Worse yet, if bankers are no longer marking to market, how is Hank Paulson’s buying of their junk mortgages going to help? Since they no longer have to mark to market, all of their good assets will be suspect. “How do we know it isn’t fantasy-priced junk?” Getting rid of mark-to-market valuation seems to make the whole rationale for the bailout a joke.

My youngest bought a BlueRay PS3 and the quality of the picture on a 1080 HD TV is amazing! The detail you can see in a movie is like night and day!! Actors have to make sure all their blemishes are completely covered!

I would love to discuss that in a place where folks wouldn’t be so easily offended by such a discussion. Unless Obama has a reasonable chance of winning AR, and I don’t think he does at this point. A protest vote there (McKinney or Nader) may be best on my part. Supreme Court to hear Troopergate appeal

…The action comes the day after Anchorage Superior Court Judge Peter Michalski threw out their lawsuit attempting to halt the Legislature’s investigation of what’s known as Troopergate. The suit was filed on behalf of a group of Republican state legislators who oppose the investigation.

In a written order issued about 4:30 p.m. today, the Supreme Court said it would hear oral arguments on the appeal at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and agreed to rule by the end of the next Thursday.

The urgency on timing is because Steve Branchflower, the investigator hired by the Legislative Council, is set to release his report next Friday. Branchflower is looking into Palin’s dismissal of her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, and whether she improperly pressured him to fire a state trooper divorced from her sister.

Texas-based Liberty Legal Institute and Anchorage attorney Kevin Clarkson, representing the group of anti-investigation legislators, filed the emergency appeal.

Best ever was the Inn at Cabbage Key, Mary Roberts Reinhart’s old house and island. Laid back place. Stayed up one night with kids on staff hunting ghosts. No luck, but it was a hoot.

A galaxy picture was posted from a Southweat site with a ruins in fore ground and the milkyway in the main part of the photo. The perspective of scale was just stunning to think how very small our habitat is.

I remember some hack economists telling me that it WASN’T FDR’s work programs that saved the economy but rather war spending. I remember during Gulf war 1 that economists were surprised that the economy went down and led to Bush 1’s defeat.
58% during peace time is actually less than 56% during wartime 2% does not seem like much but with the magic of compound interest it adds up.

During the war he pushed for even higher income tax rates for individuals (reaching a marginal tax rate of 91%) and corporations and a cap on high salaries for executives. And, it was good. Good morning! Recently I moved and have a fenced in back yard that is probably about a half acre plus. My dog think she’s in disneyland. So far the 18 lb mutt has been coexisting with a fairly nice size rabbit. Recently the rabbit has become more brazen, just daring the mutt to catch her/him. I’m not prepared to have to dispose of dead bunnies so I’m looking for advice how on to coax the bunny out of the yard.

MAybe after coffee i’ll do better. They had universal health care and an education system that did not burden them forever.

It seems ta me, as a former “serious” student of American history and a baby boomer who grew up firmly attached to my family’s history which was forged in the turn of the 20th century immigrations, WWI, the Depression and WWII…that the oligarchy of this country expected that the crash of 1929 would give us fascism and when it didn’t they began to study everythin that FDR did in order to make sure that the next one would have conditions that precluded rescue of any form of democratic capitalism.

And sure enough, the grandchild of Prescott Bush, one of Hitler’s investment partners and an America Firster American fascist, held a war, mobilized the domestic defense forces and sent ‘em out, reduced taxes, borrowed to create a debt in support of an endless occupation and hollowed out all the political structures that would mitigate against just such suicidal stupidity.

In light of these actions, it seems that all this stupidity was informed by a close reading of history and was a deliberate effort to create endless “recession” with no “upside” from a war that would not bring us domestic riches from raw materials to be forged and finished in our factories.

I have long advocated a new “New Deal” but I’m gettin the feelin that the debt from the tax cuts snookers us outta a fast recovery.
