Hopefully not coming to an electronic voting machine near you...In case it does, the Brennan Center has some great resources available for your perusal.
Plus, last month a non-partisan group called Election Protection, headed up by the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under Law -- launched an election protection effort that has a lot of fantastic information available for the public. More from TPM. Their website has a handy state-by-state reference section.
Election Protection also has a hotline -- 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
Keep that number handy when you go to vote in case there is a problem. Hopefully we can get them on for a chat in the days ahead before early voting is in heavy gear.

Good morning, Christy. Happy Friday!
Morning Christy - it’s rainy and chilly here in Upstate NY. This IS the one thing I am worried about in this election. That all the work and sweat will go for nothing if we can’t a) get people registered correctly, b) get them to their correct polling places and c) get the votes they cast recorded the way they cast them.
Good morning, Christy. I’ve heard suggestions that one of the best protections we could have against electronic vote-flipping would be a large, random network of privately funded exit polls. Is there any effort to put such thing together? If the bad guys don’t know in advance where independent exit polling is going to be done, their job is much tougher.
Hi Christy! Nice that the hype is over with the VP debate though the spin will keep going around. But tomorrow you can have a great weekend with the Mr. and Peanut.
I guess people are very concerned here. my first prez election here.
Vote absentee, vote early.
Morning all — thought this video was a hoot. *g*
epu-ed note to Raven at end of last thread…
When you’re losin’ Imus, you’re losin’….
I plan on voting early — and then likely spending most of election day ferrying folks to the polls if there are people who need rides in between updating information here for you all.
And there’s Steal Back Your Vote
with downloadable voter’s guide
Greg Palast and RFK, Jr
Mornin’, Christy. Paper ballots, actually more like a really heavy card stock, here in FL. Used them first in the primary. Rethugs I know just don’t want to talk about the election. Despondent is the best way I know to describe it. With me hittin’ on both parties it only makes it worse for them. Love it.
Thanks for that youtube, CHS! A hoot. Not in America, maybe Ohio, but not America.
The Simpsons is very popular in this household. Got our morning off to a good start. (’Course the 20 year old won’t get to see it until the crack of noon - ha.)
Mass e-mail rumors befuddle voters
Still problems in Ohio

So is everyone as tired as I am this morning? I’m beat…but that’s because I had a late post last night, and I’m clearly getting too old to be a night owl. *g*
But he always seems to back the loser!
Like minds, Christy.
Gawd Nancy Potentbs on MSNBC She gives me nightmares. Has anyone seen this years haloween masks. Is there one of her
If allowed get a paper ballot. “Advanced Voting” is also available in some states. Some election office have eligible voters names posted online. You can verify if your vote has or has not been “caged”.
The “computerized voting machines” will destroy our democracy. They should all be destroyed.
“Some say” Clinton {Bill] won in part because of his appearance on Imus’ Show. Time will tell.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting that he expressed his “irritation” with McCain and the reckless decisioning, esp. Palin.
And for another giggle, here’s McCain’s next debate prep super secret tape… (YouTube)
I only lurked last night, so much going on here and I didn’t play a drinking game. It would have been bad ’cause I prefer to actually sleep during the night. *g*
We sure had a lot of posts and comments last night. Saw your post just before I hit the sack. You’re always such a welcome port, Christy. So, this is me saying you deserve a nap later and thanks.
We’re having company over this evening for dinner and a movie. I need to straighten the house a bit, but I appear to be fighting a losing battle against inertia this morning. *g* Here’s hoping they don’t mind the toy explosion too much — and, since they are bringing over their little girl for a playdate with The Peanut, I doubt anyone will mind.
Just haven’t had time to straighten much this week — it’s been crazy at our house…
I was so pleased with Joe Biden last night. Whatever his reputation he really delivered. I thought Palin held up well thanks to low expectations, but Biden was the Presidential one throughout.
Off to my 30 yr High School reunion tonight; haven’t seen these people in 25 yrs (since the 5 yr reunion).
Keep fighting pups, we’re almost there!
Oh wow — have fun at your reunion!
BTW Christy, WeeRog is looking like he may be a carrot top. Dad and all three of my BroRogs have red hair, so here’s hoping.
PS My standard response to taunts of carrot-top was ‘Carrot tops are green’.
A few years ago I volunteered to drive people to the polls and me, a diehard socialist, managed to drive all little old lady goopers!!! It was hell but then they have the right to vote too (damnit!). Now the political parties run the poll shuttles instead of the neutral women voters so it not so much fun. I liked to hear why people were voting gooper.
The polls here show obama leading McPalin. In NH there are so many independent voters, many libertarians, that I do believe that McPalin will have a hard time winning. People in this state do not take kindly to idiots as witnessed by their rejection of both the bushies.
Almost frost last night has severely dented the remaining flower crop. Grrrrr.
Lazear (Head of Council of Economic Advisors) is spinning a bad employment report so fast on CNBC that his head is on backwards.
fyi - the house of representatives is now considering the “new” taxpayer sellout / wall street bailout bill. live on cspan.
how bad is it?
floor of the house: kaptur up.
she has been stellar on this. thoughtful, focused and just refuses panic.
how can we reward wall street for their bad behavior and do nothing for the homeowners who will be thrown out of their homes by the first of the year?
Push for a better system. Most of Washington State, including my county, now vote by mail. The first election was a bit sad, since it seemed strange not to go to the polling place. Turnout is much higher. Folks have time to think about their vote. As these are the fill-in-the-block ballots, it is easy to discern intent when there are problems. Shortly, the ballots will arrive in the mail and once we vote, I’ll take them to the Auditor’s Office to ensure my and my husband’s vote count. I could mail them, but want to be really sure they get there.
Lost 159,000
Not as bad as I expected, but worse than general expectations, which called for a 100,000 declince in nonfarm payrolls. Actual was down 159,000. Unemployment rate, which jumped from 5.7% in July to 6.1% in August, was unchanged at 6.1% in September. Note said the Hurricane Ike probably had no influence.
thanks foothillsmike and eCAHN.
I am hoping there are teams of lawyers in the precincts that can swing the election
It looked like, at first glance anyway, that the job losses were really spread out across a wide-variety of sectors. If it were just hurricane-related (like I heard someone trying to spin last night), you’d think it would be a more narrow band of job types — but it wasn’t. It was pretty much across the board, it seemed. That’s a really bad indicator, isn’t it? Or am I wrong?
interesting in that TradMed reports earlier in the week all led with the “due to Ike” meme. nice spin there Madame Secretary
Mornin’ All !
OT - Mike Pence (R-IN)(and Republican candidate for president in 2012) is speaking.
and I agree with him.
We’re through the looking glass here people.
Dennis the K up now.
Kucinich up again
the debate currently taking place on the house floor is on the rule that will govern consideration of the taxpayer sellout wall street bailout bill.
i put the details on the rule, links, etc in a this morning: Pelosi: “Congress must act”

CNN reporting: 300 + Still Missing Since Ike . . . heartbreaking
pepsi would be fine… *g*
how sad is it that there are republicans who, on this issue, make far far more sense and concern for the american people than our democratic leadership?
Aren’t they always acting
You betcha.
Bailout will do nothing to get the economy moving upward. Will just put a weak floor under downside. Contrary to what Lazear said.
And Schwarzenegger’s got his begging cup out to the fed for bazillions for Californy….
need more coffee. back in a few for the debate.
She hit it out of the ballpark. She proved that she is ready to be John McCain’s Vice President. She was strong, she was competent, she was informed, she was very genuine. She was humorous.
Joe Leiberman on Fox News.
Gee Joe, you really think?!
He could hire Gouliani
Ooops. Got a phone call which made me forget to put the link to the employment report. Here it is

Kinda makes you wonder what they have been smoking.
Well, I did find her performance every bit as impressive, and very similar to, Malkins’ cheerleader number.
Good morning. Hope you have a better day today.
Republican coworker states this morning that anyone speaking for McCain/ Palin should be required to preface all remarks with a reminder of “the wholesome, sweet, mavericky goodness that is the entire career of John McCain.”
He is disgusted with Maverick and Goose.
He will vote Obama.

Having direct experience tracking job openings here in Los Angeles, I have seen not only a huge decrease in open positions being posted online, but also a large increase of part-time jobs.
Speaking with the gals at the agencies I am registered with confirms what I’m seeing on my own. One told me this week that everyone in the office was getting “punchy” because they are getting very few new orders and they are just twiddling their thumbs.
No links, no reports, just my personal experience.
cool, selise’s diary is on the front page at oxdown
Spencer had that yesterday, too — it’s amazing.
