Hilarious. The stock market had a good day today, nearly 890 points up. So the NewsHour is trying to explain why it went up despite bad economic news today. Bear market volatility is a concept they don’t seem to have come across.

Nuttin’s fair. I paid property taxes on my house for many years and also paid to have my kids go to a private school because the ones in my neighborhood were sh*t. What to do? Suck it up.
We all make choices we have to live with.
I’m always telling my dog to go get a job, that or help around the house.

Oh I know, having been single (legally) all my life it has always angered me that families have always benefited disproportionately from tax breaks and rebates by both democrat and republican administrations. All the while to live by yourself is much more expensive for things like housing and insurance that families share the costs of.

Actually, without using the term “redistribution,” Obama has been making this same point about the failure of “trickle down” policies for months. And in several of his speeches, he deflects McCain’s criticism with that argument. What’s interesting is that few of the media/pundits frame it this way, even though this direct conflict has been there all along.

David Sirota has been doing a good job of pointing out that McCain is making an overt ideological argument against progressive distribution policies. He’s arguing against an scheme, in principle that takes money from some/money and reallocates it to anything else. It’s stupid, regressive, and contradicts his own proposals. But he’s made the election about that — so if Obama wins (knock on wood), Obama could arguably claim a progressive mandate, even though he never used the terms.

You’d be surprised at how much is in the tax code and spending that, if put in words of one syllable, and highlighted in bullet points, would turn your stomach. Single people have long been discriminated against in the tax code. It’s only Christian, ya know. (Well, make that “family friendly.” Ya gotta use the PC language.)
