The people that gave you the Swift Boat lies are behind this disgusting piece of shit.
A group called "Empower Texans," chaired by Tim Dunn of Midland, an associate of Republican Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick, attacked Democratic state House candidate Joel Redmond of Pasadena with a direct mail piece featuring fuzzy images of black and Hispanic lawmakers (plus Barack Obama), several black birds resembling crows, and a picture of the white Redmund. The tag line: "Birds of a feather flock together."
Anyone with any racial sensitivity gets the meaning of the mailer: Redmond has betrayed whites by befriending people of color. He can’t be trusted.
You know what to do.
Donate to the Redmond campaign here.

Crap. I’ve also betrayed whites by having friends of color. I blame the liberal media, they told me it was okay to have friends of color.
What’s the penalty for that in Texas?
Boxturtle (I’ll testify against the NYT, if that’ll help)
In the Waxman hearing, heads of Wall Street ratings firms lying their asses off.
Thanks BT. digg
Yes. And the congress critters are bloviating and not denting the storyline.
I have a hard time getting upset about this. Yes, it’s a blatant appeal to racism. But it’s so unbelievably over the top that it’s hard to imagine it working. I can’t even tell from the ad (or the post) who Redmond’s opponent is. And of the five other pictures in the ad, I only recognize Obama and possibly the woman on the left, who may be Sheila Jackson-Lee. I have no idea who the other 3 people are.
We’ve been saying for years that the GOP is the party of racists, so it’s no surprise that they’d appeal to racists to try to turn out the vote. The only thing that surprises me here is how inept they are at it.
hmm not sure where I fit in here. I guess the oweness is on my dad. for shame pappi you have betrayed the whites…oh mr wobbs you have beterayed the whites and allof you un-american commies (aka progressives) have betrayed the whites (humans, birds,) /s
i have no problem getting upset by this. the imagery keeps building onthe sense of non-white folks being ‘other’ (read: not to be trusted, not like us, etc)and that any white person associating with them is just like them ‘other’
Can’t be very smart people behind this mailing if they are wasting their money trying to shape things in TexASS. Every poll I’ve seen predicts over the top WINGNUT. I’d say, “GO FOR BROKE, GUYS!!!”
What upsets me is that it still WORKS! It’s 2008 snd IT STILL WORKS!!!!
Boxturtle (Btw, did you notice that Obama is black and has a Muslim sounding name?)
Ratings agencies don’t want how they are paid to change, since the way they were paid (by those who came to them for ratings) worked out so well.
The whole “Democrat Party” game is pissing me off. They’re getting away with their efforts to make that “the norm” in our discourse. I noticed Carville bringing it up recently on-air, but they are rarely called on it. William F. Buckley refused to use it even:

Seems minor, but I don’t see why should let Lush Limpbaugh win one.
Thanks
What, if anything, is the rating agencies legal liabilities?
That’s what the white police will be thinking tonight when us white folks get together with “those others” to stand up to the rich white man’s rules.
egads, I missed the whole ‘democrat’ party. they need to knock that shit off. ut then again, we can just call them the republic party
((SD)) yep. If your not with them, your against them.
It doesn’t surprise me that it stillworks. it is one of the ways that identity is crreated. You contrast it against another group (which is not bad by itself) and valuate those differences (that is when it gets bad)
That’s what I’m wondering. Class action.
Yes, despicable. But, who else can they sway in Texas??? Aren’t all the racists going to vote republic anyways?
As happens in all these hearings or with Henry Paulson last night on Charlie Rose, all these guys act as if they were watching events that they had nothing to do with, took no part in, and have no responsibility for. The truth is that these are the villains. These are the people who looted the system to the point of crashing it.
I don’t know whether they are legally liable for their opinions/ratings at all. That’s why I asked.
Texas Observer (Molly’s paper) as of 10/17/8
Democrats have been hungrily eyeing this open seat since Republican incumbent Robert Talton gave it up for a failed bid for Congress in 2007. Many believe Democrat Joel Redmond, the son of a popular Baptist pastor in the Pasadena district, has the conservative credentials and charisma to turn out voters in District 144.
Although the district is 58.3 percent Republican, twice as many Democrats as Republicans turned out for the March primary. In the past few months Redmond has also outpaced his Republican opponent, Ken Legler, in fundraising. According to his most recent filing, Redmond raised $137,000 to Legler’s $45,000 in campaign funds.
Dya think? Then congress let’s them be in charge of “fixing” it. Stockholm Syndrome anyone?
Still on the hearings: Either these guys are crooks or they are too stupid to manage a one car parade.
The only thing that was Triple A in this was the greed.
35 years ago I thought that the end of racial bigotry and universal use of the Metric system was just right around the corner. I am about to lose hope that it will NEVER change.
(Boxturtle – did you know John McCain was a POW in Vietnam?? /s)
heh republic heh they would have an aneurysm if we referred to them as such. wankers
Okay, I contributed a little, BT, based upon that nasty flyer. I was glad to see that the candidate is already doing much better on fund raising and balance on hand than his republican opponent.
One needs a brain to suffer from an aneurysm.
Joel Redmond was endorsed by the republic Houston Chronicle 10/17
Could they be stupid crooks – the two are not mutually exclusive.
Triple-A Greed! A new financial security. Should trade like crazy.
Sort of like my idea to eliminate the eggs & bacon for breakfast & just saute thin slices of cholesterol in butter, with plenty of salt.
Get down to the essence!
Well, they took home $80 million, so whatever kind of crooks they are, they are successful ones.
How very true. *g*
I’m pretty easily upset by overt racism.
Bravo!
But see, they wouldn’t mind that since America is actually a Republic, so it makes them seem more patriotic. I remember quickly spouting off that we should say, “Republic Party” here one day and everyone was like, “Hey, I like that!” but then thought about this other implication of that. Not sure if I started it, but I had never seen it before…we know how that stuff goes though…
The reason this ever started (many decades ago…being revived recently) was that it bugged them that Democrats just luckily have this benefit in correct grammar that so many things are described as Democratic, and that happens to be the correct way to say the Party name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democrat_party
So when they say they want to bring Democratic reforms to Iraq for instance, it’s sort of a subliminal plug for the DemocratIC Party. They hate this, so that’s why they’ve been pushing “Democrat Party” so hard the last few years. Shrub did it for a while during press conferences, but got called on it and he stopped. Many BigMedia Ken and Barbie dolls and practically every Repube politician use it right now, and they’re rarely called on it.
I simply don’t want them to get away with it, that’s all.
MSNBC:
Men/man on campus shooting at Kentucky state university.
What is so amazing in all this is that all their models were garbage, their ratings were garbage, and just coincidentally they made a lot of money out of them. As eCahn said earlier, who could have predicted?
I understand that (were we in some sort of disagreement that I am totally unaware of?) They get pissy if you call them the republic party. i have done it before when they referred to us as the democrat party
These Asshole will stoop to anything including blatant Racism to try and stay in power. They fear the day when we have a Justice Department who Will look at their criminal activities over the last eight years!! I can’t Wait for the summons to start flowing out of the DOJ next year!!
Oh and thanks to lookin4aparty for opening the Digg!!
Doin’ a quick fly-by. So, is the challenge to out-do the fundraising for Bachmann’s opponent? Would be a great message to send.
Want to make them really mad, call them Repubs. By the way, I actually heard a host on NPR, correct a Republican by saying Democrats prefer to be called Democratic party. Forget which program it was. I was actually quite surprised.
ack.
listening to waxman’s hearing while away from the blogs. but this just too nuts (paraphrasing):
glad to see some here are listening to this too. amazing.
it’s revolting
btw
McCain and Al Qaeda: You Telling Me Y’all Believed That?
Spencer’s up
teehee. I think that one that would make their heads explode now would be to refer to them as Mccain’s party *G*
thanks. glad you all are listening too.
If that’s the case, why have they sent a letter to Mukasey to ask for a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Dems connection to Fannie and Freddie circa 1997-1998? I cannot believe they wanted to open that one up! If they do, I cannot see any reason to prevent criminal prosecutions for the entire Rethug administration for everything from torture to abuse of power!
FWIW, that was at Western Kentucky University in bowling Green, KY.
I specify as there is a Kentucky State University in Frankfort which is the state’s historically black college.
It can be a bad situation at either school but if it were KSU, it makes it that much worse.
McCain/Palin has given all the racists the green lite to come out of their caves and prove to the world that the US does not practice what it preaches.
But I am much more worried about voter supression.
Just a question. I am afraid that I do not understand what possible problem could exist if a voter registration card stated that the party was republician. Other than voting in a closed primary, what possible difference could it make in the general? Remember the Rush limbaugh project to get repigs to change over to dems so they could vote for HRC?
OTOH the heads of the ratings agencies are putting forth the line that they are experts and that they really know what is going on but on the other they completely missed the housing bubble, just didn’t see it at all. This is especially grating because we were talking about it around here in 2005.
It’s not that we prefer it, it’s just correct grammar.
Don’t think there was any problem. Simply expanding on the point. Hey, anytime you can make a Repub pissy, it’s all good to me!
thanks for clearing that up
being an expert has nothing to do with getting it right. that’s just dfh talk.
gotcha. best way to piss them off is to hand them their asses
Yeah, well, let’s face it. They say Democrat party to poke us in the eye. It is their backhanded way of slapping us. It is deliberate, and they have been called on us many times, but they continue. I believe I’ve seen David Shuster out and out accuse some Rethug of deliberately using the term Democrat party to get our goat when they know it is insulting to us. I definitely heard it, I’m just not sure the participants in the conversation. Not sure it was David Shuster, have no idea who the Repug was.
have been thinking for sometime now that having an African American successfully running for president has been like a dye injected in to the body politic – by 11/5 we’ll know where all the malignancies have been hiding
Republik (with a k) goes better./s
Ecahnomics, you are definitely on a roll today.
I can see something positive in all these racist mailers being sent out in different areas of the country. While it may garner the GOP a few (racist) votes today, it loses them young non-racist voters forever in the future. By using these tactics it reveals to young people what the GOP stands for. When these mailers are sent out or placed on door knobs in blanketing fashion, they are seen by everybody not just the folks who fear having a black man for president.
I’m appalled that any graphics shop would lend any time or effort to producing crap like this, or that any printer anywhere would actually plate and press it.
These things must be produced by someone. Find out which businesses created and printed them — and deny them further business. Drive them out of operation.
Obama is half Irish…so why do we only hear Black Black Black?
His great great great great grandfather arrived here in 1850, so that makes his family ‘older’ than most.
