I was surprised that McSFB actually said he wanted to cut spending for the war department. I guess that privatizing everything but the troops is his idea of cutting spending. Wish I still lived in my hometown, DC. I’d spend every lunch hour in front of the WH with a really nasty, if not obscene, sign.

That FOX poll was hilarious. Afgter the Biden/Palin debate they had a DEM on and he mentioned the polls that showed Biden winning and Hannity almsot jumped ouytta his shorts - “Those are snap polls they don’t mean anything!!” They did mention their Text message poll last night, though. LOL. I always watch FOX after debated as long as possible and that’s usually awhile. Hillarious. In post debate analysis Hannity talked about Ayers who wasn’t even mentioned in the debate. Great analysis. But I guess it shows what they’re gonna continue to do. McCain is above such things and didn’t mention it. Surrogates talk about nothing else. Rove was saying Obama was “weak” and McCain scored on jsut about every question. But i flip around and was watching on msnbc. Tweet’s immediate reaction was along the lines of “That was taking the gloves off? People are gonna want to know why McCain won’t do his own dirty work.”

So if you can’t look a political opponent in the eye and shake his hand McCain must think the president operates in a cockpit 30,000′ above the world. Try to imagine what it’s like to bomb innocent children and convince yourself you’re serving the country, when in fact you just fattened the bottom line for some greedy corporation. It must be a great trait never to look into the eyes of those, who never heard of the USA, right before you murder them.
Must be something to fly far above God’s green earth and unleash jellied gasoline on men, woman, grandparents and BABIES. I could have got in on the killing back then but I knew better.

That war was unconstitutional and so is this bloodbath in Iraq. Let’s follow the constitution for a change.

speaking of handshakes….. McCain tipped after about 10 mintes. Barack and Michelle stuck around for hanshakes - not rope line touching, real handshakes- chatting, pictures and autographs. I think approached talked with every single person. Hell he might still be there. And McCain let him have the camera all to himself the entire time looking like a great guy, smiling and taking time with people. McCain is such a friggin’ dope for leaving. I heard on S-SPAN they even explained why they were only showing Obama - not favoritism. McCain wasn’t there.

I was referencing Chuck Todd of MSNBC who said the outcome of the debate was decided when the Dow closed down 508 points yda.

As if there was nothing poor McGramps could do last night to win the debate.

More breaking news:

I generally think Todd is OK in te sense that there are many worse. Buit what the heck is this? Is he on drugs?

To McCain’s credit, he got stronger in the second half and really found his groove during the foreign policy portion of the encounter. If this debate had gone another half hour, it would have done McCain some good. He was just getting warmed up.

I thought McCain’s strongest moment came during the Russia question which also coincidentally was Obama’s weakest. Obama doesn’t have a good Russia answer just yet.

Mornin’ All,

something that got completely lost last night - Senator Obama’s mention of the US Chamber of Commerce endorsing his Healthcare plan over McCrazy’s .

I looked it up -

The officials, with organizations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Business Roundtable and the National Federation of Independent Business predicted in recent interviews that the McCain plan, which eliminates the exclusion of health benefits from income taxes, would accelerate the erosion of employer-sponsored health insurance and do little to reduce the number of uninsured from 45 million…

anyone following along the last 8 years understands the significance - these organizations have been official cheerleaders of all things Bush/Republics

Still, there were a few Lt’s (and I guess Ensign’s) who didn’t get the flick and were eaten up with their awsome responsibility. I knew one who referred to NCO’s several years older than him as “son”. My guess is that McCain’s ego, Maverick nature, and hereditary nobility would have put him closer to being a young prick.

I didn’t watch the debate (I don’t need to in order to know who I will NEVER EVER EVER vote for) but did pop by to read reactions on various blogs - to get the feel for how things were going.

I keep reading that Obama avoided answering a number of questions, perhaps more that McInsane avoided. What questions was Obama avoiding answering?

I don’t imagine McSFB was very popular with the enlisted men. One of the first things they teach in leadership school is respect must be commanded, not demanded. McSFB was probably one of those who thought his background warranted respect and acted accordingly.

You know, as an Air Force person myself, I gotta say that airstrikes should really REALLY be barred from use except in extremely circumscribed situations. Bombing a rail yard, a military complex, a headquarters building, or hitting troops in a ground support role where there is a clear battle line and no mishmash of civilians - OK, they can be useful - but the way they are bandied around in Afghanistan… It is a disaster (and a crime) to be bombing villages or simply various and sundry collections of people. It seems more often than not they are simply murdering civilians and destroying wedding parties.

The shit has GOT to stop.

Given what AIG did after they got their bailout in terms of throwing themselves a big part and securing senior management’s bonuses, Elliot Spitzer starts to look like a visionary…a nasty, SOB visionary…but a visionary, nonetheless:
http://money.cnn.com/2005/05/2.....0/aig_pwc/
” New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer sued American International Group Thursday, alleging the firm manipulated its books to deceive regulators and the investing public.
The civil lawsuit, announced in conjunction with the State Insurance Superintendent, comes just days ahead of the embattled insurer’s long-awaited annual financial report, which is due to be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday.
The suit charges that the nation’s biggest business insurer, ex-CEO Maurice “Hank” Greenberg and former CFO Howard Smith engaged in fraud to falsely exaggerate the strength of the company’s business and prop up its stock price. ...The suit cites e-mails and other evidence intended to show that Greenberg was personally involved in negotiating some of the fraudulent transactions, and that he directed other AIG staffers to create other misleading transactions, the statement said.

The silver lining: Obama and the Democrats are going to own this godawful mess. And the conservative movement can clear the deadwood out of the way, and start to rebuild itself into a credible force.

Careful, the party in power at the time of the collapse, whether they are truly responsible for it or not, takes the brunt of the heat for it. The only way the Dems make out OK is if they start out strongly helping regular human beings rather than big corporate donors and wall streeters. If the economy continues its avalanche collapse, the Dems MUST ensure protections and survival for REGULAR AMERICANS first and foremost or they will eat shit…and the GOP will help feed it to them regardless of the fact that the GOP largely (though not exclusively - I’m talking to YOU Bill Clinton and your Robert Rubin and PELOSI) is responsible for the mess.

My guess is that McCain was heading fast for the men’s room. Old men’s problem; also explains the length of his absence and later return. He also takes meds for a “kidney ailment”.

I guess he figured a fast exit was preferable to the alternative.

When the Navy chief petty officer’s question was announced by Brokaw there was a warning bell went off in my sensing apparatus. With the handshake and shoulder pat by McCain and his remark to NCP, my thoughts shouted: “PLANT”. Subtle (?) direction of subconscious to McCain’s Navy service (think POW).

last question in the debate; last impression is Navy, POW.

My last impression was “You sorry SOB!”

As much as I love to trash McCain, “the non-handshake” should come off the list.

The TPM post that you link to was corrected. They actually did shake hands, and exchanged a brusque man-hug too. We didn’t see it at first because it happened during the reverse angle from behind the candidates, during which McCain was blocking the shot (and Brokaw’s view of the prompter). TPM later put up a video that shows a different angle, and a handshake.

No big deal — but with all the real reasons to dis McCain, we don’t need to cite ones that can be debunked.
