Yep, I saw that when I read the article. IANAL, but it appears there are other factors at play here. Colorado law (33-6-125) prohibits having a round chambered when carried in a car, but the article says the guy had a full mag plus one in the chamber. Even if he normally carried lawfully (empty chamber) racking the slide would have chambered the first round. He got exactly what he asked for, and better than he deserved.

Yep, if he’s referring to HB 89, Sonny signed it in May and it went into effect July 1st of this year. There were lots of little administrative changes (like putting a target of 60 days for county probate courts to process a Georgia Firearms License), but the biggest change was the rule regarding carrying into restaurants. It used to be that weapons could not be carried if alcohol was served on the premises; that was changed to instead follow a 50% rule (if less than 50% of the annual gross receipts are alchohol, its ok to carry there). Its still illegal to carry and drink.

As this is my second tour living in the land of guns and nuts who own them….. in a state that allows open carry and requires businesses to have gun safes if they restrict hand guns in their build……. in the land where my state senator wrote and promoted a law to have and carry guns into bars…..

Not surprised the threats with a gun…. as I said up thread it happens sometimes on a daily basis here…… Is it the gun culture? … Is it the republican lifestyle? Is it the minutemen wackodoodles?

Who knows…… but then I lived in Portland Oregon when a prominent member of the trail blazers basketball team banished a hand gun driving down I-5 back in the mid 90’s…..

I was at that protest at Hofstra marching behind the soldiers of Iraq Veterans Against the War. As a former grunt myself I had to show my solidarity with their plight. About 50 or so riot police made a wall and wouldn’t let the IAWV soldiers through. Then five mounted police charged their horses into the Iraqi veterans, knocked one down and had the horse kick him in the face while he was down. His blood splattered on the ground. So, despite wearing their medals and carrying American flags, these veterans were still trampled by the police. One Vietnam Veteran put it best when he shouted at the police, “You did what Al Qaeda and the insurgents couldn’t do, draw the blood of these brave men.”

In Texas there’s a “51%” sign that by law has to be placed in the window of the place of business, I think that’s a good idea and should probably also be law in GA too. I don’t frequent drinking establishments, but I’ll look/ask the next time I go to one. :)
