These United States "Get Yourself Home"
Sometimes it’s best to sit back and let the band speak for themselves.
These United States is the songs of Jesse Elliott, flipped, forged, phased, and fermented; stolen, re-taken, elongated and elevated, beaten and bruised, occasionally imbued, by an ever-battling band of music-mad robber-barons, enthused aesthetic thieves of the long and winding subway tunnels and underground railroads of our cacophonous nation.
These United States are also members of a band collective known as The Federal Reserve.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Aloha, ES!
Nate Silver (fivethirtyeight.com) projects Obama winning with:
88.5% likelihood
343.8 to 194.2 electoral votes
51.7% to 46.7% popular vote.
Also 19 Dem to 16 Republican senate victories, a gain of 7 seats for the Dems
S.O.S.
Hey ES!!
I hope the Dems say Sayonara to HoJo!
hey es
Oh. ES…no reflection on your excellent post. Just my doldrums. Sigh.
Evening, CT!
Wigwam, What I want to know is why team Obama isn’t sitting at or above 58%? Still to close for comfort, imo.
How may I help?
Palin has struck my last nerve. Grrrrr……..
Aloha, CT… how ya doin’ tonight?
What’s on my mind is that the GoOPers have selected Parah Salin as a loser for this year, but a sure-fire base-stirrer-upper for years to come. She’s the perfect blank slate for the professional asshats in the republican party to mould into the next Dubya in fuck-me pumps.
If she becomes 10% more adept at working the refs in the next four years, they’ll have a formidible candidate in their hands who is owned 100% lock-stock-and-barrel by the establishment wingnuts and Christo-Fascists.
I’m going to listen to Musack until the election. Ahem.
OK Pups you can Digg IT!!
I am sooooo over discussing Palin. But we must do so now in order to keep from avoiding her for four more years. (so I keep telling myself)
I am a little worried that when SNL has her on this week, (Lorne Michaels votes for McCain) that she will have a bump. But after that — I think that she is history.
Personally, I think the poll #’s put it out of Rove’s Diebold designs on the electorate, so I feel good about that…! ;-)
Yup. You gotta admire their manipulative brilliance using those that have no substance.
I think I live in the world of Oz. I hope so, but I’m confused with Wonderland.
New rule! NO musack linking in an ES thread. *g* That’s almost as bothersome as sports talk.
Heh, I fell into the Palin discussion trap today at M&C…! Go figure…!
Right after she gets her narrow ass into the record books with a little asterisk after her name like McCain.
Aloha CTuttle,
Re your comment downstairs, the FHA Hope for Homeowners Program and/or Hope Now Alliance may be able to help. :)

I agree. It seems their only ballot-box salvation is something so transparent that it would result in jail for many, and an electoral crisis, followed by the ultimate destruction of the party.
Like we didn’t already know what they’ve been up to…
Mahalo, peony! I’m researching it…! *g*
New nerves coming up, stat!
Balm for nerves, anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
WOW…. talking about about McCain being on the board of that rightwing group….
Honestly. This is the truth….Tina Fey is our only real hope at winning the election against Bushco. It is that insanely ridiculous.
Tina Fey is winning at this point, but sh*t changes.
Nevermind Obama, Go Tina Fey!!!
NH’s at risk freshman congresswoman, Carol Shea-Porter looks to be firming up her lead now.
This one was touch and go.
As with 2006, if she wins this seat, the election will likely be a strong congressional landslide.
Shea-Porter (D) 50%, Bradley (R) 41%

I moved my 401K out of the stock market. Should have done it two years ago but I was too lazy and it const me 25 grand (on paper).
For the foreseeable it’s in a safe, pretty much non-growing (but non-shrinking) money market fund.
It’s the only nest egg I have, it’s not really much but it’s better than nothing, which is what it would be if it stayed in stock funds. I think we’re looking at Dow 3000 NASDAQ 500 within two years.
Hey, Jo! 8-)
Don’t forget the Impeachment Sarah is facing back in her home state for misusing her office for personal retribution in the Trooper gate matter!
That’s good news.
And the Asians markets are tanking again.
ES! Great music. I just sent it to both my kids. One daughter likes “anything good. From Krishna Das, Jai Uttal to The Jesus Lizard.”
I’m astonished that 46.7% of our fellow Americans are thinking of voting for McCain and Palin. What the fuck is wrong with those people?
And there are experts looking at the Palin tax returns……. after all wasn’t it the IRS who brought down Capone?
Could we be so lucky? The report comes out Friday…
A gift-wrapped pounding from her home state?
Nah, we aren’t THAT lucky.
Well, I consider myself a professional on Asia because I can see the Lotus Garden and the China Buffet from my house.

Heh, If Obama gets in and a respectable AG gets in I think somebody is gonna do time for the ‘04 Ohio shenanigans… The dood in NH almost saw prison bars for a lesser offense…!
Stooopid.
Anyone else watch the Obama McKeating video today? I thought it was a waste of time.. only the scary sound effects were effective.
Way too long.
46 percent undecided would impress me, but 46 FOR any Republican.. wow.
Duh…. forgot the link
he Tax Profs see trouble.
I’m thinking the Rs will be relieved to see her back side when this is over.
She’s hard to manage and first dood is a loose cannon.
Must I channel some PT Barnum…? ;-)
Did you watch this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eu9Z2hXky0
Trapeze????
Hey, I’m still here. Are you OK?
I take it that that was directed at me, LS…? ;-)
wwwwooooaaaaa!
I think Tobin did 10 months, and wrote a book. I think he was on TDS earlier this year.
don’t forget letterman, on 4 nights a week and he’s baggin on lying mccain and his woman of mass distraction
Wrong. Overturned…
No thank you.*g*
Aah, so he did some time, I wasn’t sure… I thought his plea bargain avoided jail time… I stand corrected…! *g*
didn’t he do book salon too – and didn’t appear to have learned much
Ok kids…… sports are on TeeVee….heading off to bed…… Nite everyone…..
Hate to hear that.
Now you got me all confuzzled…!
I did, thanks to a link you shared earlier. It’s excellent.. Among my recent favorites… after Women Against McCain Palin.
They are seriously dilusional, and should not be allowed to breathe air, let alone vote to destroy what’s left of our pathetic lives because of his ilk. Mcnutjob thinks he is entitled to be president, he paid his dues when bush slimed him in 2000. The Mcnutjob slime machine will surpass even bush and rove.
Me, too.
ROFLMAO…Hmmmmm???? Tasty?!
g’nite katymine
Yesterday, we drove over to a nearby place…in central Texas…1 Obama sign, 6 McCain/Palin signs…as well as every sheriff and council member, blah, blah….TX is hopeless…at this point in time.
GOPers are a mission from Rush Limbaugh to steal and destroy all Obama Biden yard signs.
Dugg
Just for information purposes. My retired brother, who is a total Repub, wrote to me today that he has lost 40% of his savings….he then wrote that if Obama becomes president, he is awaiting the “other shoe to drop”.
you mean, a bump like bristol’s bump?
I will never lower mystelf to be like them. No matter what.
when i drove down to ca a few weekends ago to get my critters, i saw lots and lots of obama signs and only 3 mccain ones – and those 3 were grouped in about an 8 mile stretch of 101 in southern oregon
That made me feel good!! Also, I’m so glad that you got the critters back!!!! Yay!!! I hope they are adjusting now that you live in frikkin’ paradise!!! Yeehaw!
CT, Looks like Pakistan has a little present for us this week.
Not good enough. I want to see their back sides, the whole lot of them. They’re criminals.
I have a feeling. Everything is gonna be alright, no matter what they tell us.
But..that’s just me.
Calling it an early nite!! Sleep well when you get there Pups!!
nite nahant
G’ nite nahant
g’nite nahant

Wow! A very strange place.
I have mixed feelings tonight. I’m pleased that Obama is doing well across the country. At the same time Palin and McCain seem intent on destroying the social discourse that should be occurring…and helping the country by unifying us behind the next President. The tasks will be immense…but I think they actually WANT to bring the country down IF they can’t have it for themselves.
From Dana Milbank of the Washington Post
One responded to Palin’s call of what Obama’s ties to Ayers made him “Terrorist”…and another screamed “Shoot him!”
Wow.. these guys must be really bad if our DOJ is prosecuting them.
U.S. Security Firm Indicted for Fraud in Afghanistan
snip
That doesn’t bode well, altho, I saw a report earlier saying that the Taliban have renounced AQ… How credible it is is yet to be seen…
Now, how about some poetic justice…
Yes, the country will pay a price for the lack of discourse. And I’m about to add some of my own, far below the normal character of your comments thus far, cinnamonape.
Fuck John McCain and Fuck Sarah Palin.
They did this, and thay will continue to do this, and it will continue to reflect badly on them.
And when this crew is out, the country will look around and wonder where all the incompetence and the incompetents went. And breathe again.
And once again… no arrests were made.
LOL.. Why does Dylan’s If you’ve got nothing, you’ve got nothing to lose, come to mind.
Packyourbagsistan.

Howie has a killer new video, all Mavericky and stuff.
Please digg it, so more people can see it.
Please watch your language, Rich “Fap-Fap” Lowry might be a lurkin’ and a wankin’.

This goes out to all the Obama progressives who think he’s sold us down the river somehow and now yer gonna browbeat and whine and vote for Nader or someone cuz somehow YOUR moral compass is more rightous than the reality we are in.
I’m NOT singling you out ES, you just gave me the door to stroll thru with the following, and I THANK you for that! ;-)
In war there are often many battles.
In all battles, many shots are usually fired.
Sometimes, ya just gotta fire a shot now and then to let them know yer still here.
In the scheme of the campaign, that’s why Obama’s side did this vid.
It’s a shot. Across the bow, across the trenches, into the night.
Just a shot.
To keep them occupied, so they have to spend money to respond.
They are broke, and down to LCD rampaging.
They are ‘cratered’, as it were. Or cratering. *G*
See the big pic.
See polls, that are likely off by 10% or MORE still, and all in favor of Obama. Should be a 20%/point lead by now (polls are bought and paid for to generate media and ad dollars). Polls are WRONG, so wrong . . . IMHO.
See electoral polls that have McCain/Palin under 200 votes (LOSE!).
See the ground game of Obama that’s not even ACCOUNTED FOR, by MSM, or pollsters.
Think, SLAUGHTER!!!
Think, House and Senate . . . GAINS!
Never mind the little shots, they all got a purpose, but that purpose ain’t for those of us on the same side to chide . . . show a little support hosses and hossettes . . . smile and wave to the crowd till the man’s elected. Gloat to know yer on the winning side, and this is ONLY the first step in a LONG process to reclaim what we’ve lost as we slept for 30 or more years!
THEN, we sharpen our pens and knives, and move on to the next step in reclaiming what we lost. And we never sleep again . . . and we teach the next generation not to sleep, like we did.
SOMEONE, a brilliant someone, last night said that Uncle Ho wove and fought for 60 years to lead his people . . . . .
Methinks there’s a lot to learn in that kind of personal commitment to cause.
We need to commit to cause . . . and not worry about a shot, or even a battle.
The war is bigger than that, and it’s bigger than us. It’s a long war.
Commit to it. Or lose . . . ;-)
Reversal of Fortune
Here is an easy read to understanding the economy and what options we are left with by Bushco or… a good reason to impeach the administration.
The Mcnutjob slime machine IS Rove, and the neocons.
Like rust, they never sleep. *G*
Well, my dinner that I prepared for my Sweetie on our 18th anniversary is fini…! I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! I look forward to ‘dessert’… Aloha Oe!!!
That’s brilliant.
Enjoy, CT.
I think I just boosted jacqrat’s oxdown diary to no. 1 on the charts
Just tracked down Milbank’s entire piece; wonder how the media will feel being threatened with physical violence……like us leftie radicals?
Interesting, very, very interesting.
So, I assume they will go back to Afghanistan.
Whose border, is, well, you can see it from Yusef’s house. /snark
So, I ask, stroking my chin thoughtfully, I guess they’ll be REAL pissed off.
And fair game for Talibani recruitment. And forages in Afghanistan. Against USA/NATO.
Interesting . . . . yet another failed policy doomed from the beginning to ferment and forment more recruits for terror based (freedom fighter) activities against our GWOT.
Nice work, USA/Pakistan. ‘Kin BRILLIANT!
We COULDA gone in with food, money and Paki Troops to elevate their lives and FIGHT the bad guys on their own turf. Schools not madrasses . . . . civilian projects, with military protection.
Pinches self, realizes he’s dreaming, snaps out of it.
MORE MERLOT, DAMMIT! And tell the band to stop playing all them sad songs!
Sighs.
aloha ct
they ain’t gonna like it that’s for sure
i wanna see them refuse to cover her for the obvious safety reasons and have their news organizations back them up.
I tried to Digg it using the digg button link, but it didn’t do anything. Your link worked, however. Thanks, neuro.;)
I would like to see more media coverage of the Palin campaign’s War on Media Coverage.
happy to be of service and support a fellow late late niter :)
“At the same time Palin and McCain seem intent on destroying the social discourse that should be occurring”
I WANT to say, that’s a bit pollyannaesque to presume . . .
Nothing happens cuz it SHOULD be happening . . . and social discourse is NOT something we’re ever likely to see except in the historical annals of the 18th Century British Empire on PBS.
This is a war. It’s not a civil phrellin debate and hasn’t been for 30 years or more.
It’s about either THEM, or US, getting out of this alive.
And if it’s us, we have a future as a species, if it’s them, we’re all doomed in USA to less and less year by year. Not a place you’ll want the next generation to have to come to. And many of us will die of lack of medical care, no housing, lack of food, incarceration, and worse.
It’s a war for what YOU and progressives and moderates and HUMANS who believe in a QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL, need to be fighting.
And if you don’t fight, with all you have, to elect Obama, and know that they will try and draw blood, and you’ll have to FIGHT maybe, somehow . . . . in SOME fashion for what you believe in . . . if you DON’T fight, you’ll lose.
Cuz they is nasty, and want you either neutered somehow or just plain dead.
And they are a minority. If you don’t fight, a minority is gonna take you to your grave, one way or another.
Cuz it’s a war.
Grok?
Provide food and medicine? Heck all we had to do was NOT bomb Pakistan and they would have kept 50k or more refugees a while longer.
Brother, can you spare a bit of that Merlot? *g*
hopeful that piece was the test piece and if dana don’t get fired, etc., then others can report is also and get the word out.
mccain/palin – too dangerous
Obama’s campaign strategy;
Move to the center and collect the John Dean, Goldwater Republican base. Enough to cut out what would be some of McCain’s voters. Take away 5% and gain 10% difference.
Is that far fetched?
ok, pups, that’s it for me tonight. put up some pictures at my place for those interested. g’nite all.
nite suz
Yay, photo’s.. rest well Suz.
Has milbank’s buddy KO picked up on this theme?
She is a fucking menace. I’d like to see someone file suit against her for inciting violence against reporters.
Nite Suz.
I’d like to see someone file suit against her for inciting violence against dems and their candidates….and let the forkin’ useless reporters look out for their own worthless @sses! :-(
Didn’t Dana and KO have a falling out?
@ kos
KO & Dana part ways…
I don’t know, did they?
Oh, LOL.
Time for some shut eye in casa de eureka
G’ night fabulous firedogs
Missed that bit of news…….don’t miss milbank. :-)
Wonder what it would take to get Rachel to send buchanan on a voyage to nowhere? Slept thru’ her first run tonight but caught the early a.m. repeat. If his blood pressure matches his verbosity, he’s a heart attack looking for a place to happen.
Sweet dreams ES & thanks for another memorable late late nite, as ever. ;~D
As far as the heart attack, I would never, ever wish something like that on a fellow human being.
That said, Pat seems to be paddling furiously for GooperShores after his brief trip to reality, pre-VP debate. There is nothing for a Conservative™ on our side of the water (WingNut-Welfare is screened at customs and turned over to the ACLU).
But seriously, if Pat has to go – and he chooses to be there I guess, I’m glad it’s beside someone who drills him as regularly as Rachel does. She is the perfect antidote to his load. I kind of like them together.
now that explains a lot. thanaks!
OK, I lied. Nancy and Harry and Rahm and Steny cut it up amongst themselves. And over here, it’s more accurately named: the treasury.
hey selise
Certainly not, and neither would I. Was merely observing that the way he gets worked up cannot be beneficial healthwise…….but then, same could be said for people like o’reilly or limpers.
i forgot snark tag. my bad.
He does get pretty riled. And as little respect as I have for his views, he’s no dunce. He knows the score, and unless we are catastrophically wrong, his team is going to take the pounding of a generation at the polls. I don’t see an upside for him to be this loutish about her.
His argument seems to be that she excited the party like no other candidate has, and although it may not be enough, it is pretty good. He may be correct, but I don’t think that is anything to shout about.
random q – is there any residual doubt that pelosi is not on our side?
I was willing to hold a very dim hope, until we found that she had sat in on the Gang of 8 meetings, where interrogation methods and surveillance means were discussed, and she was opaque about it.
I admit to hoping that she was overmatched by BlueDogs and Hoyer, as opposed to weak, complicit, greedy, craven. Clearly, that was wrong.
nothing wrong with hoping.
just was wondering if we were on the same page now wrt our speaker.
next random q – obama?
“Loutish” is the most polite term that could be applied to him. *g*
Wrt to results of the election, I . will . not . allow . myself to hope…….it’s still too many days (and events) away. But, if it should go well, it will be a great pleasure to watch all their heads explode (metaphorically, of course) in the hours and days after the fact.
Attaturk is upstairs!
I’m sorry

Here’s where we will probably tend to part ways.
Obama is no prize as a “Progressive” candidate.
He drove me crazy by suggesting that we should over-fund “Faith-Based” initiatives.
He clearly fucked us on FISA.
His taking a pass on the bailout was the latest letdown, almost predictable after the string of earlier policy disappointments.
And more. A lot more.
And in every case, as a Presidential candidate, I don’t see him having a wide choice. I strongly believe that prior to gaining the nomination, any deviation from the Dem Congressional line would have ended his candidacy. He needs these people behind him, and publicly excoriating them for their extraordinary complicity with Republicans would have simply ended him – as a Presidential candidate and as a Senator. Same deal in the general, as the Dems either cooperate or lose. Yeah, it’s not our dream of “Better Democrats,” but it is not as bad as the alternative.
And I am certain he will not be the bitterly partisan Leftist President i want, and I suspect that his willingness to reach across the aisle will be more like a reach-around.
But selise – there is John McCain. I have absolutely no doubt that McCain will make folks like Phil Gramm and Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham and other really, really terrible people, his guideposts. Obama – he could try eally hard and not find the same stripe of miscreant that McCain has in mind.
McCain completely lacks a moral center – of this I am convinced. Obama – not sure, but it’s admittedly a bet.
McCain is a disaster, period. Period.
That isn’t the choice any of us want, and it is a very long way from what we need. But it is what we have. As much as I would like to be ‘for’ something and someone, we are not there. I have to choose the political reality that we are better off being ‘against’ something, and someone.
I don’t get the same sense of Obama that get from Nancy. I have lived in her Congressional district, and I live on its edge right now. I have known of this woman for as long as I can remember.
But it’s still a bet.
nite pups
newt – my question was not about mccain. i’m pretty sure we agree on him. seems strange to me, and you are by no means the first to do it, that when i ask about obama people talk about mccain. oh, well. this note is just in case you stop by later you will know i saw your response. catch you in the threads….
why the dog gone it not post this BEFORE they played Iota last night. And also, they are really good also. However, if this is yr cup of mocha, go to CWA Headquarters on Friday night for the “Farewell to the Thief” release show (see below).
I would have gone to see them play and not go hunt lawyer w/ the VP, which, since, also, that in the Washington area, don’t you know, has got many lawyer and WY doesn’t and that is the only reason he came back here to DC anyway and not to take away our rights and of course not to give his company a “hand-up” (not a hand out like the communist in NOVA say) also.
Friday, October 10 at 8 PM in Washington, DC
Anne Feeney, George Mann, Julius Margolin, The DC Labor Chorus, Chris Chandler, Anne Hills.
A concert to celebrate the release of “Farewell to the Thief!”
Communications Workers of America Headquarters
501 3rd Street NW, Ground Floor conference center.
Admission $12– no one turned away for lack of funds! A great show, the first of our CD release parties/concerts featuring artists from the “Hail to the Thief!” CD series.
I think my responses about Obama are pretty clear in that comment.
But unfortunately, his opponent makes that nearly a side issue – whether Obama is ‘on our side.”
