I’ve yet to see a McCain ad that emits on one-hundredth of the emotional pull of this simple video, and contrary to what the McCain Campaign and rightwing pundits claim, McCain’s emotional ads are always about why he deserves to be President, never why we will have a better country when he is President.

I am wiping tears off of my cheeks right now. Thanks Charles. Thanks attaturk. Thanks FireDogLake. Thanks Barack Obama. God Bless everybody.
Citizen Attaturk:
I saw that earlier this PM on another site (Digby, I think) and I was reminded of how, if we’re lucky, once in a lifetime we get ta ride on history’s shoulders…well, those who are my age have had a couple shots at it with Martin King , Bobby and Jack, Malcom, the young heroes met in the sweaty air of Vietnam and my Gampa Ole. Charles is God’s offering of another chance ta get it right for us.
Palin/McInsane appealling to the meaner side of human nature. They are drawing from the side of America that is the dirty laundry of democracy. The flat out lies and the mean remarks are just shocking. I am glad I do not watch a TV set.
The video in a liberal college town Boulder has a lot of progressive ideas for solving environmental problems.
Boulder Location:
Rocky Mountain Institute

His FDR comments were well taken here Walll Street has no motivation but profit. There is no reason to let them take our national treasury, which Bushco has given them, public policy does not belong on Wall Street.
Reagonimics has been a disater for democracy and the middle class. I have never made it to the middle class so I guess I have zero representation.
Viewed this video on Dkos yesterday and encouraged Pups and other progressive sites to take a look at it. Brought tears to my eyes. It can’t help but move anyone with a heart. Not having hearts, just wallets, Republicons would not be moved.
Norske, once again you have captured essence and significance. Thanks
The Boulder office is blessed with a real New Deal Democrat.
Citizen StonyPillow:
My mother is 85 years old and a New Dealer. There is somethin’ about folks that grew up in the 20’s and 30’s, they have shit detectors…my mother said when Mrs. Clinton announced she was runnin’ for President that her picture should go on the $3 bill.
For you early risers here’s a fun site you might enjoy.

Cast your vote and take a look at what people around the world have to say. McCain is leading in Albania and Macedonia.
OT but related.

Charles’ generation knew restraint in use, not a bad lesson. Will it be too late to learn it again?
away
BSRH is a returning prodigal poster. Is there a reorientation session for we once and now again pups? While waiting, let me take a big plunge into the lake:
There is Charles, and he made me cry.
But he is hardly alone. There were also yesterday 3 other 3 hanky diaries on Dkos:
The 9k people who rallied for Obama in Chester, PA in pouring rain. A sense of the significance of it being Chester comes from a friend who canvassed there during the primaries She was stalked and harassed by a driver who after following her, parked at home to find that Obama material has been hung from her doorknob. The woman promptly took the material with its photo of Obama and hung it upside down, yelling that’s what going to happen to your candidate, the N word. Well-schooled volunteer that she is, my friend merely said : Don’t forget to vote. And returned to HQ still shaking.

If you are tearing up at the start, you may bawl when you get midway to the photo of the AA holding a hope sign.
Cause the c. 45 year old man is bawling too.
And then there is the AA and usually not so AA-friendly Philadelphians who found that Obama brought them together more than the Phillies’ win of the NLCS did. (This Red Sox fan is convinced. Go Phillies.)

and finally. this is how a nice Jewish girl who is not sarah silvermann got her parents to vote obama, by talking about their death. Don’t miss the Mom’s response, it’s a classic yes dear, but in a good way.

Welcome HOME! Once Lake oriented, there *is* no other direction. *G*
wrt to rally in Chester……..how telling that the Dems went ahead full-force despite rain; the republics cancelled due to weather. Says all that needs to be said about the @holes; too bad corp. media didn’t pick up on the difference.
Not only did they not pick up on that they didn’t pick up on the fact that the hockey arena where Palin/McCain spoke had a lot of empty seats. Our cracker jack media carrying water for their pay masters.
Must have coffee!
Good morning, pups. It’s [sigh] MoDo and Friedman today. MoDo’s writing fiction again. I really wish someone at the Times would tell her that they’ll refuse to pay for her overheated fantasizing. Today she gives us “For Your Consideration,” and has produced a “screenplay” about how in an Ohio hotel suite, two McCain aides ponder how Sarah Palin got away. Mr. Friedman thinks they’re “Sleepless in Tehran,” and that the collapse of oil prices should give the United States leverage with Iran, but it should be used smartly.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got apple walnut muffins. It’s 35° here this morning, which would appear to be colder than it is in Brattleboro, VT. We’re not used to having to scrape frost off the windshield in October. BRRRRRR…. Have a good day.
Dang, pretty mushy around here this morning. Where’s our resident sckeptics, out rallying for Mc Kinney?
[Jumps up and down, waving] Welcome back!!! We’ve missed you.
Saw?read somewhere that at that first puck drop thingie palin did, the thug owner of the place?team used canned applause to override the boos. As you can tell from the “?”s, that’s a reeeeeeeal fuzzy memory and may just as easily not be true at all (it does have a rather left bloggish flavor *g*).
Hi Raven
Will you settle for cranky girl?
Hey, Marion -
Any day modo doesn’t go after Dems is a positive on my tally sheet. *g* It *was* silly and frivolous; guess she’s channeling her inner SNL.
BlueStateRedHead!!!
welcome back – great to see you!
i’ll vote for Charles – what a great guy.
Wouldn’t surprise me. Everything about the Republicons is artificial, manufactured, phony.
She’s been savaging the Republicans ever since McThuselah tossed her off the plane.
Citizen Raven:
“Where’s our resident sckeptics(sic)…”
I’m right here boss but I’m “runnin’ on empty”…been workin all nite.
Citizen demi:
Careful Sister demi…the Raven has been known ta despoil reputations!
O wins and she’ll return to back-stabbing Dems……but, for the moment, I’m enjoying the reprieve. That chuck off the plane business was just one among thousands of dumb-dumb moves on the part of the mcpalin campaign (probably directly from the @sshole-in-chief himself). Maybe it’s time to start a Hugh’s List of stooooopid moves on the republics’ part this fall.
Fair-weather candidate and fair-weather Americans: that’s the GOP! Obama and supporters braved the rain in Pennsylvania; McCain cancelled.
Thanks to the firedogs for this video. Charles is the type of “real American” who makes this country generally a decent place to live. May he live those four or five years and more, so he can see what a black president can do.
Marion – for you @ 26.
I’ll vote for a new deal…one that every person has the basic needs. Nobody left out in the cold.
Good Morning, Wow that is a powerful youtube. This is the first election season that I can remember that democratic candidates for office are running ads featuring the democratic Presidential candidate. In GA they usually try to hide their affiliation with the top of the ticket.
You’re right. I think the list of stoopid would be impossibly long, however. Off to slave in the salt mines.
The people like Charles are dying off. probably most of our parents are dead. There’s not enough people around who lived through that time to let the younger ones know about FDR. That’s where it begins for me. Before I ever supported Obama (or Edwards) I was a Democrat. Probably because my dad and to a lesser extent my mom drilled into my head the many ways FDR helped them, personally, and how the Republicans did not. Guess it falls to us to pass this word on and tell our parents’ stories.
This is what it’s all about.
Welcome back, Now off for more hankies after reading the posts you linked to.
Run this ad in Ohio.
Thank you for sharing this Attaturk.
Simply wonderful.
Bogus. Everything. Even McCain’s war hgero stuff. It’s not that it’s a phony story. But by all accounts McCain was sick of telling it. then he got the nomonation and they packages it for him and made it a centerpiece of his campaign. Bogus.
that sounds good to me.
Absolutely. Great piece and great observation about how R ads are about McCain – not about us.
Charlie Crist extended EV hours. We’d been asking for this and just Monday the Sec of State said it wasn’t even being considered. Not great news but good news. And good news is…. well…. good.
’twas a dark and stormy night here, the entire leaf population has gone from tree to ground so the cts have a lot of chasing to do.
Poor MoDo fancies herself a writer hopefully the NYT will soon realize she is not.
Aaahhhh Raven, as a cynic and skeptic I have to thank you mightily. I had Tiago in the Breeders Cup and, as a joke, thinking of your “moron” comments added Raven’s Pass to the mix. A VERY nice win thank you very much. Mmmm yeas I am still voting for Cynthia and working hard to get progressives elected…..not corporate candidates.
Socialist
from my notes (canvassing for lamont in CT, 2006):
listening to stories from that era was a good reminder of what is at stake. i got involved because of the war, but there are a lot of other reasons to be outraged at the direction our country has taken.
Breaking news!!! Joe the Plumber has come out and endorsed John McLame.
Muffins sound great. Got my coffee already. madea beeline forn that after i got up. 44 in central Florida, which passes for cold here and has the locals saying Brrrrr and bundled up – scarves and all. Not kidding. the weather’s beautiful lately and is expected to continue. High 60’s -low 70’s. No clouds. C’mon down people!!!! The state is broke. We need tourists spending $$$. Gas is ‘cheap’ again! Ya know that vacation you skipped over teh summer when gas was $4? take it now.
Damnit! And all we get is Colin Powell.
I look at the elctoral map and I’m still worried about it being a long night. then again…. Did McCain go out on a limband predict a win in NC to get the troops fired up? Uh. Dummy. You’re supposed to win NC.
Humanist
That’s a funny story about the $3 bill. Yeah, they can spot bullshit. they’ve heard it before- or some version of it.
Citizen Beerfart Liberal:
Yer on ta somethin’ there Citizen, I taught a long time ago and it was jest a few years after gettin outta the Army…the first class I TA’d for had the “Vietnam War” as a chapter in the basic text and a few years later when my wife was teachin’ readin’ to a couple a 3rd graders she showed ‘em “Vietnam” on the map and had ‘em sound it out…one little Huck Finn type jumped up and said “Vietnam ain’t a country, it’s a war!!”
The point is that we have allowed ourselves and our children to be disarticulated from out history…it’s a kind of “future shock” but it’s also our failure to introduce our kids to our parents…I grew up with the Great Depression and WWI and WWII as part of my life since my Grampa Ole and Gramma Edith still lived in the one bedroom house in which they raised 8 kids. All the stories of hoppin frieghts ta follow the harvest and plantin’ trees with the “CCC’s” kinda ran inta one another with the stories of shippin out and comin home…my kids grew up knowin my mother (who is still alive at 85yrs.) but it wasn’t until jest recently that all three of ‘em have been spendin a lotta time with her and sharin’ that history as adults instead a kids.
Sigh…my generation has dropped the ball when it comes ta keepin our hiastory and truth alive but the public school system has been a disaster too.
Socialist, humanist, commie-nist, anti-Americanist, blah, blah, blah. same difference.
Speaking of prior movements, for some reason the whole Joe the Plumber thing, in terms of its logic, narrative, and the subject himself, keeps reminding me of the pet rock fad. Try as I might, I just haven’t been able to connect any of the dots which explain either phenomenon.
DKos daily tracking poll has Obama up by six, 50, 44. Last week Obama was up by 12, 54, 41. McCain has been gaining a point every day http://dailykos.com/ Troubling.
Marion, all early morning posters, it’s BSRH.
Remember BSRH? Well she did not fall off the face of the flat earth believed in by freepers. This spring, life took me in new directions which did not leave time for posting as much in as many places as once. Somehow that place got to be Dkos. It’s that Trusted User thing. You get it and want to be a responsible user of your HR privilege and keep it. Which means even more posting. The primaries unfortunately produced opportunities to exercise TU responsibility. Then, bingo after the primaries ended with a bang, we began a house move: 25 years of stuff including 8 rooms full of books. Books in kitchen closets. Books under beds. Books shelves triple loaded.
So there were a couple of months where I spent a ton of time in lurking mode.
And now I would like to return to the Lake. Marion we had talked about putting together a menu for FDL post election celebratory breakfasts. I have some of the suggestions we received before I went into lurk mode. Still interested?
So sad, again, can’t enjoy the video w/o captions. Websites have advanced to the point where there’s lots of videos, but not advanced enough to have an option for captions.
The kids read a few pages about the Depression and just have no idea. I guess what my generation can do is educate them about the 60’s, civil rights, etc. they get a few pages on that in history, too. But the 30-40’s are sooo important. Saw the birth of so much we take for granted. there was a war that actually had support back home….. so much stuff. in fact, in elementary school (I went to a “grammar school. Whatever happened to grammar school?)
Mushy? In what respect, raven?
yup.
I’m getting nervous too. Did you see that the repubs are distributing millions of slime dvd’s that must be so bad that they can’t be aired. And there’s a new ad out in swing states which include Atta. Let’s hope Obama seals the deal tonight.
yup. I guess there are easy, comforting explanations. But i’m not into them right now. i think it’s stupid to be into them right now (even if they’re right). troubling indeed.
On the plus side, I see no way for McC to reach 270. There’d have to be a massive shift. My focus is on PA. Obama’s still up by 11-12 points. If he wins that state, it would be absolutely impossible for him to lose.
I’, curious to see what kind off turnout in Kissimmee late tonight. Scheduled for 11pm. Not that close to the city and not a big minority or college kid population. I said not a big minority pipulation and I guess that’s wrong. there are alot of hispanics. if it’s a shitty turnout, we’ll hear about it all day and night Thursday.
“Vietnam ain’t a country, it’s a war!!”
Tell me you’re kidding.
“Vietnam ain’t a country, it’s a war!!”
Tell me you’re kidding, Norske.
McCain could win with the same elctoral maop as Bush. Likely? No. But I’m just sayin’ the trend in some polls isn’t to my liking. I don’t feel like not knowing until we see how CO goes.
OT-Rachel Maddow said last night that the Supreme Court ruled that college kids can vote where they go to school. I’ve read a couple diaries written by college kids who were informed that they could not. Maybe they got bogus letters aiming to suppress their vote or maybe some states are playing by different rules. At any rate, this needs more exposure.
See this at Huffington?
We were approached by the Obama campaign and declined their request. We did not want to pre-empt our programming lineup with a 30-minute spot. We rather use our air to continue to cover the campaign, candidates and issues like we always do from all points of view with the best political team on television.
That’s CNN. They didn’t want to pre-empt their lineup? what lineup? larry king? assholes.
transcript from DKos link sorry, I know it’s not the same
and look what I found while looking in to How To Caption -
Mornin’ All
(((((HUGGING CHARLES & BARACK)))))
Great video! Thanks Attaturk for posting it! ;-)
Traditional Republicon talking points seem to be resonating with ”independents”. Obama hasn’t been hitting back hard enough and for the last week McCain has been slowly climbing. Letting the cons define Obama is making inroads on the terminally ignorant. Plus the Republicans have come home and there is a lot of ”soft” Democratic support.
I have been thinking about going back and I’ve had to tell people just the opposite, it’s not a war it’s country.
McCain is running a Joe the Plumber ad that people are saying is very effective with ”average” Americans. I really hope this is not slipping away and people end up saying on Nov. 5 that Palin/McCain ran a ”brilliant” campaign.
That’s CNN = Caucasian Nabob Network
CNN doing interview w/Jane Mayer wrt palin’s intro to the pundits on their cruise ships to Alaska. “She is not the rube and outsider she makes herself out to be.”
right. I agree 10000% with you prior comment too. I don’t like Obama spending a week on his “closing argument” while he’s being attacked non-stop.
Good news.
Morning all,
Did the 5- 9 shift at the call center last night here in one of CO swing districts. The hills were alive with the sound of volunteers. The place was hopping. We’re opening a new office to deal with the GOTV effort. Yard signs and bumper stickers are running about 60 – 40 for Obama.
I sure hope not,
Craig Ferguson did a routine on that
Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania. We win that, it’s over.
Good morning, CBL. Change your log on.
oops, BT’s up
Just heard that Obama’s lead in NC has evaporated. McCain’s ”closing” argument is attack, attack, attack and Obama is over confident. Americans always have a sympathy for the perceived underdog and are wary of over confidence.
Ed Rendell has expressed concern about all the ”soft” Democratic support in PA.
There’s nothing I can add to that other than a heartfelt Hear, Hear!
I hope my read is correct; that there’s a bit o’ the drama queen in him.
wowy zowy. so touched to be remembered to be missed. little modest snoopy dance (strangely something not allowed at dkos).
now to work on menus. you can write to me at Bluestateredhead at gmail com.
Charles, I’m with you. My first vote was for Lyndon Johnson, though the Vietnam War really did him in for me. I have never voted for a Republican for President….only a couple of times for much of anything else. My son-in-law explained to me what a “yellow-dog” Democrat was….someone who would vote for a yellow dog if the Democrats ran one. I realized that I probably am a YDD. The last eight years have made me proud to be one.
The Republicans in my district crossed over in the primary and nominated the worst Democrat running for Representative. He still beats the awful, psalm-singing weiner the Republicans are running…so he gets my vote.
Hooray for yellow dogs.
Golly. What a way to start the morning. Making people happy by making them cry. Thanks for reading. thank the dkos posters for reporting and the chesters and the phillies and the Jewish parents for being open to change.
Thanks Selise. it’s a beautiful morning in the BlueState, where, since the end of baseball, the only red to be seen is on the maples. Hope it is the same red in your bluish thereabouts.
Thanks for welcome. Never envied anyone who got soaked more. lucky you.
I keep saying seniors (depression/wwii generation) are the ticket. They can put us “kids” to shame with their can-do spirit and energy when they work on a campaign.
My God, my God. Please make the world a better place.
