Pot, this is kettle. Palin in Florida this morning:
"This election is about the truthfulness and judgment needed in our next president,'' Palin insisted. "John McCain has it and Barack Obama doesn't."
McCain and Palin are thrashing around like a couple of trout in a shallow bait pan. It takes some brass ones to claim the moral high ground after all of their whoppers lately. Delusions of candor, anyone?
McCain would rather throw away your future and the nation's soul than lose the election.
How does that make you feel? Personally, I'm beyond disgusted. And so are an increasing number of Republicans:
"The well of false sanctimony is not a bottomless pit," explains one Republican consultant. "I think they have reached the bottom of the well."
The truth? McCain's digging his own erratic hole. Freezing out the Florida GOP chair for suggesting Palin learn the basics of policy and politics attuned to Florida. Detail's not their forte, which is likely why Obama is ahead in FL. And Pennsylvania. And a number of other battleground states. And their dog-whistle surrogates are worse:
-- McCain is set to "debate" Obama this evening in a town hall-style forum. Perhaps someone could ask McCain about the dog-whistle surrogates of the GOP?
-- Well, this is nauseatingly crass. Including pretending that FOX and Hannity have clean hands. Way to buck up the anti-semetic pimping filthmongers among us!
-- Speaking of filthmongers, these ads are disgusting.
-- What does all of this have in common? McCain's politics of desperation. It's spreading.
Since McCain is likely to throw a number of "Obama doesn't understands" along with the kitchen sink tonight, what I'd love is this response:
"Why don't you ask regular folks out there in America how well your long, long years of so-called leadership on corporate deregulation is working for their retirement savings and grocery and gas bills?"
Or maybe he could just ask where McCain got his Keating party hat.

Just read that somebody yelled out “Treason!!!” at a palin rally today. Not quite as bad as “Kill him!!!” yesterday. But this stuff is scary and i don’t think it’s just me and liberals who find it so. what makes it worse is that she hears this stuff and smiles !!
Jeez, Bush answering questions and looking more likable than McCain!
Wow, many links to read…
Hi Redd
I hope Obama sticks to social security and medicare—pointing out that McBush plans to finance his health care plan with cuts to medicare…
McBush is getting most of his support from older voters and no one has yet pointed out forcefully enough that he is revitalizing Clusterfuck’s privatization scam and now wants to cut medicare benefits….time fer some geezer scalp!
FL GOP chairman questions Palin’s aptitude. Got te MoDo treatment.
At what point do the adults in the Republican party call off this line of attack - McPalin are inspiring nutjobs and I can’t believe the Secret Service can stand idly by listening to this provocation.
The tinfoil hat part of me has to wonder if all this pandering to their base isn’t actually some sort of strategic move politically, but rather an attempt to plant the seed in some crazy supporter’s desperate, paranoid mind.
Yeah, Christy. Kicking ass and taking names. That question “what is all your experience going to get us?” is the number one thing I want answered.
hey, I guess we can see who REALLY won the debate with the cnn poll;
there you have it, the right wing can claim “she nailed it” all they want, this was a CLEAR biden win in that debate
well done joe
Here’s a good one about Ayers and Republicans and Obama:

Oh good one rw, debbie wasserman schulz was hitting ####### this last night.
What’s worse is that he is hellbent to do both.
oh man, here’s mccain trying to be “eloquent” “taking the gloves off;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buyVS9fRqkw
please to notice, no flag on the lapel I might add
Okay. This is kind of off-topic, but not really when you think about it.
(my fingers are shaking I’m so upset right now)
I just got a phone call from a volunteer on an initiative here in California. A sweet little old lady voice said she was calling on behalf of prop 8 to restore marriage in California, and had I heard of prop 8?
I can’t believe what I did. I said — to this sweet little lady voice: Yes, I have and my sister is gay, so fuck you!
And I hung up.
Now I’m not a young chicky. I am 55 years old. And, yes, my sister is gay.
So fuck her (the caller).
But I’m still shaking. I am so sick of sweet little people who think they know what god wants and are so happy to impose what their god wants on my godless worthless self.
The Republican Party must die.
Even here in dark red north Florida, we’re getting multiple plays on the largest country radio station (coverage virtually from Orlando to Jacksonville) of an Obama spot telling how McCain will tax health insurance benefits. You can bet Kerry never bought any time on that ClearChannel station.
Even better, I found this over the weekend in a small north Florida community whose only industry is prison.
oops. you had the link, christy. sorry. that is alot of links. great job on that and the commentary.
Actually, now that I’m breathing again, it’s kind of funny. I imagine all over California middle-aged boomers like myself telling sweet little old ladies making those phone calls to fk off.
I said back when McCain started going negative that his internal polling must show that he was doing terribly. He’s doing worse and worse and he is going more and more negative. I expect to see a kitchen sink flying around anytime now. It’s about all he has left.
707
Yeah, it is scary.
I am actually surpised he doesn’t realize his negative tactis are hurting himself
if his handlers had a clue, (they don’t, it’s kkkarl rove after all), they would have him begin the debate by “disavowing his handlers negative tactics, turning the page and running on ideas and record”
he would catch obama off guard, take the high road, look more presidential and it MIGHT have the chance of turning the tide
unless he has a HUGE surprise to unload at the debate, that’s the best strategy for mccain right now
ain’t gonna happen, rove is not smart enough to realize it’s time to change tactics…he is a one trick pony and even though he can see before his very eyes his trick is exposed, he will still try to pull that same rabbit out of the same hat
Since Feb. according to this poll, Obama has picked up almsot all te undecided voters in FL. McCain has been stuck at 46-48%.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com.....otogallery
Anyone know about whether or not this stuff is considered ‘hate crime’ - someone needs to hustle these folks off the stage and show them being taken away..pronto.
I found this interesting from the Philly.com link:
Maybe she missed making a few calls during the time she needed her fainting couch.
first, I am surprised clear channel sold the add and second, if they are bound by law to run it, I am surprised they don’t give a free half hour in debate against the add when it’s done
saw that. In FL no less!!!! I can feel something here. It’s real surprise at how this race is going down here. Obama people are really starting to belive they can win this state. So are McCain people.
His handlers are handing him the rope…they are Bushco handlers, and they hate him. If he were to suddenly take the high road, he would be dissing Palin…and Palin is all he’s got.
They are hoping Obama wins and screws up, and then they run Jebbie in 4 years.
I’m betting there was no discount even though the economy here is in the toilet.
I cannot believe they won’t change tactics when they see the negative is hurting themselves
however they are running in the party of morons who actually cherish rove so there you have it
So’s Keating.
I wonder way more about McInsane’s close associations which he runs away from as soon as they become public fwiw. god, he’s shallow.
o/t Lamar Alexander using the Way Back Machine to 1977 (doesn’t mention Carter, but old folks remember) when people were encouraged to buy homes they couldn’t afford. that’s kind of a twofer, slamming Carter and poor people.
If that happens, and Jebbie wins, then we are really, really bad at this.
The Bush name is mud, and will live in infamy for the foreseeable. If we can’t hold that one down…
McCain is not an overly bright man.
-G
did you see Jim White’s diary on oxdown. Kewl billboard.
anything for the cause
I think it would be prudent for obama to stop calling the scandal “the keating 5″
that’s too benign
“the keating criminals who stole billions from our parents, our children and our retirement”
that would play much better…much
hence Palin’s appeal. she makes him feel very smart.
linkeroo?
she makes my border collie look like a rhode scholar
brilliant
and with the economy Bush built, Obama’s going to have to work miracles.
of course, all bets are off if he does!
yeah, good point. or the savings and loan scandal that originated in Arizona and California. I was young but I do remember Alan Cranston going down in major league flames (kinda like one of those navy planes McCain wasted).
This one I think.
Just thinking out loud here, but the CW says McCain excels at the town hall format, but if I recall correctly, all the Rethug debates were standard format, weren’t they? His town hall “excellence” was in campaign events with pre-selected audiences. Note how he and Palin have been getting so insular this week that even the press is being cordoned off from the crowd at their events.
I’m wondering if McCain is set up for a major stumble tonight. Despite Brokaw’s best efforts, McCain might actually get at least one question that doesn’t begin with the questioner licking McCain’s toes first. If he shows anger, he has just as much, if not more, to lose as Obama does from showing anger.
Obama needs to link and compare this current economic scandal to the Keating crime…
at jim’s #16 plugging his own diary. :P
my computer is hella slow…
Axelrod from TeamObama up now on MSNBC.
Has there been any statements of any kind from McCain, Palin or the campaign about the behavior of the knuckledraggers at their rallies yesterday?
Once the the mud starts flying it is a lot easier for McCain to throw more than it is to act like Mr. Clean.
o/t I like that DAvid Axelrod is addressing the physical difference of the debate set up. I really want McCain physically uncomfortable around Obama.
Vote-by-mail ballot is here.
Ballot marked for Obama/Biden.
I’ll still watch the debate hoping that McCain implodes on TV.
Axelrod doing just that right now. Yay.
Great response. I would have said the very same thing.
Don’t let them get to you. You are right and they are not.
Axelrod explaining why Keating 5 s&l scandal relevant and why it’s important to move forward. yeah!
McCain is going to turn every question into “Obama will raise your taxes”.
no matter how bad obama screws up (or they make him screw up), I do not believe it will be possible for another bush to run during this or the next generation
the name bush will become synonomous with benedict arnold if we have our say
It will be up to us, because the Republicans love Jeb.
Understatement of the day!
Boy has his campaign red flagged this fact.
i saw a McCain Town Hall on c-span. one question was could he come over to the VFW museum for a visit and another was “How’s your mom?” Don’t think he’ll get taht tonight. he’s gonna propses a spending freeze except military and veterans. an awful idea.
What McCain and Palin are up to is just one thing. To put Obama’s race front and center before the American voter. Their sinister bet is that a majority of voting Americans aren’t ready for a black President.
They should be called out on this for what it is: evil.
mccain is hardly “at home” in these town hall meetings, he thinks he excells because he gets some play back but he doesn’t know what a real play back looks like
he just seems like an inept old man
OMG! (((LindaR)))
My hubby and I were both really pissed off that one of the new (and young!) priests was defiling the altar with political crap on Prop 8! He was actually telling us how to vote in order to respect life. He took out of context a message from Pope John Paul who was speaking to the loss of life through War and applying it every which way. But he the priest did not mention the war at all.
AND there was a quilted display of a fetus as well. We have quite the nutty subcommunity of prolifers in our parish who also underline parts of the Bible and take it quite literally but miss the message completely.
I was proud that my hubby, a life long Catholic, told our girls that the reason we were so upset was that we are entitled to make up our own minds and not listen to anyone tell us how to vote.
Don’t worry about offending the little lady who is quite comfortable about telling other people how to live their life.
After the bailout, I doubt people will bite on his “sacrifice” “country first” “spending freeze” BS. People are hurting badly already..they want to be able to “spend”…they want out of the situation his policies got us into.
Phil Gramm
Phil Gramm
Phil Gramm
Dugg.
don’t forget to invest your pension and social security in mortgage back securities! /s
they will hate the name “bush” if obama does indeed win, they are a party of bigots and they will blame the ineptness of bush for butting obama in office
this I guarantee, bush will bear the weight of the obama presidency
mccain makes bush look like a rhodes scholar.
Not the Republicans in Florida. Jeb managed to screw things up quite nicely before he left office and even the Rs aren’t as in love as they once were
My sentiments exactly … they’re making a fool of McCain and he is gladly helping them to do so …
McBush has given Obama the tool to win Florida –social security and medicare—If these issues are properly positioned, Obama WILL win Florida and the game will be over.
True, but they are betting on the United States of Amnesia.
You are correct, sir!
I’ve been offering up that same point all week; the townhall is where McSame said “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Iran” and “100 or 1000 years in Iraq”, and that was without an opponent present.
This ‘McGramps is great in a townhall setting’ crap comes from the soft bigotry of low expectations; he blows at reading from a teleprompter, and without Palin, he can’t get more than 20 people in the room to listen to him, so ‘townhall’ is his strength by default.
that’s a great catch phrase, did you think of that yourself?
I might plaguerize
No I sure didn’t. I can’t remember who said it off hand…
I do not for one moment believe bush EVER won florida, we KNOW he did not win it the first election and we also know there was caging and electronic voter flips the second
florida is a shoe in
McCain has got to be really pissed at bush right now for showing up on teevee talking about the economy. and stuff that matters.
It was Gore Vidal.
Every time Palin opens her yap to spew toxic bile, I remember that awful, awful flute solo at the outback bootie pagan-t. What talent! *urp*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvp7woNA9gw
amendment
it’s a shoe in if we can get some kind of legitimate count
that’s a big if
I dunno, Republicans are pretty adept at blaming Dems for their own f-ups. For the first six years of Bush, everything was Bill Clinton’s fault. As soon as Obama is elected, they’ll forget about W and set to work trying to undermine him. Rush, O’Reilly and the rest of the little Goebbels wanna-bes at Fox News will be secretly grateful Obama was elected because it will boost their ratings.
sh-h-h-h
hush, child.
let ‘em set the bar nice ‘n high. ;->
Linda Douglass (a woman with a brain) explaining why Keating 5 relevant and why they hit on that now. She makes the case very well.
With McShame promising to freeze the budget doesn’t this mean there will be no cost of living increases to SS recipients
LOL
good point
setting the bar low for palin didn’t work out so well for them, even though they claimed she “won the debate” she clearly did not, mccain’s polls were trashed because there is hardly a person who believes palin can be president
if someone ever lost a debate, that person would be sarah palin
It doesn’t mean that there will be a budget freeze of any sort.
It is a common Republic rhetorical device.
Hahahahaha..and this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
Unfortunately, it sounds like this will be yet another sham debate.
check this graph out from glenkong;
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MnYI.....-h/pew.png
palin CLEARLY lost the debate, you really have to see that grapgh to believe it, her numbers went down from her debate with biden…yet the spin machine tried to yell at the top of their lungs that she won
last time he mintioned the freeze he said except military and veterans spending. he’ll have to flesh that out. i assume he’ll agree to ss colas. that much less for other stuff. it’s odious.
But they are McShames rhetoric - define his words for the voter.
Geez. What kind of “town hall” is that?
That favors Obama I think.
Obama has the lead. He can afford for this thing to end in a “Tie”. It’s McBush who needs an earth shaking victory…
Obama showed in the primary that he knows how to play with a lead—just freeze the ball- and if McBush goes McNasty- he can counter- which tears down both candidates but favors the one with the lead….Obama plays smart- McBush plays stupid…
she has a square body, flat butt and can’t walk in heels.
I have a hard time believing she was a credible contener
I think anything favors obama, however they can stack the deck, brokaw is picking the questions don’t forget
GE is in economic trouble, hence the Brokaw BS, as well as taking Olbermann and Tweety off as debate commentators. GE is scared to death of the Obama tax implications.
Brokaw is a determined “objective reporter”. I don’t think he will have an effect on the outcome
KO wil be on before and after the debate
The phrase “town hall” suggests a free and open exchange between candidates and voters. This bears no resemblance to that.
I believe that it was right to take Olberman off the “play by play” desk- he is a color commentator and should not be calling the action. I vote with Brokaw on that one- otherwise it’s just Fox News from the other side of the aisle.
No one could sensibly argue that Olberman is “objectively nuetral”.
I’ll say it again. I won’t be satisfied with any debate until McInsane is foaming at the mouth and threatening to bite Obama’s ear off.
I suspect the repugniks know that.
Let ‘em sweat.
They seem not to grasp the need to stop digging that cavern they’ve got a growin’ there.
In rummy-speak, the delightful self-answering question babbledabble (gawd, i swore in blud i’d never do this, but i’ve fallen and i can’t get up):
Do they understand what they’re doing? I doubt it.
Does their growing panic affect their judgement. I would say, probably yes.
Is that a good thing? Well, you might say it’s a matter of perspective.
……………
Stay tuned, gang.
Say, does anyone know how they chose the “townhall” audience members?
Just color me curious.
Tennessee, you say? Hm-m-m-m.
Give a hat tip to Gore Vidal.
-G
I’d like that too, but I believe that the campaign keeps McCain fairly heavily sedated to prevent him from having just such a meltdown.
He COULD, depending on which of the submitted questions he selects. I also don’t consider him particularly objective, since on MTP recently he cited outdated polls that favored McCain.
Now Listen Here, Chile! You gonna go spoil her picnic? Reely? Let her crow. It’s always interesting when an aging hen begins to crow.
Brokaw may at one time have been an objective reporter, but based on his recent hosting of Meet The Press, he’s just another clueless beltway insider who spoputs conventional wisdom and not very well at that.
The term “pompous ass” is coming to mind
Is Mike Tyson McCain’s new debate coach?
Didn’t see that- does sound a bit suspicious. Lots of the mainstream want to keep the “tie game” scenario going.
Brokaw is an objective reporter, the way Dr. Pepper is a doctor. Brokaw is an objective reporter the way stupid Doug Feith is a scholar.
Lindsay across the hall on Norm Coleman being a kept man.
my my.
do you know how to do “screen capture”?
Delusions of candor, anyone?
nice one, Christy!
agreed. i’m a little worried he’ll lob softballs.
I think presidential debates are time for REAL, TOUGH, HONEST mental jousting.
T’would be a darn shame, though, if mcs popped a molar crown in mid grimace.
Would I tear up? I might.
McCain’s campaign has been reduced to “we’re the ones who are better, neener neener“
good one Punaise!
You know Brokaw is rooting for McSame, but maybe Obama can pull a Palin and bring up some topics that Brokaw won’t - despite what he’s actually asked about.
with everyone’s 401k going down the goldplated toilet called Wall Street, Brokaw is going to ask who will be better suited to be Commandah…in…Chief (with lots of echo and stuff and groveling in front of the Altar of Military Supremacy)
errrr, actually that was Christy’s line… :~)
