It’s a great reminder to get out and vote. Get your friends and neighbors and relatives out to vote. Report any election problems to Election Protection at 1-866-OUR-VOTE. Some news on the election prospects:
– Todd Beeton talks about his early voting experience and urges you to talk to your boss about taking election day off to help GOTV.
– Charlie Savage reports on the highly rightward tilt of the federal courts. In case you were looking for yet another reason to cast a Democratic ballot, this is it for me.
– The Witchita Eagle endorses Pat Roberts’ challenger, Jim Slattery, for KS Senate because they "concluded that Roberts should be held accountable for his deep involvement in disastrous intelligence decisions." Good on them!
– More voting problems in Florida? And continued questions about problems in WV. (Where, incidentally, as of Saturday more than 67,000 voters had already cast early ballots.)
– Michael Scherer publishes a leaked internal McCain campaign sunshine memo. And Nate calls bullshit on it.
– Real world perspectives on the economy. Great series.
– Now THIS is inspiring.
How are things looking where you live? Any problems cropping up — is the participation in early voting brisk? If you aren’t happy with the way things are, do some work to GOTV for a candidate you like. Be the change you want to see…and remember to VOTE!

Record early voting is a very good sign. Voters are motivated for change . . .
The Witchita Eagle endorses Pat Roberts’ challenger, Jim Slattery, for KS Senate because they “concluded that Roberts should be held accountable for his deep involvement in disastrous intelligence decisions.”
WoOt!
our polling location was changed this year – and not only were signs posted all over the place weeks in advance, we also all got a robo call to let us know. i was impressed.
I’m going to vote tomorrow.
bwaaahaaahaaaa …y’all know ol Patsy comes from a newspaper family, and was himself a jounalism major.
Patsy is currently up by 10, hope this helps Mr Slattery
Did I say motivated for change? Hungry. Starved.
That is impressive.. they changed ours in ‘06.. Due to no notice, I had to drive nearly 40 extra miles to vote that day.
“The Witchita Eagle endorses Pat Roberts’ challenger, Jim Slattery, for KS Senate because they “concluded that Roberts should be held accountable for his deep involvement in disastrous intelligence decisions.” Good on them!”
The Kansas City Star also endorsed Slattery.
yep. 12 hrs a day in FL woohoo! Thank you Charlie Crist for being a vindictive, ruthless, backstabbing SOB (toward his own party’s candidate).
one of the few down sides of living in the country?
… guess i’m going to have to decide who to vote for pretty soon. *g*
I’m reserving judgement on that. Still worried about purging and vote-flipping.
Read that McC is robo-calling in ARIZONA !
Gotta say my head is spinning here in Florida.
Charlie Crist is definitely playing both sides. First, he disses the ACORN story on a national conference call. Then he goes against his entire party to extend early voting hours (to what they should have been before the Republican legislature decided to cut back on democracy). So then he follows it up by showing up at today’s McCain rally in Florida. As far as I know, his marriage is still planned for mid-December.
Yesterday we got 3500 people to show up for a rally for Biden that started at 11 am with the temperature 40 degrees (way too cold for most Floridians). At that rally, we learned from Bill Nelson that our rally for Michelle Obama in Gainesville last week was the largest turnout (11,000) for Michelle in the entire campaign.
Most of the Florida polls today are in the 2-4 point Obama lead range, but Bloomberg is showing a 7 point lead for Obama.
All in all, I’d say things are looking pretty good, but with that Jacksonville story lurking, I won’t relax until this thing is completely over.
McCain is up 10 points over Obama here… So it made things easy for me.
At this point, I have the feeling that Johnny Mac is starting to feel that the only way he can’t get stabbed in the back any more is to lay flat on the ground wrapped in Kevlar.
your diary was good voting news today
oh I am too.. the rethug machine is still capable of doing great evil down there… but, still. Gotta appreciate a good rethug jackarse, for what it’s worth (and he really is one).
I’ve been trying to vote early for a week here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I went right after work and again an hour an a half later and the line was STILL stretched half a block long and about 6 people deep. They said it would be a 2 – 2 1/2 hour wait at minimum. I had to get on home to do some work so I will try again Saturday when I can go and stand in line for hours. I’m very happy to see such a high turnout and will be even happier if it results in an Obama win in this very red, very conservative district….
If Obama wins the Kerry states plus Iowa and Virginia- he’s the next prez.
He leads by 12 in Iowa and by 8 in Virginia.
He wouldn’t trade places with McBush at this moment.
I’m going to vote tomorrow.
Need an “I Voted!” sticker?
I seem to have accumulated a whole bunch of them when I voted.
(whistling innocently)
Well, golly selise, your *g* means you’re jes’ funnin’ with us. Right? *g*
why thank you Elliot. the news was a stunner
I’m in Sth Florida now, on business. gotta say that I’ve seen a roughly equal quantity of Insane and Obama signs in Ft Lauderdale… maybe slight advantage Obama. Someone was walking a pack of dogs, all wrapped in Obama sweats.
i hadn’t even checked MA until just now (not that there was any doubt – and i’m not sure it would have affected my decision)… but it looks like we’re about double that.
Christy, are you looking into the WV vote flipping? Waybright and the other repug election commissioner don’t seem to instill any confidence that they’re on it…!
I love those stickers…. used to make my employees vote early and wear them all day. Never did ask how they voted.
I used to live down there, really resented the special treatment the Cubans got.
Can remember when 34 Haitians washed up on the beach, Ho-hum. But if it had been Cubans…
sorry… actually serious – nader or mckinney?
It could be worse. freepatriot just said this over at Marcy’s:
That’s just downright frightening.
we don’t get stickers.
Voted early in Harris County, Texas (where Houston is), on Saturday. Took about half an hour. My partner (who is blind) said that the audio voting booth sucked, but he says that it always sucks, so this wasn’t new. The polling place was VERY well run (50-100 people in line ahead of us, and we were in and out in 30 minutes). The word is that Harris County might go blue, which hasn’t happened in a long while.
Double? Meaning Obama is up 10?
I’m planning on wearing 7 or 8 on Nov. 4th.
I voted on Oct. 8.
I wanna do it again.
please tell me that they were just saying that because they didn’t like to answer the question?
oops forgot the *pout*
If he loses, I hope Arizonians make a good run at ousting him from the Senate in ‘10
more than 20.
That’s just wrong.
I think it was actually 6%.
Florida – *s*
Our polling place changed too, but it was prominently publicized in the Savannah Daily Disappointment and on the local TV and radio news, replete with suggestions of multiple ways you could find out where your new polling place was. It was well done, which surprised the crap out of me!
My mother and I voted easily and early here in NC. I know there has been concern about the NC ballot but the poll workers were very clear, concise and complete in their instructions. Also, the Obama campaign is all over this. He mentioned it today in his rally in Raleigh.
Now if we could just get rid of the odious Liddy Dole. Hew latest anti-Hagan ad is as slimy as anything Í ever saw from Helms.
I had to look at my clock to make sure I wasn’t missing something.
Christy?
At night?
WOOT!
Hi Christy!
I am very much looking forward to celebrating here next Tuesday.
Wow! I’ve considered walking into the county clerks office tomorrow and asking for a zig zag (ticket) ballot… but that might not go over so well in Berryville Arkansas. /s
didn’t GA just refuse to extend voting hours?
I heard it, thought she said 3 percent
maybe these were people who were interested in a different race, perhaps Congressional or local, and actually didn’t give much thought as to whom they would cast their vote for in the presidential race?
What’s really wrong is some of PA counties won’t let you vote wearing a candidate’s T-shirt. My county’s cool on this but outside Philly, in Montgomery County, they are gonna be pricks about it.
Christy, locally things appear smooth where I live. I am a little perturbed that the absentee ballots will be counted in front of the public on Monday, November 3rd at 10am. 10am!!!????? I wished they had scheduled it at 6pm or later. I honestly wanted to be there to watch it. Oh well. I know for a fact that local Democrats will be there and did hear on the radio today that many precincts are needing republicans to participate at the polls. Say wha? The republicans are being lazy about an election? Really? Shocker!
Dole ad being dissed on Rachel.
2 outs, 2 strikes, bottom of the ninth
Off to do cartwheels down Broad Street!11!
made this for you today but must have just missed ya when I got back to the threads :D
I hear that is a no no in AR as well, even a single bumper sticker on a vehicle parked to close to the entrance can cause trouble. Also learned they have to ask you for ID or DL, but you can refuse to show it and still vote.
Exactly our experience here in Savannah. We’re going to be as close to the first on line on Friday morning (I’m used to being at work at 7:30 and the early voting places don’t open until 8, so it’s not a problem) and I’ll be loaded for bear. Mr. Marion in Savannah tried this morning but the polling place was still all locked up over 15 minutes after it was supposed to be open. I’m armed with the GA Secretary of State’s phone number(s) and also 1-866-OUR-VOTE, and I’ll be digging into Obama’s site for more trouble reporting numbers. If we run into problems on Friday I’ll stand on line starting at 7:00 AM on Tuesday for as long as it takes. The early voting is STAGGERING. And it’s not McCain folks that I saw on line…
I just ran it back.
6% didn’t know in Florida. 3% in Ohio.
Be safe! Congrats!
Lordy. I’m with selise in hoping they really just didn’t want to say…
For those who weren’t able to watch the 30 minute infomercial by Barack:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtREqAmLsoA
Enjoy!
Thanks eCAHN…that’s great news. The Hagan campaign has issued a cease and desist letter from its attorneys and may go to court for an injunction to stop the ad from running.
Even if the ad’s not pulled, it’s terrific to finally see Dems push back.
Latest #’s posted for Orange County, FL show a little slack-off:
Dem 45,005
R 16,275
Other 13,810
TTL 75,090
This is almost as many as the entire EV period in 2004. I’m sure 2004 was exceeded today.
Dem 37,604
R 25,595
Other 16,003
ttl 79,202
Those #’s are thru Tuesday. Now. the ratio of us to them had consistently been 3-1 and is now less. Total’s are about 16% of our registered voters. 13% of the R’s. Really not that great. Guess I know what I’m doing over the weekend.
Ain’t THAT the gospel truth! They tried their Swift Boat shit and it blew up in their faces like a loaded cigar. Finally….
A group of us traveled to Colorado this past weekend to do some GOTV for the local Obama headquarters. Some of us ended up in Glenwood Springs, a real nice little town on I-70. Met some great folks at the headquarters, and had some very interesting conversations with citizens while canvassing. I got a real positive feeling, that that area is turning from red to blue. We did meet a few ‘Bubba’ personalities, some were the personification of the stereotype, and others, we were able to hold conversations and discussion with. Really made me feel there is hope, I was really pumped when I got home.
by the time you finish with that damn FL ballot, it is hard to remember
Yes, Ds seemed to be growing just a little backbone this year.
C-SPAN is also re-airing Barack’s 30 minute commercial too if anyone is interested or can’t play YouTube videos.
The Election Transparency Coalition of NY is readying our legal efforts to keep all software based voting machines out of our state and retain our dependable, transparent lever voting machines. We are looking for attorneys to assist our legal team. For more info go to our website ( http://www.re-mediaetc.org )or contact joanne@re-mediaetc.org
I’m with selise in hoping they really just didn’t want to say…
that’s what I figured when I saw it….
Fantastic. ;-)
what are the infomercial reviews on MSM? positive?
One’s vote IS supposed to be able to be secret. Did they say they didn’t remember who they voted for, or did they say they weren’t going to tell?
Well, if they’re voting for McSame, how would they know the difference?
That’s unnerving. If these are people who were polled as voting for Obama but who voted for McCain and then “forgot” I wonder if those numbers are within the “margin of error” for Obama taking the state(s). To steal a line from Rachel, can anyone “talk me down?”
Thanks Christy.
digg
Do you know when they are airing it? Got home late from work and missed all but the last 10 minutes.
OT, They are interviewing Merkley on the local News show, free publicity!!
You go dude!
Sure, be glad to. Have you been reading the polls? There now, isn’t that better? “_”
Evening eCAHNomics and all the other fireducks. Did you all know that today is eCAHN’s birthday (apparently recognized this morning)? I know that because today is also my birthday – the commonality having been discovered a year ago today in this very pond. I can’t sign in during the day, but I am with you all. Happy B-day eCAHN and cheers to all!
Well, it’s on C-SPAN right now on the tv, but if you’re able to watch YouTube videos, you can watch it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtREqAmLsoA
Enjoy! ;-)
Did they say they didn’t remember who they voted for, or did they say they weren’t going to tell?
Unclear – I’m just venturing a guess that it was people who didn’t want to say – but that wasn’t an available response to the poll….
and happy birthday, btw!
Did everyone know that Obama is on TDS tonight? I didn’t.
well, Happy Birthday to you too !!
{Whew!} FiveThirtyEight does make me feel better! Thanks.
Aha! You revealed yourself! Thanks for unlurking. Happy happy happy happpy birthday to you!
Thanks so much, Kay.
Hippo birdies two ewe. And many more happy ones to come…
Thanks. Had quite a fest this morning.
Happy B-day to eCAHN & Recoveringlurker! Ages please. Just kidding…I kid.
Merci buttercups.
You’re welcome. ;-)
RL is a year older than me, according to a confidential informant. *g*
Hope it was a happy one. I get to celebrate mine Sunday afternoon with a local appearance by the Capitol Steps. Can’t wait to see what they do to Palin!
Thanks all. I believe I am a year older than eCAHN.
afraid at the moment i can’t get past a horrendous shooting that took place in anaheim. a police officer was chasing four burglary suspects and encountered a young man who went outside to investigate suspicious noises he heard, a shower curtain rod in his hand for defense.
the officer shot him dead. his pregnant bride of one week and mother tried to go to his side. the police prevented them. instead they handcuffed the bleeding man. at the hospital, when it was apparent what a horrible screw up had occurred, the family was prevented from seeing him. his cousin:
my hope for our country under president obama is that when a man whose only similarity to a burglary suspect is the color of his skin, he be treated with gentler hands.
story
Where’s my manners…? Happy Birthday to you and recoveringlurker…! *g*
LOL Now, now, now….no arguing on who is older! Reminds me of my mother and her best friend of the last 50 years. They are only 8 months apart in age, but when one of them (can’t remember which) turns a year older before the other one, man, does that one get a, “ha ha you’re older than me!!!” routine.
Given your situation, manners should be the least of your worries.
((((CT))))
The US Election Assistance Commission announced to today that the National
Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) informed EAC that its National
Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) has suspended SysTest¹s (the testing company’s) accreditation. It now appears that New York State will temporarily suspend certification testing of the Sequoia and ES & S software based optical scan machines intended for federal court ordered deployment in New York in 2009 as the State Board of Elections evaluates how to proceed. The state contract with SysTest requires that it maintain its federal accreditation.
It’s been reported now from several sources that DoJ officials, when told of the certification problems with these systems, are “speechless.”
No arguement. We both agree that RL is older, and, I hope, wiser. *g*
older, yes; wiser, I think not.
Good gawd. You’re my mother/Sandy. LOL
Being a true anglo-saxon, with the stiff upper lip and all, I mustn’t forget ‘em…! 8-)
Happy B-day, eCAHN and recoveringlurker. I hope this day helps to mark a bright new era in our country’s future.
and for those following the jayt Birthday Countdown, we’re at seven days and counting.
(submitted in the spirit of public service announcements and stuff)
mcCain campaign is gonna be in O-Town tomorrow./ What a bunch of schmucks.
The John McCain campaign will host a get-out-the-vote rally tomorrow, featuring U.S. Rep. Ric Keller, R-Orlando, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Keller, who’s in what’s considered a tight race with Democrat Alan Grayson, could clearly use all the votes he can get.
What’s a little odd is the location: Salon 3 at the Rosen Centre, 9840 International Dr. Hard to believe that’ll draw a big crowd of anyone but tourists at 10 in the morning, but you never know.
Bon anniversaire, eCahn
I will certainly drink (almost anything) to that!
The DOJ may be speechless but WANS (we are not surprised). It’s about time the voting machine scam gets called out. The Rs have gotten away with it for almost 8 years, and probably a lot longer in some places.
NYSer. Love those level machines.
When I was little, the voting booth, like a life size monopoly house, was pulled to location in the little park directly across the street from our house, on a platform drawn by horses. I kid you not. It was a real event to see them put it in place. Don’t remember the type of machine that was used (went into the booth with either my mother or my father every year), but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were the same as NYS still uses.
That would be a really great present.
When asked this morning what my wish was, I answered: economic policymakers in DC who know what they are doing.
Orlando Sentinel live-blogging — a “huge” crowd for the Obama/Bill Clinton rally in Kissimmee at 11.
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_politics/
Really in the age of youtube?
I’m hoping you get your early B-day present, Jay! BTW, what’s up with junior? Still in Alabama?
Krugman as Fed Chairman…? ;-)
Palin looks like she loves Mexican food.
http://images.huffingtonpost.c….._large.jpg
Bernanke’s term isn’t up until 2/1/10. And Krugman’s specialty isn’t monetary policy. But it would be nice if he had a prominent role. However, hearing Summers & Rubins names being bantered about, more’s the pity (though somewhat better than the current crew).
Hehehe…how big is that place? Will it hold 25 people?
McCain looks like he’s forking over money! Does he actually have to pay for stuff at rallies?
eCAHNomics & other NYers go to re-mediaetc.org and follow the link (right hand column in red) to sign our petition to keep our lever voting machines. They were designed in NY a hundred years ago specifically to deter vote tampering a and, according to U.Va. professor Bryan Pfaffenberger, are one of the great feats of American engineering.
THat really won’t win her any Hispanic votes. She’s just stupid.
Would that be another first, an important position for someone who’s a recent Nobel winner?
To eCAHN and recoveringlurker:
Happy launch day!!!
May your new journey ’round old Sol
describe the best and happiest of times …
DW
To contrast Barack’s brilliant 30 minute infomercial, John McCain and Sarah Palin will be doing a tap dance together on stage tomorrow at 4pm and will be asking for donations of .05, .10, .25 or whatever you can muster.
Here’s the link for the petition.
http://www.electiondefensealliance.org/signup.php
Btw, Mahalo for the donations made at M&C, it is truly appreciated! *g*
You Pups Rawk!!! 8-)
What a concept, eh? Somebody who’s actually competent, eh? 8-)
I live in a VERY blue county in N. CA.
My neighbor and I have the only Obama asigns in our yards for blocks around. But I’ve also heard tell that Tuolumne county may vote demo for the first time in 16 years. There’s still hope!
Thanks for your blogs, Christy, I like your writing very much.

Obama has a crowd waiting in kissimmee. I guess he’ll do TDS first.( ?)
(crappy) picture from kissimmee rally.

there it is
McPain is forking over $$ because his campaign is as broke as his rhetoric.

For a brief history and evaluation of the merits of the lever voting machine see:

NYers who want to sign a petition to retain the lever voting machine in NY, the last state whose elections are not yet subverted by software based voting sytems go to: http://www.re-mediaetc.org
Thanks!
Passed it along to some of my NYS friends.
Didn’t McCain schedule one of his upcoming rally’s at a lumber yard…between two railroad tracks? I just hope the trains come through horns blaring while he’s giving his speech…and he finally breaks and rushes insanely shouting at the freight cars as they go by.
Or I hope someone hires a train to go by with Obama regalia and signs!
Jane up in the Campaign Silo.
Whoa…
What If Sarah Palin Was Black?
90 minute wait reported for early voting in Dona Ana County central site (county offices) this afternoon.
Report from a friend who voted there this afternoon, he said the line was longer when he left.
Looking good, Jake…
