Meanwhile, three thoughts…but one picture (WTF?).
1. McCain started out this campaign with two bases, the enabling media and political independents who thought he wasn’t beholden to GOP orthodoxies. The debates have shown that while he has managed to keep a tenuous hold on the punditry, he’s lost the political independents. When you keep David Broder at the cost of millions of votes, you’re doing it wrong.
2. How do you get an hour and a half of free air time to sell yourself as a great human being with a gracious opponent and manage to walk away even less well liked? You’re doing it wrong.
3. Congratulations to Philadelphia, not only are you the Motown of Progressive Blogging, you are the National League Champs. And when you send your unpopular VP choice out in front of Philadelphians at a sporting event, you’re doing it wrong.
Bonus non-debate related thought…

It looks like $700,000,000,000.00 will only buy so much confidence in the marketplace.
Per Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com:
Emphasis mine.
Suppose no one recalls ol’ Poor Richard and his almanac which enshrined a saying: “A Fool and His Money Are Soon Parted”; such is the state of education.
An addendum: A Foolish Congress and the Public Purse Are Soon Departed.
away as well
Per Sam Stein at HuffPo:
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Cohen this morning, Kristof is off. Gail Collins watched “Three Guys and a Table” last night, and she says that in the third and final presidential debate, John McCain could not stop talking to Joe the Plumber through the TV screen. By next week, she expects Joe will have his own TV show. (As an aside, Joe was mentioned on NPR this morning. He admits that he would not face a tax increase under Obama’s plan, but he’s afraid the income ceiling might be lowered…) Mr. Cohen writes about “Presley, Palin and the Heartland.” He says the can-do, honest, spend-what-you-earn civility of the heartland — once at the heart of Republican values — has been usurped into Sarah Palin’s trash talk.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. I stayed up waaaay too late last night watching post-debate wrap ups, so I’m brain dead this morning. Have a great day.
If Senator McCain ever had a chance at winning the election, he lost it by brushing off women’s health dangers and dilemas in difficult pregnancies. The most mysogenistic comment that I have ever seen made by any candidate.
Sadly,
Heather
Morning all!!
And a great morning it is!
I thought the best part of the debate was the question about the supreme court.
I liked Obama’s answer about Roe V wade, but I also liked when he talked about Ledbetter and the supreme court being the last safeguard of our rights
I can’t wait to see the make-up of SCOTUS changed to something a little more center
Thanks for the link Marion!!
Guess no one but us east coasters are up yet!!
CBS Marketwatch has a synopsis of the debate. I found this paragraph interesting.
Obama remained cool and calm while McCain was the Tasmanian Devil, spinning faster and faster as the night wore on until his arguments became a blur. By the end of the debate, McCain was muttering to himself.
Also Joe is going to be on Good Morning America.
Astonishing, but that picture, even tops this . And if Johnzilla had caught Barack, would he have given him one of these?
What I would like Obama to do today is highlight women’s health care. He also might mention that most people can’t afford to have Joe the Plumber to fix their pipes.
Joe’s on GMA and doesn’t believe in progressive taxation. Obama’s plan promotes socialistic. No endorsements, though.
There are a few other early birds out there, I think! I’m off to slave in the salt mines.
Have fun I’ll, be heading there soon!!
Have a good day Marion.
Buenos diddly dias, pups!
I found it interesting how the CNN women’s “insta-voter meter” line would soar when Obama talked and *instantly* flatten out when McCain spoke.
My other thought: Obama’s a natural in front of the camera. McCain not so much.
I don’t understand how a senator nor a wealthy women have satalite phones
ps
I’ve been trying to do an oxydown but the page says “you must tag your post”
I’ve searched everywhere to see how to do this but cannot find it
Typical cowardly McCain – Hiding behind a woman again.
… regarding the Ayers Smears against Obama …
Sen. Clinton asked you to explain your relationship with Ayers
(not me- I’m not worried about a washed up radical)
COWARD, COWARD, COWARD!
when you live in a “society” there MUST be socialism
the perjurative meaning of the word is NOT what obama is promoting, anyone can buy services outside of the program, that makes it capitolistic not socialistic
things that are pure socialism;
money
court
law
ownership
roads
water to your house
the police
the fire dept
There is a little box at the bottom where you can put a key word or two. If you want to be snarky, you could even just type in “tag” and then you’re done.
Joe the Plumber could get rich if he gets the exclusive contract to service all John McCain’s homes.
Do you see Title then something else then Body below that is the tag write economy if the post is about the Economy, end the war if its about ending the war etc
Thanks for the link to the McZilla photo, Attaturk. I’ll bet we’re going to see that photo a lot in the next three weeks. Tee hee. (Why is he going after Obama’s butt? That’s just wrong!)
Joe is going to get a show on Fox!
Nite All Perris I hope your Diary works out you always have good comments.
I think McCain had something stronger than a triple expresso. ok nite!
the congress has not been “foolish” with our money, they have outright stolen it
they took our assets, the funds needed to maintain our infrastructure, our education system, our retirement
and they gave those assets to the wealthiest people on the planet
people who think once they make a certain amount of money they should be allowed to opt out of the system that gave them their wealth in the first place
people who think there should be the wealthy and then everyone elsee
Morning everyone. Feeling pretty good this morning. McC intended for his “I’m not Bush” to be the line of the night. Then he blew off woman’s health….oops.
aha!
so at the bottom I have to put in what the post is about!
got it, will give that a go
Bob Schieffer did the best moderator job of the debates.
Like an elite sports referee who runs the game without making himself a part of the game.
Good work, Bob.
I missed McC walking off the stage last night, leaving Cindy alone. Hope a clip turns up. That sort of thing resonates.
Was it just me, or was McCain’s explanation of his healthcare plan …
Congratulations Joe, you’re rich!
Huh? How could he divert the topic like that?
Good morning everyone! I had a blast reading the comments from the Debate threads from last night. Hysterical. Isn’t it hysterical how the right wing blowhards, such as Buchanan, are still clinging to the notion that McCrazy kicks ass? I love it!
McCrazy should be ashamed of himself. I only watched half the debate before falling asleep and all I saw was an angry ole hypocritical man. I loved it when he was talking about what his supporters were saying in the audience of his rallies and how wonderful they all were and then he proceeds to bring up Ayers/Acorn in an angry way acting & implying Barack really is a bomb wearing terrorist!
Viewers weren’t impressed with McCain at all and the blowhards know it.
MY LATEST COMPLAINT: I wished Joe Scarborough’s show in the morning WOULD STOP PLAYING BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SONGS AS IF THEY ARE A REFLECTION OF THE LEFT WING OF THIS COUNTRY! Stop it assholes! You don’t deserve to be playing that man’s songs for crying out loud!
McCain started “strong” then started sputtering. By the end, he was running on fumes. Groping for what to say. Disjointed when he did. Tossing in little talking points whether they fit or not.
Sputtering on fumes. Kinda sums up his campaign. And the Bush Administration.
yayyy!!!
got it
Regulations; What industry does not want you to know
I’ve been trying to figure out that “you must tag your post” thingy for a WEEK
According to Johnny, everyone making $5,000,000 or less is rich. Of course, only making $5,000,000/year makes Johnny & Cindy laugh their asses off! Yep, they’ll say in private, “Did you see that asshole at the country club today driving a $120,000 hummer? Oh please! He’s freaking poor for crying out loud! So laughable!”.
Spit.
Can you imagine how Johnny really feels about Joe the Plumber? He and Cindy must have spent hours already laughing at Joe behind his back! Guaranteed!
Setting out a virtual cuppa Caribou for Barbara this morning, and warm hugs for Barbara and her David.
Google “sundown syndrome”. Classic sign of dementia.
I loved, loved, loved how Barack brought up the fact that Annenberg and many who have worked with Ayers ARE REPUBLICAN. Slam dunk!
OT… stocks
Shares/stocks are meant to represent a small share of ownership in a corporation. If a corporation issues 10,000 shares each one represents 1/10,000 ownership. To raise money corporations sell their shares.. ie take in partners. Once they are out, they can be “traded”. The value of the stocks/shares is supposed to represent the value of the corporation, but what they really represent is some artifiial / perceived value which moves from day to day depending on “news”.
Why are people “investing” there retirement in these idiotic casino “chips”? Chips are issued by corporations which are unethical, and not acting in the interest of the people and rarely in the interest of shareholders. It’s a massive kabuki.
What is going on with Barbara & David by the way? I seem to have missed what is happening between them! *blushing*
After a long illness David died. I’ll try to find Barbara’s post yesterday for you.
OMG, I am so sorry! I honestly didn’t catch what was going on with them. How terrible. (((((HUGGING BARBARA WITH ALL MY STRENGTH)))))
This is from Barbara, It’s from yesterdays Blue Texan update..
Good morning, my wonderful FDL friends. I want you to know — need you to know — that my kind and gentle David died yesterday afternoon. If I keep writing the words and living them, it will eventually sink in or fly out and be real. The last couple of weeks were beyond painful, by every definition. But here’s the thing. The cancer is dead and somewhere, somehow that I may not ever fully understand, David has ultimately won. Please keep us, keep me in your hearts. I am going to need you more than ever before once I can get back here more often. Just . . . doing what you do, what we do together. Blessings on this healing site fer sure.
There is nothing LESS authentic than a person on the public dole his entire life, who practiced adultery to make himself rich, to give aid and assistance to someone who has supported himself his entire adult life.
McCain’s a free-loading, erratic coward.
Here comes the attack on “tax havens”
It appears the New World Banking / Fascism Cabal is going to gain control over every country, person, and bank account.
None of this is accidental…none of it.
In the aftermath, America will be thrown overboard. It’s a full-fledged banksta heist. All they want is every last penny and total control of the planet. Follow the money to the individuals at the top of the pyramid depicted on the currency in your wallet.
Mornin’ All,
ralphbon, was just headed there myself :D
oh yes, by all means . . .
Compare and Contrast
The last man standing will be gold
(((QuakerGirl, Barbara,David)))
A quick point.
First, anyone you see on tv regularly makes more than $250,000/yr., so they are going to be horrified (because of course they would have to cut back on $5 buck lattes) by Obama’s tax increase for those who make more than that.
Fortunately, the 95% of people who make less than that aren’t fooled by the talking heads.
I am so sad about this. Barbara definitely needs us all right now!
This is painful news… We’ll need to do what we can.
I did not know of David’s passing. Was keeping cybervigil with Barbara because she had mentioned hospice coming in for David.
Dear Barbara, when/if you read this, know that your FDL family all keep you close in our hearts and thoughts.
Yes, I thought of QuakerGirl the other day as well.
