’s a new day coming!
More fair and balanced stuff we ned to make an informed decision o the imporatnt issues fadcing the country. It’s on FOX’s web page. Nothing about the rally last night that i could see.
