Did anyone else hear what I thought I heard in that same Brokaw/McCain interview, during discussion of the mortgage lending debacle?

The gaffe was not McCain’s. It was said by Tom Brokaw, and I’m still fuming. I hope there’s Youtube, because I don’t remember his exact wording, but it struck me as total, coctail-circuit elitism.

In asking McC. about the stock market collapse, and the role of the mortgage crisis, Brokaw, said something akin to,

“Do you think it’s fair for taxpayers to have to foot the bill for people who were wrong or stupid and therefore lost their home?” (paraphrased)

Brokaw repeated the same idea over again during discussion. No mention of the wild speculation and risk-taking on Wall Street, nor the financial institutions that indulged in predatory lending, nor the many many other causes of personal financial hardship, such as lack of ability to get health insurance, pay off huge student loans, losing a job because of layoffs, companies moving their assets and operations overseas etc. etc.

Brokaw simply dumped the whole mortgage crisis and stock market plunge on people who lost their homes because they “did something stupid or wrong.”

HOW. DARE. HE?! NBC should retire Brokaw immediately.

Whether he’s senile, an ignoramus, or just plain lying. He is unfit to serve.

I believe all good Dems and progressives should get behind Palin’s intention to get real Mavericky the next nine days. I can envision a Palin-Huckabee 2012 ticket as the Great White Hope ticket and a real winner, at least among the base.

After he want to great lengths about how he was proud he was that five, count
em, five former secretaries endorsed him, he had stumbled badly over naming four out of five then after Brokaw went on, he awkwardly blurts out George Schultz! It was, overall, a rather frightening (softball though it was) interview. I am now more worried about McCain than I am about Palin.

Joy Behar said last night unapologetically that she is afraid he is suffering from untreated PTSD. He is definitely suffering from some mental disorder. The mood swings are especially troubling. From the relatively charming joke teller at the Waldorf Astoria to the angry but spirited last debate McCain to the rumbling, bumbling, stumbling MTP McCain today.

Was I hearing things or did McCain called Biden, “Joe the Biden?”
