While certain print-media folk such as Joe Klein have started refusing to pass on Republican talking points as news, most corporate media outlets, especially radio and TV ones, are still chugging the RNC’s Kool-Aid. Case in point: Their enabling of Republican efforts to turn the activist group ACORN into the latest Evil Democratic Demon of this year’s election cycle.
I woke up this morning to the sight of CNN and CBS’ morning shows competing to see who could show the most GOP-friendly coverage of the politically-motivated Ohio suit against ACORN. Meanwhile, I have yet to find a single Corporate Media report on TV mentioning either that:
a) ACORN must by law turn in all signed registration forms to the local registrars even if they know they can’t be for real (they try to point out to the local folk any bad forms they see)
b) John McCain, right up until this election cycle, wuuuuuved him some ACORN. So have many other Republicans.
Another thing you won’t find mentioned much, if at all, in the media outlets most Americans see (thanks to Mr. Sponge of The Cucking Stool)
If this were such a big problem, the Justice Department would have scores of prosecuted cases (especially considering the fact that the Bush Administration has made this a goal of DOJ)…yet, there are zero. Remember, this is the issue at the heart of why some USAs were fired by the Bush White House. They couldn’t find anything.
But you’ll never see Katie Couric or Brian Williams mention any of this in prime time.
This is why I call them the GOP/Media Complex, gang.

CNN “special investigative unit” did a read hatchet job on ACORN. Didn’t put anything in perspective, like what the normal % of bogus registrations is. Talked to someone who claimed they paid be the signature. Only ACORN rep who they talked to was some poor womand in Chicago (I think) who had no idea how to do press interviews. OTOH, MSNBC had a rep of ACORN on who was very effective.
Enjoyed CBS’s infomercial for John McSame this evening. Corporate media, reporting to insure the status quo.
I’ve no data, but my guess would be hypersensitivity to the charges, and fear of being tarred with the brush of “cover-up.”

It shows how their loan guarantees increased since 2000, not their subprime lending. With the decline in the housing market, these guarantees were what put them in a bind.
i wish the various reports would include how the topic came to their attention and why they decided to pursue it.

In Nevada, ACORN claimed that state authorities never even looked at the flagged registrations that they turned in before their offices were raided.
What is interesting about this coverage is that the big story is, as it always is, voter suppression but the networks play up voter fraud even though this problem is microscopic.
I detest the rich corporate media talking heads more than I detest Republicans. Republicans are just being themselves. Rich talking heads want the public to think they are “neutral” when their wealth would suggest otherwise.

Nevada…isn’t that a Republican state? It wouldn’t surprise me at all, for a Bush appointee, who survived by being a “loyal Bushie”, to sign a no-knock search warrant and send in a SWAT team to toss ACORN’s office…but it would surprise me from a Democrat, at least this early.
IMHO Karl Rove’s wet dream of a permanent Republican majority is still a distinct possibility. All it will take is for the Republicans to steal another election (would they really do that?) and an entire generation will be so turned off to politics that they will never vote again.

Look at the number of comments on some of the Klein blogposts since he created his New Rules that he’s not going to carry water for the campaigns. They’ve gone up. I don’t know about their web clicks, but those may very well also be on the upswing.
Look at Limbaugh’s numbers… they’re falling… and they’re not even in the most profitable demographic. There’s an audience for being spoon fed, but it’s dwindling.
CBS and NBC do partisan dirty-work at their peril. So do most other news outlets, as they’ve all very sadly come to recognize.
Look at all the b.s. Annual Reports that looked spiffy, and yet veiled mountains of irresponsible, leveraged hogwash. Look at all the pseudo ‘Climate Concern’ outfits that put out b.s. pseudo-science claiming that there was no scientific basis for global warming. What’s the value of those fraudulent reports now? Nada.
The value of ACCURATE information is rising; part of that value derives from not wasting people’s time with vaccuous b.s.

This point about ACORN being required by law to turn in everything they get, even if they know it’s fake, seems to be the talking point to rebut this stuff.
Meanwhile, the Alaska Independence Party story was featured on CNN today. FDLer (former??) Dave Neiwert was the guest. The very strong and long ties the Repub ticket has to this radical America-hating group would seem to be a blockbuster story. Much more so than this exact same ACORN or similar group story that Repubs and Pox bring up EVERY SINGLE election.
