Once again, the McPalin campaign ended the week back on its heels as it tried to deflect the latest accusations of hatemongering and general cluelessness about the economic meltdown.

Any other Presidential campaign would take the weekend to regroup and get back on message (assuming the fevered, Nuremberg-esque Palin rallies weren’t orchestrated to foment the racist vitriol). But the McPalin campaign has proven that it’s not like any other campaign — it has become a caricature of itself. The start of the new week was just another day for John McCain (R-Confused):

On Friday the Arizona Republican sought to calm down the vitriol emanating from his crowds, facing down a few supporters who criticized Barack Obama. Then, on Saturday, his campaign leaked word to Politico that he would be introducing a bold new economic agenda on Monday.

Late Sunday evening word emerged from McCain headquarters that, in fact, there would be no bold new economic proposal to throw on the table.

Oops. Either the economy is sound, or it’s dead in the conservatory.

And then there’s the whole "let’s link an 8 year-old Obama to the sins of Bill Ayers" balloon the campaign insists on trying to float, despite the lack of any discernible traction:

Asked about the anger at his rallies — something that has increased since the McCain campaign started highlighting Obama’s ties to 1960s radical Bill Ayers, McCain said he was insulted by some characterizations of his supporters.

Um…you’re not very good at the nondenial denials, John.

Seriously, my friend. With 22 days left, why don’t you guys just pick one position and augur your campaign into the ground? Hari kiri would be much more "honorable" than this graceless and, quite frankly, embarrassing flailing about.
