King Curtis "Memphis Soul Stew"
Now is the time for all of us to remind all our friends and neighbors to get out and vote. Vote early and request a paper ballot if at all possible. Maybe offer a ride to those in need. So how about sending this song along with a nice friendly reminder? Tell them firedoglake sent you.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Aloha, ES!
Eureka!
Oh, the heater just came on — winter season is here, dammit!
Speaking of paper ballots, I have my mail in version right here next to me and the election office is one block out of my way to work.
Suck it Diebold.
This.Is.Cool!
Hey Eureka, 13 days…
lol it is in the triple digits here. i can’t imagine the heater coming on
Hawaii utilizes fill-in paper ballots that are optically scanned…
Evening all
We still have that option (by request only) in AR. They are really pushing folks to THE MACHINE. And we have had troubles with the machines here as well.
I have read that the mail in votes are in jeopardy of being fucked with.
Hey Wobbs!
It will be so cold tonight that our heater is blowing and blowing.
CT, I don’t quite understand the deal on the mountain. I hr off, one on?
Are you outside? Why is it so cold? yadda yadda… Can you stay online?
Hiya Christine !
We’ve had ours on for more than a week. It got to 10 degrees F yesterday …
I found this old post from KaylnMaine. It’s about the transition team. It sounds like the person schrub put in place stays is place. INAL so maybe some one could do a post on the transition and how it may be different from the good ole days of 8 years ago.

((( ES )))
i can’t wait until it cools down here
it was 91 downtown la today
Got a spare room ? *g*
Nasty. Nasty LA.
(((Petrocelli))) What’s shakin’ in the north country?
10 F Petrocelli is shakin’ that’s what.
Hey Petro!
Wow, the heater is blowing like crazy, I’m trying to order firewood.
ROFL
Luckily, we’re well stocked with Grand Marnier and other delights …
We got a Gas Fireplace … looks like wood but without the messy cleanups … best thing I bought with this place.
I think Senator Gordon Smith wins the most disgusting Republican award of the year (Domestic disgust, anyhow)
it is nasty with the santa Anas blowing. noocean breeze, just nasty desert breeze. It’s fire season and all this pollen blowing around. not a happy camper
yep. but you have to share it with weebits and snuffybits (dog). they like to sleep in there sometimes
Oh man.. I love GM. Once ran across a 150 year old bottle. Words fail when trying to describe that kind of bliss in a glass.
I’m in Ventura County in California. It is still warm and dry (uncomfortable) in my house. Still windy, Santa Anna’s. I look forward to it being cooler so I can have a crackling fire in my fireplace.
Dugg your DiGG ES Oh and good evening late late nite Pups(:>))
devil winds. any fires up your way?
Thank you thank you, kind sir.
Petrocelli – are you still here? I had to leave for a while.
You had a question about the Stevens case in the last htread I haven’t answered yet.
Gas is convenient but the price of natural gas s going up and up. I have my Buck stove – and lots of wood both with I get for free Almond that I buy. The warmth of these stoves is what I love… They are always nice and warm!!
Not now, hopefully not ever. How about where you are?
I love wood, don’t mind the cleanup. I love the smells and the sounds and the look of it. Heaven.
Even if Petro isn’t here, I’m curious about the Trial of Senator Toobz is playing in Alaska…
No, we’re in the southbay area of LA. No fire and the wind really hasn’t reached us. I can only tell because me allergies are acting up
We be happy tonight We finally got the plans for our Solar installation with all the specs designs and such. Just need to approve them and then wait for the city to approve and then construction can begin!!!! Can’t wait to be our very own power generation Station!!
I didn’t buy gas this summer as I usually do. I think waiting was the smart move.. prices are falling every day now.
But I heat my house almost exclusively with wood.
Sunny, I’m a laser spotter, when they lase, they’re required to have spotters to ensure no aircraft are nearby, we work one hour outside, then one hour inside (getting warm!). We did have access to computers, but, somebody flubbed it up by downloading porno! I’m the oldest of the spotters, they’re basically all college students at my old alma mater UH-H and Astronomy majors…! ;-)
Oops – just got a call from Peter Bevis, my best friend in Seattle. Back to explain in 30 minutes or so……..
Poor thing, allergies are the worst. At least you don’t have the ugly winds.
How many panels?
You’re in Hilo?
The first tracking poll published each day is Zogby’s. It is published 12:45 AM ESDT.
Today’s results show Obama at 52.2 and McCain at 40.3. Yesterday it was
Obama 51.6 and McCain 42.0.
Zogby is quoted as saying the AP poll published yesterday is “not simply an outlier, but preposterous.”
I found this reassuring.
You betcha! ;-)
Hi ET … thanks for answering !
When I was a kid, my stepfather, who grew up in Alaska, would blast the airconditioning in our house (in southern california) so he could build a real wood fire in our fireplace. I loved it then and love it now.
How are de Silva Elementary and Hilo Intermediate?
Your video of highway assholes was outstanding Suz credited you.
Zogby called it preposterous? With their Rethug lean… wow.
Bush-worst JAR as president evah
McCain-worst JAR as a candidate evah
yeah, they haven’t quite hit us but they have blocked the sea breeze so we got a bit warm today
Dugg it!
Evening, ES
Evening, Pups
teehee
de Silva is pretty good elementary and Hilo Inter is not bad, all three of my kids have gone through Hilo Inter… de Silva is a little one and not many locals even know about it…! How do you know…? 8-)
If Obama runs the country half as well as he’s run this campaign, we’re going to be several orders of magnitude better off than we are currently. But you already know that.
Only one way to go…! Worse Prez… Evah!!!
I can’t wait until it we get real autumn weather.
Yep.
I went to school there?
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Actually, I attended sixth grade at deSilva and seventh and eighth at HIS. Then my folks closed the cabinet shop and we moved back to California, where I attended HS and college.
Have you guys found youtube to be loading very slowly?
That’s funny. I had an uncle who loved to drive with all of the windows down in winter… blasting the heater.
I still do that sometimes. And I rarely wear socks indoors, unless it’s in the low teens or colder outside.
Good evening, neuro.
Not I…. but my toobz were super slow all afternoon.
i think we still have a few more weeks before it kicks in *sigh*
16 panels, the overall output is a bit smaller at 10.8 Kw vs 11.0 kw… Small difference from expected but the payment also goes down!!
You are tougher than me, I wear socks indoors if it is below 70. I am such a wuss.
I am going to tell you guys something really personal but funny. The new dog
just chewed up my silicone breast prosthesis. Ron brought it in to me and said he found it in her ever growing pile of found objects. A breast in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Anybody see the Brian Williams interview of McPalin tonight? I thought he looked like he wanted to smack her when she said he had been endorsed by four secs of state and he corrected her, no, it was five.
ROFL *spew* awww those critters get into everything
I hope we get some Autumn weather before it kicks into winter. Last year it was really cold during the winter. For California that is, and my house is insulated very poorly.
OMFG!
Has anyone ever told you that you are lacking in personality, Mary?
((((( mary ))))) … God, I love your spirit !
We do also as the old radiant pipes in the floor have been failing. They were put in in 1954 so I guess they did their job for many years..
Brian wanted to smack her or Johnman.
she also couldn’tdefine ‘pre-conditions’
Oh no. I’m sorry to hear that.
I really got the feeling he wanted her to just shut up and let The Man do the talkin’
Too funny Mary.. We are lucky Tucker is a little Angel. He never chews anything but what we give him and if we leave him home alone for hours nothing is every out of place or any doodoo’s left on the floor!!
that stupid woman can’t define/explain anything of value.
I wanted her to shut up and let the man do the talkin.
Wow.. that’s a lot! Wait til I tell my friend who runs his whole house off of one panel about 5′ square.
What kind of dog?
And Tweety was all over Miss Pfucky (one of McCain’s people) tonight. He was pissed and spitting. (ok, he spits all the time) I thought she was going to die. Perhaps it is time we started calling him Mr. Matthews.
707!
you are lucky. my pup chewed the bottom of the wood siding in the backyard and left lil stinky piles EVERYWHERE!!!
Kewl! A long time ago? Kaiko’o Mall is long gone and Wal-mart, Home Depot, and Office Max have since invaded and we have a large shopping center located by KTA off of Puainako street!
That was brutal and wonderful.
“Don’t come on my show and shovel that shit.”
About fucking time, Tweety.
but i like calling him tweety
I saw that, I swear I thought she might cry! It was beautiful, she is such a twit.
doxie and jack russell. She is wonderful and the smartest dog I have ever lived with. We got her about three months ago and she is about a year old. Suke is her name. Beloved in Japanese. Wally The Best Dog/God Ever is in love with her even though she beats the crap out of him all the live long day. Wally is a doxie terrier mix.
me, too.
I agree with wobbs, he’s still Tweety…! ;-)
Oh yeah. We left in 1967. You can see some of my Dad’s work in the doors and confessionals at the Catholic church in Hilo.
I cannot begin to imagine funky little Hilo with a WalMart and a Home Depot.
Ari did a diary…
Pfeffenfeffer getting just drilled.
Me too.. plus he has about 7 years of serious redemption to make up before we have to really consider him even. *g*
What made Tweety mad was the Repugs defending the indefensible.
Yesterday, he gave Buchanan a lot of grief as well.
My wife remarked that he’s finally throwing some hardballs…! ;-)
Peter Gabriel & Youssou Ndour – Shakin’ The Tree
Aren’t animals the best! They all have their own special personalities. They are such precious members of the family.
Heh, Not so little anymore! Still funky, tho! 8-)
I think the Angry McCain Campaign has aroused some of Tweety’s own anger. They have crossed the line as far as he’s concerned. Or so it seems.
It seems Chris Mathews has finally grown a pair. Yeah!
totally!
Rachel really reamed Pat’s okole today, too! ;-)
I will stop calling him Tweety if he asks whether Palin got her info. from the current Veep …
I saw it. It. Was. Beautiful.
nitePups time to hit the hay…
Dammit, missed her tonight … must catch the rerun.
he is too prone to foot in mouth to ever be anything but tweety
During the last pres election I drove “hard cases” to the polls during early voting. Folks in outlying areas, nursing homes, people who were temp out of the county, folks whose registrations were fubar, etc. County party had a list. I did only two per day and sometimes there still wasn’t enough time, particularly when we ended up at the Registrar’s office. In every Registrar case we were able to get non-provisional votes.
Took them all to the same location, small school with decent handicapped parking. They had a portable laptop voting machine that could be brought to the car if necessary (never did learn whose equipment it was – unmarked and no one seemed to know). Very unstable …..or something. Saw way too many votes flipping around and there were limits to how much help I could give. None of my people were even vaguely computer familiar.
Bad experiences, but great to meet so many good folks determined to vote in person. My tongue was practically bleeding from being bitten so many times. Seemed pointless and cruel to suggest to fragile folks that there might be a problem.
G’nite Sir !
I’m off to bed as well … G’nite all !
Aloha, nahant!
boa noite nahant
Sweet dreams.
Ron told me that Pat had something to do with Rachel coming on the Olbermann show the first time. He has a secret crush on her.
My brother has been back twice, my sister once. Both said that Hilo hasn’t changed nearly as much as Kailua, it’s still a funky little town.
I’ve been back to the Islands three times, but haven’t been able to get back to Hilo. I’ve fallen in love with Princeville on the north shore of Kauai. I do need to get back to the Big Island one of these days.
boa noite petro
Aloha, Petro! Still no publicist in the works…? ;-)
Rachel Video and audio podcasts now…
Excellent, punaise… Never grows old, does it?
I must agree with them… Kailua town has changed dramatically in all aspects… It has besides a Wal-mart and a Home Depot, but, a Lowe’s, K-mart, and Costco to boot and the traffic is brutal…!
Sleep well and sweet dreams.
Clears up a lot of my confuson, thanks.
I think one has to trust it’s still the right thing to do and that it will all come out in the wash.
Better you were there than someone who would have taken extreme advantage of the situation.
boa noite pups
I love how she interacts with Pat. She laughs at him like he is a tantrum throwing child. She is great!
Aloha, Wobbs!
Sweet dreams to you.
nite petro, wobbs
And Hapuna Beach? Is it still a good place to camp?
Good night all. I am going to sleep.
Is this ever enforced?
http://www.usatoday.com/news/r…..htm?csp=34
I agree! But, you couldn’t point out the vote flipping to the Registrar’s office, Sunny?
Good night, sleep well and sweet dreams to you.
Not when the church in question endorses a ReichWing candidate.
Nothing is going to come of this.
I think that was “rictus-faced” Nancy Pfotenhauer.
You can still camp there, but, you now have the Hapuna Prince hotel overlooking the beach on the north side…!
Seemingly never from where I sit… especially a Bushco IRS. Unless it helps them.
It was and she was not a happy camper.
Sigh. And I imagine the hotel’s guests use the beach as their back yard?
You’d think the State Parks Department would have had something to say about it. Like, “No!”
Jane’s Harriet Christian video on The Daily Show! Cool!
‘
Perhaps against scientology. I’ve never heard of it being seriously pushed against any Christian denomination. But, I’d support them if they did.
I caught a bit of it, and it was nice to see.
I am sick to death of these so-called “religious” orders using their pulpit to dictate political opinions and instructions and getting away with non-profit status. I say tax the bastards.
If Tweety keeps it up, I’ll be forced to change my user name… oh noes!
I usually don’t like seeing people stomped on, but Pfotenhauer is such a phoney, and full of crap, that it was a delight to see.
The video from the Dem battle? That’s so old now.
Neat campaign pics of Obama.
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/…..456311.jpg
I think they should take that act to the WWF. It’s great entertainment.
King Curtis was a BAD MAN!
There’s a church over in the next county who are now fighting paying municipal taxes.. and the fire department is in serious trouble.
The fundies have turned pro forking fire now!
That would be great, make it mudwrestling!
That PfBimbo was like a fish out of water her jaw kept working and ol’ Tweety just slammed her up against the wall and slapped her around.
I LOVED it!
Hard to beat the King
Wait until their fire insurance rates go through the roof when the department’s status is downgraded by the Insurance Institute.
Well they do sell fire and brimstone….
THe Coasters wouldn’t have been a hit without him
They can access the beach, but, it’s not their ‘backyard’ like the Mauna Kea Beach Resort’s beach or the Hilton Waikoloa beach…!
BTW, all these changes have occurred since I graduated in ‘84! ;-)
I’m seeing more and more so-called journalists doing journalism for a change. Is it something that got into the drinking water?
The story was on the AR Blog… I let the fundies have it… made their heads spin, believe me.
A Democrat is about to be in charge. Time for the tough questions thingy.
Obama pic on lottery tickets in Columbia, the country
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/…..8c9957278e
I have noticed this as well. Hate to look like a tin-foil hat wearer, but I heard Obama was summoned to the Bilderberg meeting in Chantilly, VA recently….maybe has something to do with the tides of change? or the change of tides?
Yeah, the MKBR wasn’t too swift. On the other hand, my dad made all of the display cases for the lobby and the golf pro shop. I am sure they’ve been remodeled out of existence since, but we ate a lot of meals from those cabinets…
So you think it the same obsequiousness toward. No page has been turned?
I’ve got to say that I think you’re right, but I so hope that there’s more to it.
I’m wondering which Obama is going to show up in January. I’m hoping that this so-called “turn toward the center” was simply a campaign maneuver. But, of course, I’m not going to be on it.
Actually I was just being a dick to Tweety. He’s a smart guy, perhaps captured by the glamor circuit, something. Whatever.
But they are literally intellectually insulted by this, IMO.
I’m with you. I say we hope for the best, but if we don’t see it we scream all together until we are heard. I really believe there are enough of us now to ensure that we are heard. Let us hope that change is sincere.
Oh, I did that. And I wasn’t alone. She was an officer in that voting officials group sponsored by the mfgs of the machines. The group that had meetings in exotic places. spit..
Obama is a centrist. Period.
Given his status as a constitutional scholar, I think we can count on him to correct some (not all) of the worst excesses of eight years of BushLeague Gov’t. I expect that we’ll some correction to the USA PATRIOT Act, some real limits to wiretapping, etc.
I expect to see Bush’s infamous tax cuts allowed to die their well-deserved death in 2010. Any more progressive ideas are going to have to come from us and Congress.
Tweety underwent something of a conversion when Obama made his famous Philadelphia speech in response to the Rev. Wright stuff. That made a big impact on him and he has been something of an Obama partisan ever since.
It flipped me, too. That was just bold, bright politics.
Jane and Glenzilla and others are putting together a project to primary the most offensive of the Dem congress critters in 2010. That sounds like a most worthy effort.
And I say we exert as much pressure where ever we must to see more progressive ideas implemented.
I’ve got to agree with that … very impressive stuff.
It most certainly does. Anything I can do to help, I am there.
It’s up to places and people like like us…and a solid push from a significant portion of the three million cash contributors.
We have to hit the ground running after the election and push against folks like Powell being invited to the table and for good appointees throughout etc.
The big rattler we had awhile back closed down the MKBR, and it’s still closed! They’re unsure whether they’ll repair the structural damage or raze it and start anew…
LOL .. At first read I thought somebody closed due to a snake.
Obama’s got holes in his soles: http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..150/638528
Wasn’t it another Illinois Senator, Adlai Stevenson, who used to show off the holes in his soles fifty years ago?
Ain’t no snakes here in the Isles, ES! ;-)
It is very good politics.
Obama’s going to face some trouble in the midterms. The economy is still going to suck pond scum, and American voters are notoriously impatient about that sort of thing.
It’s not clear to me that the GOoP is going to continue to be stupid about its candidates and campaigns.
Getting rid of the worst of the DINOs is a good idea. And running real progressives in every primary for open seats is just as important.
Here http://firedoglake.com/2008/10…..y-project/ is all I know. But I’m looking forward to more.
I’ve been calling Palin “Ni,” but I think it’s time to break out the big hardware.
From now on, it’s “Imelda.”
Amen. From your mouth to Obama’s ear, ES.
Good night, pups.
IMHO, DINOs are worse than Republicans — it’s harder to get rid of them and they prevent coherent action.
Thanks for the heads up.
We have a few million to share if y’all ever want a little excitement.
The big rattlers always show themselves in late fall around here.
Good night and sweet dreams to you.
OT: I’m told that there used to be a shoe store in Berkeley called “Imelda’s Closet.”
You get some cool boots yet?
nite BC
Rest well
In that election, results here were a foregone conclusion. This time I wouldn’t be so sanguine. Still hoping the machine mess will be addressed by a new congress – money, sigh…
Aloha, BC!
Ding!
I can’t believe how long it’s taken me to convince local Dems how important this is. Ones own party integrity/accountability is a must. Why is that so hard for folks to understand?
YES
That’s quite alright! I like ‘em right where they are…! :-P
You know it! And always a solid walking stick and or gun.
Hallelujah and amen!
Others are noticing this shift in the mainstream media. This is from Wednesday’s Glenzill:.
It has gotten to be that time.
G’nite all.
Good night, peace and sweet dreams.
when his site was central in pushing President Bush’s re-election.”
It was central to Hillary (and big media) six months ago!

I am off to watch the rest of Charlie Rose, who has Ace Greenberg of Bear Stearns fame on. At the end I expect to send an e-mail to Charlie Rose correcting him on Ace Greenberg’s claims of complete innocence, for himself and his contemporaries, regarding our current financial mess. Peace and best wishes to all.
Aloha, wigwam!
Articles like this should have came out a long time ago. This pic & others should have been shown more often he’s good looking and doesn’t look threatening at all.

He couldn’t stop looking at the ceiling throughout the entire interview… was very telling.
Aloha, Sophie!
And they say advertising companies have laid off the acid…
That’s great!

Funny
We also have more women news reporters then ever before.
CT, there is a really good Independent Lens on PBS tonight.
Is it a cartoon?
The animation appears to be reenactments of court room proceedings. I haven’t watched much yet.. on my Tivo awaiting.
Which I think i will watch a bit of before turning in.
Good night firedogs
Aloha, ES! It’s on right now here, but, the soundtrack is not coming in because ‘This is PBS’ is looping continuously without end like a stuck record…! 8-(
Good night Sophiehunter enjoy Charley… one of my faves when I watched TV. Been clean for two years.
nite eureka
Good hosting Job ES. Stay well we will have to endure mediocrity….better than disater.
The Bachmann response may serve us well among the money equals power set.
The DCCC’s belated involvement in Bachmann’s campaign may be intended to counter any impression her defeat (pray dog) is an intertubes coup. Can’t have the DFHes claiming policy clout.
liked her new shoes, eh?
Like would be too strong a word. I like that her party was so ham-handed about her wardrobe, and now Gooper Critters are screaming bloody murder about financing of their races. That brings a smile.
I like Obama’s shoes better.
The DCCC, even Pelosi, Rahm and Hoyer themselves tried to save Al Wynn. And we have Donna Edwards now. And they know who did a lot of that.
Lots of choice financial news on Wed, if by “choice” you mean “bad.” My favorite:
FDIC Seeks Office Space in SoCal
They’re looking for 2-3 yr leases. I’m quite sure they’ve never geared up anything close to this before. Mass loan mods, and probably indictments, to follow.
Newt, this is from Oct. 14th…
Yep. I didn’t know about Bilbray. But if we could pick off Lungren, that would be beautiful!
Time for Obama to kick down some of those September spoils and build his down-ticket his own self.
It will pay big dividends later.
The DCCC, even Pelosi, Rahm and Hoyer themselves tried to save Al Wynn. And we have Donna Edwards now. And they know who did a lot of that.
And it makes me smile. Particularly Rahm, the self-aggrandizing hypercreep.
I agree! He definitely should spread the wealth around…! ;-)
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
I heard Rahm speak again recently. It struck me how badly-spoken he is. He could barely string a full sentence together. He may be all punk. Not betting against it. And of course, a first-class asshole.
nite tuttle. thanks for the politico link
Interesting. I can’t get past the assholery to make any assessment. To be bipartisan, same is true of Issa. No idea if he’s a smart or stupid jerk.
Issa is just plain mean. He is a criminal (proven in fact) in a suit, in a Congressman’s seat. And did I mention, he is mean?
Not mean like a child, and not mean like a mule – mean like an abused teenager who is finding victims to reflect his abuse upon.
If you ever get a chance to see his questioning of Joe Wilson in committee, watch briefly. It’s astounding.
I think it’s possible that Rahm is not very bright, and that may be the sum of the man.
nite pups
