O!
Okay, Obama is definitely funnier than Bush looking for WMDs under his desk.
Definitely some good zingers in there!
I’m still kind of in shock from seeing a post from Ian that’s not about the coming economic apocalypse. Well, at least not directly about it.
And he looks pretty spiffy in that Tux….
Tampa Bays tacks on 2 more (Upton double off the green monster). Rays leading RedSox 7-0 in the 7th.
Hi Ian, OT but I posted this in my diary and can’t count on you reading it there:
Curses, Canada! (For Ian Welsh)
“Heather Mallick: I’m so embarrassed: we’ve just re-elected a PM who wants to recreate Bushworld – eight years after it went out of fashion”
Thanks Ian. Evening pups.
OK, when do we get a presidential debate with Jon Stewart, David Letterman, and Jay Leno as the panel of questioners?
Believe it or not, McCain wasn’t bad either. Saw some clips on Rachel. His laugh goes perfectly with this kind of setting.
Notice how Obama is working on improving ties with McCain for after the inauguration. Really smart. Amazing what thinking ahead does.
Hey – that’s still 3 rich White guys. So yeah, it could happen!
Spiffy and sexy, calm, cool and collected and clearly having a great night despite having to suffer seating so close to McInsane. Who was that ancient old rascal who was chewing on something throughout Obama’s frisky and oh so highy charged speech. So weird and distracting I actually felt some pity for the ancient old clueless goat.
But nothing can beat Barack’s smile and little chuckle. He has such class…and brains.
I don’t know. McCain looked pretty uncomfortable. Some of the zingers were pretty sharp.
Especially the one about knowing the original Al Smith. Obama is funny and has a great speech writer.
Amy Poehler and Robin Williams (in drag) could do the VP debate.
(Queen Latifah did a great Gwen Ifill on SNL!)
Thanks for the link!
McCain was doing well. and it will give the rib lickers persmission to bury him respectfully
as WaPo just did
So glad I can share my fine Senator from Arizona with the rest of America…… not fair to keep all that fun to ourselves….

“so tonight I’m going to talk about the economy” was my favorite. And then he did. Didn’t see Mc’s ending, so don’t know if he too got serious.
Pretty damn funny! I loved the “I was not born in a manger” thing and “My real middle name is STEVE.”
he ended with a genuinely moving tribute to obama. i thought i’d entered bizarro-world.
Digg it now!
repiglicans would find an arab named steve to compare him to
Interesting. My impression is that if McCain had run his campaign the way he was tonight, Obama would be fighting for his life.
At first I thought that it was a rerun from some other universe.
I am glad McCain showed his nice side tonight. It makes me feel better. He didn’t seem conflicted.
Thanks for that….I bet there will be lots of copiers. Can’t wait.
He still would have had (not limited to) the following to contend with:
•A VP pick (presumably not Ni)
•The Economy™ that ties him to the tracks, no matter the tenor of his campaign
•The Occupation
•George Walker Bush
Yes, but even given all that, he’s still surprisingly close. And if Mc were the person for all the campaign that he was tonight, he might not have picked Palin.
Don’t want to go down the counterfactual road too far. Just commenting that the worst thing about Mc’s terrible campaign has been his demeanor.
And thanks to IL for sharing their fine Senator with the rest of us!
Damn, does he rock the sunglasses!
And looks better in white tie than almost anyone I’ve ever seen.
oooh! thank you for the eye candy!
I’m watching the rerun of Rachel……. McCain sure looks like he is not getting enough hair transplants fast enough to combat the hair loss…….. just going through this campaign has taken a toll…..
I’ll watch it as soon as baseball is over.
Since we’re talking about men’s appearances, I noticed during the hearings today that Dodd has stopped tinting his eyebrows. A couple of weeks ago, he looked like a circus clown: his shock of white hair, bright black eyebrows, bright red spots on his cheeks. Today his eyebrows were salt n pepper. A vast improvement.
I have to say I’ve never bought the “surprisingly close” thing for one minute. We’re talking about a Black candidate, relatively new on the national scene, with an African born father and a very Muslim-sounding name – a name that’s easily conflated with public enemy #1 Osama, and a middle name identical with public enemy #2 – Saddam Hussein.
So you have that guy going against a long time veteran White senator, considered by most to be 1. A war hero 2. a Maverick (another kind of hero) 3. liked and respected by both parties 4. loved by the media, which he once called “his base”.
I don’t care how bad things are economically and in Iraq. This media meme that Obama can’t “close the deal” (in the primaries) and that it’s “surprisingly close” now is and always has been ass backwards, and a deliberate way of keeping the questions and doubts on Obama. It’s horsesh#t.
Damn! Did anybody run that one by Fred Hiatt? He’s going to lose his dentures when he opens his paper in the morning.
Fair enough. So add a McNice to the mix instead of McNasty, and where does it come out? That was my only point.
Thanks, but no thanks. Ya’ll can just keep him all to yourselves (preferably locked in a basement closet).
Your very welcome! Someone astute threw it up on Kos thread, and so I thought I’d share the love!
I’ve got both Keith and Rachel recorded, will watch later. Boston trying to make a game of it. Tampa Bay leading 7-4 in the top of the 8th.
watertiger upstairs
Can you say, “but he’s a *black* man?”
You betcha! Um, I mean, got it!
(You know, it’s kind of sad that Palin’s ruined a perfected good phrase for everybody).
Today’s Mr. McNice – yeah. Someone could, and probably is, writing a book about how thoroughly McCain sold his soul for this run in ‘08.
To quote the Dixie Chicks, “I Ain’t Ready to Make Nice.”
In my humble opinion, McCain’s soul has always been for sale to the highest bidder.
OMG! Were his lines written by Colbert and Stewart’s crowd? There were some terribly funny but very potent zingers in there! Glad I could see these clips. Thanks, Ian.
You ain’t never lied.
But of course what I’m referring to is the EPIC leap over the cliff he took when he chose to kiss W’s ass to preserve a run in ‘08 even after Rove and Co. threw his (McCain’s) entire family under the bus, backed the bus back over his family, and then ran over them again. That’s a whole ‘nother level of soul-selling.
But yeah, McCain’s been a sold-out co*ksucker from day one.
The line about Giuliani had me laughing out loud. If Rudy was there, I’m not sure he was laughing.
Boston did some runs in o8
With Barack so far a head of McCain at least Bush and Shooter know they can’t steal the election because WE know he’s ahead.
My kid said the kids at school like the name Barack. Maybe it the ba”rock” sound in it. Mostly white school and Barack is popular there.
I smell Colbert!
Funny you should mention that, Sunshine. Recently I’ve been thinking that there’s probably going to be a “run” on the name Barack in the near future. It would be nice if kids of many ethnic backgrounds were named after Obama, as that would be most fitting.
Let’s hope Barack wins, and that he’s as great as this country truly needs him to be. It can only happen if we progressive do our jobs and keep pushing toward a much more sane and sensible future. Huzzah!
