Early Morning Swim: Special Obama On The Daily Show Edition

  • Headline to love: "McCain camp trying to scapegoat Palin."
  • The Obama ad buy: flexing his muscle.
  • Reax to the Obamamercial here.
  • One of the Tuckers denies the Palin ’12 talk.
  • Palin: "I’m not calling him unAmerican."
  • George Will: "John the Careless."
  • Yeah, this would not be funny.
  • Francis Fukuyama turns out to be black.
  • I find this picture a little disturbing.

John McCain’s Running Mate Says the Media Have Misrepresented Her Message to Women

Palin shrugged it off and said the “double standard” made her more determined to “work that much harder for the women in America to show them that that final, hard-as-glass ceiling must be broken.”

Is glass “hard”? Maybe if ya chew on it. Think that’s what she means?

Good morning, BT. I can’t stop laughing at the new word we got from Attaturk’s post:

fusty

It just describes McCain so well:

1 British : impaired by age or dampness : moldy
2: saturated with dust and stale odors : musty
3: rigidly old-fashioned or reactionary

McFusty for Prez!

Yeah, we’re pushing really hard on the UF kids, too. Last numbers I saw, a couple of days ago, showed the 18-24 group lagging the others for early voting. One person who’s talked to a lot of them says their response is they’re planning to take the day off Tuesday and all vote together. They apparently even say they want to stand in long lines then. I sure hope they follow through, they are the difference in this one.

I did see an “I Report” at CNN.com that showed that they closed down Bethune Cookman on Monday so the students could go vote. There were awesome pictures of huge swarms of students standing in line to vote at the early voting site.

Yeah my wife noted that he seemed a lot more deferential than usual. I reminded her that he seems the same way with McCain. As I recall, he was also pretty subdued with Tony Blair and even with Musharraf. I think he’s just trying to show a little more respect to actual leaders. That’s very hard to accomplish when his whole image is predicated on pointing out the shallowness and cynicism of our leaders.

Nope, they have to go about a mile and a half east to the County Admin building. Only three early voting sites in Alachua County. There are at least two polling sites on campus (maybe more?) that will be open on Tuesday, however.

They only have EV at libraries, Board of Elections. i never went to a library when I was in college, so i guess the low turnout-so far-is understandable. tere really isn’t an EV site that close to UCF. I feel a l;ittle better about the kids, now.

The paucity of early voting sites in some counties, 3 in Pinellas, is not playing well with the electorate. The more jaded among us think it’s just another voter suppression tactic by Rethug election supervisors. Clark in Pinellas told the county commission it was due to budget constraints. The county commission, majority Rethugs, never mentioned giving more money to her. Nor did she ask. Status quo politics. The “keep the black man down” mindset dies hard.

what has you so vexed about the FL youth vote ? is there some indication out there that they are not voting ???

without knowing your source, I’d like to point out the establishment media loves them some “but the youth don’t show up” it’s one of their binkys and they cling to it, tend to see it everywhere.

younger voters in CA turned out in record numbers for their primary but the Corp Media found 2 or 3 districts in LA where there was an under vote and ran buck wild with it

we aren’t gonna know crap until 11/5 and I’ll get my demographic reporting frorm the interwebs thank you very much

Indiana back to toss-up status:

The poll, by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines, Iowa, showed Obama backed by 45.9 percent of those polled, and McCain by 45.3 percent. Given the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, the race is a toss-up.

Rachel Maddow last night had some university prof who does number crunching sadistics on the vote. It didn’t sound great. It SOUNDED as if the “youth vote” were, as usual, underperforming. Too busy with their vapid and ridiculous Paris Hilton-like lifestyles to do something boring like vote (you know, parties and shopping).

I swear, if the snot-nosed kids sit on their overindulged asses AGAIN…

Here are the latest numbers I have, as of 10/27 for Florida’s 6th Congressional district:

Age————–Voters—-%—% voted
18 to 24———5,987—5.6—-9.0
25 to 33———8,635—8.1—-9.4
35 to 49——–19,752–18.6—14.2
50 to 64——–32,310–30.4—24.0
65+————-39,583–37.2—31.2
Unknown————–4—0.0—-0.2
Total———-106,271–18.9—18.9

Hard to read, but the senior voters as of that date had turned out 31% of their registered voters and the kids only 9%.
