Dave Letterman is my new hero:
For months, I have been wondering when the media would notice that John McCain has a personal relationship with convicted Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy. I assumed Keith Olbermann offered the best shot at bringing this story to the surface, but it turned out David Letterman asked the tough questions, directly to McCain. Tonight, Letterman asked about McCain’s relationship with Liddy.
When McCain conceded the relationship, Letterman pointed out that the same case McCain is making about Obama and Ayers could be made about McCain and Liddy.
Yes, that G. Gordon Liddy:
Liddy served four and a half years in prison in connection with his conviction for his role in the Watergate break-in and the break-in at the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg…. plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention — a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis…
During the 1990s, Liddy reportedly instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents and also reportedly said he had named his shooting targets after Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The best part?
McCain praised Liddy’s "adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great," [and] said he was "proud" of Liddy…
Huh. Just like he’s "proud" of the people who come to his rallies and yell, "Traitor!", "Terrorist!", "Kill him!", and "Off with his head!" when he or Sarah Palin mention Obama’s name? Or the ones who think Obama is a whitey-hating Muslim ni*** who will hand the country over to the blacks if he wins? Or the VA-GOP chair who exhorted canvassers to tell people that Obama and Osama "both have friends who bombed the Pentagon"? I wonder, is he proud of the Chaffey Community Republican Women too? Or the Sacramento County Republican Party?
Funny how John McCain says "proud of" where most Americans would say "appalled by."

About Firedoglake
Hey, Eli. Now to read your post!
Pride is a sin. Don’t forget.
Gordon the plumber was licensed, either.
Can’t get the video – says no longer available
They took the video down already, Eli. Says no longer available. Same thing at EW’s page.
Probably need to get it straight from CBS’ site — if McCain’s people didn’t call and whine that it needed to be pulled altogether.
Such sissies, like messaging Rick Sanchez on CNN to “cut the bullshit”.
Damn Repukes giving terrorists a bad image..McNuts thinks the South was right!
problem eli is the base, the vast majority of the republican party are proud of liddy, hell, I think he even has a popular radio show
What does it say about a society where the comedians are the real journalists and the supposed journalists are merely disengenuous posers?
McShame pals around with lots of unsavories
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/….._1007.html
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Liddy’s work with the Watergate break-in was probably a bit more of a threat to democracy than problematic voter registration cards, whether they are turned in by ACORN or Daryl Issa.
Of course, McCain could still win this. The robo calls will be effective. Bet there will be a nasty surprise/lie about Obama in the last days of the race that cannot be countered due to lack of time. Votes will be stolen. Votes will be caged. Votes will be negated.
Is McCain proud of his supporters attacking his supposed base?

Oh, FFS. It was posted on CBS’s official YouTube account. What losers.

McCain’s welcome to ’em. By pandering to them he’s alienating everyone else.
Excellent question!
Oops maybe this explains why McShame is so enamored with Liddy

We’ve got video up at Silo. Until they take that one down too.
Cowards!
Obama needs to ramp up his end of campaign advertising to levels never seen before and crush Cindy’s little man once and for all.
Even John Mitchell had the good sense to throw Gordon Liddy out of his office when he was AG due to the irrational, radical schemes he would spin!
here is link from Letterman site
Davis is probably busting out the 16-oz can of IOKIYAR Soda and making McCain drink it down to numb the sting of the Pride…
Palin today in NC -
WaPo
How is McCain viewed in AZ these days?
Yes. And even if they can’t steal the Presidency, they will still try to steal the mandate.
ya mean like this ???
my idea of an October Surprise
GOOD on Letterman.
SHAME SHAME SHAME on McInsane.
Why oh why isn’t this all on national media?
Just reporting the facts!!
*sigh*
I hope for even more than that.
Palin also made a point of mentioning that she loved to visit the “pro-America” areas of the country, of which North Carolina is one. No word on which states she views as unpatriotic
Off with California’s head!
Can’t even get the video to run on CBS’ site.
Dollars to donuts that those pussies in the McCain campaign forced CBS’ to take it down.
Even before Obama is sworn in the Republican noise machine will crank it up to high gear to delegitimize a Democratic administration. One way to blunt this is to begin holding Republicans accountable for their crimes that date back to Iran-Contra. If Dems don’t use the hatchet to insure accountability you can bet the Republicans will use it to bludgeon the Demcorats. It time for the America public to be educated on Republican crimes done in their name.
Which part of AZ? You may have heard it’s a big state! My understanding is that the Flagstaff area is largely Rethug territory, but I have a neice in Nau, and she periodically calls home to ask her (formerly Rethug) mother if she’s heard this or that piece of news. The neice is very pro-Obama and anti-McShame! I think many students are.
Maricopa County is over half Rethug, but I think statewide, McShame is likely to win the state. It’s his home state, so no surprises there.
wow
the obama camp can pound on that big time
they’re WATB
Do they still fly the Confederate Flag in North Carolina?
For me here, “That” Letterman show doesn’t air until tomorrow afternoon. I wouldn’t miss it for nuthin.
As far as Liddy goes, there is nothing about about the guy that I find redeeming, except for one thing. Unlike all of the other Watergate Conspiritors, he never whined, complained, found God, or snitched out anyone. He was simply convicted, done his time ( a considerable amount of time) and went on with his business. A real spooky character very much unlike Iran/Contra’s Oliver North. North is simply reviled as “America’s Favorite Traitor.” Liddy is probably just a spook.
Why has the media ignored McShames membership in the US Council for World Freedom Matters as I linked at 15
OT
LOL
Read the caption on this picture
Senator Corruption Trial –ahahaha
Does AIP have a flag?
One of the first things the next Congress should do is re-institute the Fairness Doctrine, and re-examine rules of media ownership.
Pronto.
There should also be a re-examination of the relationship that media has with elected officials, by both government and corporations alike. The fact that we can reasonably suspect a campaign of forcing a media outlet to comply with their demands is an example of the insidious, toxic relationship between political power and media. There’s absolutely NO reason why a government official nor a campaign should be able to tell a media company using our publicly owned airwaves what to show us or tell us.
Not that I’ve seen. The last time I saw the Confederate flag flying was in Portland, ME.
The conservatives here in NC are more the religious fundamentalists than overtly potlitical types. And it’s not just in denominations like the Southern Baptists. The Episcopal church in my hometown was fractured by the ordination of Gene Robinson and now there is an Anglican congregation in my here. Yet this same little hamlet is the favored “bedroom community” for gays who work at a nearby large university.
There is prejudice everywhere — a visit by Palin to one’s area just highlights it.
Oh you bet that’s what’s going to happen. But they’re going to have some trouble making their case when Joe the Plumber and everyone he knows will be standing in line at the soup kitchen and going home to their tent at the local Bushville.
I much prefer the Warren Buffett version of pro-American.
Did Palin have a crowd? Maybe the folks who’ve lost their jobs in the furniture industry in NC can stop by and tell her how much they love Republican outsourcing economics.
Check out the lists on Spotlight – Bet ya can’t find a Investigative Journalist
Maybe the folks who’ve lost their jobs in the furniture industry in NC can stop by and tell her how much they love Republican outsourcing economics.
Republican policies only benefit high-rollers and fake plumbers, apparently.
Thirty percent of NC’s manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last ten years. However, it’s best not to focus on what has happened but how to fix it.
There are a lot of largely unpublicized efforts underway in this state to retrain/reemploy….a real “can do” spirit. Focusing too much on job loss just opens the doors to hearing the words “NAFTA/Clinton”.
I couldn’t get the video link to work either. But I eventually figured out how, and it was worth the search, heh. Dave really made him squirm. Classic!
Go to Youtube website. Then use their search function, typing in mccain, and then letterman, and search thru for the right date.
Or try this:

Be persistent, and you should be able to snag it. ;->
I just tried the link at my #45, and it works. Happy viewing.
Yay Adie
Lovely news at the LA Times:
U.S. policies may have contributed to Iran revolution, study says
Familiar names involved: Rumsfeld, Kissinger, Simon.
They also point out that the current situation in Iran is quite similar to the one in the late 70s.
Or the VA-GOP chair who exhorted canvassers to tell people that Obama and Osama “both have friends who bombed the Pentagon”?
Fringe element. Obama gets ‘em, too, but you’ve never seen that in the mainstream media. And the things they say make John McCain sad. John McCain always condemns them. I mean, he took a microphoe away from an ignorant ladt at one of his rallies. What more do you want from the guy? To stop saying the things that get all these people foaming at the mouth?
