Paul Krugman of Princeton was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics.
Let’s hope someone in the government is listening to what he has to say. It’s not too late.
May I say "Bush Critic Krugman Wins 2008 Nobel for Economics" is a wonderful headline. Talk about getting the most important information out there first.
Next post up will have some ideas for the bailout. Later today we’ve got action items for Congress. Great start to a busy day!

This is simply terrific!!
Wow, I’ve always had a lot of respect for Krugman, but I had no idea he was even up for this prestigious honor.
That’s wonderful!
What wonderful news to wake up to!
I expect Dubbya will invite him to the White Hosue for a confab, and if he does I hope Krugman declines on moral grounds — not wishing to aide an abet a war crimnal and his henchman.
Meanwhile. . .
L.A. Times FINALLY gets around to writing about the gay priest who outed himself and attacked Prop 8. Needless to say he’s up shit creek.
Heh – Egreg — it would also require that they know how to read. I’m waiting for “Our Financial System Through The Eyes of My Pet Goat.”
I just woke up and turned the computer on. Saw this news at MSN, my home page and came directly here to see if you had it, and there it is!
YAAAAY!!!
Hoping that Obama wins, I wonder if this puts him on the short list for Treasury Secretary?
Paulson and Bernanke allowed us to get into this disaster, no reason to trust them to handle the recovery.
Thanks egregious.
digg
Well I think Krugman as Treasury Secretary would be an excellent idea — and probably more likely than my pick of Ralph Nader as Attorney General. ;-)
Nobel intituted five prizes: Peace, Medecine, Littterature, Chemistry, and my personal favorite, Physics.
This Nobel in economics was instituted and paid , in the memory of Nobel, by the Bank of Sweden, in the late sixties.
Here’s the real title to this prize, but it would make for an awful post title: The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
Kudos to Krugman.
I like that idea
Wasn’t there some sort of a rift between Obama and Krugman early on? Seems like Krugman made some not so complimentary comments about Obama during the primary. I thought Krugman was a Hillary supporter? Can anyone refresh my memory?
a little more background from Bloomberg:
The Princeton economist was honored for theories that help explain why world trade is dominated by countries that both import and export similar products, automobiles, for example.
“
“Trade theory was stuck in a rut 25 years ago and Krugman was the creative thinker who brought new ideas to it,” said Tony Venables, a professor at the University of Oxford who wrote a book with Krugman. “His work had a profound effect on what we know about international economics. Trade economics needed an analytical breakthrough as people were relying on old-fashioned models until he took them on.”
and dear god, could he be more adorable ?
. . .ah the self-effacing wonky hotness !
I know Krugman was a Hillary supporter, but then again so was Hillary and she’s behind Obama now.
I saw the news here first! Wonderful! Mazel tov, Paul!!!
Professor Krugman endorsed HRC’s healthcare plan over BO’s
…Senator Obama’s campaign has since said it will continue to tweak and modify it’s plan more along HRC lines
From The Guardian:
Paul didn’t like Obama’s health plan, iirc
True, he preferred Hillary’s, which I like better also. Hopefully, this will be a boost to Hillary-Care.
Personally I think both plans suck — I’m a single-payer guy myself.
No Shiite
i used to send him E-CANDY GRAMMS….because he was so FREAKIN brave to denounce the Shrub …early on…when i met him at the first Escacon,he said,ya shoulda sent em to Princeton, not the NYT i would have gotten them sooner…
hahahahahahahaha
‘g
‘….good on him
ya know i woke up a little sad this am,but im feeling much better now
Congrats to Mr. Krugman.
When Milton Friedman won, did the headline writers refer to him as “Pinochet Pal Milton Friedman”?
I had the pleasure of meeting Krugman at the Democratic Convention and chatting with him about economics for a few minutes.
So was this a shout-out at Bush-Cheney-Bernanke-Paulson?
It’s not like the Nobel committees aren’t above making political statements…
Right on. Hillary’s plan called for “mandates” which is really disturbing to me. Forcing us to participate in a broken system is not a good idea, and would be a boon to the Insurance companies and allows people like Hillary to say she’s bringing “universal” healthcare – by force! I saw Obama respond to a question about this a long time ago, and he hinted that he personally would like to see a single-payer system, where you can chose to use it or not like in Canada, but feels we need to take steps in that direction first, and that’s what his plan is, albeit a baby step. Neither are that exciting but at least my family, which practices mostly natural and preventative remedies, wouldn’t be forced to join the corrupt Medical Industrial Complex.
This is really wonderful news for the world.
Congratulations to Paul Krugman.
I still believe Robert Reich is in the same league as Krugman, perhaps ahead in points by reason of Reich’s experience and ability to express the complex simply.
Excellent Europeans are sending a strong message…it is world market not a Bush crony market G7 made a strong statement.
This prize is wonderful and well-deserved. Paul Krugman frequently makes the dismal science not so obscure and, therefore, not so foreboding.
My homepage is BBC, and they have a really hot photo of him! http://www.bbc.co.uk/?ok
