Most people know nothing but vapor about Powell, he has an 80% favorable rating. I hate to say it but knowing the first thing about pols and government puts a person knowing so much more than at least 98% of the country that its sad.

Please try to keep educating people since that is job #1. Also keep in mind in politics you can’t assume people “know” anything, and the “knowing” (both in recall, what are “facts”, and how facts are judged (Ex. some people would love them some nukes dropping in Iraq) changes depending on whose shoes.

Nobody is not going to vote for Obama because Powell endorsed him, some people might vote for Obama because he did (perhaps a few percentage of military families that were flirting with obama but not yet commited).

Also you can endorse someone and still go to jail. You can not endorse someone and remain free.

Powell is well practiced at the art of coverup and he is Never going to come clean.

I commented on his endoresement speech/comments in anothe thread - from the point of view of an event they were as artful and inspiring and Baccus (MD-06) comments were crude and shocking.

…his [C. Powell’s] response to the muslim question was far better than any dem politician has said

That is pretty telling. Perhaps it’s a matter of priorities, or perhaps the righties have Dems acting a bit craven…

Here’s a question. If Bill Ayers can rehabilitate himself, can Colin Powell? And what would it take?

Oh, say, serving as Sec. of Defense for at least Obama’s first term. I think that appointing civilians to that post with no war experience (like Disasta Rumsfeld) has been a real drain on the military.

Glennmcgahee, Powell’s apparently backed off big-time from his opposition to gays serving openly in the military

I also want to remind everyone that FDL writers and readers and the average American aren’t always on the same page. Most Americans still think Powell’s a hero — in fact, my Republican boss came up to me today and said that, as a military man, Powell’s endorsement of Obama made him feel better about the prospect of an Obama presidency.

Colin Powell and Sam Nunn,Obama supporters and advisors, responsible for killing Clinton’s initiative to allow gays and lesbians to serve honorably in the military. Then we have Biden’s “marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman”. Proposition 8 in California? Amendment 2 in Florida? Where’s the Progressives? Obama’s “Gospel Tour”, “Faith Tour”, expanding Bush’s Faith Based Policies. I’m counting on Obama’s AA chrch-going supporters to help us dfend gay rights too. We almost got left out of the DNC’s Party Platform due to Donna Brazille’s decision that gay rights had nothing to do with civil rights. Excuse me?

Well put.
Colin - self-serving -Find his history in Vietnam relating to the MyLai cover up.
It was Republican expediency to pick a tom like character. And he fitted his handlers fare.He has been a quiet yess Massa. YOU can slice it, dice fry it or annihilate it. But that is besides the point. (Condi.shondi or rondi is in a equivalence class). But that is to be expected. If they didn’t they would be at the bottom of the pile. If they didn’t choose to in the begining they would in the end to sustain themselves. So all that unrealism aside they pegged themselves as any breathing red-blooded ( Color irrespective ) organism does to survive: suck the blood of the lay polity very wittingly/knowingly.

But that being said. Other red-blooded appendages of Pale hues do precisely the same- Only with an implicit entitlement.

But DOM- desperate old man Could not resist Trying to polarise the lay polity pointing out to Oshama’s obvious different persona and hoping that he could Reduce his personality subliminally alluding to his Persona-What you see - a black man(by definition in contemporary America- Even it was 1/8, 1/16 in the deep south).

BUT OLDshame did not “calculate” on it backfiring.. Because coming from him IT would not be a Curse BUT a blessing..

And so on and on.

[Even] if Powell had stayed neutral it would have been as good or better for Oshama.
Because any halfway non-nit wit would Implicitly devalue any late-in-coming-Wait-ToSee-Which-Way-The-Wind-Is-Blowing pseudo-support of his.

But in Neutralizing MCshames race-based aspersions, He/Powell was/is Useful.
But With GeorgeWILTED throwing his smug scantimonious self self serving poofta pretensions of his around it made TWO STRKES against MCshames Klan: -One {series of )Strike(outs) by MCShame and his Oldage crisis therapist , And Now Two(second Strike) by GEE.Wilted .

Play On , to call Ball Three…

OShama is Crafty or Clever Enough to Know that The Game is Not Over till it is over..He Beats it into his Bases Heads :remember “New Hamshire”- How the miss was MORE than Mile…And we though We had it “. He is good in setting (lowered)Expectations so His base Moves HARD least they be left eating Crow!.

He Is a BY FAR CLEVER man than MC DOM -Desperate out of touch Man throwing Mud Pies or Cow pie (Borrowed from McShrubs Dried old Ranch.! And They are Sticking to him- Showing him in his true Ahem Color-er-smell.

IN ALL THIS there comes to mind A QUOTE from a president during the Vietnam era(You know who- Twenty Questions? LBJ ) who scared the Jeepers out out the American Public by saying ” If we dont succeed in Vietnam, You would live to rue the day As THEY (The Gunks- Using McShames term for Vietnames) would be in a trice over HERE Bedding your Wives”
{I simply love to see the Possesive/chattle allusion at work. }

That my friends is what THIS FEAR-MONGERING is ABOUT. Just as they took every one as chattel/property -They are VERY VERY concerned about the Reflexive Possibility- Something They Dread ADDED to the feared PROWESS of the Black Man in the bedroom that LBJ refered to- that IRKS them no end..
and perhaps Fear is The Key (as also the lock!)
-FINIS.
