While the wingnut hysteria campaign continues regarding ACORN, it’s worth a visual reminder — again — that John McCain stood shoulder to shoulder with them when he thought he could use them for his own benefit.  The YouTube at right is McCain at a Miami rally in 2006, co-sponsored by ACORN sent to Mark Ambinder by a reader.

Cozy, isn’t it?

What is the deliberately manufactured hoo haw about?  Calling McCain’s loss into question…any way they can.  It’s about gaming for 2012 at this point, and undermining Obama any way they can by delegitimizing his recent successes.  Welcome to GOP Voter Fraud Kabuki Theater 2008.

Here’s my advice: vote early if you can, vote on paper, and then help keep tabs on voting problems in your area.

CredoMobile and NOI have put together a handy voting tool that helps find early voting information, poll locations, and other great info. The single most asked question every year is "where do I vote?" — this helps you find your answers.

Don’t forget the great resources available through ElectionProtection – their hotline number is 1-866-OUR-VOTE — and the Brennan Center

With the nonstop hysteria generated by Fox and Lou Dobbs about ACORN, it’s worth pointing out that voter registrations are up all over the country this year — and a vast majority of those favor Democrats.  Nate Silver has some recent breakdown on NC, with a link to a GMU study showing that more than 49% of new registrations in OH are in the 18 to 29 age bracket.   Good news considering the difficulties college students sometimes have in registering.

New voters are a good thing.  Especially if they not only become active this cycle, but remain active in their communities and in national politics for years to come.  Fraud is absolutely a bad thing — but manufacturing a controversy for your own political gain?  Or trying to purge existing voters because they might favor the other side — or putting out flyers to mislead voters into thinking they would be arrested if they showed up to exercise their voting franchise?

That’s just craptastic.  Exercise your right to vote — and help others do the same.
