Sigur Ros "Hljomalind"
In a post-Sept. 11 world, I thought the prudent use of violence could be therapeutic.
Richard Cohen, Washington Post.
Tonight an unofficial YouTube with a song called Hljomalind, by Iceland’s, Sigur Ros, who just happen to be back in the U.S. on a sold out tour.
What’s on your mind tonight?

About Firedoglake
I think I am getting addicted to all this excitement everyday in the news. What will I do when things settle down?
Never fear, Gnome, I’m sure they’ll come up with something to keep you up at night!
Eureka!
I know. I can’t decide which party to be more disgusted with tonight.
I think I will finally paint my house, learn photoshop and throw a few dinner parties.
Looking over who voted yes and no today doesn’t help me decide.
ES!
Hi ES
Miss Sarah landed today at Flagstaff and then will drive to Sedona ….. damn long drive….. lot closer if they had landed either at Scottsdale Air Park or Sky Harbor…..
Senior, are you still on the road, taking care of your folks?
What’s on my mind tonight?
Digging!
My congressdude, Brad Sherman, voted no.
I’m so proud!
She’s probably stopping along the way for more 25k fund raising cups of coffee with Sarah.
Sitting in the sound booth at UAA, where we’re rehearsing As You Like It, for its October 8th opening. We’re loading the music I’ve written so far into the control panel’s computer, and getting set up from a music rehearsal after the end of this evening’s run-through.
David Neiwert got up to Wasilla yesterday. He’s staying the week with Ms. ET and me, doing research on Sarah Palin’s past. Dave’s awesome!
Is she going to be hunting coyotes from a Hummer on the way?
hey steveaudio
Steve! You lucky dog. Not one Arkansan.. 3 Dems and one Republican.. could stray from the corporate path.
how forking kewl, et
hey steve!
cindy’s heliocopter not available?
So, once again I have been too busy to follow the news (here or elsewhere) today.
What did Nancy say about the bailout bill?
Was she right?
There are enough investigations still to come from this administration to keep us busy for the rest of our lives.
I’d still like to see John Edwards as AG.
Jackie Speier voted yes, citing responsibility. I take her at her word. she’s a brave person.
Very disappointing vote. She knows better.
I didn’t know what Boner was wailing about but when I later heard a snippet from Nancy, I just went “oh!”. She laid the whole mess at Bush’s feet. As well she should for having to shovel his sh*t.
all these out-of-town snoopers you’re hosting….. sounds like you’re gonna be on some shit lists. congratulations on a job well done
8 years after 9/11 and not only is Bin Laden still at large, the world is suffering under the largest pirate resurgence since the late 1700’s.
Heckuva job Bush.

Local News….. School has forbidden rosaries because they say that the kids are using rosaries as gang symbols….. anyone heard about that?
to me it looks like discrimination along religion & race lines….
I did laugh at the guy from georgia saying the bill was a cow patty with a marshmallow in the middle. He was not going to eat that patty! priceless.
Cool! I had the pleasure of meeting him in Austin. I’m so proud of you, ET!
Steve, nice to see you around!
Yeah. We had a big dinner last night for a San Francisco film crew that had been in Acnhorage and Wasilla since Thursday. They put up the money for the trip up here themselves, took a couple days off from work in the film industry, getting down some great interviews about Palin. I can’t say who they are yet, but they hope to have some short stuff up on youtube and elsewhere by Wednesday and Thursday, before the debate.
Me too, Loo Hoo. If Bush could resurrect John Poindexter and Elliot Abrams, Edwards as AG should not at all be out of the question.
If you missed it Thom Hartman read your post about the creationist on Air America today…… sited you too……
you have been rubbing elbows with some impressive folks et – i hope they realize they were doing likewise
well well….. what a great idea….. a solar panel company are leasing the panels and when you calculate the savings vs. cost of traditional energy there is a saving…. without putting out the $20K for whole house panel system…..
No, there is a real gang art issue tied in with the Catholic religion. Some kind of code.
That made me burst out laughing.
Look at it this way K Street might have had some play in this. They opened the back door of the treasury and made of with $630 Billion whilst we were arguing ove $700 Billion.
Shock Doctrine folks and it is not over yet. They have successfully destabilised the environment and are manipulating the markets. Somebodies made billions today.
may be a dumb question, but….. what more do we really need to know about Governor Dumb As Dogshit? Is there anything more to be discovered that matters?
That IS cool. Any word on if McCain is doing Thursday’s debate in drag? He’s supposed to come out singing Luck be a Lady Tonight!
isn’t that how nahant is doing his solar system. he has a diary up about it
nahant’s diary
It is interesting to see how the vote fell out. My very rightwing rep (Lamar Smith) voted for it. He usually is in lockstep with Bush, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised even if he claims to be a “real” conservative.
Speaking of religion.. Did the House go into recess for a religious holiday while our markets are crashing?
Ghouliani is sooooooo jealous.
I could use some Bernanke Bank Bucks right about now.
At the dinner we had last night, I told the film crew from San Francisco that we’re (Alaska bloggers and alternative media) learning more from them than they are from us. Not just about Palin, but about how we’ve come to accept such a low level of honesty and acountability from almost all our politicians.
I’m really meeting a lot of interesting, talented, dedicated and feisty people. Thanks, Sarah….
I asked what must have been such a stupid question that nobody replied in Ian’s thread about all that Fed cash flow.
But I want to know.. isn’t 600 plus billion(freshly printed this morning) without congress enough already?
There’s plenty more….
neanwhile — Thursday – hair down, major earpiece…
Thanks…. since my level payment for electricity is running $250/month… I’m willing to try anything……. and I have a perfect roof for it too…..
Arizona is worse.
Today’s Jewish holiday was one of the reasons the republicans used for not passing the bill….while the stock market went down 1.2 trillion dollars.
we had thought it would be the ted show that brought down the r’s
right party and state, wrong office
i never wudda thought sarah palin would become the poster child of everything blowing up in the r’s faces

Bushvilles?
All that pork just isn’t kosher.
maybe some hacker will figure out how to jam it
i think they are still wanting that other 700b in addition to the 600b they printed today.
there’s something dayam fishy going on with the numbers.
Is that what they mean when they say too clever by half?
somewhere I read that the “crisis” is due to all the filings that are due at the fiscal year which is Oct 1…… that they need to prove they have the capitol to back up the filings and it isn’t there. Besides the credit markets frozen up, there is no there there……. and everyone will know when they complete their filings in a couple of days…..
what then?
I want Dave to uncover the fact that the baby is really her grandson. Not that we actually need that information, but I am addicted to this soap opera and I have already written that part of the script. He needs to get all that reported before the wedding.
What filings?
Me too. I think this girl has a good case, at least I hope so. link
That seems beyond ridiculous and irresponsible to put it mildly. I just can’t imagine my religion would be more important on a day like today.. if I were in office.
where did you get that? Our wackos are openly wacko and are proud of it….. Just think of Sheriff Joe….. NO one calls them on it but everyone knows about it….
Stupid people on my tv saying people will blame dems for fallout. I don’t think so. Nancy Pelosi had the votes she promised and Boehner didn’t and no R was going to stick his neck out for Bush or to save another R’s seat instead of his own.
This crisis has been going on longer than the Bushies have been willing to admit including those tent cities, etc. I blame Bush for that. I blame Gramm and those crooks for deregulation. and I blame McCain for being a boob when it comes to clear leadership vs. opportunism. What a jerk!
Food, fuel, medicine, ammo.
From the Great Swamp, goodnight, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Considering AIG, Bear Sterns, not Barney Smith etc.. was the first 700 billion.
g’nite rond (and any other leaving sleepy pup i may have missed)
The gossip factor is fun, truth be told. Did anyone see KayinMaine ask Kos about the Susan Collins may be gay question? He ignored her, but it made me wonder only because Kay said it would cause her to lose the election if word got out.
I know nothing about it, and didn’t have time to follow the link.
Really? Plenty more? I don’t doubt it. Blowing off rte investigation was all I needed to hear. Say no more. Say no more.
As if the center aint holding enough. Disenchated Fatah pols contemplate a new and third Intafada.

b @ moonofalabama put it this way:
OK OK! :P
I was going to say NM but then remembered McPanic is from Arizona, soooo there….and NM has richardson yes but also Heather Wilson and Pete Domenici ew.
Who do you say has the lowest standards of accountability? Idaho, maybe? so many choices, really.
Yep that was it……. personally I feel that a lot of these business need to fail… it is kind of like cleaning out the shallow gene pool ……
I don’t know about this case, but I know what goes on in SoCal gangland. It’s probably the color of the beads that denotes a certain gang or something. Started at Pelican Island.
I’ve been trying to figure out how big is big, and here’s my scale:
There are 60T dollars in the world, plus another 680B when Bernacke turns off his presses at the end of the week.
There are $60T worth of credit derivatives in existence.
There are $45T worth of credit-default swaps among those credit derivatives, i.e., 3/4 of them.
There are $11T worth of mortgages
There are $111B worth of mortgages in default, i.e., 1%.
So in answer to your question, $600B would cover all defaulted mortgages, even if the default rate increased by a factor of five.
Been so much other stuff I had forgotten about the baby belonging to her daughter story.
Until Howard Dean the MT West has been completely ignored…. Until 2004 AZ did not have a permanent State Democratic Office…… they now have a duplex type of office that they share with Maricopa County AND the State Dem office with several full time staff……. we have offices all over the state…..
Night, RonD. (The most polite man on the internets!)
Well not exactly. These are loans secured with collateral TAF.
The TAF as a Sterilized Intervention
It is a book transaction “faith based” as they do not have to prove the value of the collateral. A little kabuki action. Not bad for the 630 trillion they get and all the freedom from investment bank reserves.
So these guys are more at risk now than evah. They do have balls…thanks to the free ride from Pelosi’s table top.
I feel bad for her daughter, I really do.
Again somewhere I read….. that the total of the world bad debt is running around $4-6 Trillion
Lordy. Couldn’t one of these peace treaty sessions involve passing the peace pipe?
You know that this is one piece of the economy that will trickle down. The good stuff stays at the top, but the sh*t runs downhill.
(((Loo Hoo)))
And you’re sweeter than a stolen kiss. Goodnight, hon.
Dude.. that is a quick Oxdown diary in the making….)
I feel that way too as a natural consequence of the decisions to put themselves as well as other people’s money at risk. That’s why it’s called risk: it doesn’t always turn out well. The balloon had to burst.
i agree with eureka – wigwam i would love to read your diaries
Ah Oh…… Letterman is trashing McCain AGAIN……
And if only the bad guys would get what they deserve. Unfortunately lots of innocents may be slaughtered. It is hard to tell what is “wolf” and what is real.
whoa. no dem office? wow, didn’t know. thanks for the update.
OK, I think I will follow RonD and hit the hay. Oops, I meant do like RonD, not follow. The Queen might not like a Gnome in her bed. ;-)
nite gnome.

Even the completely daft need learn that lesson just the once.
Bernanke= Daddy Warbucks from Little Orphan Annie”.
You know how I know? Mr & Mrs Gnome had lunch with Mr & Mrs RonD when the Gnomes were in Tampa in January! It was great fun for all of us.
Is he doing a McTop ten list?
completely daft is a great description of st john the gluehorse
Oh boy! Olbermann will repeat it too.
*rubbing hands together gleefully*
He did his standup as digs at McCain and now he is really going on about Paul Newman….. such wonderful stories….. talking about how Newman took care of his fellow man and that says everything about the man…..
Whoa, doggies. Herbert is on it:
Letterman is certainly doing his part more than Clinton. I heard Thom Hartmann say today what I had been intuiting and that is professional pols such as Clinton know that people vote personality more than issues in general. So Bill goes out and says how much he likes McCain but that Obama is right on the issues. really bugs me. He knows what he’s doing and isn’t helping Obama. He ought to just stay home.
I think the press should call ET a renaissance man from Wasilla.
Money can’t buy you love. Think he’s learning that?
Lovely heart wrenching tribute to Paul Newman on Letterman….. well worth watching….
Ok heading out to bed….. now that Americablog has ruined my love of chocolate….Cadbury chocolate tainted with melamine AND he has a good question…..So just how much of our food, if any, is made in China?

When I get caught up a bit, I hope to put some diaries together. So far, on this meltdown mess, I have not been able to get a coherent picture. Those statistics give some idea of the scope of the problem. But how to fix it?
Almost all of the academic economists I’ve listened to recommend the path that the Swedes followed: the government buys preferred stock in the ailing institution to give them working capital and protect the public’s interest. I heard on Olbermann or Maddow tonight that Finland did something similar and prohibited all dividends and/or bonuses until the public was paid back. Quite simple and straightforward.
I’ve said “assets or equity, nobody rides for free.” Per Krugman, the Paulson plan is premised on the theory that the “toxic assets are under-priced,” which Krugman doubts, and hence his preference for preferred stock preferrably with voting rights.
That sounds pretty straight forward to me.
Cindy does not present as a mild and forgiving type.
OMG the McCain digs keep going……. now his other guests are joining in…. Julia Dreyfus really went at it too…..
between dave and snl – mccain is forking toast and sistah sarah is a laughing stock
Glad you mentioned that. I’ve a lot of roots in ME, but have never understood the dynamics. Blunt speakers they are, ayup!
Maybe all Obama needs to do to win the next debate is say, “David Letterman.”
McCrazy would absolutely explode.
goodnite!
ha! g’nite
Goodnight all of you sleepy pups. (Can’t figure out my own sleep clock)
i’m heading out myself. gotta start packing up my stuff for the move up to the bay.
g’nite all.
Well this is good news.
UN passes resolution on Iran
Jalili said the resolutions were not constructive [AFP]
The UN Security Council has unanimously passed a resolution that orders Iran to halt nuclear enrichment work, but imposes none of the new sanctions Washington and its allies want.
nite suz
Per Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com:
Also, Nate now projects Obama’s “win percentage” (likelihood of winning in November) at 83%.
Good night, Suz.
I much prefer BushREPUBLICS.
and hope the name catches on.
Lots of talk about inability to identify the owners of the mortgage debt, but I’m not sure the dots have been publically connected. Foreclosure is a function of state law. Forms of mortgage security interests differ dramatically, and the ability to foreclose, sue *or modify* in many states may be past impaired and necessitate some sort of federal legal preemption of state law.
I suspect the reality of vast numbers of legally impaired collateral documents is one of the reasons the industry is desperate for fed acquisition as a solution. I’m looking ultimately for someone to introduce legislation “to enable modifications” which will coincidentally also enable foreclosures.
I know i have read statistics of just how many folks are 30, 60, 90 days et., behind on their mortgage.
The Shock Doctors will not act right nor disclose anything unless they are forced to do so. Just like bailing out all these crooks without knowing what’s really on their books. Absurd to the extreme.
Diplomatic approach moving along. That’s good the community of Nations in sinc! Save lives and misery. Please to more suedo cowboys or toughs in power.

Hi Pups who haven’t hit the bed yet! Just got home and I did digg this post for ES!
you good?
i’m out. have a sweet night
Me I am Ok!! But Julie had a small heart attack this afternoon and will be getting another angiogram at the Santa Clara Kaiser sometime tomorrow. She is doing Ok now and it seems it was just one episode. They are monitoring her overnight and will take by ambulance to the Santa Clara facility for the proceedure.
This has not been exactly our best summer this year. And the 29th seems to be not our day of the month.
ES, if you’re still here:
I know i have read statistics of just how many folks are 30, 60, 90 days et., behind on their mortgage.
Imagine what those numbers might look like after a series of state court decisions that the sliced and diced mortgages were unenforceable.
Oh Nahant! I’m so sorry. Thoughts and prayers to you both.
Thanks SunnyN she is in good hands for the night and we will know a lot more after the proceedure. She had a stent put in last June 29th and we were to9ld that if there were going to be any problems it would proball be in 3 or 4 months… Boy they are good 3 months to the day… How’d they do that??
Nahant, I think it’s just us chickens (and prolly lurk).
If you want to talk, I’ll hang in with ya.
I remember – I was mostly reading, not so much talking. (My dial up slows me down considerably)
Boy they are good 3 months to the day… How’d they do that??
Geeze. Glad she’s in good hands.
Things should be ok for her and I am not too worried but dam seems we just got good news about me last Thursday and then this comes up. Sure has been trying for us this last year. First I was told I had cancer of the liver a year ago last August and since January it has back and forth 3 different times that yes it is then no it isin’t. So last Thursday my liver doctor says no it is not but I will need to have monthly blood tests and an MRI every three months. Then last June Julie had tightnees in her chest so I made her call and we went to the emergency room and they decided to have her have an angiogram which ended up her getting an angioplast put in. since then she has been doing grest with plenty of energy and feeling great. Then today, her first day teaching at her music school late in the day she burst into dripping sweat and was feeling a heaveyness in her chest and it just didn’t quite go away by the time she got hoome. So againg she calls and lo and behold this time she had an actual heart atack, they said it was a small one but one none the less. So she is back to have another angiogram tommorow so We will see what happens then.
Good night pups who are left!! Good night Lurk… make sure you stay awake now and make sure no trolls mess up the Lake!! You know they are not allowed to do any swimming!!
Attaturk is upstairs!
Hollerin’
Good night and best wishes for you and your Julie, nahant,
thanks Lurk you take care(:>))
