Good morning tw3k, do you ever sleep ;)
Good morning!
Lindsay and Rahm
That option will reduce my caloric intake for the day
Good Morning. On Matthews good analysis of the way Obama has run the race; plus, replay of the Bachman interview…described as “out of time” etc. Plus, a segment on Palin’s “drag”, longterm minus. Tooo bad.
Lieberman has a giant head.
The book salon OTOH looks promising.
This is the number one issue for me. day one.
FD: I work for a financial regulatory agency. If there is job security anywhere in this financial crisis, it is in regulation.
i sleep lots *in my best forrest gump*
Methinks Matthews is developing a new man-crush.
lol! tweety does seem to get those a lot.
oo Thanks for the rundown. Today I will tune into Tweety
Good morning Elliott. I’m having a meeting at my house from 1:30-4:30 (SUNY-New Paltz Foundation Finance Committee, to gently pursuade two new members who run hedge funds that that is not the kind of “investment” we want to put the endowment into). But I’ll try to get to book salon after everyone leaves.
Other than Glennzilla and Fein, a rather dreary line-up.
Elliot—one thing about Will, his baseball fondness is for the Cubs, the ONLY thing I share with the sob.
One of the political hacks on cspan just spoke of the Ds’ “surge.” So I guess it’s now OK for the Ds to say, “The surge is working.”
Good morning, pups. Brace yourselves — the NYT has unleashed 9 columnists this morning. I’ve broken them down into 2 segments, so you can more easily find the one(s) you want to either read or laugh at. Part I has Warner, Friedman, Egan and Kristof:
Judith Warner writes about “No Ordinary Woman,” and says Sarah Palin is a woman who is able to be promoted on the kinds of attributes that were once the exclusive province of unremarkable white men. I think by “unremarkable” she’s being polite and not saying “ignorant.” She does have lovely manners. Mr. Friedman ponders “If Larry and Sergey Asked for a Loan….” and suggests we can only grow our way out of this crisis — with more innovation and entrepreneurship, which create new businesses and better jobs. Mr. Egan writes about “The Party of Yesterday,” and says Republicans have been insinuating for years that some of the brightest, most productive communities in the United States are fake American. Mr. Kristof, in “The Endorsement From Hell,” says the endorsement of John McCain by a Web site linked to Al Qaeda isn’t a surprise. Four more years of blindness to nuance in the Muslim world is an excellent recruiting tool.
Warner, Friedman, Egan and Kristof
Part II contains Dowd, Brooks, Collins, Krugman and Rich. MoDo writes about “A Makeover With an Ugly Gloss,” and says with the McCain campaign running on an “average Joe” theme, aides costumed their Eliza Doolittle for a ball when she should have been dressing for a bailout. Bobo, poor thing, admits his side is “Ceding the Center.” He whines that John McCain would be an outstanding president. But he never escaped the straightjacket of a party that is ailing and a conservatism that is behind the times. Never escaped it? Bobo, sweetie, he hurled himself into their arms, pandering like crazy, to get their votes. Tool… Ms. Collins has the “Blue State Blues.” She thinks she wants her ballot to be important. She wants to get Republican robo-calls and have college students coming to her door with helpful leaflets. Having been in Ohio during one campaign I can assure her that she really doesn’t want to live through that. Mr. Krugman says we are “Desperately Seeking Seriousness,” and that as the economic scene has darkened, Americans have rediscovered the virtue of seriousness. And this has worked to Barack Obama’s advantage. Mr. Rich writes “In Defense of White Americans.” He says white Americans are not remotely the bigots the G.O.P. would have us believe. Just because a campaign trades in racism doesn’t mean that the country is racist.
Dowd, Brooks, Collins, Krugman and Rich
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are all ready, and to give you strength to wade through all of that I’ve got chocolate croissants I scored at the bakery yesterday, as well as some plain ones for the folks who don’t care for chocolate first thing in the morning. Have a grand day.
He is a twit, isn’t he?
(excuse me for talking with chocolate croissant in my mouth)
oh I don’t know, when the United States Federal Government is protecting hedge funds uber alles, might be just the place to put money these days.
Did you see the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp lost almost 5 billion dollars?
Elliott, what a lovely picture! They make such a sweet couple… /snark
when I saw that this morning, I laughed out loud.
No offense intended, but Will’s persistant Cub fandom is a clear indication of lack of judgment.
OTOH, you could consider it an ‘article of faith’.
It looks like the trillion dollars that Bush gave the banks was for the CEO’s salaries…who could have imagined? And Frank Rich thinks that McCains ‘Real Americans’ supporters are a beknighted bunch of easily manipulated bigots..so do I.
Hedge funds are dropping like flies because even with friends in charge in DC, they are too dumb to survive in a bad market. They pulled a classic: confusing brains with a bull market.
No, I hadn’t seens that on the PBGC. Thanks for the heads up. But frankly, and federal amount not enumerated in trillions now seems like petty change.
Racist Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, looks like he might defeat Paul Kanjorski for a seat in the House.
I suppose this didn’t help:
Are you sermonizing today? If so, what’s the subject? Seems like a good time to be a minister in the sense that there’s so much evil to speak against.
Ye, the pundits on cspan also said it wasn’t looking good for Kanjorski.
Astounding.
Who could have anticipated that deregulation of financial markets would lead to a crisis where boggling sums of money would be mainlined into the bank accounts of large investors who were troubled by the defaults on terrible loans.
Not since the Savings and Loan bailouts, have we seen this phenomenon.
Who could anticipate that a Bush presidency would end this way?
Enron & total financial collapse. The W prez bookends.
Pundits on cspan say it’s a disaster for Ds to have a filibuster proof majority because the last time it happened was during Carter & Raygun was elected in a landslide afterwards.
Hmmmm… That idiot Congresscritter Jack Kingston must be feeling a bit nervous. He just had an ad on the TV full of flags and pictures of the capital and talk of tax cuts and supporting working class America. In the past he’s been an overwhelming shoo-in.
Morning, folks…it finally stopped raining in Upstate New York — it’s 30 degrees and very foggy and the sun is making a major effort to come out. This morning’s early assignment: go through a counter top full of tomatoes to pick the lucky winners for canning whole vs. those(no!no!) who go through the processor for their pulp.
brooksley born, charles bowsher, ed markey
Some storm, huh? Sun has just about burned off fog in mid-Hudson & temp is 44.
Good thing I got most of the bushhogging done before the rain. Some of the fields have swampy areas that can’t be done unless the ground is dry. The one field that’s left, I’ll have to wait a few days, then probably not do the wet corner.
nothing like a little transparency

Craptastic article by She Who Must Not Be Named in the Post this morning,
pushing the DLC line that Democrats Must Not Overreach.
The only Democrats who are quoted are
Steve “The bloggers and online donors represent an important resource for the party, but they are not representative of the majority you need to win elections. The trick will be to harness their energy and their money without looking like you are a captive of the activist left.” Elmendorf,
Steny Hoyer and our own Rahm Emanuel.
Man is Jed Babbin an arrogant jerk
on CSPAN
He once said, “Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordian.”
snopes
Now, there’s a vast understatement, Elliott. *g* Did’ya hear the witchy female caller who had her 100 talking points list of what’s supposedly wrong with Obama? The stoopid, it burns!
actually I didn’t hear her, rats I love the nutty callers.
has this been posted already? The Anchorage Daily News endorses Obama, says Palin isn’t ready.
http://www.adn.com/opinion/view/story/567867.html
that’s gonna leave a mark – sorry if it’s already been addressed.
yay 4 cspan nutters!
mornin’ everyone! will be in and out, busy morning. still gotta eat breakfast and get ready to leave.
just saw a preacher on usa edyoung, com
crossing the line of politic’ing, gonna report him.
said he was a fine arts major and then made fun of artists.
then made fun of anyone who is educated.
“Dr. Fuzzyface at The University of Relativism”
used Proverbs 1:7 to prove that you don’t need no edumafication, “God will give you wisdom”
even brought up non-profit status and kicked it aside.
Said next sunday he WILL be telling people how to vote, but he already did today.
Hope he likes paying back taxes, cuz he’s gonna be talking to the irs real soon.
Define “love”, please?
Heh. Embarrassing questions you are asking…
In the Savannah Daily Disappointment there is this story from July 31 about his performance in a subcommittee hearing, this story from October 24 about his being subpoenaed, which appears to be a copy of this story from October 23. There is also this story from August 3 headlined “Sugar industry sweetens Saxby’s pot.” I’ve also attached a link to the search of the rag’s web site for “Chambliss sugar.” People out of state are probably getting better information about this than we are. [spit]
has any newspaper endorsed McCain> /s
dmac!
Anybody watching mcpalin?
Of course! The Savannah Daily Disappointment. [sigh]
I find them wildly amusing. They usually make me laugh and laugh.
awesome Marion, thanks.
not enough advil in the world:
lindsey graham and rahm emanuel arguing about tax cuts. who says reaganomics is dead?
anybody see that Biden interview with the moron from WFTV in Orlando? If so and you’d like to contact said maroon, you may do do at: barbara.west@wftv.com
BTW, she is a former Miss Vermont in te Miss America pageant. Whadda maroon.
Speaking of The City Beautiful, Barack is coming back!!!!! Last time he was with Hillary. This time it’ll be with The Big Dawg hisself. Last time they had 60,000 squished into the arena parking lots. They’re looking for a venue which can accommodate more people.
EWWEEOT!
The Philadelphia Enquirer gave him a half endorsement. That was pretty weird. Never saw a split endorsement before.
Good Morning Elliot and Firedogs,
allow me to start off Sunday a little pissy-
Where in bloody hell is Howard Dean ?!?!? There’s no comparing him to camera whore McAuliffe, but when was the last time anyone saw him ?!?!?!
I’m asking because he is the person to be on my teevee screamin to high heaven about WH asking DOJ to intervene in the Ohio Voter Suppression Scheme – it’s his damn job, where in the hell is he ?
miss alaska 1984 who beat palin was on that new cnn show last night, she’s black. and said little sarah was a little competitive even then.
miss alaska 1984=sorry can’t recall her name==said she just made a cd of a concert in russia and one song is in russian, so that makes her an expert on russian foreign policy. ha.

talk about voting against your own interest, why would they endorse the Party that’s cut Florida tourism by over 30% ?!?!? Ideology First !
Not today. Long story shortened considerably—spouse had quad bypass almost 2 weeks ago, unplanned. I’ve been ill too with ailments as yet undiagnosed. Today was to have been my once a month off sunday but I’m going in to show my face so they know I’m still there for them, though I’m barely here for myself or spouse.
Next two sundays for deep sermonizing, one pre-election, one, “what’s next?’ post election.
Karl Rove was pathetic spinning for McCain this morning on Fox News. I thought Wallace asked him some good questions tho.
Tom Ridge couldn’t make it, so it’s just Tim Kaine for the second segment.
T. Boone Pickens — The oil and gas maven is on a mission to lessen America’s dependence on foreign oil. Charlie Rose reports.
Pickens endeavors to change our drug of choice from gasoline to natural gas because he has a bunch of it to sell. Switching from one finite resource to another is a little bit stupid.
Pickens props up Wind Farms (good) to promote his Natural Gas.
Good morning. Elliott, love the picture! Hysterical. I’m thinking those two already got married in a private ceremony all ready. ;-)
Two different mindsets, we are. They (and ignorance) scare the livin’ spit outta me. :-(
Scurrilous McCain dodging Brokaw’s question this morning on whether he agrees with Rush Limbaugh that Powell’s endorsement was all about race.
Also blathering about Palin’s ordinary maverickyness…no mention I’m hearing of the ethics investigation.
Meanwhile, Brokaw…the man who chooses not to ask follow-up questions. Or doesn’t have the intellectual heft to construct one.
Oh, but dragging out the soap opera of today’s being the anniversary of the hero being shot down.
Jeebuz, Brokaw, why don’t you just fe… him.
(((RevDeb & Mr.RevDeb)))
sorry to learn you are both under the weather.
turns out that the owner/publisher is a rabid rethug. The ed. board was kind of forced into it.
And to add insult to injury, the feature story on the op ed section today is by John Yoo along with an announcement that he will be a frequent contributor.
As Atrios would say, just shoot me.
yeah, Pickens is out to enrich Pickens.
and how jealous is Lindsey Graham!?
Both straight out of the Modernization Act.
To be fair, Enron was set up on Clinton’s watch. But the warning messages were disregarded, to say the least.

oh wow, that is dreadful news.
he should be in jail, not given a prominent platform.
Marion, If there is a runoff, advance voting will be the week of Thanksgiving with the date of the runoff is Dec. 2. I only read one small article about Imperial Sugar in the AJC. Did you see the debate last night? I missed it.
Florida needs a light rail system. Jacksonville to Miami, Tampa to Daytona.
That would turn the state around, get it back on track, attract retirees and tourists, be innovative.
Every time we vote for it (for twenty years now), our representatives shelve it.
(((RevDeb))) sorry to hear about Mr RevDeb. been wondering where you were, got a little concerned when you weren’t here for that last debate. thanks for checking in, hope there’s some good health news comin your way
(((RevDeb))) Lots of love to you both.
Take good care of yourself.
If you haven’t already, would this possibly be a good time to ask your church members to help you?
To you and the mister, good health and hoping for a fast recovery.
On MTP Mr. Cranky showed up. I don’t think anyone wants that in their living rooms for the next four years. It was really discomforting to watch. Until they got around to the POW stuff, it was a complete disaster.
Green Bay Press Gazette did, along with John Gard. They didn’t endorse me either – no surprise there.
“Western European Social Democracy Model” = Fresh Recycled Rethug Talking Point.
I am recommending watching the repeat of the 60 Minutes Credit Default Swaps segment.
there is NO comparison with the sterling reportage from Ian Welsh, but they do a good job sketching out the barest of outlines – and there is no mistaking the villains in the debacle
Republicans prefer the Eastern European Government Model, or the Mexico Model.
May God throw a little extra blessing at you & yours today.
You can add the Cincinnati Enquirer to your list.
and is partly to get the water lines right of way to pump from an aquifer under a property he owns.
Palin yesterday-
wouldn’t that be horrible, imagine a Govt tracking you everywhere, listening to your phone calls, emails, texts, sending you NSL’s that you can’t talk about ….. oh wait !
that was their mistake.
what a shock ! did you read it ? clearly written a year ago.
was attempting to see if they endorsed Jean Schmidt – any Ohioans know ??
Anchorage Daily News endorsed Obama–boo-yah!
Just lost the satellite…snow of the big wet sloppy kind in Fargo today.
Kinda like the endorsement the local paper gave McCranky.
Local 6 News reprted Cindy McCain toured Republican homes with Ghouliani. “She did not discuss policy – She left policy to Ghoul”. She just wanted to meet people so they could see how nice and down to earth she is.
All the interviewees concurred: Cindy is the real salt of the earth.
Isn’t Halloween next week?
John and Joe – together forever
Meanwhile, Jill Biden talks Policy at a local college.
Pundits pondered: “What solutions did she propose to solve our Florida Education budget crisis?”
(A crisis caused by Republicans by design)
LOL Very jealous! Poor Lindsey. He so badly wanted to be sleeping with the candidate.
lololol
Kingston’s ads used the be the wife, kids & golden retriever. My fondest dream would be to see his defeat. Could this really happen? Who is his opponent?
I went off like cheap fireworks when I read that. I had opined earlier that Mr.s P. might have been fomenting her own personal intra-campaign revolt, refusing to be controlled by her ‘advisors’ because she wanted to get even more crazy-ugly than she has already been. Unfortunately, I may have been right.
The good news? I believe that she and her tactics will be quite specifically identified, post-election, by the ‘big-boys’ of GOP-land as the reason that this campaign dove off the cliff. “Cratered”, if you will.
Palin as the 2012 or 2016 Repub candidate? – HA! Not gonna happen, unless – the result of this election splits the R party right down the middle.
Religious and other various various ideologue crazies on one side (one ticket?) and “true conservatives” on the other.
The Divine Mrs. P. will be consigned to either being a wart-shaped footnote in history, or the leader of The Party of Hate, a party whose long reign in this country is dead, dead, dead.
spit.
Unfortunately, it looks like Closet Lyndsey will retain his seat. The Democratic opponent is struggling.
Assholes on C-SPAN this morning from around America! Now they’re saying Michelle Obama needs to be investigated because of a paper she wrote in college. What the hell. I’m so sick of the racist bastards in our nation. I did a paper in college that started with describing the 4 Armageddon horses, but that doesn’t mean I’m a religious wingnut years later when my ‘husband is running for the presidency’. Nope.
can’t recall them endorsing a democrat, ever, very republican area.

always the bridesmaid
You mean he doesn’t?
LOL In my case it was “always drunk and never the bridesmaid”.
I’m sure Lindsey has rested his hand on McCain’s trousers at least once. ;-)
Scarecrow’s upstairs…
Oh my, I’m surprised Brokaw isn’t holding McCain on his lap.
Is Cindy doing tricks again???
Politeness forbids me from making any comment on Cincinnati or anything that goes on there. I lived across the river from that place during one of the worst years of my life.
I read Michelle’s College Paper on Race. IMHO, it is totally benign and reasonable. To indicate otherwise is pure Republican horseshit (paraphrasing John McCain).
Cindy and The Ghoul. The jokes write themselves. She exudes down home warmth and he is the brillant policy wanker.
They have nothing on Barack & Michelle so they’re grasping at straws. Pathetic, but then again, the GOP stands for, “Got Our Pathetics”. See? LOL
Morning pups. Obama had a crowd of 45K here in Albuquerque last night – that close to 10% of the population (give or take)
They certainly do, don’t they. These folks have to understand that you can’t only rely on image alone. Unless there’s a bit of meat in there, we’ll point it out, with a sense of humour they lack…
Some may have already seen the following video, but I ran across it last night and thought it was great:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03fcGelz8Hw
Well, it looks like it’s you and me against Elliott wrt the crazies on Washington Journal. *G* It’s got to the point I can barely stand listening to that program anymore; they’ve gotten progressively worse as they see their racist party goin’ down the toilet. I will loathe mccain and palin forever for all they’ve done to further divide this country……hell is too good for them! Reach across party lines, my forkin’ ass!
This is why KO is now referring to John McCain as: “John ‘Forever Connected To Race Baiting’ McCain”
I first want to correct this important error: When you describe Raaaahhhhhm as..”one of Obama’s top supporters, Rahm Emanuel…”, let’s remember what he’s done to the party and how he withheld his endorsement until Obama was ahead in the polls.
He’s a did in the wool Clintonista.
So having Rahm any where near the White House or at the helm of the party, is not in the interests of Obama, his Presidency, the party or the country.
