Palin had spent the days before the debate steadily working the torch-wielding mob GOP base into a steamy lather over Ayers. And as Jane notes, they are none too pleased that McSame left them hanging last night.
No mention of Ayers. No mention of ACORN. Not even the feeblest attempt to expose Obama’s radical roots. Disaster.
Obama consorted with a terrorist who brags about planting bombs and whose organization planted hundreds of bombs…Let’s put this quite simply: This is an abomination. This alone disqualifies Obama from being president…This is not rocket science. The facts must be presented. Clearly, concisely, repeatedly. They haven’t been.
I think he missed the jugular…he never brought up William Ayers…You can’t go to the American people and say you shouldn’t vote for Barack Obama because he’s intimate with a terrorist who’s as bad as Osama bin Laden, and not mention it in a debate.
And if you think they’re grumpy now, wait ’till they get a load of this:

His top aides suggested afterward that, going forward, the candidate wouldn’t focus on the former domestic terrorist nor invoke the name of Obama’s controversial pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Their last, pathetic shred of hope — crushed.

Well, they do have one more debate…which could seal the fate of the Republican Party as a cadre of lunatic extremists.
I mean the hyperbole is actually quite humorous. Ayers “a terrorist as bad as Osama bin Laden”. Yeah, one killed about 3000 US individuals on a single day…the other none. One that has integrated himself into the social life of this country…undertaking social causes that help the disabled and poor. The other is still at war. One faced the law, actually surrendered himself into custody…and had the charges dropped for lack of valid evidence. The other remains a fugitive. One had only a tertiary position even within the radical group he belonged to…the other is the founder and spiritual head. One belonged to an organization that had very little influence or financial support, even amongst the left, and killed more of their own members than others. The other remains, because of bungled American foreign policy and the expressions of racism and Anti-Muslim hysteria, still a significant influence amongst Muslims and some others.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled post.

Doesn’t it? Since we have begun to hear less of W and insane rants without ideas, I swear I am beginning to have a small sense of the music of the spheres with the sound of truth. Not to overstate it, of course. But a near conclusion that McC is mean and nuts, Palin is a bad prank…and we have some sane voices on the other side…sigh.
Maybe some of you saw Couric interviewing both Mc and Obama: when asked to name 3 people each would like to have dinner with, McC started with Petraeus; Obama, Mandella and talking about last time he saw him. McC ended with some unidentified big time sports hero (most anyone would do) and Obama mentioned his very aging grandmother who sacrificed much for him. You choose.

In the Biden speech I heard today, he came down hard against the Palin attacks, but did not acknowledge her existence, at least not by speaking her name.

McCain got hammered for going negative in the first debate. If he had gone even more negative in the second debate, he would have delighted his base and lost even bigger in the polls.

And Branchflower’s report comes out Friday. I can’t wait. Given the evidence already in the public domain, it’s hard to see how the report will come to any other conclusion than Palin using improper influence to persecute the ex BIL and illegally firing Monegan.

This moose was well taken care of. And I’m slowly roasting a wrapped roast of it on the rotisserie. Marinated it in homemade teriyaki and garlic and home-grown Thai peppers all day. We’ll be having a beet-raspberry-goat cheese-arugula salad, home-grown potatoes and Blackstone Pinot Noir with it….
This stuff isn’t going to stop when Obama wins – it’s probably going to be the right’s main contribution to political discourse over the next four years, along with the other smears. Any thoughts on how to prepare?
I’m wondering what McC’s future will be. After Kerry’s duck-hunting stunt, I really hated him for being so freeking stupid. Then that ‘your daughter the lesbian’ line and finally not fighting the Ohio results. I was so angry, I couldn’t look at him without feeling disgusted. It hasn’t completely gone away. Of course, I voted for him but I was really pissed at the stupidity. I wonder if the repubs are feeling that way towards McC and Palin.
They’ll never let it go. There are still people (like my sister) who think the Clintons had Vince Foster whacked. If Obama wins, they’ll crank up the slander machine and as with Bill Clinton, attempt to remove him from office by any means necessary.
What irritates me is that I know a large part of the reason Pelosi and other Dem leaders took impeachment off the table is that in case the next president is a Democrat, they don’t want to provoke Republicans into launching another petty witch-hunt like they did during the ’90s. Good luck with that, Republicans don’t need any provocation to be vindictive.

When ET Jr went off to college at Humboldt State in late August, the Palin thing broke a day and a half later. We had one reporter, author, visiting candidate or film crew crashing here after another. Ms. ET thought it was distracting at first, be we eventually got into the routine, and she LOVED It. So many cool people, working all day, getting the truth out on Palin, then coming back here late at night to talk, crank open a brew or a bottle of wine, and talk.
David Neiwert was the last one to stay. Wish he’d been able to stay longer. German film crew coming this weekend….

McCain attended a couple of far right wingnut groups in Oregon, including one whose primary issue is abolition of LGBT civil rights and another that publicly praised the assassination of doctors who do abortions. Other prominent Repugs boycotted and denounced the programs of these groups — not McCain.
Palin’s husband is a member of an Alaska secessionist group whose convention she attended, which received support from IRAN to address the UN on supposed US crimes against Alaska.
