ZOMG — my one-man/one-woman marriage is like totally in danger now!
The Connecticut Supreme Court overturned a ban on same-sex marriage on Friday in a victory for gay-rights advocates that will allow couples to marry in the New England state.
The court found that the state’s law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation.
…
In the 4-3 opinion, the court wrote "the state has failed to provide sufficient justification for excluding same sex couples from the institution of marriage."
When asked to comment, John McCain blamed Bill Ayers and Sarah Palin said, "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!"

thank you. that’s very good news – and we could all use some of that, especially now.
Equal Rights for all!!!
Oh Happy Day!!!
Good News I hope the howling rabid mice of the McCain Palin rallies go nuts on TV about this. I don’t think pictures of angry mobs will win swing voters.
Is McCain taking a page from the Nazi how to do a political rally playbook?
did Palin really say that? I guess she’s not worried about upsetting her friends and losing her reputation for tolerance.
This news from CT is wonderful!!! It speaks highly of the state, the people in that state and is an amazing turn around for those who brought us LIEbermann. Equal rights for ALL!!!! INDEED!
Well, no — I made that up.
oh good grief!
I wonder will it be more money for bankers? Or will Congress start creating jobs to spur demand?
It’s pretty disturbing.
I guess mccain fans can go to cafepress and order their hoods there. good grief.
it’s scary. thing is, if Obama doesn’t win, I will feel that angry and out of control too.
Why make stuff up Sarah has said so many crazy things?
Oy. thanks for clarifying. is it Nov. 5 yet? :)
Oy. Tough crowd.
sorry guys, I’m getting lost in all the re formatting of my two favorite sites, so I don’t remember where I read that Wachovia is going to give millions to the RNC to help McCain. Shit! What does that tell ya about the bailout?
This news coupled with the shocker that Christopher Buckley just endorsed Obama and the polls, there is much weeping and gnashing of teeth at the Corner. Forgive me a little schadenfreude. Oh, OK a lot!
YEAH!!! that is good news….
OT, from couple of threads down..
‘Remember their talk of the Iraq/Afagastan being WW 3. Is this their way to get it for real? Is this why there is a US Army brigade in the US?’
http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
Question. This Army brigade deployed Oct 1, Where are they now?
Wow, gotta link?
For some reason the chants of “You-ess-ay, you-ess-ay,” are chilling and quite reminiscent of ‘displays’ from a certain, earlier time … in another country which also liked the imperial eagles of Rome to perch on their ’standards’ …
Sweet Dancing Moses. What will the PALINdrome say?
Nah. tired crowd. so many crazy things flying around it’s hard to keep up. I’m pretty fried by the terrorist stuff. Michelle Obama did a masterful job at keeping her head up and being so gracious and poised with all that is coming at her family on the Daily Show. I’d be in the closet with my blankie if people were saying such hateful things about me and my family.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/b…..-for-obama
He headlines it “Sorry Dad, I’m voting for Obama.”
Sweet huh?
McCain doesn’t seem to realize that if the economy keeps going social order will be next controlling a poor hungry mob requires that you point them to targets who have food and cash.
Thanks to McCain our army is tired, equipment warn out etc. We can’t invade Poland like Hitler did.
That leaves the mob attacking internal targets and since minorities don’t have much food or cash…that leaves Republicans as the mob’s likely target.
Chris Buckley rawks. He’s an awesome writer and has his own voice.
No worries :)
That makes some kind of ugly sense. it’s just mindless that people need an outlet for their frustration but let ogres like McCain choose their targets. So very destructive.
The Democrats should ask for double their money back, that and and new leadership at the bank.
Never bite the hand that feeds you, it might bite back.
fantastic news for love!!!!
Whoops now see? I just reread my comment and it looks like I said stuff was coming at MO from TDS when I meant to say she was on TDS. And I can’t deal with the ugly stuff coming from people from the McCain camp.
I’ll go back to lurking and sipping coffee…sigh.
The economic news is making it difficult for McCain to exploit the hatred of gays. He and Palin will still try. It’s all they’ve got.
Good news on a Friday — gotta love it.
I’m waiting to hear what Short Ride Joe has to say about this decision.
*g*
andrea mitchell is airing the stupid ayers web d from McCain campaign
can’t stand her
Nobody seems to have noticed that the world came to an end in May 04 (I think that was the date) when Massachusetts passed gay marriage.
I still don’t understand how the whole cause and effect of how it will destroy my heterosexual marriage, but I guess I’d better go ahead and schedule some appointments with a marriage councilor. Surely those right-wingers wouldn’t lie about something like this…
lol.
Yet obviously this is directly responsible for the current economic meltdown.
Andrea Mitchell annoying McCain’s advisor, he with the over–dyed eyebrows Douglas Holt with hard questions. I question why Andrea is even assigned to cover the financial meltdown.
I was hoping you (or someone else) would immediately notice the chain of causality. *g*
she did annoy him but she still annoys me. but i’m big enough to say she did a good job agitating him. I question that as well considering her husband’s role in this mess
And of course, Barney Frank is the link.
Ya think? /snark
I’m sorry, but if there ever was a conflict of interest, there it is. Head meet desk.
A couple of things to remember:
Army units have been stationed in the US for most of the life of the country. Places like Ft Knox, Ft Bragg, Ft Drum, Ft Gordon, Ft Hood, etc all have active army units.
Given how the Bush Admin has been destroying the National Guard with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, this is most likely to appease some governors and keep them from going into full scale revolt as the stated mission of this group is to do things that would be normally done by National Guard.
If they did pull the Guard troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, then this unit and others like it would be going into revolt instead.
As difficult as it may be to believe, not every action taken by the current administration is a conspiracy and grounds for a panic.
lol.
ecahn and hugh – that’s right! the housing bubble downturn started here in MA. *g*
oh, we have lots of “links”
Like all gay men I Want an Old-Fashioned Wedding.
o/t why does luke russert on my tv?
Grounds for panic? No. Grounds for suspicion? Yes.
Actually after twelve years, I’d settle for a simple ceremony by the justice of the peace. Alas, that ain’t happening anytime soon here in NC.
OT, did anyone see Kathleen Parker on MSNBC? Parker spoke about Sarah inciting the crowd with comments such as “he’s not one of us” and Sarah is playing a dangerous game.
is it Nov. 5 yet? :)
nope, but I’ll let you know.
And on that day, you’re all invited to my birthday party.
err, assuming that I’m going to be in the mood for a party….
“Homo sex is a threat to national security” ???
Why, is Mahmoud going to come to America with all his cronies and rape the hell out of the Male American population … ?
That’s a bad link. Please try again.
o/t via HuffPo: Angry McCain Rally
I see he is still lying about O raising taxes on the middle class. Class act that John McCain and his campaign (spit)
I hate to rain on this parade, BUT I’m not sure this is good at this time. For several reasons.
First, it’ll get the wingnuts out to the polls in droves. Not good.
Gay marriage will one day be legal nationwide, the constitution as it stands practially guarentees it. But the constitution can be amended. And IF an amendment were proposed banning gay marriage it would currently pass in every state.
America needs to evolve some more before the Supremes rule, otherwise it may get banned for another 20 years (Remember Prohibation?).
I understand the impatience on the part of some and I stipulate that it’s not fair to suggest someone wait before demanding their rights.
But I think we should hold on this for awhile, at least keep it in the state courts so the wingnuts don’t know to aim at the federal constitution.
Boxturtle (Wiccan, knows plenty of gay couples, all are annoyed at me for this position)
Where in NC are you? I grew up in the mountains, there.
Number 31
http://campaignsilo.firedoglak…..azy-bitch/
that sign at the top is interesting.
Homo Sex is A Threat To National Security.
As things stand today, that has some truth to it. So long as homosexuality is seen as a deviancy or in some way possibly illegal, it does open up the door to blackmailing or compromising of intelligence assets, congress-cowards, etc.
If the stigma was lifted, however, any possible threat to national security goes away.
heh. That’d be a fun argument to fling at knuckle-draggers.
Next door
good thing we didn’t follow that logic or the civil rights movement would have never happened. A rock upside the head and water cannons didn’t deter them, neither did lynching. Let the nutjobs come out, there are more of us than them
Boxturtle: I understand the impatience on the part of some and I stipulate that it’s not fair to suggest someone wait before demanding their rights.
That’s the only part of your argument that I agree with.
Spacefish: Out in the boonies. The mountains between Asheville & Weaverville.
for boxturtle @ 53
It’s only a threat to national security if it helps McCain get elected. Because a McCain administration is the biggest threat to national security.
Last I checked, no one ever ‘waited’ for their rights to be given to them, they had to fight for them.
You can fool some people sometimes,
But you cant fool all the people all the time.
So now we see the light (what you gonna do? ),
We gonna stand up for our rights! (yeah, yeah, yeah!)
So you better:
Get up, stand up! (in the morning! git it up!)
Stand up for your rights! (stand up for our rights!)
Get up, stand up!
Dont give up the fight! (dont give it up, dont give it up!)
Get up, stand up! (get up, stand up!)
Stand up for your rights! (get up, stand up!)
Thank You Jesus Ahem
Beautiful area. I was in Boone, then school in Raleigh.
Bob
Marley of all folks understood that
Thanks for the song — I sometimes sing that as I try to get the kids out of bed in the mornings.
O Brasil é rasta!!!
when is the troopergate report scheduled to be relased?
8 years ago I didn’t care about this issue. My gay aunt was dead and I didn’t know any gay people. After the Gore Bush fiasco I became more interested in the politics of the day. Now I sign petitions and vote for equal rights for all including this issue. I discuss this issue with friends and family. My kids know a few gay people and are accepting of them and their equal rights. Hopefully their generation will be the first to grow up with out so much stigmatism as our and our parents generation had.
Way OT -
crawl at MSNBC says that Colin Powell is testifying as a character witness for Ted Stevens at his corruption trial.
That miserable motherfucker wouldn’t recognize a principled man, or a principled stand, if bit him right on his worthless ass.
Off to the Hague with you, you pitiful excuse for a human being.
Christy has a new post up: “Did The Economy Or Erratic McCain Help Obama Cross “The Archie Bunker Divide?”
LOL. I sometimes sing Exodus…movement of the people for the same reason.
We got some gay rights not a lot…lets git some other rights back too like right to assemble… right to free speech…right to privacy…habeous corpus altogether now say we wanr our rights and we want them ALL now.
movement of jah people
You have a valid point, BUT…at that time, there was no danger on a constitutional amendment passing nationwide that would religate blacks to second class status. Not enough states would support it. In this case, there is very much a risk that such a thing would pass were it offered today.
And that would set the entire thing back decades. We have a very good chance of getting progressives elected everywhere currently. All we really need is time enough for the normal people (as opposed to wingnuts) to realize that the sky is not falling because Elton or Ellen got married. Tactically, I’d start my push for national recognition of the marriage right such that the supremes rule right after the next mid term election.
Boxturtle (Certainly we’ll have the Justice dept on our side if Obama winds)
In the favelas absolutely reggae is big or even reggae fused with rap.
Geez, after his U.N. presentation I thought it wasn’t possible for Powell to reach new lows. Keep saying, my imagination is just not rich enough to anticipate the depths these guys will plumb.
Billy Graham and a hist of freinds live in Montreat kinda like real conservative
I want the right to be gay, i.e. happy, back. Haven’t been that way much in the past 8 years.
i’m sorry but I disagree with you completly and utterly. Social movements produce civil rights and set political agendas. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that Kenndey or johnson would have done a thing had there not been such a ‘visible’ civil rights movements.
I went to high school with Billy Graham’s grandson. I have a lot of respect for Billy Graham, but his son (my friend’s father), Franklin, went off the deep end.
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
there didn’t need to be a constitutional amendment to relegate blacks to a ststus they already had. The constitution doesn’t say a word about marriage and I like it that way. it’s not a matter for the federal govt. marriage license are issued by state govt. so i don’t get your argument
I went to see him in the Nam cuz we got time off to do it. What a crock.
Yes, Colin appears quite content for his legacy to be that infamous speech to the UN.
Remorse doesn’t appear to be part of his makeup.
makes me smile *g*
thanks..cause that other shit is starting to piss me off
Did the rest of Lieberwocky’s fake gray hair fall out?? It will be a hoot to see/watch the NutBag reaction to this…. Tony Perkins must have just jumped off his building…tee..hee.. NutBag philosophy bites the dust….
watch him with the kids
