Seems one community organizer’s got a little egg on his face this morning. My friend Mike seems to have gotten his wires crossed and combined a coalition event Sat morning, which everybody already knew about, with something else. So there I am, all by my lonesome, down at the rallying point. He used his PDA email list and I should have known better. Very few of those folks are gonna come out and challenge the man.

Ah well, we’ll have a better chance Sat morning. St Pete PD will be waiting for us since we learned long ago to let the world know when we’re going to be doing something. St Pete and Tampa learned years ago that St Pete For Peace is not gonna be involved in any kind of violence or destructive behaviour and we’re respected by both PD’s. The cops on the beat didn’t like the barricades and were hesitant to arrest any of us when we when did civil disobedience. I don’t see this as any different. The city of St Pete will not be happy when they’re forced to defend themselves in federal court over a First Amendment issue.

My pastor put an “open letter” in our bulletin about the elction. here we go again. I almsot fainted. It said being anti-abortion doesn’t make you “pro-lfe” and cited Church pronouncements on things like death penalty and war and poverty. For the first time prior to an election i was at a church where a priest taught taht being “pro-life” was a “womb to tomb” thing. Yes, the Church is anti-abortion and anti-stem cell research. But this guy’s whole point was that Catholics should– no must– look at more than one thing. It was great to see that. Finally. Hope it got through because usually democratid candidates-especially Cathoilc ones-get pounded from the pulpit.

There are a couple like that who have appeared at our events. We had one who shoved one of us who was leaning on a PD golf cart. We lodged a complaint and he was never again at an SPFP event. That’s overtime for them and when they were at BayWalk whenever we were they stood around and watched the pretty young women coming and going from BayWalk and chatting with folks. And they protected us from the nasty drunks, much to the drunks’ surprise. More drunks arrested for assault at BayWalk than protesters, ever. The department decided a year or so ago that we didn’t warrant the police anymore.

Scarborough got nasty with Richard Holbrook this morning. Holbrook called him a “political animal” while telling why Republicans want to beat Joe Biden’s statement about testing to death. Scarborough said, “You don’t call me a political animal and I won’t call you one and maybe we’ll like each other better.”

I wish Holbrook had said, “Not much chance of that, so I’ll just go ahead and call you a political animal.”

Peggy Noonan is gonna be the death of me. Really.

Now she’s blathering on about whether 18 yr. olds are as qualified to vote as experienced, thoughtful 70 year olds.

Never mind her party has found them more than qualified to die in Iraq.

Her next slice of bullshit pie was ‘concern’ about early and absentee voting; “I hope we don’t start to miss out on the experience of standing together on the polling line on election day…blah, blah… it is moving…it’s like a WW II movie…”

I wonder if all this faux concern would exist if McCrazy was up 20% in the early voting instead of Obama.

The cherry on the sundae for me however, is the self satisfaction on her face after one of these ‘rhetorical flourishes’.

Never seen someone so impressed with one’s self. And for nothing.

Yes, leaving France in 1750 would have been too late for the Huguenots, who left a lot earlier. I asked anyhow, though, because a lot of Huguenots settled in SC, via Great Britain. And I’m on the Board of Historic Huguenot Street, and own a Huguenot house.

Hmmm. “Ganug” sounds more German than French. And I don’t recognize the name from my work so far with HHS. But a lot of Huguenots were in northern France, bordering Belgium (the ones that came to New Paltz came from that region via Pfalz in Germany, thus New Paltz) and possibly other areas near Germany, Switzerland, so mingling of names. My knowledge is pretty narrowly focused on the NP Huguenots.
