So the House "Leadership" is on TeeVee giving their self-congratulatory speeches after caving in once again to Preznit Laffer Curve and handing over a minimum of $700 Billion Dollars to Wall Street to pay for his deregulatory orgy of free marketeering.
The bill passed because the Republicans once again rolled the "Leadership" into enacting tax-cuts along with the legislation. I have not heard a word that they repealed Gramm-Leach-Bliley and reinstated Glass-Stegall, which would have marked the beginning of true reform; had they done that I doubt the republican caucus would have gone along with passage of this late-term abortion.
We are a nation in debt to virtually every country in the world that has the means to lend us money to finance our spending. Republicans (or as I call them "the Credit Card Conservatives™) have for years pushed the less-taxation mantra and agenda, but have not managed to stop spending on programs that are giveaways to their supporters and lobbyists to whose teats they are attached (and no, it’s not just republicans who fit into that category).
We have borrowed to finance the most expensive war in the history of our republic, we have stripped revenue from our government because republicans and blue-dog democrats have convinced Americans that the men and women who work in our government who are not members of the military or directly support the military are evil and should lose their jobs because they are supernumerary to our Republic.
The expression used so blithely by Governator GILF is "government is the problem", a quote direct from the Gipper’s Gravesite and perhaps the most direct expression of the contempt the republican party holds our for the government and the people who "man" it. Amazing.
The glad-handing glibness of the "Leadership" over giving in to the republicans and Beloved Glorious Leader makes me want to puke. I will be happy to ask for, even demand a tax-cut on the day the budget is balanced, the debt is paid and employment is a approaching 100%, but until then we all need to pay the freight for the crappy policies, lack of leadership and foresight that has been evident for eight years and even though I don’t make a ton of money I was willing to contribute my share to our government as the price of citizenship, now not so much… Nothing is free unless you’re a Republican, I guess.

I know this is OT .. but I ask everyone to Digg this:

Thanks for this post Jo, and please excuse our enthusiastic commenter above.
Republicans are freeloaders. They always have been. They run up the credit card every time they have a chance and they never want to pay the bills. They want to let business throw a big party that trashes the whole place and then have someone else clean up the mess.
Someone needs to start calling them deadbeats because that’s what most of them are. If America were a house and they were a family member, they would have been thrown out on their asses a long time ago.
Egregious:
Sorry about that. I can’t help making fun of Lowry.
Jo is right. We should start calling Republicans/Conservatives “Credit Card Republicans/Conservatives”. A great line.
When the aristocrats say government is the problem — they’re right! Government is their problem.
Okay. The bailout passed. Now let’s pay for it, by raising taxes on the very people who caused the crisis and will benefit from the cure.
I think that’s irrelevant since there are no investment banks left.
Few members of Congress and fewer media pundits wanted to go near the truth of the bailout matter. The public was kept out of the loop, even though we have to pay for it. There were many other ways to solve the problem. There were ways to prevent this same sham from happening again. None of these were instituted. Paulson will have all the money spent in a matter weeks. They will need more in a matter of weeks.
I am disgusted with Obama and Congress for pulling this horrific stunt on us.
Bushco Two trillion dollar deficit to be blamed on Democrats.
There we go, it’s Obama’s fault. Keep up the drumbeat.
eCAHN – Someone mentioned in EW’s Palin post that somehow something called the Stock Injection Plan got sneaked into the Senate Bailout Bill, which was what got voted on in the House. Can you tell me what that is?
I am completely unaware of that. I’ll hunt around a bit.
While Congress has been debating the Paulson plan, there is another financial rescue option that many economists prefer. Most economists whom Davidson and colleague Alex Blumberg have spoken with say a stock-injection plan is clearly better.
Instead of just taking toxic assets off of banks’ books, the U.S. government would directly inject capital into ailing firms. In return, the government — and taxpayers — would get an ownership share in the firms equal to the amount of their investment. “The taxpayers, the government become stockholders and owners of the banks,” Davidson says.
How is that better? First of all, it’s simply easier, because it avoids trying to find the right price for mortgage-backed securities whose value is impossible to pin down at the moment, Davidson explains. If you give $10 billion to a bank, you get a $10 billion share.
O/T Palin is supposed to be here in Carson (right outside of Los angeles) but not a mention in the LA times nor on the local news. I guess because both baseball teams have upcoming games, they could care less
How’s the surf at Manhattan?
ah they are going to be at the tennis stadium. Wonder if they will fill the 13,000 seats.
Seeing how there are 100 billion people in greater LA they ought to be able to.
LOL i don’t know. I live further south but the water over here is calm (as usual)
You’re in Long Beach right?
Only if the orange county folks venture down to oh noes…LA!!!!
Carson is a university town that is 90% minority. LOL we were thinking of going to register voters but have decided against it. someting about being that close to evil makes my skin crawl
in Palos Verdes –which is over the bridge from Long Beach
Here’s the first thing I found. It seems to be the way the U.S. gets some equity ownership in the financial corps with toxic assets. I’d not previously heard it called “stock injection.”

Now that story was written today so it seems like it was not part of the final plan.
I’m down, South Bay Surfers rule. My mom lived right next to De Lamo and my sis lives in Hawthorne.
Hold the FUCKING PHONE! 73%, almost 3/4 of the DINO’s signed up to this piece of crap while 46% of the Rethugs did! Nancy girl was out there with her poms poms along with Hoyer and Emanuel flogging the bill. Our “Peoples House” doesn’t exist, sold to the highest bidder. Blue America needs to resight on these closet DLCers also!
How come you’re FB “add as friend ” button doesn’t work?
cool Del Amo Mall monstrosity is about 20 minutes down from where I am. I love it here. Up here, you forget that you are in the city. but it is a pain in the ass to have to come down the hill to go grocery shopping, go to the movies, etc. but at least we saw the whales migrating this year. it was awesome
It’s Obama’s fault.
It doesn’t? Let me check
My brother’s wedding reception was in that cool old place that looks (looked) down on the South Bay.
As Chris Floyd pointed out, http://www.chris-floyd.com “the “Extortion Bill” — is already law, thanks to the Democrats in Congress, and to Barack Obama, who spent the day working the phones and twisting arms to make sure the $700 billion bonanza for the filthy rich passed without any more of the hiccups that held it up earlier this week.
The plan that Obama made his own — despite its origins in the poison kitchen of the Bush White House — is far worse than the version voted down on Monday.”
The Democrats OWN this theft and they didn’t HAVE to, why is that? Because they’re all paid whores as well. Congress may as well pack their briefcases and go home, having abrogated their function to the Chimperor and consort Paulson, they no longer represent “we, the people”.
Elect McCain!
the glass church? the way farer chapel?
The Gipper mythos continues to plague us. Knock down that great rethuglican deity, and the party appears as it is: a bunch of thugs, criminals, lunatic fringe extremist, and opportunists of the worst sort . I never liked Raygun, not even when I was a kid.
what does it say when you try to add me as a friend?
That was the wedding, the reception was in some cool old place that had 4 or 5 separate buildings where tables were set up.
It’s greyed out which normally indicates it’s disabled. Try mine.
Well yeah, the democratic party needs some serious reform as well.
NO WAY! I was pointing out that we were betrayed by our own party, nothing more.
You may have blocked me when I was ranting!
My reply was to raven who said “Elect McCain!”
Raven was being provacative?
Yea, and that type of comment is steady steady here. What a fucking news flash, the Democrats aren’t really “progressive.
it is hanging lettin gme sign on. ahhh technology
possibly…. ;)
So how does that help us in 6 months or a year when the Friedmanistas scream bloody murder that the US is now socialist and we should sell this stock; but the fox guarding the henhouse (Paulson) sells it to his buddies at Goldman Sachs or wherever for 20 cents on the dollar?
Every time I am here and Obama gets hammered for this vote I intend to say something. (Until Christy tells me not to).
No, I don’t block people.
Seems like the logon gods don’t want me to sign in at the moment.
Hey I was not the one going around saying back during the primaries that our two frontrunners were progressives. Maybe you weren’t either. But plenty were. How many were fooled?
He was NEVER a progressive. He would have never been nominated if he were.
Mark Zandi’s on cspan2 talking about subprime crisis.
It let me finally sign in. I have an add friend pending from you so I will approve it ad all should be well
Obama should come out with a 2.0 Recovery Plan
http://www.crooksandliars.com/
Raven, you are correct that there were better plans. For more info -and I know I’m anything but your favorite person- you might want to check the diary I posted today.
I used to live in Torrance; Palos Verde was at that time -1980’s- a definitely well to do community, anything but ‘middle class’. No idea what it is now but given the beautiful setting, hard to believe it’s gone ‘downhill’.
And the surf in SD is small; 1/2 ft to 2 ft. We’re hoping it rains because it is sorely needed.
My wife and I wanted Dennis Kucinich, that worked out well…
ok Raven, your added as a friend
Here’s what kills me. 31 days from the election and some people here are just freaking out because he voted fro this thing. Mc Cain is cranking it up to paint him as part of the fucking Bader-Meinhoff Gang and the wisdom is that he should have voted no to make a point. Sure.
There is Rancho Palos verdes, Palos Verdes Extates and Rolling Hills. The mini monster mansions are in Rancho and the uber rich are over in Rolling hills. We’re in Pv estates where most of the homes are old, medium size but have kick ass views of the ocean *g*
To correct you, it is middle class up here but if you live in SoCal, middle class here at the same as middle class in middle america
Yea, this was 20 years ago, they proly flattened it.
should read ‘ ain’t the same as middle class in mid america’ higher cost of living here. if we were rich, we’d be over in Rolling Hills
Hey, take all this shot with a grain of salt, it’s stupid blog. (not yours)
surprisingly not where we are. The way the lots are cut, you can’t really make the houses bigger (backyards are partly cliffs) so you end up with a rather large courtyard up front and enough backyard to have a pool and patio, a lil flower bed and some trees and the cliffs
shit
I thought Biden spelled out McCain’s “healthcare plan” pretty well. People will get 5K instead of the 12k employers give. That should be scary enough. Mussolini style f*cism v. “moderate” clinton like Democrat.
Still, I have problems with the “moderates.” Doesn’t mean I’ll vote Mussolini.
Not that there arent rich folks here but they would not be in the area I live in
Book Salon upstairs with The Guantanamo Files
OK, I’m done
have some garden work and housework
peace out
Understood; still hope that people learn more than what the politicos and mass media are spewing(which is why I posted the diary); more I learn about Frank and Schumer the more I want them gone.
Give me more legislators like Kaptur,McDermott, Feingold and Sanders.
I think we are voices crying the wilderness ! I am so tired of this hand wringing. It’s our party, it’s our country, it’s Obama. Get over it, folks.
i like this idea.
((twain))
Referring to Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin accused Obama of associating “with terrorists who targeted their own country.”
Speaking at a fund-raising event in Colorado Saturday, Palin said: “This is not a man who sees America as you and I do – as the greatest force for good in the world,” Palin said, according to a statement released by the McCain-Palin campaign. “This is someone who sees American as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.”
Putting people who believe that “the government is always the problem” in charge of the government is the surest way to make it so.
All great nations eventually fall. The Republicans and their ideological free market allies in the Democratic Party have just speeded up that process. For middle class and working Americans they have a future where there sons and daughters can join the military to insure that resources will always be available to the lavish lifestyle of the plutocracy. Some families in the former middle class may well have their daughters, sisters and even mothers working in the porn industry. How long before McDonalds, Burger King, Wal-Mart et al begin building barracks for their employees? Americans have allowed their civil liberties to be eroded over the last eight years and now it would seem they have allowed themselves to become slaves to the plutocracy. No slave rebellion looms on the horizon, the plutocrats can breath easy and give one another high fives.
If the plutocrats win then the planet becomes more toxic and civilization begins to fall apart. Funny. They think they are so important and smart and all they have done is hastened the decline of the human beast. It will be painful. And all so unnecessary. Or perhaps this is how overpopulation takes care of itself. Plutocrats indeed.
You think Exxon/mobil or Haliburton is in debt?
