“Gov. Sarah Palin is faring just as poorly if not worse. In New Hampshire, an official with knowledge of internal polling says the Alaska Republican’s favorable rating has nosedived to 36 percent, with 56 percent viewing her unfavorably”.
NH voters like to consider themselves informed and generally are.
Well pups brothers and sister is on and my sweetie me to join her so off to the bed!! Night pups have a great evening and sleep well when ya get there(:>))
Huge roasted chicken with sage butter, added yukon golds and butternut squash quarters. This, after a day of Mr. CE painting and me cleaning the whole place. I’m wired after a cup of Pumpkin spice coffee!
I mean I went over to my sister’s house to watch CNN for a bit. Then watched part of a baseball game with my 12 year-old nephew. LA Dodgers and Philadelphia Pirates?
Beef Bourguinon for 24. Had it for dinner tonight and tomorrow. The rest goes in the freezer & should last a good portion of the winter. Was too much for a roaster pan, and now the oven is on cleaning cycle.
Man, you must have huge cooking pans! I no longer have space to keep my cooking pans and pots… I’ve simply run out of room. Now, with an empty nest, so has my desire to cook every night.
The plunging Dow Jones and panicky investors are hardly a problem for the world’s oldest profession, where business is still brisk.
“The market is down, business is down, but we feel it less,” said Dylan, 24, a promotional model-turned-Manhattan prostitute. “We’re still busy.”
Though the article does call them morally bankrupt, very strange, considering they also mention Wall Street. A prostitute provides an in demand service, whereas Wall Street only takes from America. I’d hardly call the hookers the morally bankrupt ones.
I did. It was $100/month. Basic is $46/month. All the legal stuff with my father has put quite the stricture in money. I’m just not interested in spending any money. Cable isn’t a necessity. The internet is though.
It used to be huge fun — after living in Paris I learned to eat and cook. I brought that home to children and parents, and we had decades of eating fun. Just recently, an adult child called me for a recipe…and I still love to travel and eat.
i hear that – my rent here includes basic cable, internet (cable) and electrical. i just gotta get wood for the jotul and that’s a lot cheaper here than down in boulder creek. i’m still pinching pennies tho. my mom and i were talking on the phone yesterday about the lessons she learned growing up dirt poor during the depression and how thankful i am that she passed those lessons on to me. hopefully, my girls learned how to stretch and make do. i fear we all are gonna be prioritizing our needs vs must haves vs our wants.
More local garbage on Palin to bust out this coming week.
What seems to be happening, is that people are no longer afraid to talk around here. They observe that other people have begun to talk about Sarah without retribution, and they’re starting to crawl out of the woodwork.
Funny story. My contractors helper, a smart but not very aware 20-something & I were talking about world events a couple of months ago. I mentioned that the best book on spying that I’d ever read is titled The Second Oldest Profession. http://www.amazon.com/Second-O…..038;sr=1-1
He asked what the first oldest was, and was that standard terminology.
Yep that is the most fun…… I didn’t take time to search for a french cookbook but found lots of Greek cookbooks…… even brought one back to Christy one year…..
Hi to everyone. It has been just about the most beautiful fall day I can remember in a long time. I’m spending a lot of time walking a little dog, a beagle, who is a sweetie. Just has to learn who’s in charge.
That’s why i’m moving in with roommates. I like to be alone, but right now? I can’t afford that at all. So until i get a better job, i’m moving in with others. It’ll allow me to actually save up while things go to hell. Unless something drastic happens, i expect to be working for some time where i am now.
Shaving almost 300$ in expenses off my monthly expenses will work wonders at this point. I already live on extremely cheap means. Internet is my only luxury too.
It’s from this book http://www.amazon.com/Private-…..038;sr=1-4
Takes 10 pounds of chuck, which I got from a local farmer who does grass fed beef with no chemicals. Garlic, carrots, leeks, onions, parsley, thyme, tomato paste, 7 cups burgbeef broth, 60 pearl onions, 3 pounds button mushrooms, lemon juice, etc.
“Gov. Sarah Palin is faring just as poorly if not worse. In New Hampshire, an official with knowledge of internal polling says the Alaska Republican’s favorable rating has nosedived to 36 percent, with 56 percent viewing her unfavorably”.
Tim Griffin has to be one of the tricky Dicks of the dirty trickd campaign strategy. The meanness and visciousness in him and his ilk makes Machiavelli patty cake.
Evening pups. Taking advantage of glorious weather to break in new walking shoes. Tons of black walnuts on the ground. Wondering if I should take on gathering, shelling, etc.
I ended up at teh video of Bill Kristol and in it he says “it mailpractice” when talking about McCain’s campaign. Here’s what wiki says the defination is.
In law, malpractice is a type of negligence in which the misfeasance, malfeasance or nonfeasance of a professional, under a duty to act, fails to follow generally accepted professional standards, and that breach of duty is the proximate cause of injury to a plaintiff who suffers damages. It is committed by a professional or her/his subordinates or agents on behalf of a client or patient that causes damages to the client or patient. Perhaps the most publicized forms are medical malpractice and legal malpractice by medical practitioners and lawyers respectively, though malpractice suits against accountants (Arthur Andersen) and investment advisors (Merrill Lynch) have featured in the news more recently.[citation needed]
I understand black walnuts are pretty messy. I just transplated a black walnut seedling from a friend’s yard, so it will be many years before I have nuts. I do have many hickory trees, but the meat of the nuts is so intertwined with membrane that it’s nearly impossible to extract it. The deer and squirrels like em, though.
We generally do scoop them, but lately it has gotten a bit beyond the usual. I have several friends who work at the ADN, write there.
Like a lot of papers, so many people are being layed off, almost monthly. This is no time for these klutzy, rusty remnants of journalism past to be informing the country and the world about one of the scariest, strangest times in recent history.
Has anyone mentioned the black man who spoke against Obama at the McCain/Palin rally?
The Washington Post had an article on Friday.

He calls Obama the Chocolate Jesus on his blog.
did roommates myself. i think we’ve all been there, having to economize on housing – being able to half your housing expenses is a huge help when pennies matter.
Yup, remembering about Sarah and the dinosaurs went to the top, eh?
Just read up all of wigwam’s Glenn Greenwald links up at #3 at the top of tis comment thread:
So, the McCain strategerie for this coming week might be Sarah screaming that both Ayers and Osama bin Laden bombed the Pentagon, linking Osama and Obama trough Ayers? Sounds like their speed. Fed that meme by Bill Kristol, who hopes to be Sarah’s mentor in the wilderness these next four years?
And McCain will be asking for Fed investigations into ACORN, Barnie Frank and Chris Dodd, ad nauseum, both on the stump and in the debate?
Oy!!!
Liatening to Anna Netrebko singing Rimsky-Korsakov opera arias. Sort of takes the sting of a long day away…..
one of my favorite winter means is a pot of hamhocks and pinto beans (if hamhocks are too expensive, then i fry up some bacon and add that instead). Cooked alongside a skillet full of fried potatoes, onions, and chopped up garlic. my mom makes cornbread when she makes this comfort food but i usually make throw-downs (drop buiscuits).
I didn’t actually move out of my parents’ house until i was 25, i had roommates the first 3 years of it. Spent the last 3 at this studio apartment alone, but now it’s time for a chance. It’s lifted a lot off my shoulders after i made that decision and started looking around again. Especially since it looks like all major hiring (aside from Giftmas related retail jobs) are going to be stalled for at least 6 to 8 months, if not longer.
Michigan’s been in the hole of a recession for 8 years at least. But we had a steady amount of hiring going on. I haven’t seen any hospital openings at ALL in the last 2 months. Finding something in retail pharmacy is going to be just as hard, so i’ll stay where i am now. With mid range seniority, paid vacation built up and an established job(and reputation). The pay sucks, but it’ll work until things pick up again!
I’m good Suz – am all fired up preparing for our major winter exhibition at the brave little Stowitts Museum. Spent the weekend unpacking crates of paintings & sculpture – an embarrassment of riches. Our non-blogger singer songwriter Sahra Baker has produced a sold-out benefit for Obama in downtown Monterey on Sunday and arranged for a video of the concert to share online. Meanwhile do check out the cool article in today’s newspaper:
Rightio! Dried pintos soaked overnight, rinsed and cooked. The hamhock adds the flavor along with onion, garlic, salt (lots!), pepper and serrano chili. Too good!
The republicans are having a repression led by Bush/Cheney
Definition:
A depression with military repression. New laws, FISA Military Commissions Act and the finale…taking away our retirements and jobs in crashing the worlds economy. Wall Street rescue Main Street dump.
MCCAIN: “THE ECONOMY HAS HURT US A LITTLE BIT IN THE LAST WEEK OR TWO”
This economy has literally wrecked the remainder of the lives of millions of Americans, and the Republican candidate for president sees it as hurting “US” a little bit. McCain’s notion of “us” doesn’t include me and probably not you either.
O.K. – let’s talk chicken ‘n dumplings (one of my most favoritest comfort foods) -
When you say dumplings, do you mean the biscuit thingies? If so, have you ever had chicken ‘n pastry? Essentially a pie-crust like structure cut into strips.
Have recipe for the best ever, if you’re interested.
I swear, whoever is feeding him these lines is going to roast in the fires of Gooper Hell!
Republicans with a pulse and a conscience everywhere must be head-slapping aghast.
kewl and thank you – looking forward to it. i eat a lot of chicken so am always looking for new (and easy) recipes that don’t require all day slaving over a hot stove. i love to eat fried chicken but…
Ye Gods – that thought never occurred to me. If you have a linky on the deodorant causing cancer please share. This would explain the rumored increase of men with breast cancer.
i’m remembering something from back in the 70’s about the aluminum chlorhydrate or some other ingredient being linked to higher instances of breast cancer. was about the time people were using those crystals in lieu of deoderant – and iirc, that ingredient was removed.
And lending at less than the rate of inflation is a loss, it’s just less of a loss than not lending at all.
IMHO it’s not a loss for banks, because they lend other people’s money.
Suppose, for example, that in a time of 10% inflation a bank borrows $1000 at 3% and loans it for a year at 5%, simple interest. The bank receives back $1050 at the end of the year. They pay back $1030 to their creditor(s), and pocket $20, which now has the buying power of what was $18 at the time of the loan. But, the point is that they did not lose money.
Central banks hold a lot of physical gold and it just sits there earning nothing. As we know, central banks have been pumping money into the markets for 13 months now; what has not been reported is that they have also made their holdings of gold available for lease for about 0.25% for a month.
A short seller in gold can sell spot and lease the gold from the central banks at a nominal interest rate of 0.25%. If you sell gold, you receive USD; the cost of borrowing USD is therefore 0.25% (the gold lease rate) – so as long as gold doesn’t go up it is a cheap source of funding.
The central banks don’t mind this, especially when they want the USD up and as a rule they always want gold to fall. A falling gold price is a sign that everything is ok.
However, as you can imagine this is a time bomb because they are leasing physical gold to a paper gold market. At some point in time paper gold will not trade the same way as physical gold.
The demand for physical gold is the highest it has been for years, and this is the problem. Without the paper gold carry trade, you could argue that gold would be a few thousand dollars higher right now.
Games are being played with Gold I do not suggest selling gold now wait until after Christmas time retail sales tank. Sooner or later someone will do something to mess up the game.
Depends lots of rich people buy Hedge Funds and they use leverage which magnifies both profit and loss. John and the GOP might be blaming minorities getting home loans for the banking crisis but thats a 1 to 1 loss of cash.
The banks loaned the home loan debt out to the hedges at 20 and more to 1
but of course John McCain, Sarah Palin and the GOP don’t understand economics like we do.
I first read about it from a link from a “green” website about making your own soap, laundry soap and deordorant. I think it may be this one but not for sure.
Aluminum chlorohydrate in deodorant may cause it, a tight bra may cause it, clogging up our underarm pores and not releasing the toxins our bodies get rid of when we sweat may also cause it. Nothing confirmed as of yet.
The banks loaned the home loan debt out to the hedges at 20 and more to 1
Okay, so out of those 20 dollars, one was the bank’s, which they had borrowed from their depositors’ accounts. But where did the other nineteen come from?
I think Gold will go up. The banks however want you to lease gold to short it to prop up the Dollar in relation to gold this game the banks are playing is just paper shuffling to make money I don’t trust it and think it will backfire.
Something is a little bit funny when Matt Drudge is treating 1-2 point gains for McCain in the Rasmussen and Zogby tracking polls as “BREAKING” news. Naturally, Drudge ignores other results like the just-released ABC/WaPo poll that show Obama continuing to gain ground.
Drudge has a nose for news, and he knows that a one-point gain in a tracking poll is not news — unless someone desperately wants it to be.
Please Watch this video! I’ve just watched this video (see below), about Naomi Wolf’s (yes, Wolf, not Klein!), and everyone does need to see this. Please send it to all your friends, too. You can see it on YouTube at Interview – Naomi Wolf – Give Me Liberty
Naomi Wolf’s new book is Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries by Naomi Wolf (Paperback – Sep 16, 2008)
In her interview, she states that, in effect, America has been taken over by a coup d’etat (oh, you haven’t heard? Oops, you’re not supposed to know) as of October 1. If events keep unfolding according to the script, there will be another October surprise: The collapse of the stock market may prompt Bush to declare a state of emergency and suspend the election. (Or maybe he will allow the elections to proceed, but suspend the meeting of the Electoral College to formalize the new president.) That last thought was mine, not hers.
It also occurs to me that maybe this is what was meant by David Addington when he said, “We’ll keep pushing until a greater force stops us.” You thought maybe he was kidding?
Please, people, we’ve got to listen up! And don’t take my (or Naomi Wolf’s) word for it– check the sources. See also Rep. Brad Sherman’s video about the threat of Martial Law.
Naomi said that we don’t have much time; In fact, we probably have
less than a month. In her book, she concludes with 6 things we can all
do, which she summarizes at the end of her interview. Please check it out.
The start of a McCain rise in the winger polls to justify the stealing of close states?
Granted they could not steal enough close states to make McCain President but maybe enough to keep the GOP filibuster in the Senate?
Bob taking over during an economic collapse that everyone thinks that you caused is not a good idea.
The market will Really tank on that news. Elections suspended Markets closed, the free press more restrained than usual obviously no longer free, troops in the street.
I’m not saying that Bush isn’t dumb enough to do it but will the army go along? The market won’t and last I checked we needed lots of foreign investment
to keep our economy going.
My question has always been, “Who is “we,” and cover what?”
I read yesterday that there are $65tn of notional value in credit-default swaps. I also read in the Wikipedia that there are only $60tn in the whole world. Now who is going to cover that mess?
But there are only $12tn in mortgages and only 1% of them are in default, i.e., $110bn worth. That we might be able to cover.
I read yesterday that there are $65tn of notional value in credit-default swaps. I also read in the Wikipedia that there are only $60tn in the whole world. Now who is going to cover that mess?
Its doubtful all $65 trillion will go under at once, however the credit agencies that sold these swaps do not control the worlds $60 trillion or anything close to it.
Just how much they have is an interesting question. But I don’t think anyone can cover that also with the market down shouldn’t some people already be collecting?
But there are only $12tn in mortgages and only 1% of them are in default, i.e., $110bn worth. That we might be able to cover.
How many of these mortgage loans were sold to hedgefunds at 20 or more to 1 leverage. Lets say $110 billion times 20 hmm times 110 by 2 = 220 then add a zero at the end of it and you get 2,200,000,000,000 trillion

With good reason. Horseshit for sure.
I just started cooking a year ago. Also empty nest, but now have more time. I’ll lose interest in a year or two, but having fun now.

Yesterday I made a big pan of Chicken Divan….. chicken breasts over broccoli with a curry sauce and cheese on top….
Prostitution still profitable.

I’ll be right by…
Whoo Hoo! McCain is political toast in affluent Pebble Beach aka Del Monte Forest, heretofore an ATM machine for Republican candidates.

I had, no kidding, fried potatoes and onions. It was cold and I was aching for them.
I cook a meal 2-3 times a week and then eat leftovers the rest of the time….. just me and Miss Dog……
Festival gastronomico del gato.

Ohmigawd, Edward Teller – that’s your blog!?!
Good news!
Hi to everyone. It has been just about the most beautiful fall day I can remember in a long time. I’m spending a lot of time walking a little dog, a beagle, who is a sweetie. Just has to learn who’s in charge.
Dog Whisperer Margot, for real!
No fun, agreed. But don’t you just suddenly get a hankering for something? I always think of dakine when I make pork chops and gravy!
That’s why i’m moving in with roommates. I like to be alone, but right now? I can’t afford that at all. So until i get a better job, i’m moving in with others. It’ll allow me to actually save up while things go to hell. Unless something drastic happens, i expect to be working for some time where i am now.

That guy rocks! Or you could go with the James Dobson method. It apparently works on both dogs and children.
Good heavens…
Should read 7 cups burgundy, beef broth, …
Don’t know why some letters got deleted.
ET.
Did you see this blurb I posted earlier?
“Gov. Sarah Palin is faring just as poorly if not worse. In New Hampshire, an official with knowledge of internal polling says the Alaska Republican’s favorable rating has nosedived to 36 percent, with 56 percent viewing her unfavorably”.

wow!
Which blog – PA? Wht do you mean?
I don’t know, I thought burgbeef broth sounded pretty good…
Only took close to 6 hours to make! But it will provide 24 meals for me, or easy entertainig if I decide to serve it to guests.
Speaking of Tricky Dick…Chimpy has cratered below him in the most recent ABC poll.
Worst President Ever.

Yeah – Progressive Alaska
Ok kids…… heading out to bed….. some people don’t get tomorrow off ……
What took so long?
Evening pups. Taking advantage of glorious weather to break in new walking shoes. Tons of black walnuts on the ground. Wondering if I should take on gathering, shelling, etc.
progressive Alaska bloggers scooping the Anchorage Daily News on Palin, according to ET’s blog…
g’nite katymine
Night katymine, sleep well.
She isn’t quite a millstone for the GOP here yet, but we’re working on it….
She’s gone from 82% favorable in Alaska to 62-63% in just over six weeks.
Went back and read this. Very important information.
I ended up at teh video of Bill Kristol and in it he says “it mailpractice” when talking about McCain’s campaign. Here’s what wiki says the defination is.

That is cool. Can’t wait to read. Thanks again for all of your help. Dinosaurs…
Raised with beagles all of my life. The beagle will always be in charge! There is no training a beagle. Lovely beasts though they are.
That’s right alias. My girls have roommates too. (As did I as a kid!)

The point being that a candidate who is a “victim of his/her campaign” is a candidate unworthy to be Commander-in-Chief of anything.

Let’s distinguish between sorrow and pathos. McCain and Palin are simply pathetic. I cannot feel sorry for them.
He was on CNN tonight talking with Tony Lemon for a few minutes.

Our non-blogger singer songwriter Sahra Baker has produced a sold-out benefit for Obama in downtown Monterey on Sunday and arranged for a video of the concert to share online. Meanwhile do check out the cool article in today’s newspaper:

I can fix that for you, Loo Ho.
Picture them sitting with a decorator, planning the upgrades to the observatory.
Yeah, that does it for me every time.
Far from it.

Rightio! Dried pintos soaked overnight, rinsed and cooked. The hamhock adds the flavor along with onion, garlic, salt (lots!), pepper and serrano chili. Too good!
True enough.
Dang, ET. I see why you are so far ahead of me on the IQ scale.
Whoopsie – here is the correct Sahra linky -

Breaking News…
The republicans are having a repression led by Bush/Cheney
Definition:
A depression with military repression. New laws, FISA Military Commissions Act and the finale…taking away our retirements and jobs in crashing the worlds economy. Wall Street rescue Main Street dump.
HuffPo headline:
This economy has literally wrecked the remainder of the lives of millions of Americans, and the Republican candidate for president sees it as hurting “US” a little bit. McCain’s notion of “us” doesn’t include me and probably not you either.
O.K. – let’s talk chicken ‘n dumplings (one of my most favoritest comfort foods) -
When you say dumplings, do you mean the biscuit thingies? If so, have you ever had chicken ‘n pastry? Essentially a pie-crust like structure cut into strips.
Have recipe for the best ever, if you’re interested.

tis much easier to toss another blankie on the bed when its cold.

Per Ian:
IMHO it’s not a loss for banks, because they lend other people’s money.
Suppose, for example, that in a time of 10% inflation a bank borrows $1000 at 3% and loans it for a year at 5%, simple interest. The bank receives back $1050 at the end of the year. They pay back $1030 to their creditor(s), and pocket $20, which now has the buying power of what was $18 at the time of the loan. But, the point is that they did not lose money.

Games are being played with Gold I do not suggest selling gold now wait until after Christmas time retail sales tank. Sooner or later someone will do something to mess up the game.

and you had to leave with that hunger-inspiring notion

Depends lots of rich people buy Hedge Funds and they use leverage which magnifies both profit and loss. John and the GOP might be blaming minorities getting home loans for the banking crisis but thats a 1 to 1 loss of cash.
The banks loaned the home loan debt out to the hedges at 20 and more to 1
but of course John McCain, Sarah Palin and the GOP don’t understand economics like we do.

Typed and hopefully it’s heading down the toobz in your direction. Let me know if you don’t receive and I’ll try another mailing method.
Why would I want to lease gold for the Fed, other than to short it?
I first read about it from a link from a “green” website about making your own soap, laundry soap and deordorant. I think it may be this one but not for sure.
http://planetgreen.discovery.c…..drate.html
Aluminum chlorohydrate in deodorant may cause it, a tight bra may cause it, clogging up our underarm pores and not releasing the toxins our bodies get rid of when we sweat may also cause it. Nothing confirmed as of yet.

Nate Silver:
Magic the banks loaned the hedgefunds money at $20 and more to every $1 of assets the hedgefunds owned.
Please do not ask me the logic in doing this!
What’s on my mind tonight? Naomi Wolf.
Please Watch this video! I’ve just watched this video (see below), about Naomi Wolf’s (yes, Wolf, not Klein!), and everyone does need to see this. Please send it to all your friends, too. You can see it on YouTube at
Interview – Naomi Wolf – Give Me Liberty

It seems to me that the other $19 have to come from somewhere. (But maybe that just shows how naive I am.)
The start of a McCain rise in the winger polls to justify the stealing of close states?
Granted they could not steal enough close states to make McCain President but maybe enough to keep the GOP filibuster in the Senate?
Ask Ian But I’m pretty sure its a Ponzai scheme.
Nate says the chances of a 60-seat majority are one in four.
I’m sure it is. And, I’m sure it’s based on Other People’s Money (OPM). But, I’m trying to figure out whose. The Fed? Depositors? Other banks?
Someone’s getting screwed. That’s for sure.
Bob taking over during an economic collapse that everyone thinks that you caused is not a good idea.
The market will Really tank on that news. Elections suspended Markets closed, the free press
more restrained than usualobviously no longer free, troops in the street.I’m not saying that Bush isn’t dumb enough to do it but will the army go along? The market won’t and last I checked we needed lots of foreign investment
to keep our economy going.
We the tax payers are on the hook for the losses after the Ponzai scheme collapses but I don’t think we have the money to cover this.
I’m sure those numbers are going up everday the market is down.
Oops! time for me to crash out.
G’nite
Nite wigwam
nite wigwam
nite things
i’m out too
Its doubtful all $65 trillion will go under at once, however the credit agencies that sold these swaps do not control the worlds $60 trillion or anything close to it.
Just how much they have is an interesting question. But I don’t think anyone can cover that also with the market down shouldn’t some people already be collecting?
Nite Newtonusr
How many of these mortgage loans were sold to hedgefunds at 20 or more to 1 leverage. Lets say $110 billion times 20 hmm times 110 by 2 = 220 then add a zero at the end of it and you get 2,200,000,000,000 trillion
