What’s CW? Convential wisdom??

She’s brushing up on her foreigh policy. Texas is right next to Mexico.

DefendOurConstitution October 3rd, 2008 at 5:10 am

And now judge refuses to block investigation. Doesn’t look good. I am sure they will go to the SCOTUS for an emergency injunction (and may very well win), but just having this spectacle going on 4 weeks before election can’t look good.

Throw Sarah Palin back in the ocean.

Per Pollster.com the latest poll shows McC up 52-43. They must have some internal polling saying Texas needs saving.

TheShadowKnows October 3rd, 2008 at 5:15 am

This was a replay of Dan Quayle - Sen. Benston debate.

Quayle basically ignored most of the questions, went straight to the same repeated TALKING POINTS every chance he had. Ditto for Palin.

The Republican paid pundits raved about how Quayle was focused, and on-point. In fact he was showing disrespect for the debate questions, and disrespect for the American people who tuned in to hear positions, instead of pre-manufactured slogans and disproven charges.

At least, Dan Qualye didn’t have the nerve to wink at the audience, and ask for increased powers for the vice presidency.

ENOUGH!

McCrazy was in Iowa Wednesday - a totally lost cause.

Palin in TX today? Maybe they thought she’d self-destruct last night, and would need some nice friendly crowds to make her feel better.

Bottom line - two wasted days for the McGrumpy campaign, which is rapidly running out of days.

Pelosi paying thousands to husband’s firm

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that it’s “just foolish” to suggest that her husband is benefiting from tens of thousands of dollars one of her political committees is paying a firm he owns.

Pelosi, D-Calif., also disputed the notion that the arrangement contradicts her support last year for legislation that would have banned spouses from benefiting, directly or indirectly, from political committees controlled by their husbands or wives.

Paul Pelosi has been treasurer of the speaker’s “PAC to the Future” political action committee since last year, after the death of the previous treasurer. The PAC has paid his investment and consulting firm, Financial Leasing Services Inc., more than $50,000 since last year for accounting services and rent, plus at least $20,000 more in prior years.

they are spinning MADDLY for the dolt with a beehive

and

In other words, for every dollar in equity, it had $33 of debt. The ratios at the other firms also rose significantly. The 2004 decision for the first time gave the S.E.C. a window on the banks’ increasingly risky investments in mortgage-related securities. But the agency never took true advantage of that part of the bargain.

The supervisory program under Mr. Cox, who arrived at the agency a year later, was a low priority. The commission assigned seven people to examine the parent companies — which last year controlled financial empires with combined assets of more than $4 trillion. Since March 2007, the office has not had a director. And as of last month, the office had not completed a single inspection since it was reshuffled by Mr. Cox more than a year and a half ago. The few problems the examiners preliminarily uncovered about the riskiness of the firms’ investments and their increased reliance on debt — clear signs of trouble — were all but ignored.

Palin is a bad joke. She is totally unqualified to be Vice President or, shudder, President. It says a lot about the state of our politics that she would the VP candidate and it says even more about our media, and their penchant for completely missing the point and propagandizing, that they think she ”held her own.” I used ”folksy” to describe her performance last night as snark. So what was I to think when I saw pundits describing her just that way, as in she didn’t answer any question directed at her, had no command of issues or specifics, but, as if this makes up for all that, she was ”folksy.”

Toward the end when he pointed out how he was a single father after hsi wife was killed. Mort commented how Boden was boring and that was his only real moment buit he only became a single father after hsi wife died — then “corrected: himself and said “or was injured” in a car accident. Only. Was injured. Prick.

We can’t expect things to change until more of the people get a clue. The dumbing down of the country was not accident. It facilitates their being manipulated and played like puppets on a string. Pundits pull the strings and the people dance.

Charlie Rose had one of his get together of living fossils last night: Al Hunt of Bloomberg, Cokie Roberts, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Connie Schultz, Mark Halperin, and the fossil in chief Rose himself. And yes, they all thought that Palin did OK. No analysis or discussion of the content, just she did OK.

But then they moved on to the bailout bill and that is where things got strange even for this group. They all of course support the bailout. And as with the debate there was not a single sentence uttered that analyzed the bill’s contents or showed that any of them had read or had the least idea about it, or if it would work. But then there was a truly stunning display of dishonesty by Cokie Roberts. She went off on a rant and said, without a scintilla of evidence to back it up, that a majority of the country favored the bill and that opposition to it had been whipped up by a bunch of left and right wing bloggers. You would have to see the clip to hear the contempt directed at the internet. Again not a fact or a poll cited to support her view just a bald statement that it is so because she wanted it to be. Not a word about whether maybe just maybe those filthy bloggers just happened to be right. Not a syllable about the contents of the bill or whether it would succeed. Nothing to try and understand why so many Americans were against it. Nor anything about this being yet another instance where the Administration waits until the last moment to act and then thrusts something atrocious down the throat of the Congress, and the public.

It was unintentionally an amazing indictment of what passes for the news media in our country.

notjonathon October 3rd, 2008 at 6:11 am

In watching both debates on CNN (in Japan I have no other channel choice), I noticed that on the independent voter tracker, whenever Obama or Biden said something nice about John McCain, their approval ratings went down. When they attacked him, the ratings went up. Perhaps there are a lot of people out there who really don’t like McCain and want to have their impressions reinforced. So would someone in the know or with the right connections pass the word on to stop making with the nice when it comes to John Sidney. The attacks don’t have to be personal, but the “McCain is my friend” or “I respect Senator McCain” is not going over with the undecided voters.

JimWhite October 3rd, 2008 at 6:17 am

Yep. Last weekend Bob Graham and the former Dem Gov of Mississippi came to High Springs. Not a huge turnout, but our part of Florida is very conservative if you get out of Gainesville, so I was very encouraged they’re working the small towns in the red parts of the state. Obama’s campaign is well organized and focused here.
