thanks elliot!
damn. i’m going to have to watch abc.
Sorry about the long link below:
It is this type of media, hate radio (this from WTKK - Boston) that is stirring up the Republican crowds.
WTKK is a Republican station. It has worked 24/7 since it began about ten years ago to elect George Bush and Mitt Romney.
http://wtkk.everyzing.com/view.....atch=QUERY
Morning, no need to apologize for the long link; but that dude should apologize to Barack Hussein Obama, that’s just ugly.
This week, I’m most interested in the 60 Minutes segment:
McCain looked a tad shaken when the lady in crowd talked about Barack being an Arab. Josh at TPM has a video of her answering questions after the rally. I’m not sure that the can of worms they opened can be closed. I’m going to watch the morning shows just to see if the Repubs tone down their talk.
wow. what a lying hate-monger. call letters should be wkkk. i feel sick.
Thanks Elliot,
When John Lewis likened John McCain’s politics to George Wallace’s - and warned of the dangerous territory we are in because of it - I have to add hate radio.
It creates the daily pot of hatesoup that John and Sarah are stirring and serving.
WTKK should apologize.
selise,
That’s brilliant.
It’s time for us to stand up and push these veil hatemongers off the main stage.
that would be VILE hatemongers
BIll Adair on CSPAN this morning is knocking down the email chian rumors. He’s from PolitiFact.org
Ah, the yellow straw haired woman. Dial-up so no vids but think TV did show that clip of her once still claiming he was an Arab and adding another stupidity to it as well. It’s pretty disgusting how corporate media just went ape-shit ga-ga at his feeble tampdown and practically [insert unprintable wording] themselves welcoming the “old” mccain back. BFD! :-(((
And spit, on top of that!
In GA we have early voting and I’m going to take advantage of voting early. With all the whackos in the hills here, who knows what will happen on election day. I’m sure the FBI and Homeland Security are very busy. John Lewis was accurate when he said “Wallace never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed. . . . “
Checked out that site briefly and think it might be worthy of return viewing. CNN is doing their usually miserable job of their so-called fact checking.
Would that be John McShame’s advisor John Lewis./s
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk.....mccain.php
The McShame gang has got to be the biggest joke ever perpetrated.
On the video Dana Bash corrected her when she claimed that Barack was a muslim. Bash said he’s not, he’s a Christian. Good for her.
Let us know what Cokie whines about today. She just can’t help it.
On Matthews, the panel talks about how damaging to the race/winning the attacks of McCain/Palin have been; especially the “mud” turns off women votes, but also most voters don’t like it. That was the conclusion there + Iglesias adds McCain not only loses, he loses his soul as well. Lots of agreement.
Here’s a Sarah Palin graph from lolgraphs
Given the fact that woman didn’t believe mcpalin, I have serious doubts that she’s gonna take bash’s word for it either……but you’re right, it *is* unusual for one of the so-called reporters to take something that could be defined as a “stance” for truth. A back pat when it’s called for.
Somebody on Washington Journal ranting on and on about the importance of Obama’s “associations” and how *critical* they are. GAG! Is “associations” gonna become the new “dems kill babies”. Now here’s another one whining about how unfair Washington Journal has become and how awful Adair from Politifacts is.
It never ceases to amaze me how brainwashed some of the callers are considering how closed their minds are.
What is really scary is the last one I mentioned who kept spouting off her version of “facts” with such a degree of specificity. It’s ones like her who really reinforce the brainwashed, no-information listeners who think, “Wow! She really knows her stuff…….and she agrees with littl’ ol’ me.” The thug callers seem to go to either of the two extremes with few in the middle.
Good Morning Elliot and Firedogs,
In blustering about their efficiency, ease of use ( a 19 year old class 3 felon can do it !) Kapaln says $600 million for 17 units - and it is unclear whether he’s speaking of individual units or a contract for 17 different types -
doesn’t much matter to the 1700 dead iraqis killed in the Spring’s offensive - but I do want everyone to keep in mind - there continues to be anecdotal reporting from Marine families that their loved ones routinely ran out of rations in Sadr City
These shows are worthless. The range of discussion swings between extreme right wing and centerist. Left of center? Forget about it.
Should be Queen Isabella’s Day..she paid for it.
Another lying caller, “I’m a Democrat but I’m voting Republican.” And another one claiming the wait to get through was hours , balderdash. Sounds like an organized Call-In to me.
And who’s Commander-Iin-Chief?
I rest my case.
It is so hard for me to stop thinking about what could have been, if the neo-cons hadn’t gotten their War of Aggression against Iraq.
S’truth, that. I listen to Washington Journal to hear the progressive/non-partisan speakers who don’t make it onto the 24/7 news channels but with the majority of callers this morning, the clicker has been close to hand. :-(
Zogby thinks as many as 33% will have voted *before* November 4……betcha more of them are Dems.

How could anyone be undecided?
Columbus’s claim to fame is that he was the last person to discover America.
Last night I was phone banking at the O headquarters and had several people who remained undecided. One was a guy who was afraid that O would push laws to strip him of his guns and I tried to alay his fears the other was a lady (68) who was leaning O but wanted to see the last debate. There were still others who are actively pursuing data on the latest McShame allegations.
And he hired the best PR firms
I’m trying to watch fox news sunday. In reference to Lewis, Davis just brought up that John McCain’s civil rights were taken away from him. He was a POW. Unfortunately, Davis is not backing away from Palin’s statements at all. I’m very disappointed.
Good morning all. Went out last night to a casino for dinner and some gambling. Wore my Obama pin. Almost no reaction except one guy and one lady (separately) approached me to ask where I got it. The big talk, of course, is everyone’s 401K.
Hanity has an hour long hatchet job on Obama scheduled for this evening.
I came across this interesting video on Columbus Day, the Canary Effect
ooo your experiences would make an interesting Oxdown Diary
Deep thought:
Is Condi now the most competent member of Bush’s cabinet?
Uhhh……Davis isn’t listed for fox today………is that teh davis (R)? If so, you actually expected something approaching sanity? We just gotta convert you to the reality-based community, darlin’. *g*
Did you see Jon Stewart’s take on the undecideds.
Something like:
‘20% of the undecideds are attention-seekers, 30% are (blah, blah, blah) and 50% are terminally stupid….and those folks will decide the election’
Wallace lets Davis speak while Axelrod is trying to answer a question. FOX TV is very hard to watch. Wallace needs to tell Davis to shut up. It’s disappointing that the repubs haven’t toned it down. John Lewis’s comments were correct.
How could anyone be undecided?
Hey, how ya gonna get hooked up to one of those squiggly-line makers at CNN unless you confess to being so totally clueless that you’re still undecided?
mornin’ all.
No, history will show there have been NO competent members of the bush cabinet.
SATSQ
eCahn, Do you think that food prices are going to go sky high because of inflationary pressures? Should we stockpile?
No. No.
Good morning.
What I want to know is real simple…
After this canadian election, american election, and most probably a Québec election, with this major financial crisis occuring, what are the chances that my internet fee will be lower, and will they stop spying on moi???
wow. that sure is a lotta talk shows. maybe just once for a change the dems can respond to a dominant repub bullshit theme with this:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/53802.html
Weaponry so advanced that it spots the enemy and destroys it from nearly two miles above the battlefield made the difference in the fight for Sadr City last spring.
Sounds like the weapon that was too super-duper secret for Woodward to talk about.
how do you now it will be a hatchet job?
I am still in mourning - my Sooners lost to Texas yesterday
Good Morning Everyone.
Thanks much Elliot for the incredible work you’ve done with the Sunday talkinghead lineup.
was talking with a neighbor yesterday, and she was undecided on whether or not to vote at all in the presidential election. don’t think she’s ever considered not voting before. it felt strange not to pitch my candidate.
listings amended.
Bwahahahahaha.
BTW, I talked to my friend who has a mfg business in northern VT last night. He does not need short term loans for temporary reasons, like business seasonality, or covering payroll, or any other reason, so he has not been influenced by the banking crisis. I asked him what kind of bank, big city or local, and he said Canadian. That reminded me that I don’t know the extent of the mess among the Canadian banks. Can you inform me?
No, my connection speed and Comedy Central’s player aren’t conducive to viewing, to my great sorrow.
Well that was a disappointing interview. Axelrod tried to talk about the Anneberg Group that Barack was on and when he mentioned the conservatives on the board, Davis just started talking so no one could hear him. Chris Wallace is a joke.
He has promised an Obama expose.
Got an email detailing what would be in it. I was infuriated so I deleted the email (though I did post it in comments yesterday). From memory, they’re going way back in Obama’s life tieing him to all kinds of nefarious characters. Heavy emphasis on Wright, again. Weaving a much more complex patters that will be harder to combat with sound bites.
Deep? No, frightening, if true, given that she is the most incompetent Secretary of State in living memory.
Elliott,
In re: Columbus Day. In Hawaii, they call it Discoverer’s Day. Rather inclusive without the negative connotations.
The thug on press the meat just claimed Obama has run the most negative campaign in history. Brokow said NOTHING about the 100% negative mcpalin ads. Spit doesn’t even cover it!;-(((!
I’m sorry to hear that,
OTOH the Nittany Lions are on a rampage after ravaging Wisconsin last night, 48-7. And next week they’ll maul emptywheel’s Wolverines — for the first time in ten years.
watching frank, blunt and george is so painful. bs all around. fucking liars (i’m especially aware of this, as i’ve been reading about the history of how the decision was made not to regulate CDSs).
Why Village idiots should not be allowed to write about economics.
Compare and contrast with McClatchy’s take on what caused the credit crisis.
My mother’s husband is a rabid repub. We’ve had a few discussions and I’ve never convinced him of anything. But, a funny thing has happened. They vote by absentee ballot while they travel during the winter and for the second time (2006 and now), they’ve not ordered the ballot. So, while it would kill him to vote dem, I’ll accept his non-vote as a victory.
As a side note, they’re very comfortable, thanks to his GE pension and oodles of GE stock. I think he’s a tad worried.
Oh, that’s much better.
well, there’s nothing really important going on, so we can afford to play dangerous games. right? /s
we can’t deny it was a day that changed the world forever.
Yesterday Palin did not mention Ayers in her campaign speech and McCain has finally told his supporters to be respectful. There’s been much specualtion about why he changed and whether or not it was poll numbers. There is a greater possibility that he was approached by a federal agency to tone it down. Hopefully, somebody told him to put country first. At this point I’m concerned about home grown terrorists.
Words cannot express my contempt for the Rs and Mc in particular. Wish I believed in hell.
There is “1421″ and “1434″.
But give Chris credit. He was an entrepreneur who started the international slave trade.
Very funny. Caller to WJ thinks Great Britain was successful in Afghanistan.
Interesting piece over at Hullabaloo entitled “Spite Politics”. Worth the short read.
http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/
Meat the Press doesn’t come on here for 1 1/2 hrs. Would it be beneficial if I listed all of the sponsors for a boycott letter writing campaign?
I wish I could eCAHN. I don’t trust what the politicians and economists say on tv, or the papers. I haven’t deleved into what’s happening here. I believe Ian would be able to answer that question.
Here is a piece from the CBC
On a personal basis, I was trying to get a small business loan with a Caisse Populaire Desjardins, it was looking real good 12 days ago, got a phone call on wednesday, won’t happen for a couple of mnths, they wnat to wait and see.
Thanks for the link. Second your distrust, but at a minimum, it seems like there have been no spectacular Canadian bank failures, unlike the U.S.
Another spectacular autumn day, so I’m outta here. bbl
i’d rather just want to lock them up where they can’t cause anymore damage. and if that’s not possible, at least keep them out of deecee.
enjoy!
link
enjoy the day!
CNN anchor smacking down RNC spokesman Danny Diaz for refusing to answer his questions and continue to spout SOS.
heh.
By enemy we mean patriots defending their country from a swarm of invading locusts using video murder machinery to you know….
Just heard on the radio a spokeperson from the IMF, says that the Canadian system is one of the strongest at the moment, that the dollar will go down a bit more because of our natural resources.
Have a great day, it’s real nice here too, sunny and in the higher forties at the moment.
the man just raked in OVER 100,000,000.00 DOLLARS for his ELOQUENT HATE SPEECH,still an also ran to LIMPBALLS 40,000.000.00 PER YEAR
Was only listening with half an ear so don’t trust my judgment for a call out the protests campaign. Those who listen carefully in later zones could advise you better.
Off to grocery shop for company to dinner. Catch up with y’all later.
well, if you want to get picky about it …
Yesterday Palin did not mention Ayers in her campaign speech and McCain has finally told his supporters to be respectful. There’s been much specualtion about why….
Maybe it has something to do with both Obama and Biden challenging little Johnny to step up and say it to Obama’s face, and being a military genius and all, Gramps spotted an obvious trap being laid for him?
catapulting the PROPAGANDA is a verrrrrrrrrrrrry high paying job
Obama should bring it up in the NEXT DEBATE….hey Honorable John, you wanna ask me about AYERS ………………TO MY FACE….im here and yea Im all ears…refrence to Obamas large ears
Could be but a little bird told me something else.
Morning eCAHN. Don’t you ever sleep?
Whatever. Just know your presence on so many threads is a calming one. Thank you for helping us all with your expertise.
FWIW, I visited our local County Dem. Hdqtrs yesterday. It’s a veritable beehive. Everyone exhausted but quietly determined to blanket the county with person-to-person campaign effort. Running out of signs over and over and over, but getting new shipments in promptly as they are needed. Running a tight ship. Cautiously excited and optimistic, but angry at McSame campaign’s nasty campaign tactics.
This in OH, southwestern corner of the northeast quadrant of the state, not too far south of Strongsville & pretty much red in the past, but changing. Lots of newish houses with big mortgages, young families scrabbling to maintain what they thought was going to be a settled, pleasant existence raising their kids here. I’m betting MANY quite suddenly can’t afford to stay. Many long-time residents probably also in trouble financially, undoubtedly deeply angry. Fundies have been making big efforts all through the area in the last decade and more, trying to swamp the area with their message, home-schooling, charter-schools with TX-issue “textbooks”, closed-minded, racist, xenophobic view of the world. Election outcome here, imo, is the very essence of what people mean by “toss-up”.
I put up our yard signs yesterday - a big array of signs for every Dem. running and who has signs available. I got lots of smiles and thumbs up from people driving by.
Lots of other people, including some I was pretty sure had been Repub. are sprouting them also. Local Teamsters Union powerhouse has Obama sign up. This is in the burbs. Later today, we’ll be travelling out through red country (not campaigning except for Obama bumper sticker and my t-shirt *g*) to Oberlin (a spot of bright blue, heh). Could be interesting. I’ll report back later.
The effort around here is heartening. This used to be practically solid red country. The Repubs. OWNED the place. Not any more. Lets hope the negative smears don’t stick to the wall here. *fingers crossed and little smile of cautious optimism*
Gotta go. Hope this makes a little sense. ;->
Time magazine has an article by Karen Tumulty about McCain’s ground game in VA. http://www.time.com/time/polit.....22,00.html (sorry for the long link) This is one paragraph, so I guess we can rule out McCain running a respectful campaign.
With so much at stake, and time running short, Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” he said. “That is scary.” It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama’s controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. “And he won’t salute the flag,” one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, “We don’t even know where Senator Obama was really born.” Actually, we do; it’s Hawaii.
I used to wish for a confrontation. But now I’m thinking that all of the ‘let’s get along and work together’ is a better approach. When Michelle declined to criticize McC for the ‘that one’ remark (on Larry King) I was a tad disappointed. But if your goal is to unite this country then I think they’re playing it just right. People leave their rallies with uplifted spirits, they leave the McC rallies in a rage. I like Obama’s results better.
Later Ader :)
If you get a chance, check out Krugman’s panel performance on ABC’s This Week. Example:
Brings up Republican base and their potential rejection of a Democratic administration. Kookie says, both sides are guilty, blah, blah, blah. Krugman replied, “I reject the equivalency.”
prolly correct!
Sumner Redstone: CEO Fail upstairs
HA-ha.
If it’s not too much trouble, do you have any good links?
I’m really angry about this business with John Lewis. He’s an American hero by choice- not by accident. For McCain to disparage Lewis’ remarks is, in reality, truly beyond the pale.
Up until a couple days ago, McCain could have plead ignorance to the tone and actions of some (many?) of the attendees at his and Palin’s rallies. but after tacitly acknowledging the problem and being booed himself for it, he has absolutely no grounds for defending these these actions.
The media, including our local Atlanta news, is as usual parroting McCain’s position, and continuing to equate the Obama campaign’s relatively accurate reflection of McCain’s record with McCain’s now well rebutted characterization of Obama.
And to ice the cake, the Obama campaign feels it must distance itself from Cong. Lewis’ statement.
Bullshit
McCain knows exactly what he/his campaign is up to, and must be held accountable for the divisiveness he is promoting.
This is how! Spew alert!
Just saw an ACORN person on CSPAN (Bertha Lewis) that just crushed all the arguments throw buckshot by the three establishment folks.
She crushed it.
Its clear that the USAG scandel and what is investigated and what is reported is off the wall.
Gawd, lets see how much this is talked about versus the leadership of Ohio and their fraud. Or even to some degree what is believed about FLA Bush-v-Gore (Katherine Harris anyone)?
I love the line that poor people destroyed the economy of the billionares (or the middle class).
Even Boston sports talk radio is rabid with Republican agenda for that last 6 - 9 years.
I am talking about news & opinion in the drive in such as “these…these…”people” at ACORN…” and anything you want to shake a stick at (John Kerry purple heart, etc, etc).
The old “father and son” tactic for Republic voters.
Of course I just tune out, but have heard enough to know its all part of their paycheck.
OT:
Kramer said to talk all money out of stocks. They are trying to bash him now, but CNN anchor saying you would have saved 15% (so far).
This was sick, and it was a town hall “question” so McCain was about 4 feet from her face when this went down.
Problem with many rabid supporters is that they do not want to hear the facts - some want to be told what to believe, others just want to know what the talking points are (that is to say they do not believe them, just use them as a set of useful stuff to say for the moment).
This impacts both sides, but I think we have clearly seen that vastly more Republics will never challange their own side. “Funny” enought that recently one would have to think they are so concerned over McCain-Palin that many hard-core have actually come out against McCain (George Will, etc, even Patreus with his choice of words on planning and strategy/tactics) - not sure if its knowing the winning side and not wanting to be left hanging on the edge or actual concern with what McCain-Palin would mean.
I mean HELLO - McCain chose a person who could (yes a big if, but could) be in JAIL/charged when the election takes place.
Barry over at the Big Picture said that, since Cramer’s been wrong so often, this should be considered a buy signal.
hope you see this late reply. i was away from the thread…. i’ll post a bunch of links in a diary or something - sorry it’s taken me a few days.
Heheh, good point. I guess that is why it can be best to say little and have people really listen when you do speak up.
Calling on 50 stocks a day…wonder what his error rate is. Or if people go strictly on his word or use it as a tool (or buy quick, get the Cramer bounce and then sell).
Thanks, selise. No hurry, just interested as I know very little about CDSs.
