Oh my.  Jake Tapper has a fascinating post about Sarah Palin’s deleterious effects on her political allies.  First he talks about how she made the shopping spree story worse by continuing to shop, and continuing to talk about shopping, then he lists all the Alaskan political figures she used and then stabbed in the back:

o Wasilla mayor John Stein mentored Palin when she ran for City Council.  She repaid him by running against him two years later, defeating him with a smear campaign implying he was neither Christian nor legally married (both untrue).

o Wasilla Councilman Nick Carney, also mentored Palin in her City Council run.  She froze him out after he endorsed Stein for mayor, then falsely accused him of corruption.

o State Senate President Lyda Green was an ally in the 90s, and an enemy after 2006 when she didn’t endorse Palin (or anyone) for governor.  Giggled gleefully while Anchorage shock jock said horribly mean-spirited things about Green.

o Conservative talk radio host Nick Fagan went from friend to enemy after criticizing her for raising taxes on oil companies.

o Governor Frank Murkowski – Okay, I’ll give her a pass on that one.

Tapper concludes:

[S]ome McCain allies are now quite suspect of Palin and worried that Sen. McCain is going to become just the latest Palin ally whom she uses – and then discards — in her rapid ascendance to power.

Even if true, I just can’t feel sorry for McCain – he picked Palin as his running mate for the worst of reasons, and with almost no vetting beyond "Dobson likes her."  Now the GOP is paying the price for his recklessness, and the rest of the world won’t.

As for "Our Sarah," I have a hard time seeing her advancing any farther than Senator no matter how many snowcoaches she throws McCain under.  Granted, if George W. Bush can get elected, anything can happen, but I’m hoping that by 2012 or 2016, progressives will have a big enough megaphone to remind America what happens when you vote based on who you’d rather party with.
