I know that you cannot judge a campaign solely by the numbers of people attending speeches, but Missouri is a critical state to both candidates, it is hard to believe there isn’t some significance in the dynamics of this.
On Saturday Obama spoke in St. Louis and Kansas City, between the two events, he attracted nearly 200,000.
Meanwhile, we have this scene in Columbia, Missouri yesterday:
The Republican presidential nominee from Arizona landed at the Columbia Regional Airport around 12:30 p.m. As McCain disembarked from the plane, a man yelled, "Go get ‘em, John."…
A crowd of about 15 people assembled outside the airport’s fence to see him descend from the plane.
Okay, here’s a rule of crowd estimation. It is okay to say a crowd was thousands, or hundreds, but it can never be "about 15", if there are "about" 15, you’ve got time to get the number exactly right.
And how does this compare to the past?
In 2000, when then-Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush visited the airport there was a much larger crowd, Stuart said.

I am going to laugh about this…about 15 times. When you’re having multiple gut laughs, they tend to run together.
It was about 15 because Aunt Midge really was there, she just had to keep leaving for her Chinese Singing Lessons. And Homer, well he was sleepin’ it off out back, but he was there, really. An’ the pet pig, well everyone in these parts calls Mrs. Beasley a person, an’ she was there, too.
I have no idea.
I once had a client who was in sales for a new company. My partner asked him, “How many customers do you have?”
His answer “We’re approaching 500.”
My partner knew that he was making this up. We asking him later, “Really, how many customers do you have?”
“48″
We explained to him how it was better not to lie in such an egregious fashion.
“But I didn’t say I had 500 customer. I’m APPROACHING 500.”
Yeah, from the next state.
Citizen Raven:
Hey Freebird, how’s life in the heartland a democracy and anus a progress? Have the good ol’ boys stopped cryin’ about them dawgs?
It looks like yer Fightin’Illini tight end (Tim Brewster)has the Golden Gophers in line for a BCS bowl…who’d a thunk it??!!! There are even some who give ‘em a shot at 10 wins…they’re 6-1 and have Purdue and Michigan at home and Wisconsin and Iowa on the road so 8-3 or even 9-2 is not out of the question. He’s full of BS but he walks the talk and this good ol’ boy ken flat assed recuit!!!
I will be in stitches on Nov 5
Good Morning, How many of the 15 were employees of the airport?
Bah hahahahahaha! 15 people? Wow. How embarrassing for Johnny.
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks and Herbert. Bobo is playing sociologist again today. Apparently Soccer Moms and Hockey Moms and Nascar Dads aren’t cutting it any more. Bobo has now given us Patio Man. He says, in “Patio Man Revisited,” that for all the talk of plumbers, investment bankers and elitists, Patio Man — the quintessential suburban American — is still at the epicenter of national politics. It’s never dawned on Bobo that possibly, just possibly, a “suburban American” in Georgia may have different viewpoints from a “suburban American” in northern California. What a tool. Mr. Herbert, at least, is focused on something important. In “The Real Scandal” he says the real threat to democracy is the nonstop campaign by the G.O.P. and its supporters to disenfranchise American citizens who have every right to cast a ballot.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels and cream cheese. Two weeks to go… I think I’m going to have to take the day after election day off — I’m hoping that I won’t be in any condition to go to work after celebrating. Have a great day.
Exactly. I wondered the same thing when I watched Sen. Susan Collins’ Bus Tour to Nowhere:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjLM61XReqk
It appears the motorcycle gang pulled up ahead, so they could get off and greet her. No one else came to shake her hand. LOL
that’s what they would have you believe attaturk, this picture is st louis alone
that’s “about 100,000?
now, I can’t see how far the crowd goes to obama’s left but to his right is a figure exponential to 100,000
if the masses are gathered to his right as well, this is closer to 1 million then one hundred thousand
if the crowd does not amasse to the right then this is probably around 3 to 4 hundred thousand not counting kansis city
so who here thinks that crowd is less then a few hundred thousand?

Was at te rally in Orlando yesterday. AP crowd estimate was 50,000. Orlando police put it at closer to 40,000. The 50,000 was from the fire marshall so the camapign didn’t just pull it out its ass. It was a real number. Why the discrepency? Don’t know./ But I think the cops counted te people actually at the rally. there were tons of people who couldn’t get close. I got on line at about 3-3:15 and barely made it to a place where I could see the Jumbotron. the entire time I was on line, a staedy stream of people was walking past to get on the end of the line. If I barely made it to be able to see the Jumbotron, most of those people didn’t get close. So I’d split the baby probably and put it at 45,000. BTW Hillary was fanatstic. She’s been doing a lot in the last few days and her voice was a tiny bit raspy. Souded that way anyway. She was great. Better than the convention I thought. She started the “Jobs baby, jobs chant”
Thanks for sharing the video. Earlier I watched Joe in the Morning bash Biden’s talking point about Obama being tested in office during the first six months. I needed a laugh. Why is Collins so popular?
Ooops. Quotation marks in wrong place. “Jobs baby, jobs” chant. the rest of the mistakes I’m not even gonna bother. Sorry ’bout that.
How was the reaction in the crowd?
To Hillary? Great. Really great. Alot of black people and every one of them, far as I could tell was into her speech. Shit, even Bill Nelson got a great response and I guess he was really pumped. He actually deviated from the monotone once or twice.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s clear and cool this morning, here in central Jersey. What a crowd in St. Louis! Mr. NJP and I won’t get to see Obama this campaign–he’s only campaigning in red states, and NJ is safely blue. Sending good wishes to Obama’s grandmother in Hawai’i.
I’ve got a bad cold, so no treats today. Marion’s already laid out a nice spread up thread. I’ll be more hospitable when I feel better.
Work for peace, every day.
Barack told the pie story again. That’s getting stale so to speak. Drop it, Barack.
Citizen perris:
Thanx for the comment…that’s what I thought too when I saw the photos earlier this last evening. But in any even, it is clear that both campaigns have internal numbers from across the country that are pretty much the same and Crazy John McCain is gunna go batshit on election night…I think they’re gunna call it by 9:00PM Central time election night. The crowds are huge and they are PUMPED!!! I am waitin for the Brown Shirts and the Aryans for McCain ta start attackin’ folks at the Obama rallies but as I learned at the Labor Day march, those redneck sons a bitches don’t have the stomach for a fight in broad daylight with a whole lotta angry outta work folks.
She’s really not that popular….at least if you look at the money flow to her campaign. Most of it is from out of state. People here vote for her because they don’t know her record and have no idea how to find it to look at it. It’s very frustrating. One good thing? The Bangor Daily News came out in support of Tom Allen. This paper represents her district, woohoo!
If Tom Allen does win on election day, it’s because of the youth here in Maine who came out to vote for him. Pure and simple. The youth of Maine knows how to use a computer and can get her voting record at a click of the mouse. ;-)
I loved this time of year in NJ. Taking drives out to the Delaware Water gap and checking out the foliage, goin’ to pumpkin farms and hayrides. All that stuff. And I’m still jonesin’ for that Taylor ham.
Maybe the extra 10,000 were McCain supporters wanting to take a peek at greatness? Hey, could be!
Oh yeah. Know somebody who early voted yesterday. Waited in line 2 1/2 hours. they said tere was more early voting yesterday in my county – which is one of the larger counties in the state and broke evenly between Bush & Kerry – taht there were more early votes yesterday alone than the whole early voting period in 2004.
lol, “Patio Man.” Sounds like Bobo gets a glimpse of this prized demographic from Sitcoms.
The paper said there were a few there with plungers. How stupid and pathetic is that? Didn’t see any McCain people. Except the cops but they were keeping it to themselves. Very professional, right?
Oh, so it WASn’t 50,000? Crowd overestimated, eh?
This is excellent news…for John McCain.
Huffington has an article taht McCain is giving up on CO which is being publicly denied by the McCain people who speak for attribution. ASrticle says their only scenario is to win every state Bush won, plus PA.
Which is where Pennsylvania and its 21 electoral votes come into play. Most polls show McCain trailing by 10 points or more in the state, but one top [McCain] adviser told CNN on Monday, “The election hinges on Pennsylvania. We’ll win Virginia and Nevada in the end, but lose without Pennsylvania.”
I dunno that tehy should be so sure about VA & NV.
I love hearing stories of the simpletons of our society. They can’t form words to express their positions, so instead, they hold up a plunger in the hopes someone will understand what they’re saying.
Bah hahahahahahahaha!
Pathetic.
I did this post last night about how a neocon shot and killed a bear cub and then stapled 2 Obama signs to it’s head:
http://whitenoiseinsanity.word…..-its-head/
And what problem did “marie” the neocon have with my post? She didn’t like my list. She thinks I was way off base and not even close. Uh ha. By the time we were done arguing, I asked her if she was the one who killed the bear cub and stapled the Obama signs to it’s head? I got crickets.
At this point, 16 people could show up to see Barack Obama and it would still beat McCain’s turnouts. Bah hahahahahaha! Poor Johnny.
Don’t know that it was overestimated. I think it depends on if you count the people who were still on line couldn’t get close enough to even see a Jumbotron. They were both “official;” estimates. One from FD & one from PD. I’ll say this 9and I said it at late night lasy=t night) if Obama can get people on the streets of downtown orlando after dark, he can do most anything. it’s normally a ghost town but after the rally there were tons of people around.
I think you can use google earth to measure the size of the area where people gathered and multiply by 7,000 per acre or about 7000 per each 200×200′.
A million people is about 200 acres = 1000′ x 40,000
A city block is 264′ (NYC) so a crowd of a million is 10 blocks wide by 50 blocks
The Washington Mall covers 309 acres from the capital to the Lincoln Memorial. = 2.1MM capacity
[Hands njp a cup of hot tea with lemon and honey (bourbon on the side, if you want to add it) and hot buttered toast with tupelo honey on the side, if you care for it.] Feel better soon!

I saw that last night but not the back-and-forth betyween you and — what’s her name? Marie? never heard of her before. But I had been out in the sun all day and did alot of walking. I’m too old for that shit and I had to get the bed. That was an awful story. Of course our people do similar stuff but the liberal mainstraem media is in the tank for Obama and just never reports it. Right?
But seriously. What’s that tell you when the looneys are all on tehir side. Well, it tells me they’re capable of anything. If Clinton could be impeached for a blow job (is that one word?) just think of what they will do to somebody who “pals around with terrorists” and is “involved in voter fraud.”
Weren’t some of the people getting off the bus wearing the same yellow/orange t-shirts (Firefighter’s College or something like that) as the people waiting to greet her? And she started shaking hands with people wearing those t-shirts. Makes me think she’s carrying her own “local supporters” with her on the bus and that the “local supporters” just got off the bus before the filming started?
Here’s the local story. Doesn’t really capture the enthusiasm tere. It tries, I guess.

Anybody see Joe on Ellen ?
Was Kookie Cokie one of the 15 at the airport? In her official capacity as defender of the status quo, of course.
If the crowd went as far to the left they would have been swimming in the Mississippi. ;-)
Morning. Have you seen the new line of attack. Biden is being quoted as saying that there will be an international crisis manufactured by someone (Putin?) to test Obama’s mettle after he wins.

OT: Is it a known problem that “show text” is working with IE but not with Firefox? Or has this possibly something to do with the way I have Firefox configured? Or to put the question another way: Is “show text” working for any Firefox users? Thanks.
I’m wondering about that. What’s Obama have to gain by that line. Isn’t it the economy, stupid? Doesn’t Joe clear his stuff or is he a loose cannon. Or is this a good thing? Do they want to raise this issue? You know, attack McCain’s only alleged strength?
Let’s be fair to Crazy John. Columbia is full of college students and that is lunch time. They need to eat their lunches first. College is hard work. Also, there are rumors that Joe and Jane College may be tending Democratic.

Glad to do it. I’m still psyched -wghich i guess was the whole idea of the rally, so it was a success. Big time. Going to vote today. I said in earlier posts that the early voting in my county yesterday was more than the entire early voting period in 2004. That’s what we were told yesterday. Don’t know if that’s true. Paper is reporting it as double the first day of 2004. Which may still be more than all of 2004. I dunno. Suffice to say turnout has been huge. Just didn’t want to put somethibng uot as a fact when it may or may not be true.
Citizen bluebutterfly:
It’s a little kiss on the cheek ta Obama and the Democrats…what a clusterfuck tryin’ ta sort ‘em out and get ‘em back to their world that we’ve blown up!
Swim’s up
These men and women are emotionally destroyed for life and the government does not care and does not pay for proper care.
The picture of the vet…the deadness of his eyes is awful. His face is flushed, but his eyes show the emotional/physical disconnect.
I wish these vets could talk to the young people who are seduced into thinking war is good by unscrupulous recruiters.
Why doesn’t someone ask that deranged piece of human filth wtf that slogan is supposed to mean?
Yep. Marie is just another insane neocon who can’t see her own hypocrisy! Last night while I was sleeping she left a comment that we were attacking the messenger. LOL! Uh ha, yeah, okay Marie. Of course, Marie forgot that she was the first one to be attacking the messenger which was me…the person who created the post!
*shaking head* So sick of their crap.
Yep. LOL Isn’t that hysterical? Sen. Susan Collins wants us to believe that bikers follow her everywhere and she’s ‘one of them’, when really, it appears they’re the only ones supporting her and they’re not your typical bikers if you know what I mean. I wonder how much she pays them to follow her around? Huh. I wonder.
Citizen bluebutterfly:
I have spent a long time tryin’ ta sooth the ghosts of kids walkin’ past with eyes as black as the night … they will never be the same and neither will we.
I admire the vets who are speaking out. They need all the encouragement and love that they can get. Wounded souls can recover, though the pain will always be just below the surface.
It is my hope that the truth they are telling will get massive exposure in the MSM when Bush is gone. It is so hidden now by the gatekeepers.
re: what they can do to a guy who “pals around .. etc …”
barak is going to have a full majority of democrats in the house and the senate behind him .. imo ..
what “they can do” is sit down and shut up .. they’ve had their way .. now we’re going to try a new way ..
