OT – for folks who haven’t taken a look at Hugh’s List recently, you might want to again… there’s a new version up (in wordpress) with links and all kinds of new goodies including a table of contents that can be viewed by category.

also, if you will indulge me, someone (unknown to me) has opened a digg page for the new version of Hugh’s list – would you consider giving it a digg? thanks!

Orange County FL. The “batleground of the battleground” (That’s what Hillary said so it must be true, right?) As of 10/27, EV totals are at 63,000. Were 79,000 for the entire EV period in 2004. Black turnout already exceeds 2004. Hispanic probably went over yesterday. There has been an increase in people voting every day. Ratio of Dems to R’s and Dems to R’s +”other” is waaay over 2004. (Maintaining 3-1 Dems over R’s. In 2004 the ratio of Dems to R’s was less than 2-1. Were more R’s + “others” tahn Dems in 2004.

I’m not worried about O’s infomercial. I think seeing him speak is always reassuring to the non-crazy repubs and independents. He’s been branded a terrorist-loving marxist, communist, redistributor. Then, people see and hear him and realize they’re being lied to.

getting our money back is not “redistributing wealth”, it’s “returning property”, putting it where it belongs.

Some homework reading for Joe the plumber:

Roughly 75 percent of small businesses file as individual tax filers, not corporations, and most report their business income using various tax forms, called schedules, for income from business ventures, farming or rental properties.

Using these three income-reporting categories, the Tax Policy Center has concluded that 1.9 percent of all individual filers reporting business income would see their taxes go up under Obama’s plan. Of those who get more than 50 percent of their income from business ventures, 2.7 percent would pay higher taxes

Ah, but what’s the value of facts if you’re a rethug?

from blue texans post up top;

“Staggering” voter turnout in VA.

check this out from the link;

Never have so many people in the region registered to vote, and with the intense interest in the presidential election, officials expect turnout rates as high as 90 percent

have we EVER had a state with 90 percent turnout before?

man, one thing we can say for the president, he did get “the people” involved in their government

Unless folks have been to one of his appearances they haven’t gotten to hear him speak at length. The few clips of entire speeches on the intertoobz aren’t accessible to everyone. $1M per network is chicken feed compared to other expenses. Mailout cost totals are way higher than that. I see it as a great opportunity to lay out his vision. Six days before the election is perfect. McSFB couldn’t pull something like this off.

From the Post “large election turnout” story,

The worst problems, he said, could occur in Prince William County, which only uses electronic voting machines and has one machine for every 600 registered voters. There are about 218,000 registered voters in the county. Three spare machines are available in case of breakdowns.

If each machine in this jurisdiction can process 10 voters an hour (giving each voter 6 minutes to cast their ballot), the poll would have to be open 60 hours to accommodate all the voters. If you assume each machine can process 20 voters per hour (3 minutes per voter) then 30 hours would be required to collect all the votes. Virginia polls are scheduled to be open for 13 hours (6 a.m. – 7 p.m.). To complete the vote in 13 hours, each machine would need to accommodate a bit more than 46 voters per hour (giving each voter 1.3 minutes to vote).

Ha ha. Went camping at the beach last weekend. Lots of that. You would have been in heaven.
Myself, I enjoyed watching the surfers.

As a rule, I listen to NPR in the morning to avoid the commercials and to enjoy usually better reporting. But if NPR goes anymore republican in their political reporting, I may go back to commercials just to get a non-biased political report. I am writing my local PBS station, and let them know, if they want any donations from me, they need to tell NPR to stop their bias toward republican politicians. And they (NPR) are doing this, even when the funding was has been cut by “republicans” when they held the congress. Go figure.

If Obama’s 30 minutes is not focused on him but on the people who are working for change, like the Charles video Attaturk posted, the 30 minutes could be quite powerful. If Obama gives the focus to the people the “It’s not about me, it’s about you,”then the ad time will be quite a success. A documentary on the people organizing at the grassroots and Obama thanking everyone for working for Democracy’s future, would be quite powerful.

You are obviously deprived of a community radio station. Try this.

The best little radio station on the planet. Always on the extreme left…of your radio dial. (Actual spot)

democracy now!

listened to npr (and not just isn the mornings) and supported npr for about 20 years. but gave up on them a few years ago, the reporting has gotten so filled with propaganda. imo, amy goodman and democracy now! is the best daily news program.

Amy has been the only one to cover the Ohio voter/election fraud case,King Lincoln Bronzeville. She did a great job addressing the McCain campaign issue of paying 1 million to hire Mr. Connell, Bush computer wiz, tied to election manipulation in 2004. Mr. Connell has been subpoenaed and he is avoiding it.

Many would like to demand in the mainstream media that McCain fire him and make him respond to the subpoena before the election.

The language in the media right now and coming from the McCain camp of the campaign suddenly becoming close in key states, literally in one day, makes me believe the fix is in and done wonderfully by Mr. Connell.

We need to make this a BIG issue.

I’ve given up on NPR or National Propaganda Radio. During Watergate they were a beacon of honesty and truth. Since the Republicans took over it’s been abysmal. Kookie Cokie, Mara Liasson et al have been compromised. As H.L. Mencken once said, “you can’t expect someone to know something when their paycheck is dependent on them not knowing” or something close to that.

DKos tracking poll is showing a 6 point race. McCain has been climbing slowly but surely the last 10 days. The individual state polls are looking good but still a concern with the dailies.

Hope so. Just my opinion. Barack seems to be doing pretty good so far without my advice, though, so you’re probably right.
