Nooner, who is still sore from the wingnut flogging she endured over telling the truth about Palin, writes today (emphasis mine):
I find obnoxious the political game in which if you expressed doubts about the vice presidential nominee, or criticized her, you were treated as if you were knocking the real America—small towns, sound values.
"It's time that normal Joe Six-Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency," Mrs. Palin told talk-show host Hugh Hewitt...
I'm not sure the McCain campaign is aware of it—it's possible they are—but this is subtly divisive.
So true. This divisiveness has to stop.
American journalists still fear that, being called biased in favor of America. So do intellectuals, academics, local clever people who talk loudly in restaurants, and leftist mandarins of Washington, Los Angeles, New York, and other cities. For all cities have them.
But there was always another America, and boy has it endured. It just won a war. Its newest generation is rising, and its members are impressive. They came from a bigger America and a realer one--a healthy and vibrant place full of religious feeling and cultural energy and Bible study and garage bands and sports-love and mom-love and sophistication and normality.
It is important who he is. George W. Bush is an American of the big and real America.
And there you have it.
Just like Kathleen Parker.

Stop picking on fruit flys!!
Lotsa fruit fly fans in the audience today I see.
huhhhhh?
repiglicans don’t want anyone from cities to vote for them?
she’s gone off her med(flie)s again
wow. just unreal
If I hear Joe Six-pack one more time from these morons I’ll start screaming and won’t be able to stop.
It is so condescending - they might as well say “here’s to all the rednecks” which is a term I also find offensive.
Goodness that hurt reading those essays. The stupid seeps through, just like heavy metal poisoning.
“President Bush is from the Big and Real America”. Oy!
((Twain))
Lady Rotheschild called them rednecks and she is a McCain supporter *g*
She’s a smart one alright….
“
He believes in America’s historic insistence on humanity and not inhumanity in war, and he appears to have internalized the old saying that “one man with courage is a majority.”
Ummmm….Unitary Executive, torturing, domestic spying, economy terrorizing Dictator!!!
San Fran, LA, NY, DC = not America.
lol guess that means I’m not american
l.a. resident = not american = furriner
Thank doG I live in Texas and drink beer. To bad for me the name is not Joe. Thanks to you and selise for keeping up with the fuck america vote.
It sounds better than “dumber thans dirt and damn proud of it”
Peggy Noonan Has The Self-Awareness Of A Fruit Fly”
aw, give her a break.
That still puts her light years ahead of the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
And House democrats.
You forgot NOLA
Joe Sixpack is code for white male bigot.
The current resident of 1600 is perfectly self-aware as only a sociopath can be. The problem there is the total disregard for others.
Jon Stewart said “shit” to Peggy Noonan when she appeared on his show, right after she came on stage and sat down. Nooners never really settled in after that, “just here to promote my book.” She looked like she wanted to wash Jon’s mouth out with soap.
I bet she whisper-swears to herself after her third scotch-and-soda of each day.
Our national discourse is broken.
Peggy Noonan is happy that Joe sixpack is represented in the VP spot. Is Joe sixpack the politically correct term for redneck now? So, now Nascar Dad, Hockey Mom and Soccer Mom can all be grouped in to Joe Sixpack.
The J of Today
It is important who he is. George W. Bush is an American of the big and real America
Dear Peggy,
You need a new role model. And its not Palin.
Your Sincerely
A City Dweller.
Excuse me, am I confused or did Peggy Noonan not sit with Mike Murphy on MSNBC as say that Palin would be the death of the McCain candidacy and that she didn’t know what he was thinking? Now, all cozied up, wrapped in a flag, she is harkening back to an America that hasn’t been around since the eighties. She must really need to sell that book she was hawking on the Joh Stewart Show.
What do you have against fruit flies? I think rocks have more self awareness.
I’ve got a tomato that’s just about ready for you fruitfly lovers. Fascinating! Oughtta be a law…. Prolly will be if Sarah has her way …
Perhaps Nooner is giving Jon Stewart the middle finger after his interview with her. He specifically took on the “small town USA” mythology of real America by asking “does that mean NY isn’t American? New York is a bunch of small towns all stacked on top of each other in a single building.”
Interesting Joe Sixpack analysis from the year 2000:
http://www.businessweek.com/20.....691075.htm
Goopers don’t ‘wake-up’ because they’ve finally thought something through - hell no, they ’see the light’ when they step on rakes, like the Nooner.
She’s harkening back to the 50s which were not at all like she thinks of it. Back then she wouldn’t have been on tv blathering ’cause women were not considered smart enough for things like that. They were only allowed to do commercials opening refrigerator doors.
Was Peggy channeling Monty Python, or cribbing from them?:
“Some people have made the mistake of seeing Shunt’s work as a load of rubbish about railway timetables, but clever people like me who talk loudly in restaurants see this as a deliberate ambiguity, a plea for understanding in a mechanised mansion.”
“President Bush is from the Big and Real America”.
Yes, I know that America. It’s the America of the private boarding school, of being a legacy at Yale, of getting into Harvard Business School by the skin of one’s teeth. It’s the real America of a family compound at Kennebunkport, Maine and post-college jobs provided by rich family friends. Ah, yes, Joe Sixpack can truly identify with all that. Joe is probably dwelling on that as he drives to Walmart or Costco to save a few bucks on the weekly grocery bill, or rents a movie to save a couple of bucks toward a kid’s tuition at the Junior College.
It’s so nice to be talked down to and manipulated, Peggy.
haha. Raven told me the other day that his racist buddies would not vote for Palin. I think he said they’re going to vote Obama.
Pretty bad when you lose the racist vote to a black guy.
Peggy however hangs with real America too drinking Bud in the garage in a blizzard because she does not want to smoke in the house. (Houses that smell like Smoke sell for much lower prices.)
The Bankers Peggy really hangs with told regular America refinance now don’t worry about the rates resetting the housing market is going up so fast that when the rates reset you will be able to refinance again because the value of your house will have gone up so much.
Trust me I’m a banker my job is to approve home loans I have never seen a market like this.
I bet magical thinkers who wanted to believe fell for this line at higher rates per capita in the bible belt states and red states with lower education levels.
Just what are all the bible belt states does anyone know?
Boy….passing that bill sure made the stock market rally…
It is falling…
Down from plus 250 to -20 and falling…
Way to go chumps.
lol. so true. hope you’ve caught Mad Men on AMC. really skewers all the 50s/early 60s stuff.
I think it has been nuked.
Looks like something i saw once on I Love Lucy:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/m.....09001a.jpg
Cities Code Dark People Reagen’s imaginary Chicago Welfare Queen driving a Caddy buying Steak, Ronnie only said such lines away from Cities. The press didn’t report this to I think until after the election, I was very young then I’m not sure.
The net makes such lies impossible today.
Another factor that impacted this foreclosure blitz has to do with people losing their jobs due to companies closing and/or going overseas in the last few years.
WTF? What war did we just win? Huh?
o/t someone telling me that Palin’s job is to energize the base. I don’t think it means to him what it means to Palin. Anyway, it matters MORE to mccain’s campaign who he picked for veep since he’s so old. pure and simple.
Yeah when does Redneck equal stupid!
the war against the middle class.
Oh this takes me back. Decades ago. School quality vs. State House of Rep. Machine 101. “Stop causing trouble. Why do you want to ruin our perfect world?”
Dang. Stayed in the fray till the system was proven rotten all the way to the tipsytop halls of power in the state capitol. Went down in flames, campaigning for the local levy, nothing else. Without support, school wasn’t school.
s’cuse please. I hear my country calling. No, actually, it’s the planet.
At least we can be grateful that Peggers isn’t fellating St. Ronnie’s embalmed member in this column. I, for one, am grateful for small mercies.
I bet she drinks cough medicine
McPalin is a danger because McCain’s so old and so cancerous. Even the true believer Republics have to see that she cannot be allowed to be in office.
ack. that’s the Palin Debate Performance standard of expectation all right. Yes, nooner did well.
so’s nascardad
Noonan blows dead goats.
exactly exactly exactly.
this palin woman has me talking to myself. Just hoping my fellow americans don’t buy the act again. I’m just hoping that Bush ruined it for all faux folksy folks forever.
New Ian post on the bailout.
Real Good Question?
Buy on the rumor, sell on the news.
you’re o.k. I talk to our dragonflies. ;->
…and haaaakey maaaaaammmm…
Then I guess it will be okay with them if we leave Iraq, since we “won” and all.
Please see my #44.
Basically the old Confederate states/territories.
I wonder what numbers a poll on that question would get. Dem or GOP
Is one of the reasons that you can’t vote McCain is because you worry about McCain’s health and a President Palin?
Bush and Paulson look giddy.
“But there was always another America, and boy has it endured.”
And just where is this mythical place with rainbows and unicorns and pixie dust? The only America I know, and have ever known, is a big messy place full of crooked politicians, dysfunctional families, and acres of concrete and smokestacks. But I do so love all of it.
Especially the garage bands.
whoops wrong thread. meant for ian’s post.
Reality check for those that hopefully counting the votes.
“We The People” are not part of government.
You are dreaming if you think the bully doesn’t rule. The market is virtually at what it started out this morning. They knew the Bailout vote was a done deal.Come on Pups get real.
The market is reacting to the reality…their is no safe haven for capital. The economy is so full of rot they can’t find a good spot. We are in a deep mean recession like or not. Paulson is dealing to his friends at Bushco.
The hedge funds are going to be hammered and that is huge. Any bets? Didn’t think so.
More folks from the middle class will join the 50 million Americans already in the poverty level. Food banks are overwhelmed. College grads will struggle to pay the huge loans. Home values continue to plummet dragging down equities and credit. All the wealthfare Uncle Sam can muster is not enough to change what took 3 decades to destroy.
It is time for a real recovery plan.
Wake up America!
BTW I wanted to pass this on but couldn’t find the time or the thread to put it in. But with the release of today’s job numbers, creation of jobs in 7 3/4 years of Bush fell below 5 million to 4,849,000. Clinton created 22,760,000 in his 8 years. So Bush’s record of job creation is 21.3% that of Clinton.
Clinton was actually able to increase manufacturing jobs modestly by 237,000. Bush OTOH has managed to lose 3,734,000 of these higher paying jobs and they now comprise only 9.74% of the work force down from 12.92% in January 2001.
Whenever Palin says that she and McCain want to create jobs, the numbers speak for themselves. Republicans are an unremitting, relentless disaster when it comes to creating them.
OT:
Palin just got the news this AM that they were pulling out of Michigan. Politico Story
From the article:
“The Alaska governor first heard the news this morning and fired off a quick e-mail to campaign officials expressing her displeasure with the move.
“Oh c’mon, do we have to?” Palin said she wrote.”
I have no words……
Noonan is as undisciplined and meandering in her writing as Palin is in her speaking. Read the entire piece and see if you can find any cohesive outline to it. She goes from Palin to the bailout bill to loss of confidence in government to Bush to Reagan to McCain to Tina Fey. And none of it accomplished with any sense of transition or hint of unified composition. Just like Palin, Noonan seems to grab at whatever bubble happens to be floating behind her eyes and simply incorporates it into her spiel.
Peggy Noonan is the post-menapausal Sarah Palin.
Oh, she was terrible on TV last night, gushing that “Palin absolutely KILLED!”
She is terrified that she botched it big time by criticizing Palin. A righteous concern with her livelihood appears to have made her a post-debate convert!
DO YOU GUYS SEE WHAT MAKES DEMOCRATS TRULY THE GREAT ONES??
I mean seriously - do your sees the love -and the humor??
I mean, to compare Peggy Noonans’s brain to that of a fruit fly ..is ..is sheer brilliance!
Have your ever heard a real joke or true witiicism out of anyone on the Right?
Anyone?? wtf Todd, amiright??
Ms. Noonan shouldn’t be recruiting ‘leftist big-city mandarins’ like Stewart to pimp her book then. She can come over to my little town in Idaho. I’ll giver her a ‘realer’ view of ‘realer America’. Even we feel sorry for the people of Wasilla, Alaska and Crawford, Texas.
and again, Jon Stewart gives another Republican a platform to appear likable and normal to people who don’t know that she was Reagan’s speechwriter.
Did I actually hear McPalin talk about reaching across the aisle to the other side up in Alaska last night?
How come no one asked her about trying to shut down the Troopergate investigation?
The last time I heard someone talking about reaching across the aisle as governor of some right wing state I had to declare bankruptcy and I didn’t even get a reach around.
George W is not my ideal of an American. He loves him some war way too much….the City on the Hill is generally thought to be one of peace and inspiration. He has never met peace and inspiration. Glad she has such high ideals.
I am proudly a part of the small and fake America, I would conclude.
Every time I see Nooner stick her nose in the air and begin to pontificate I want to retch.
Oh, I’m sorry, where are my manners…
Evenin’ Dawgs!
