… the rank-and-file non-country-club Republican congressmen don’t realize that Reaganomics was just a line of shit … [They’re] waiting for the “unseen hand” to come and save us.

The ‘unseen hand’ remains unseen, so maybe we’d better solve our own problems. Right now all the grownups in the room appear to be Dems.

He’s ruining her chances to become President. She ain’t giving it up.

She can always go back to being President of Independent End-Times Alaska or President of the Alaska Moose lodge.

We have begged Gov Janet not to accept a position in the Obama administration and stick it out until 2010 and we ALL will work our butts off helping her to McCain’s Senate seat……

Indiana now at 50-50.
being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century.
As I’ve said before, Bill Clinton could spend a few days here, and lock this state up.

The way Republicans treated him he could go just to give ‘em the finger.

Sometimes it’s best to let people come to their own senses. If you push ‘em they resent it. On the other hand, the fun you can have making it rough for them isn’t easily passed over.

Flaming fucking asshole McCain.

I was just listening to a C-SPAN replay of today’s major speeches and post-vote press conferences. The Democrats said there was a deal and the Republicans were supposed to get at least 50% of their caucus to vote for the bill. The Republicans, perhaps Rep. Hensarling (R-Texas), said he wasn’t aware of any such deal.

Somebody is lying.

Also, one of the Republicans said it was John McCain who led them away from the table.

I’m thinking McCain convinced some Repubs to sabotage the bill without telling Boehner or Blunt, making liars out of them.

And for what? The crisis persists.

McCain didn’t want cross-aisle cooperation, as claims he aims for.
McCain didn’t want the bill to pass, since that would be a Dem win.
McCain doesn’t care if the economy blows up, as he’d blame it on Dems.
McCain is rolling the dice, hoping we don’t notice how bad he’s doing.

John McCain is stabbing other Republicans in the back and making them all liars, just like he is.

America needs real solutions to their problems and Republicans aren’t offering any that will have bipartisan support.

Ah, those old (but not as old as McCain) movies! The photo of Gloria Swanson prompts this variation on the related dialog:

Joke Klein: You’re Johnorma McDesmond. You used to be a straight talker. You used to be big.

Johnorma McDesmond: I am big. It’s the effect of my political drama that got small.

And “McCain boarded his Straight Talk Air charter plane, where he sat in front, separated from reporters by a brown curtain,” moves me to misremember:

Wizard of POWz: Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Duh. The establishment clause is part of the First Amendment.

Please explain the separation of powers doctrine and the bill of rights, including in particular the establishment clause. You have 2 minutes.

And no, you cannot use a lifeline.
