The boogie men

In a desperate move to rescue his failed candidacy, and realizing that efforts to treat voters like idiots by painting Obama as a "spread the wealth" socialist were backfiring, John McCain today announced he would again take Bill Kristol’s advice and refocus his campaign.

Starting today, McCain will promote an unambiguously liberal/progressive welfare platform, hoping to tap into the electorate’s growing hunger for a wealth distribution platform.

McCain’s campaign conceded they have not yet determined how best to reorient the Senator’s speeches, and there were reports some advisers were bickering over how far to give Obama credit. Nevertheless, McCain’s economic team of Holtz-Blackberry-Eakin gave reporters the following talking points*:

* Consumers to be bilked to pay for $300 billion giveaway to banks to cover their mortgage lending recklessness and fraud.

* Tax plan would redistribute billions to nation’s wealthiest individuals and corporations.

* People without children to be forced to pay for tax credits for those with kids

* Oil companies would reap more billions

* Energy technologies rejected by market — including nuclear — to receive massive subsidies and capital infusion, paid for by tax payers and hapless energy consumers.

* Millions of employees would have their health benefits taxed to pay for health care subsidies for others

* Huge government transfer payments system to be created to handle enormous wealth redistribution.

"Unlike my opponent, I know how to spread the wealth," McCain said. "And I’ll fight anyone who tries to stop me."

McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, agreed: "I’m so happy that John is finally doing what I did with oil company taxes in Alaska. We Alaskans know how to spread the wealth. And I know John McCain would make a better redistributionist-in-chief than Obama."

* You can find all these proposals on McCain’s website; use teh Google.

Update: Is Sarah Palin a socialst? Even more on socialism.
