Early Morning Swim

  • McPalin’s campaign events — ugly mobs.
  • And yet, they keep fanning the flames.
  • But "it’s not negative — it’s truthful."
  • So far, it doesn’t seem to be making a dent.
  • Market down another 700 yesterday.
  • It’s the S&P’s worst year since 1932.
  • Troopergate won’t go away.
  • Palin’s radical right wing pals.
  • McSame in WI; Obama and Palin in OH; Biden in MO.

Sneaky, but effective… (Opps :)! Morning BT and All :))

‘States have been trying to follow the Help America Vote Act of 2002 by removing the names of voters who should no longer be listed. But for every voter added to the rolls in the past two months in some states, election officials have removed two, the Times’ review of the records found.’

“Help America Vote Act of 2002″

means…

Act like you’re trying to help Americans vote, when in fact, you are doing just the opposite.

Interesting. The 538 page you link to says Mccain has a 0.32% chance of winning every Bush state. (That’s right. Not 3.2 percent. 0.32 percent. As in forget it. Obama meanwhile, in their view, has a 76.08% chance of winning every Kerry state. We really need to guard against too much confidence otherwise we lose. But if 538 is an accurate reflection of the electorate, it’s over.

What makes me particularly pleased about te 538 numbers isn’t just the fact that Obama is doing well but also that McPalin’s scummy attcks are being rejected.

Thanks for great links, BT.

Not that it will help, but I just sent a fax to McCain’s Washington office, reminding him that 18 USC 245 makes voting and campaigning Federally protected activities that he and Palin are inciting violence against. Full text in my Oxdown diary.

Thanks. Gosh, the Secret Service is so efficient, it looks like they opened and closed that investigation all in a period of about 24 hours.

Spit.

If we had a real Attorney General, I would forward my McCain letter to him, but it’s just pointless with Mukasey. Our only hope is to build some kind of social pressure pointing out that violence is not the answer.

Yesterday I suggested that we identify a group to start putting anti-violence Public Service Announcements on the air quickly, but I still haven’t thought of or gotten suggestions of which group would be best positioned to actually make this happen.

Why, for heaven; sake? We need people on the streets, we need people to act against these buggers, we need marches of a million people knocking down the doors of Wall and the WH, we need citizen action instead of the torpid leadership. Take up the pitchforks and run the bastards out of their ivory towers. Not that I am advocating violence, unlike McPalin, but we do need massive citizen action in the streets or we will just have the same corporate buggers do to us what they have done for years.

My opinion is– doubtful.

53A AmJur2d sec 20 says;

Incitement to riot is a specific intent crime involving a specific intent to provoke a riot or that disorder ensue. To demonstrate that a defendant is guilty of the crime of inciting to riot, the state must prove not only that the defendant’s conduct created a clear and present danger of riotous behavior, but also that by such conduct he or she in fact intended a riot to ensue.

The gist of the offense of inciting to riot is its tendency to provoke a breach of the peace, even though the parties may have assembled in the first instance for an innocent purpose. There must be such action or conduct as will naturally lead or urge others to engage in, or enter on, a riot and if any person, or group of persons, arrange to so agitate the community that the expected result of the agitation would be a riot, the conduct constitutes incitement to riot.

As harsh a litany of the Bush incompetencies and dishonesties as I’ve ever heard.

And he scolded the hysterical guy from Waukesha and told him to look in the mirror…you voted for the last eight years…that’s how we “got where we are”

One hopes they re-play this during the 9 ET hour of the show…and that WABC puts it up in the Imus Interviews section. I know, I’ll hold my breath…WABC also owns the pimps of hate porn, so my expectations are pretty low.

OT, of course, but perhaps relevant in some way. :)
Some here will completely disregard the link below. Others will not ;)
You can ignore the ’star gate’ speculation etc, if that is not your interest or belief, but please follow the links.
A lot of very strange/unsettling coincidences/timing and odd people linkage/connections..
Question, ‘
Who? are those people being chosen’ to ‘fix’ the current manipulation/destruction of the US and its assets?’
‘What is their profession/personal history?’
And, ‘What are their profession qualifications?’

The truth can be hidden in strange places and with the way things are going in the country and world today, those people and their motivations, are FACTS we need to know and know about now…

p.s. For the christian/religious believers and students of history here, remember the Vatican has the best historical ‘library/time-line’ in the world. They are taking ’something’ seriously.

If 1/3 of the country believes he is a foreign, non-Christain, ally of terrorists then they will be on his administration like fleas on a dog. You thought they were bad during Clinton? Just wait. It’s time the Republican Party and their extremists be delegitimatized. Wouldn’t it be ironic if President Obama used the powers that Bush now claims and declared the leadership of the Republican Party a terrorist organization and gave them a holiday in Cuba?

The wingnuts have been in charge for the last eight years while this mess has been brewing, and don’t have the guts to own it, but own it they will.

According to Scarborough, it was Barney Frank. I guess he pulled a reverse Norquest, and singlehandedly sent capitalism down the drain.

How far left of middle are ya talkin’ about? Extremism doesn’t work, right or left. We’ve seen enough examples to know that. Centrism to me means no vision, no ideas, continue with the status quo. A “don’t worry, be happy” mindset. I like to wear Trotsky for the shock value. Doesn’t shock so much when a lot ask, “Who’s Trotsky?”

I believe President Obama will surprise many of those who have been disappointed with his ‘middle’ views during this election, once he is in office. This economic crisis is the perfect set-up for his views on how this country needs to be run. His views are more left of center than he has shown up to now. He had to get the middle-of-the-road voters to vote for him. But, it’s obvious that his governance philosophy is going to have to be more left just to get us out of this mess. It’s a win for him and us.

The people in this video are a reflection of the majority of the population of my city. I don’t talk politics with ANYONE here, they don’t listen to reason. They will start yelling, go straight into the dead fetuses on slabs, sucking out brains, and they don’t want to hear anything other than what they have been programed to believe. They also consider the war, economic crisis, and every bad thing attached to the GOP as collateral damage in the mission to force their idea of Christian values on our nation.

Just. Plain. Crazy.

Here is a website to see if you can vote. Click the state you live in, put in your name, birth month and year and zip code. It said I was a registered voter and had 2 places that I should be able to vote at and the top choice was correct. With all the purging going on we need to get this out there so people can find out if they have been taken off the voting roles before it’s too late to do anything abt it.

Obama’s econ advisors are from the Behavioral Economics school, not the Friedman school. Behavioral economics has not been discredited, but it’s pretty marginal for ability to explain macroeconomic events. (Disclaimer: I like behavioral economics for explaining certain phenomena, but it’s not sufficient in & of itself.) I also have suspicions that propinquity with the Friedmanics may have some influence on the behavioralists, but no evidence to support that suspicion.

I think we’re all somewhat apprehensive of what’s going on but I have faith in the common folk. They, we, will band together to weather this and we won’t need a world war to pull us out of it. The rich fucks thought they could leave us all to swim on our own. Fine. Let’s see how well they get through this.

I don’t know anything about UofC economists. What I do know is that there is going to have to be a complete overhaul of economic philosphy over the next several years. Those economists may have to rethink their positions. Obviously, what we’re going through right now has never been seen before. Not even in the 30’s. It’s a completely morphed animal. Has your economic philosophy changed recently due to this extraordinary financial situation that many countries are facing?

I doubt that the Friedmanics will change their minds. They (like died-in-the-wool communists) will argue that everything went awry because the U.S. never really did what the theory said should be done.

Many responsible economists will indeed study this episode & change their minds. However, since there have been so many crises in the past, economists in power can certainly be criticized for not paying attention.

Thanks to all for compliments. *blushing*

The only way I can cope with disaster is to become hyperrational.

A story: On the day of the stock market crash in 1987, I was in my office calculating what the so-called wealth effect would do to consumer spending. Early afternoon, I got a call from the person who arranged research calls. I told her I knew what she wanted to know & was working on it. She arranged a research call for the close of market with a technical analyst who compared it to other stock market crashes, me on the economic implications, and the portfolio strategist on the market implications. Trading that day went on until nearly 5 o’clock, and the head of equities, a stout Cuban, marched around the trading floor with a dead cigar in his mouth telling the traders to keep on the phones & do their jobs. When trading ended, we did our research call. We did it again at 7:15 the following morning. It put rational words into the sales force mouths, that they could call clients and have a rational discussion. It was First Boston’s finest hour, and I think it was a small step in calming panic. Doesn’t look like that’s going on anywhere today.
