Not only did Michele Bachmann’s hometown paper, the St Cloud Times, endorse her opponent Elwyn Tinklenberg; so did the Star Tribune, the newspaper for the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul region.
Bachmann has little to show for her two years in office — three minor bills, one of which recognized the state’s 150th birthday. The incident earlier this month when she went on MSNBC’s "Hardball" and accused Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of possibly harboring "anti-America" beliefs and calling for the media to investigate her colleagues to see who was "pro-America or anti-America" just adds to the list of bizarre incidents and statements that undercut her credibility as a political leader.
She kissed cooked her own goose. h/t to cbl

Oh, Doctor!
I shoulda had breakfast *before* looking at that picture… *g*
A new “kissy-kissy float” isn’t even necessary. I’m sure the old Lieberman paper mache kiss could easily be touched up with some spray paint and spackle.
What’s that old saying about “Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than prove it by opening it”?
Don’t know why bachmann has stuck such a nerve with me (there are lots equally or more odious), but it will be a great pleasure to see her GONE!
*waving to daemon*
methinks the Strib has been feelin’ a whole lotta heat over its coverage this year. Tryin’ to catch up with the turn of history’s tide.
sorry about that, jayt
OT
This plunge in consumer sentiment, which I expected to happen (analogous but much worse than when President Carter told consumers to put away their credit cards in 1980) is extremely important. There is nothing in any of the rescue packages to date that addresses but the comsumer funamentals (rotten incomes & balance sheets), and all the other negative economic signals they are receiving. And to be nonpartisan, I’ll note that Obama does not address this emergency either.
Sorry, here’s the link

bwaaahaaahaaaa!
right after Tweety, RNC said they were taking $$ out of MN-03 Eric Paulson (sp?) to bolster Bachman (MN-06), he went WATB on them and they yanked all the RCCC cash out of MN
touchy bastids
Attributed to Lincoln.
Obama giving powerful closing argument speech this morning. When it’s hard, when it’s cold, when it’s raining…that’s when we stand up.
CNN, MSNBC switch to the Pampered Princesses Sarah and Cindy.
Prairie switches to the jazz channel
About that nerve….I think most sane people are not really ready to hear her cold war talk about being anti-American…let alone some witch hunt to identify those in Congress for God’s sake. She really raised that old question about “have you no decency.” She walked right into it and Matthews let her go. When I heard some part of what she said, I wondered immediately what and whose criteria would “test” one’s patiotism level. Scary stuff and seems like most of the folks “got it” and rejected it. A little return to sanity maybe.
This is wonderful. She deserves to lose in a big way.
Hat Tip on the front page, CBL? Will there be any living with you now?
Thanks for the post, Elliot.
Got top agree. The credit card crash is the next shoe to drop, probably around Christmas. Had a feel for it at the Bal Harbour Mall this weekend. Empty as a tomb, and for my part, I had to pass on the $2,000 cashmere/silk scarf that had ‘me’ written all over it. So much for the imminent recovery.
My claim to fame: I’m a MN-06 resident. *sniff* I’ll miss her.
I think he and his people are well aware of what is coming or what has to be done. But telling the patient about the procedure is not something which the doctor relishes. He’d rather talk about the recovery.
I suspect that a restructuring of the economy with a lot of deficit gov spending on domestic projects such as green industrialization and turning the rust belt green will be what is coming. And even tax breaks to corporations which pay higher wages, maintain work forces and go green could be part of the mix to restore the public confidence.
Banks and CCard companies will have to have the predatory interest rates reigned in so that consumers can use a bit of credit and not be sent to the poorhouse or bankruptcy. Wealth will have to be taxed too!
There are many policies which can give the people confidence, but those measures need to bottom up not trickle down. People are tired of being pissed on by corporations and waiting for left over scraps.
Is there early voting in every state? I am wondering how many people are being turned away from polls because of HAVA? The caging, purging, and etc.
I think early voting can hedge the plot to disenfranchise, and I have not heard of people being turned away. That would leave electronic manipulation as the only possibility.
“Kiss of death”…a self-inflicted wound.
Send her to the trash heap of overtly evil Republican has-been liars.
That pic isn’t photoshopped, is it? She was the one who got the sloppy kiss after the SOTU! What a loon.
Bachman is a creep of the highest magnitude. May she rot in eternal hell if there is such a place. If not let her leave the congressional business of her district to a sane person.
You could’a called the RNC
Hey Now!
*waving*
The question for the photo above – is she giving him tongue?
hey – it’s a great find. Tinklenberg should be making extensive use of it, imo.
Bachmann is fundie to the core, contrary to the decidedly non-fundie behavior captured in the pic.
And during those dorm years, when I was busy studying, the Lord put in my heart, that if I would be diligent and I would be steadfast, He would take me to law school. And I thought, law school? I have no interest in going to law school. But I put that in His hands and I put in His plan, and I put it in His hands, and pursued that, and eventually He did, He took me to law school.
And from there, my husband said “Now you need to go and get post-doctorate degree in tax law.” Tax law? I hate taxes. Why should I go and do something like that? But the Lord says: Be submissive, wives, you are to be submissive to your husbands…

“Lucy… you got some ’splainin’ to do…..”
So you missed the Obama supporters chanting? The crowd tried to drown them out but you could hear Obama in the background. After they were asked to leave I changed the channel.
;)
Please don’t go there….he already looks like he’s enjoying it alittle too much. Who is the bigger creep?
Rare picture of a brain-sucker starving to death. Nice find Elliott.
McInsane is talkin’ up Da First Dood
“In one of those races, Todd broke his arm, and finished the race anyway. Do you think he is gonna be afraid of anything in Warshington D.C.?”
what.the.fuck?
oh my goodness!!
tax law, and she did it because her husband told her too?! what a nutcase.
Great pic..when did Lieberman let his hair grow?
Two for one!!
that’s nothin, I just published my first Oxdown Diary – Senate Race Overview attention must be paid :D
Holy cow! It’s a measure of my current wackadoodleness that I found out about the Strib endorsement here! I live in the Twin Cities. Michele Bachmann is our cross to bear. Our public shame. Our endless embarrassment. Our ding-dong dingbat. I mean all of that lovingly, of course.
An army couldn’t get me to study tax codes, let alone Mr Snap.
I switched, did McCain give Palin’s husband credit for Alaska’s tax policy
Evidence?
whoops, I didn’t read jayt’s last comment.. sory
Exactly my thoughts…brings being submissive to spouse abuse level. Or, maybe she enjoys it.
Oh, honey, I’m so sorry. This must be very, very hard for you!!
The Enquirer habitually front pages Laura and Shrub divorce speculation. The odds are at least 50/50. What’s the difference between living separate lives like John and Cindy McCain and being divorced? Staying in a “loveless marriage” prevents one from making the expensive mistake of marrying someone else.
Maybe Shrub will take Bachman to Paraguay with him.
That picture disgusts me. Gross. Isn’t the woman supposed to slightly turmn her cheek and then the man plants one? Lokks like those two got it ass backwards. makes me wanna wretch.
you have cbl to thank.
((barbara))
We went into a Dillard’s department store a couple of days ago, and I was a little taken aback to see 40 percent off signs on almost all of the fall and winter clothing. It hasn’t even gotten cold here yet, it’s not even halloween, and it looked like after-Christmas sales.
Mangled his beautiful words up good and proper, I did. *g*
I know the feeling. We have Barbara West where I am.
Picture. why does every nutwing (incl. Lieberman) congresscritter want to smooch Bush?
This may have crossed FDL radar while I’ve been gone, but a measure of how weird things are in MN is that the “venerable” (and reliably conservative) St. Paul Pioneer Press opted to make no presidential endorsement. Former Congressman Dave Durenberger (a moderate Republican) respectfully and articulately decried their absolute, total chicken-shittedness and utter failure to do the right thing. It is clear he favors Obama; ergo, another one bites the dust.
Thanks.
P.S. I too found out about the Strib endorsement here. I wonder if the endorsement was on page 1?
I see why she was channeling Nixon.
(((Barbara and Balrog)))) schadenfreudlicious indeed
I know the feeling. We have Barbara West where I am.
Take heart. There is a pretty massive petition circulating on-line for WGOP, or whatever it is, to dump her ass.
It was here yesterday – I forget who posted it.
Anyone?
their Opinion page
doncha all love this “righteous woman” is losing to a minister :D
The Bush Crime Family is very harsh to those who might divorce one of their own. Just ask Sharon Bush.
If Mr. Snap asked me to study taxes, he’d be practically begging for some verbal abuse himself–well, at least some serious derision.
How often do they have to go in for an FCC license?
Wadw West is a Republican operative with connections in the Ukraine. There is an outfit in Maitland that outsources Corporate IT jobs to the Ukraine. Many millions of dollars in contracts. That’s all I got on that.
I’ve been wondering about the old responsible Rs and how they are going to handle the hijacking of their party. Mostly they seem to have gone underground. Is the St.PPP part of that movement?
She was very defensive on Larry King last night…saying he has no Repub affiliations and he has also worked for Dems, etc blah blah. and justifying her questions as just wanting the information b/c she is a journalist, and folks were messing up her questions. Not only is she a journalist she is a very fast talker.
it will be really nice to see this women repudiated for challenging the patriotism of people she disagrees
if someone were to discribe an individual who was “anti american” then this women would be on that picture
Argggh! I’m blind their not bad lookin but there evil Evil Evil I feel like I just stepped in on the Devil getin some its not good.
Whats next selections from Pat Buchanan’s Hitler-Eva Braun porn flicks?
Because its politically relevant?
(Snark)
Looks that way to me. Another recent public supporter of Obama is Arne Carlson, another moderate Republican and former MN governor.
I can find it, thanks. i already sent her an e-mail on my own on Saturday or Sunday or whenever this first came out.
Sharon got 30K a year alimony from millionaire Neil Bush. That is harsh. And no more Bush Family Christmas. Boo Hoo. I thought she wanted the divorce after his liasons with Thai prostitutes and VD. That was not the case according to that article. Bush’s are cheap rotten bastids, though.
Did West provide good cover for herself or did she hurt herself more with her lies. Was she believable?
Note that this is under the Avista Régime, which is tacking hard right as of late (they endorsed the worthless Norm Coleman over Al Franken, and per the scuttlebutt the only real surprise there is that they didn’t go for Crazy Dean Barkley). If even the Strib’s sick of Bachmann, she’s toast.
As a Minnesotan (not living in the sixth district), I eagerly await Michele’s return to private citizenry. However, in the interest of accuracy, I must point out that it’s quite a stretch to say that St. Cloud is Bachmann’s hometown. Bachmann lives in Stillwater, MN, which is on the Wisconsin border, is an 85 mile drive to St. Cloud, which is northwest of Minneapolis. Stillwater is much, much closer to St. Paul than St. Cloud.

It’s a shame too. It’s really a very pretty little city.
