The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking report shows Barack Obama with a 52% to 41% lead over John McCain.
These results, based on Oct. 5-7 polling, are the best for Obama during the campaign, both in terms of his share of the vote and the size of his lead over McCain.
Clearly, the problem is McPalin isn’t shouting "Bill Ayers" loudly enough.

Boom indeed.
Wo0t!
Great photo!
days of rage
Would someone please explain to me why we still need the electoral college?
Love the photo BT, but there’s something you don’t understand…McCain deserves to be president and that’s enough. :P
I just thought of something: last night McCain didn’t mention Pallin, but he mentioned Joe Liberman several times. Wonder what that was meant to do?
I would really like to be aboard the Straight Talk Express this morning. I’ll bet McC is melting fast.
For gerrymandering, of course.
For some light reading may I direct you to an article by Naomi Wolf? It suggests something seriously ominous that to my own somewhat paranoid eye indicates that in spite of the good polling, the election is NOT a sure bet.
Preparing for economic chaos and riots? Preparing to deal with riots and protests after another stolen election?
Go see my diary at Oxdown…I screwed up posting the video, but it is in comment #1.
That was meant to show how he works across the aisle
“I would really like to be aboard the Straight Talk Express this morning.”
Heh, I’ll bet there are quite a few folks who wish they *weren’t* on it today.
He used Lieberman as an example of the MANY times he has reached across the aisle. Doesn’t seem like McCain would need to reach farther than his buttcrack to locate Joe.
Why, he has CRS and probably hasn’t remembered anything about last night since he left the hall
Not that I want to help McSame/McPalin out here. But the reason Ayers doesn’t work is it seems so passe. It’s kinda like calling someone a communist. response: What huh? That’s so 80s dude. *cough* its a good thing team McSame *is* out of touch then.
@6. I noticed that too. McCain kept talking about “reaching across the aisle” and grasping Lieberman’s hand.
If you want the truth, IMHO there was something pervy in the way McCain looked when he went around trying to yakk it up with the audience. His jokes were just hopeless. Maybe the Rethuglican party was right about McCain after all.
Too funny…maybe a reach around? lol
I’ll match your paranoia and raise you to controlled panic.
Check out http://www.stealbackyourvote.com for info from Greg Palast and Robert Kennedy. good stuff.
…while financial scandals are timeless and always in fashion.
I would say the reason it doesn’t work is because there’s nothing there. And the fact that people are saying, “how does this help me pay my medical bills?”
Well, Joe is McCain’s DF (designated fluffer) with Lindsey as backup.
Probably been mentioned before but the ACORN voter registration office in Las Vegas was raided yesterday.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..tpop_story
Nowadays signing people up to vote constitutes a prima facie case of voter fraud.
I will feel a huge weight lifted from my shoulders should the November election come and go with the outcome matching with the very clear polling. Until it comes and goes with actual defeats for the GOP and no troops on the streets, I will feel…tense.
But jeez, after McCain loses two debates, responds to an economic calamity like a demented, doddering old fool, has a VP nominee with an expectations bar set so low that a cetipede can’t crawl under it, has a negative ad campaign bite him in the ass, has a running mate who is a laughingstock, is taking the entire republican party down the shitter with him, has a running mate who thinks Afghanistan is out neighbor, you’d think he have a bigger lead than that, huh?
LOL “buttcrack” (smothered sniggle giggle)
I have a theory on why John McInsane didn’t shake Obama’s hand after the debate: he’s probably superstitious about when he can shake a competitor’s hand and when he can’t. It’s good luck to shake his hand while he’s only managably angry than after the debate when he’s about to lose it in front of the cameras…
Oh well that too. Rethuglicans have a hard time showing empathy for the peasantry. When McSame tried last night, he came off sounding pervy or all wrong or something.
Well we should be. I am one of those people who thought Gore won.
I’ve pointed out before that the way Washington DC was set up prior to the 2002 elections there are cleared fields of fire as if they are anticipating mobs in the streets there, not terrorist attacks.
I’m still not comfortable with NSPD 50 on the books…I don’t think these people plan on leaving quietly.

jokes were hopelss but even if they weren’t they would have been. get what I mean? that was a pretty stern crowd. Not time or place for any jokes.
And some would really like to know what his problem was with Brokaw! They cited several times he seemed to be taking out his displeasure with being there on Brokaw, not the least of which was when he said he would not be naming Brokaw as Treasury Sec’y! Was it an attempt at a joke, or what?!!
(((PA))) I’m right there with ya, in the tension department.
This is the important part
The main mitigating factor in this is a mere few thousand troops is NOT enough to cover much more than a single city. Hell, the entire US military cannot cover Iraq…there’s no way to cover more than one or two lower population states with the ENTIRE US army.
Still…it is the fact that Bush IS flaunting Posse Comitatus and Congress is ignoring it. WTF?!
They were stern. I was kind of proud of them (I was only able to watch the very beginning and need to catch up.)
I think they probably also had the fear of God put into them about acting out in any way by McCain’s people and the TV people. And their neighbors. They were under the microscope as much as the candidates and reading their pretty direct questions about “who should we trust?”
That was a weird moment among weird moments.
It was an attempt at a joke. His comedic skill is comparable to his finesse with piloting.
The Clintons must be desperate
Citizen Raven:
“Days of Rage” and “Armies of the Night”…marchin with Norman Mailer and Robert Lowell tryin ta levitate the Pentagon, now THAT’S subversive activity!!
McCain’s comedic skills need work. In the world of the Navy, everyone laughed at his jokes because he was the son of a four-star Admiral who also was the son of a four-star Admiral. He was royalty, but it didn’t help is ability to make jokes.
Yeah well, both Palin and McSame are trying to resurrect the gheist of Reagan, with his “effortless humor.” I am sure of that. I keep hearing David Brooks types talk of candidates in terms of that Raygun touchstone. Except now it’s like a whoopie cushion at a funeral or something.
Just for the sake of argument, do you think Obama would have been in Indianapolis this morning if the Electoral College didn’t exist?
707
In honor of today’s Gallup poll: Ours go to 11.
Citizen leftdchin:
“The Clintons must be desparate.”
Ain’t it wonderful, though… Obama reached out his hand and gave Mr. and Mrs. Billshit the finger and then proceeded ta run away with this election without a single word from the disgraced first couple…Now where in the hell are the Clintonbots who were stompin around’ here screamin’ like angry two-year olds about “sexism” when Obama smacked ‘em down in the primaries??!! Never mind, I don’t wanna know…I saw a bunch of the knuckle draggers at the Labor Day march yellin’ for Coleman over Franken.
Sometimes people laugh at you not with ya. Case in point John McShame
Signs that say “I’m voting for that one” should be made.
Afterwarsd they dug barack. McCain left.
Perhaps. A President would STILL need to ensure he/she is bringing out as many voters as possible. Thus, candidates, unless it was clear by polling that they were set to win OVERWHELMINGLY, would visit many major cities.
Indianapolis happens to be a major city.
In any case, this doesn’t eliminate the need to change the electoral college system if we are not going to simply eliminate it: require ALL states to award electoral votes based on proportionality. No more winner take all electoral votes and forbid bogus electors voting contrary to the vote. Hell, it should be automatic. State X has 10 electoral votes. Obama pulled in 52% of the states popular vote, McCain pulled in 40%. Obama gets 5 electoral votes, McCain gets 4. One electoral vote goes to the highest other candidate…or something along this line.
Clintonbots, Obamabots. Okay, that’s sooo last season.
And let’s all remember that Obama didn’t fall for the Clintons’ double-down and so far as I know he hasn’t picked up a penny of Mrs. Bill’s debt!!
Excellant idea!
I didn’t watch so much as listen. But Brokaw was pretty irritable last night. Cranky, really.
Thanks, Ann!
Hardly. Reclaiming the DemocratIC Party from the DLC infiltrators is perhaps our most important task as we move toward 2010, and the Clintons are the leaders of the DLC movement.
As far as campaigning for Obama, it does seem like the Clintons have done the bare minimum to maintain their party credentials. That’s good, on January 20th he’ll have enough on his plate without being politically indebted to them.
Ever heard of Richard Elrod?
Like this from an earlier post
http://www.cafepress.com/xerotopia.315025991
One of the really nice things coming out of all this is that the MSM has even less cred than they had before. They don’t, of course, have the right to any.
I jest found the citation under “Clinton First Family” in the Norske “Dustbin Dictionary”: “irrelevant”
Seems like Brokaw offered a warm, “Thank-you Senator,” whenever McCain finished speaking but not Obama. Could be my imagination.
I saw Cindy at the end of the no-handshake video (in blue! guess the gold was a little tarnished) standing there like “I’m done with this spouse duty. let’s go already, John”.
Dayum! That was fast!
I’ve found we’re a pretty biased lot when it comes to media bias.
I just passed the TV. Sarah expounding on McCain’s great victory last night. That will give undecided voters who wathced a means of guaging the veracity of her other claims.
Oh you mean the stringpullers behind Rahm and Harold Ford? I am not so sure of that.
Citizen Raven:
My memory only shows up once and awhile when I don’t expect it…tell mne about Richard Elrod.
I’m sure he enjoyed all the fan mail he got after pimping falsehoods for McCain.
Days of Rage
Ain’t that the truth!
He certainly paid for his folly AND Flanagan was acquitted.
Please don’t think Obama and Biden are going to help you with that task. We’ve been through this before. None of our frontrunners were progressives.
I’m listening and trying not to lose my lunch.
and ain’t it great!!
You betcha!
Yeah, I’m pretty uneasy myself.
I recall the words of an Iraqi citizen who was watching Barbeque Bob (the communications guy for Saddam Hussein) on al Jazeer* who said: He is a brave liar.
i thought so too. so it’s not just you. i thimnk he actually laughed a couple times at something mccain said, too. not just “not you tom.’ don’t know if he laughed at that. he’s the only one who laughed at anything.
Well did you see one of the more recent MTPs? Brokaw had on Axelrod, I believe, and one of McSame’s critters. At the end of the show Brokaw cited a poll, McSame believed to be better on national security or something similar. I think Brokaw cherry picked the one poll he could find where Obama was not ahead.
Doya think Brokaw takes instructions from the WH, like Timmeh did?
How about the frequent boy-like laughter at any of McInsane’s attempts at humor. Just bizarre.
And notice Tommy boy’s backpedalling when he went to shake the Obamas’ hands at the end? It’s right after McInsane snubs Obama in this clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI0iIOqPGak
Seems like Brokaw is intimidated by Barack to me.
RIGHT
I got the impression Brokaw might have awarded it as an honorary token fluffing whenever McCain stayed within the time constraints. Obama tended to run over, so townhall-monitor Tom was snippy with him.
I had been home for 5 weeks and was there in Urbana so I was pretty tuned in.
once again today, mcpalin intruced by speaker hwo refers to barack Hussein Obama. that i so childish. what a pathetic campaign.
He IS a scary black man.
yup. i thimnk every time he would “remind the candidates” about the rules would come after obama had spoken.
Did Brokaw’s “laugh” resemble applause in the Stalin era?
I don’t know about the Brokaw step back, he might just have personal space issues. First time I’ve seen the McCain handshake snub… wow, what an asshole.
Hey Mui, Yeah, that’s what I mean. Brokaw is cranky after reading all his “fan mail” from people angry about that.
me being sardonic in the fan mail usage.
Lady down the street now has an Obama sign in her front yard. She was going to vote for McCain but changed her mind.
Citizen Raven:
And now we look back and see the terrible truth that Vietnam taught us: “the first victim of war is truth”. Lookin at photos of those two victims, I remember the bodies of Vietamese children. Great article…thanx for the reminder.
It was a surreal time. Must have been pretty weird to return from the war and find battle lines drawn in downtown Chicago.
Brokaw was actually approaching Obama and Michele and was very gracious at that particular time, IMHO. If he stepped back it was to not block the camera from another angle or some such thing.
Cool! Thanks for sharing Margot. I’m voting for That One, too!
Well, both Obama and Biden have never been members of the DLC, and Obama openly criticized the DLC when they tried to hitch themselves to the Obama bullet train. The Clintons are considered founders of the DLC and Hillary currently sits on one of their “leadership” committees, and has been the DLC Chair in the past. Seems like a pretty big difference to me.
Obama and Biden have already done a lot to help reclaim the DemocratIC Party by activating and engaging voters in every state and giving a massive sot in the arm to the 50 State Strategy. That’s all they need to do anyway since they’ll have much bigger fish to fry once in office. It’s up to us to clean House (and Senate) so to speak, not Obama and Biden. I’m working toward many more Donna Edwards/Al Wynn races in 2010, and am thrilled with the latest initiatives of Blue America, FDL, etc in this regard.
Yeah, it didn’t strike me as untoward. The preceding moment with the McCain’s was a deliberate snub by a very petty maverick.
An all-time Brokaw favorite of mine. At the DNC he says Obama is “presumptuous” because there’s a SkyCam used for the broadcast, even though the networks requested and paid for it and the Obama campaign had nothing to do with it. Interesting how that same week the “presumptuous” chrage was a major GOP talking point:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJdAi50LBOQ
Thankfully, Olbermann calls out Tommy-boy on the ridiculousness. Shortly after, with Brokaw’s urging, Olbermann and Matthews are out of the anchor chairs for political coverage. Makes you wonder why Brokaw came outta retirement, doesn’t it?
They were drawn right where you are sitting too. This is Professor Michael Parenti being dragged past the Alma Mater after the State Cops beat him to a pulp durin a sit in next to the union. Pal of mine took the pic.
Here’s a website about those days in C-U.
http://www.hollywoodhangover.c…..ge%202.htm
I am going to disagree with you there. Obama’s a “moderate” Democrat. I won’t talk of his massive fundraising skills. His friendship with (fill in blank). Let’s leave that till after the general election– please. It’s really not constructive to point fingers at Clinton, or supporters at this point. I was a Clinton supporter. In fact its downright obnoxious, when the issues should be the unifier. (Not that Obama is perfect on the issues, far from it. But the best we have right now).
Citizen ratfood:
Durin the police riots at the Convention in ‘68 I was finishin up my “time” in the army in charge of a dispensary in the middle of White Sands Missle Range at the Stallion Missle Range Center. I grabbed a beer and started watchin’ Chicago’s finest beatin’ the shit outta college students in the park…after a minute er two my brain engaged and I realized my sister was probably in the crowd bein’ herded down blockaded streets (she was a freshman at the U of C)…I jumped ta the phone but couldn’t get through to ‘er for five days and when I did I found out that she had a paper ta make up and didn’t leave the campus that night…when I saw her in the fall of ‘69, she was livin’ on the Northside and still studyin’ at Chicago and I told ‘er about my panic that night and the followin’ days. She jest said that if she believed in God she would’ve been down on her knees in thanx that night for missin’ the war that I must’ve brought home with me. We never spoke of it again.
Well hey, let’s get started on som pre-whinning about the next moderator. No time to waste:
I couldn’t go becuase we were in the hold barracks at Lewis wating to ship!
While that may all be true, I do believe the reason that Olbermann and Matthews are no longer paired in the anchor chairs for political coverage has more to do with them making fun of one another and then yelling at each other in public. They were not so much working and playing together nicely for long periods. Neither is guilt free! I heard Matthews yell at Keith for publicly “correcting him” for an opinion that he stated. You just don’t do that to a cohost and not expect repercussions.
I’ll start right after lunch. Thanks for reminding me. “g”
Citizen Raven:
Carry that load Brother Raven our kids must never learn what we know!! It’s up to them now ta change the world and it’s up to us to see that they have the space to do it!
What are disagreeing with? Obama’s a moderate. Got it. Not the point.
I do agree with you that debating the influence of the Clinton/Emmanuelle/Ford Jr./DLC wing of the Party, and the negative effects of their strategies, is pointless at this time, since I’ve been saying the exact same things since 1992 and Clinton backers refuse to listen despite years of proof and mountains of evidence.
Doesn’t really matter, since the genie is out of the box finally and we’re all moving on without the DLCers anyway. So I agree and happy to save it until Nov. 5.
0: kids! I remember walkling down the street in Tempe in 70 seeing a school bus full of kids and thinkin, thanks but no thanks. With one friend’s kid in Iraq and another teetering on the edge of the big house I say, I’ll fight for YOUR kids, thank you.
Phoenix Woman a couple of flights upstairs on “That One”
I am telling you Rahm Emanuel and Harold Ford are pretty darn happy with Obama. Prepare yourself. Obama minus DLC is a gigantic myth.
Glad to hear your sister missed it. Hard to believe it’s been 40 years. In some respects it seems like the time has gone fast and in other ways it seems like it has been a lot longer.
I was checking out that Champaign link and saw the picture of “Cooker.” I worked with him in a restaurant over 25 years ago. Never knew what his real name was.
I’m telling you that the DLC wants a 15 State Strategy, and Obama and Howard Dean want a 50 State Strategy. Obama and Dean want the entire electorate active and engaged in a transparent government. The DLC wants just the opposite as evidenced by everything they’ve done over two decades.
This difference overrides any policy overlap at the moment when Obama is trying to win an election within dynamics he didn’t create. What Obama and Dean are advocating is at the core of what a representative democracy is all about, and the results of the Obama and Dean strategies are going to be the catalyst for restoring our Constitution. We’ll take it from here.
You’re optimistic. That’s good.
