At a time when America is facing historic crisis we can’t put our fate in the hands of an untested, inexperienced candidate. John McCain has served his country all his life, and he is the most prepared to restore our economy, bring back fiscal discipline, manage the two wars, and keep Americans safe.
Oh, how, um, well — un-Mavericky and sad. Cannot put fate in the hands of the untested and inexperienced candidate, eh?
“Leaving aside her actual experience, do you know how informed Governor Palin is about the issues of the day?” The senior adviser thought for a moment. Then he looked up from his beer. “No,” he said quietly. “I don’t know.”
And how’d that work out for you?
"Her lack of fundamental understanding of some key issues was dramatic," said another McCain source with direct knowledge of the process to prepare Palin after she was picked. The source said it was probably the "hardest" to get her "up to speed than any candidate in history."

Someone had to get her “up to speed” AFTER they selected her?!? She’s 44 years old. I would think it was HER responsibility to be up to speed before applying for the position.
I’d love to have the job as head of neurosurgery at Rush Medical Center, but I’m not fool enough to accept the job if it were ever offered to me.
Her selection as VP candidate was not only idiotic, it was downright dangerous.
wazzzup
DING!
The bad news: the thugs will have four years to get her up to *their* definition of speed. For the fundies, she already exceeds expectations. :-((
They got nuthin’ ‘cept, “Fear the Change”. They’re toast.
i caught the tail end of McSame on MTP. He had fear sprinkled all through his rhetoric.
I got to where the author(s) of that NYT piece stated that McCain’s biography has been the stuff of legend for the last decade. I wonder in exactly whose mind, and left quickly before I passed out from the smell of offal. Oh, happy Monday all.
So you think we have problems here in the US. Imagine what this could do to Cindy’s income if this happens in the US
yay monday!
So cheney/bush attacked both Syria and Pakistan over night. I wonder if they consulted with the McPalin campaign about starting another couple of wars before the election after all bugger all else is working for them.
gregory@6 The NYT, even though endorsing obama, has continued to write worshipful columns about McSame. If it wasn’t for the crossword I would never get the fish wrapper again.
Morning all :)
The digg is open..
Good Morning! Sarah has name recognition but little else. Most people can’t remember who Dole’s running mate was but everyone remembers Dan Quayle. Neither Jack Kemp and Dan Quayle have added to the political discourse and let’s hope Sarah returns to Alaska and out of the political limelight forever.
Good morning, pups. It’s Monday, so it must be Kristol. He’s accompanied by Cohen and Krugman. Wrong Way Billy thinks we should “Remember the Marne.” He says the Republican center is giving way, and some on the political right are in retreat. Time for John McCain to finally make his case. This shit would be really, really sad if it weren’t so ludicrous. (For the non-history majors, The First Battle of the Marne.) Mr. Cohen asks if we should “Shoot the Horses?” He says it’s a wonder that there are still two guys in the presidential race, pulling out all the stops to be chosen as the one to face this economic nightmare. Mr. Krugman, in “The Widening Gyre,” says the troubles in the banking system, hedge funds and emerging markets are mutually reinforcing. Bad news begets bad news, and the circle of pain just keeps getting wider. (For the non-English majors, here’s “The Second Coming,” by Yeats.)

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. Our plans to vote on Friday were interrupted by a deluge, so it’s off to the polls after work today. Have a great day.
You mean you don’t enjoy Brooks’ and Kristol’s efforts? /snark
Scar is on a total rant about wardrobe, wardrobe, wardrobe and pooooooooooor palin being mistreated and blah, blah, blah………..oh, and don’t mention modo’s latest hit piece. hehehehehe

Marion!
Have you ever attended any of the events put on by the Savannah Folk Music Festival? Was googling Dave Mallett earlier this morning and his schedule shows him playing next March 27……..excellent excuse for a road trip. :-)))
John McCutcheon is playing down there November 2; do you plan to go see him?
Marion -
Folk Music
FestivalSocietyI’ve been to a few of the events, and they’re great. However, 2 jobs keep me with my nose to the grindstone most of the time. If you’re planning a road trip to Savannah for real let me know and we’ll figure out a place for a Firepup meet-up.
Waccamaw, I heard that the Obama camp is recruiting creative types to entertain folks in long lines in NC on election day. Have you heard anything about that?
I’ve already put it on the calendar! Have wanted to come that way via Charleston for donkey’s ears and it’s the perfect time of year. Will be looking for advice on lodging recommendations, etc. at a later date.
No, but what a totally wizard idea!!!!!! Off to check a few sites to see if mentioned.
Way back in the day, when I lived and worked in New York, I’d buy the paper on the way to work, do the crossword puzzle first thing and then settle into work. I never looked at any other part of the paper including the headlines.
Excellent! We can figure out e-mails, etc. closer to the time.
Can you imagine what the people of Alaska are thinking now after choosing this buffoon for their Governor? I’m sure they’re saying around the dinner tables, “Good gawd! She’s an absolute moron!!!”.
This is from a commenter at Balloon Juice
Speaking of keeping the masses in line…this just in. Is there anything these people do not think of in advance?:
Hi Laura,
I’m a volunteer for the Obama campaign in North Carolina and am helping recruit volunteer performers to entertain people standing in line waiting to vote on Election Day. Sometimes the lines get really long and we want to keep voters happy while they wait.
We are looking for musicians, magicians, singers, acrobats, jugglers, tap-dancers, rap artists, clowns, mimes, puppeteers, basketball tricks, dog tricks, stilt walkers, church choirs, barbershop quartets, and anybody else who can volunteer to entertain a crowd and help keep every last Obama voter in line until they have voted! We are asking performers to be at selected polling places by 5:30pm on November 4 and entertain voters in line until everybody has voted. Polls close at 7:30pm, but performers could potentially be there until 9:00pm.
As a member of North Carolina’s creative community, we wondered if you yourself might be interested in volunteering to perform and/or if you could forward this email to your creative/performer friends and anyone you think could spread the word to performers. We especially need the help in Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Greenville, Elizabeth City, and Wilmington.
It is The Nation crossword that has me battling with my brain these days and I swear it is keeping me from going senile. A crossword a day keeps dementia away.
Awwww, the wealthy on MSNBC this morning are so concerned about
spreading the wealthpaying their fair share of taxes. So sad to watch.I wonder, will the McPalin campaign will have fashion shows scheduled to keep their voter in line?
Thanks for the tip. I’ll check out their crossword. I refuse to pay what the NYT wants for crossword puzzles…
Well, fashion shows and information sessions on Alzheimer’s, PTSD, anger management, etc.
now i like to take walks in the greenbelt behind my house first thing in the morning. don’t know about my brain, but it sure feeds the rest of me.
syria AND pakistan, grrrr!
what line?
Quickie look at bluenc and Pam’s; didn’t see anything. Based on what you’ve found, sounds like it may be a “show up if you can” idea……..you know them creative types don’t like bein’ herded. *g*
No. And it really bodes well for the way he’ll run the country.
SATSQ *GG*
Good morning, pups. Great post Attaturk. My challenge today, and I choose to accept it, is to get an RSVP for the Biden appearance tomorrow morning in Ocala, about 30 miles south of me. Then I think I’ll make a lot of phone calls for my Congressional candidate. [If you folks see me hanging out here instead of making calls later, tell me to get to work. *g*]
They need to get McCain up to speed on the economy, the war, nuclear power etc too:)
WAG the DOG!
Sarah will be John’s chance at a legacy if she wins in four years after all only McCain believed in her and gave her a shot.
I want Sarah to be the GOP candidate in four years we have so much material to unload.
Plus ET is trying to get her recalled as Governor of Alaska but even if that happens she will still run in four years after all she can get a crowd.

Thats it Ben lower the value of the Dollar to help banks and the stockmarket at the cost of making the Dollar worth even less money.
I’m sure Bush’s approval rating can take the hit.
I’m worried about Sarah. If she can make peace with the big money that backs the Republiks, she’d be very dangerous. I’m hoping President Barack will set up a special detail to recover missing e-mails, shredded docs, and do due diligence on the Bush admin crimes, so that the Republik brand will be wrecked for a generation when the investigations are concluded.
you know, I’ve been saying for a while our votes are being flipped, I believe two days ago cbs actually showed real time an obama vote being flipped to mccain
and this is in early voting where they will be more discreet, and most of us voting early are doing it BECAUSE we know their are gonna be voting problems
imagine what is going to happen in the general where people don’t pay attention and are embarrassed to say their vote flipped since they are gonna think it’s their fault.
zogby actually has this at only 5 percent obama with a 3 percent variation, that poll is definately gamed, mccain cannot possibly be 5 percent from obama
what are we gonna do if this election is stolen?
we will be in for 4 years of mccain fascism followed by 8 years of palin theocracy
and IF they become president, the machines will NEVER get fixed, which means the democrats lose the majority too
not as if the democrats have been acting like democrats but I am holding my breath for 8 more days
we need this SO bad
the only real solution to this financial collapse is a new deal
we get money back into the ecomomy through building, we put people to work fixing the roads, bridges, tunnels, cleaning the air, developing alternative fuel and cooling the planet
giving our money to the people that have stolen it is NOT the solution
Fixed it for you…….unfortunately. :-(
Yeah FDR!
The only good thing that would come of a McCain presidency is that we would fall so far into the abyss that whole sale changes would become even more obvious. Hopefully, we are not dumb enough to have to go that route. In the case of the buttheads trying to send us – keep us – in the dark ages, go to:
http://www.buttheadpolice.com
Vote for extreme buttheads like Palin and McCain to get asses stamped on their heads. Hilarious and timely. Spread the word. Buttheads will roll!!!
This inexperience argument is pretty-well the last shot in any politician’s locker.
The former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard (one of Bush’s toadys in the Coalition of the Willing) used it as a last resort against his opponent in the Australian General Election last November.
Did it work?
Not a chance.
Howard’s Government was creamed so badly, he lost his own seat. Sadly, he has now been reduced to appearances on The Wingnut Speakers Circuit, both here and in the US, where die-hard Neo-Cons can pay a mozza for a few words of wisdom from the Cold-Warriors of yester-year.
BTW, our new PM might be a nerdy looking guy, but at least he’s a social democrat with a shred or two of compassion about him. It sure makes for a nice change.
So, my fellow lefties over the water, despair not.
The Republicans are clearly on their last legs and much needed change is on the way.
