I agree. I think Powell was probably the one man who could have stopped the war, by resigning over principle. I don’t know what he actually knew and thought, but he did great damage to himself and the country.

Nevertheless, he could have done more damage by endorsing McCain right now and I am very pleased that he neither did that or remained quiet. At the least, it is some partial redemption.

Powell did a good job of stressing the learning curve and educational process of Obama over the last two years. And I particularly appreciated his equally strong points about the loathsome campaign tactics and attitudes of the Rethug leadership.

Powell’s press conference was great. Both CNN and MSNBC carried it. He talked about the negative campaign that McCain is running with a new talking point a week, Muslim, Ayers, and the new on Socialism. He also spoke about taxation being a responsibility. The press conference was great. Hopefully somebody has a youtube on it.

And let’s not forget Armey’s revelation that Cheney told him privately that it hasn’t been released to avoid panic but Saddam has developed a nuclear weapon that would fit in a suitcase.

a good friend of ours, who happened to be a farmer by trade, and a hunter himself, had one of his Holstein heifers shot dead right next to him at his barn. Wanna talk anger management?

I was riding my gray (= white with age) horse on posted, private property one time. 2 hunters and I all SAW eachother as they headed off at an angle away from us. 5 min. later, as we were heading straight back to the barn, a bullet ricocheted off a tree limb two feet in front of the horse’s nose. Thank heaven at least the horse was well trained. She was terrified, but looked like a dressage pro, doing “piaffe” (fancy trot-in-place) all the way back to the barn on a loose reins. I figured, if we ran flat-out, we were freezer-packing. So I yelled at the numbskulls with the hardware and we pranced back home under control and unharmed.

I turned in and had them cancel my absentee ballot. Told them I wanted to vote at my regular polling place on 4 Nov. Now that they’re using paper ballots here there’s no reason for me to continue to vote absentee. I will trust this system until such time as they show it can no longer be trusted.
