Schoolhouse Rock – Three Is A Magic Number. Who sang this is answered here (my guess was wrong).
What’s on your mind tonight?

thanks for the diggs and for opening it, nahant
Still too early for the jammies…!
Hiya All!
My mind is on the Wes Clark v. Rove debate in Buffalo last Friday. What a description in print, and CAN’T wait for the video…anyone?
so how is everyone tonight?
Dugg your Digg, nahant
and furthermore, I Dugg AND recommended your diary
sorry, haven’t figured out how to link all of that in one comment
Hey Suz whats with the double replyReply I am seeing? Is anyone else seeing that??
Chickens, meet roost.
Hey Chris!
Hunting vid right now.
Evening all. Thinking Oxdown is going to be wizard.
I’m great Suzanne! I processed about 20 lbs of local tomatoes and am dead with milling seeds and skins of wonderful beefy tomatoes (now, did I say any dirty body words here?). Love you guys!
Shit that was quick now it to normal! don’t ya just love COMPUTERS!!
And thank Neuro for Digg my diary, I will be adding more once I go over all the info we have gotten on the solar system and all the benies we will get from going this route1
i’m not seeing it
clear your cache and see if it is still there
canning or saucing?
Cut and quartered each one, milled in tomato grinder, skinned, seeded, and tomato pulp into kettle with olive oil and fresh garlic, chopped. Stewed three hours, and frozen in quarts. Heaven this winter.
*sigh*
Dang, a lot of Rovian ‘Math’ mixed in there… I liked the “only 3% of homeowners face foreclosure…”
I read the same report — they say video tomorrow or soon. WHAT a description, has Carl Rove finally met his match?
Am.Dying.To see it.
nahant, got a question for you
I am thinking about replacing my computer soon
it is soooooooo slooooooooooow
right now I’m using someone else’s, and I found out how fast computers are supposed to be. don’t know if I will be able to stand it when I go home and resume using my old one
I know you like to build your own PCs, but that is far beyond my ability to even learn how to do
so if I want a good basic PC with enough juice to stay current for quite awhile but have no special needs, what specs do you recommend?
I mainly use it for internet, with some word processing and excel, not much else
It is a LONG winter here Suz, like 6 months. I have to preserve any fresh ingredients possible. And my basil plants are awesome. Can I expect BO to visit Cleveland soon?
Sounds perfect!! We have eaten our way through most of our crop of tomatoes. but I did use some of then today in the sauce I made for dinner. With home made meat balls and lots of fresh veggies. Cooked up some store bought fresh pasta… twas a great dinner!
me too. rove dropping his verbal turds underneath the giant statute of a buffalo.
i am so hoping the the whole visual screams bullshit
Jumping in. Paul Simon, right?
nahant, if you want you can e-mail me at my screenname at a o l

wow. i just listened to the conference call treasury had tonight with 800 of their closest friends in the financial services industry. has anyone else given it a listen? my bad for forgetting which pup posted the link to naked capitalism on the previous thread, but here’s the link and the beginning of the post.
great links and comments from folks who gave it a listen.
I’m thinking computers are like cars, “Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?”.
i’m looking forward to learning the seasons up here. gonna spend this winter planning my garden – watching the sun to see where it shines seasonally; learning what critters i gotta critter proof against; the usual stuff when at a new location.
its going to be a fun learning experience.
Slice in half, place in baking dish. Cover with garlic, LOTS of olive oil, good salt and freshly ground pepper. Bake for three hours or until browned on top
nope
hey teddy
I saw in todays newspaper ads a Dell with a Duo core Quad processor system, with six yes six gigs of ram a 19″ wide screen monitor Vista home premium and a dual layer DVD burner which will burn 8 gig DVDs all for $849.00. You just couldn’t go wrong with a PC like that for quite a few years!
You should check out the Dell website for possibly even better deals.

Phil Cunningham is a wonderful musician.
I want to be able to watch a YouTube without it getting ahead of itself and freezing…I want to be able to refresh a page in a matter of a few seconds…I’m not asking for much. I have hi speed cox cable but it sure doesn’t act high speed much of the time.
thanks, I’ll do that.
you need to go into the electronics store and test drive a couple different systems. find out what is available at what price in your area – and you should be able to find what ya need in your budget. xmas is coming and computer co’s are wanting those sales
Top of the evening to you Ladies and Gents.
Hi Suz, Chris, and everyone.
Tomatoes…ahhh, better than chocolate. Well, as good anyway.
hey bb and margot
I miss real tomatoes living in a northwest coastal area. It’s so hard to let go…nd not try extreme measures to grow them. Enjoy, they are a gift.!!
Busted they have become so freaking cheap for what just a few years ago you couldn’t even buy for the home!
Hiya Margot,
The description of the Rove v. Clark debate was the highlight of my weekend. My goodness, I loved that KR just could not keep up with Wes was wonderful. Can’t wait for the video.
i’m thinking about a greenhouse – a small one like what i saw at costco a couple years ago. it went together in sections like those sheds but was clear.
Well, I’m packing it in early tonite, I posted a diary at Oxdown…
I bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
This one is easy:
When you have the law on your side, you argue the law,
When you have the facts on your side, you argue the facts.
When your record is the blithe destruction of world economies, and entire nations themselves (including your own), you pull a Palin – you get smoked.
I know I once lived in Maine and we had such a short growing season from early June until early September. Had to wait until the last full moon after labor day to plant. But I did manage to get some great tomatoes that were acclimated to the climate and grew real fast.
But here in Redwood city we have great weather for them usually although we get way too much fog and the tomatoes ripen slowly those years, this year was a great year for them, we had many that never made it into the house and were consumed straight from the vine…. mmmmmm good!
Humanity is surely corrupted. Following the continuing tail of deception and greed.
I forty ish retired Las Vegas contrator I meet walking dog shared with me today he has been playing the shorts and is very nearly gone mad. He is down a few thou.
There are millions of people trying to screw one another. So ridiculous, what is wrong with people? I am now laughing as I have an average yearly income of $5,000.00 over my life. They have millions and if you look at McCain’s eyes in the Huffington Post picture today you will see a madman. So pathetic that the Repulicans can not find a qualified candidate. He will push all the freaking buttons and no undergound shelter will save anything. Sarah will be in that room pushing and speaking in tongues as the planet gets fried.
g’nite ct
Hey Boyfriend,
See you tomorrow!
bb, honey, breathe.
hey mary mcc
nite, folks
Hey Miss Suz.
g’nite neuro – happy computer shopping
Wes Clark made me a happy woman tonight. :)
The hour, the minute the vid is available…
It’s going to be a popcorn-kinda-night.
i am waiting (impatiently) to see the video.
It’s called: KOYAANISQATSI, Life Out of Balance – pure unadulterated insanity.
Really, Aw that is histerical. I said hello and fried the planet. Everyting is just fine. Not to worry we’ll all go to heaven in a little row baot..3 6 9 the the goose drank wine, (The name Game)
conjunction
even if you-all aren’t too interested right now, i’ll leave this for folks to see in the am. house rules committee just posted out a new rule for the bailout:
Keep me close.
Monday:
DOJ’s IG report, wherein the whole stinking lot get all redfaced and call their lawyers again.
Clark-Rove debate is posted and Prig Noonan trots back out to suspend disbelief for another 20 minute news cycle.
Tuesday and Wednesday: 2 more days for McCheese to step in shit.
*they are going to write many books about the last 6 weeks of this campaign, and Steve Schmidt’s appearance in PressTheMeat this morning will be prominently featured.
Thursday: Sarah Palin sinks the final nail into the GooperHopes™ in 2008.
Friday: I sleep all damned day.
what’s that mean selise? only 3 hours of debate???
let’s not forget that i am moving this week right smack dab in the middle of this bruhaha. i’m thinking of sleeping all forking weekend (laughing)
I’m also in the greenhouse planning stage. But I’m going for recycled windows, etc. with tiered northern beds. I’m thinking that if I can’t do it for $150 or so, I’m not worth my salt as a gardener. Of course, as a true gardener, $150 can morph to much more as the project dictates.
yes – three hours. but all the amendment to the amendment stuff? that will have to wait until morning. i need some sleep and then some coffee to try to figure that one out – haven’t seen a rule like that before.
but the message i take from this is that the leadership must think they have the votes – otherwise i don’t think this would have happened.
but who knows?
WTFFFFF?
I am officially not paying my credit cards. I need an unthought out, knee jerk reaction to my financial situation.
Burn money, save fuel.
USS Liberty friends and survivors held a meeting in behalf of the Liberty at the Suffern Free with a turnout of about 100 people. The USS Liberty was a US Naval surveillance ship sunk by the Israeli Air Force, killing 34 US sailors, and wounding 171.
A vocal jewish section of the audience call the whole affair anti-semitic.
The three Liberty survivors presenting the program thought otherwise.
Two more presentations were planned at other locations:
1. Memorial United Methodist Church in White Plains
2. Fellowship of Reconciliation in Upper Nyack.
The demonstrators thought the US and Israeli governments lied about the Liberty. And covered it up. Emotions ran high at the meeting.
It’s a start.
Godfrey Reggio participated in the Stock Exchange of Visions project in 2006.
Hopi! Now you are talking peace brother…Godfrey is way kewl…started a medical care for 12,000 in Sanat Fe. A mighty man. Fasting/meditation is great. T-Bear you are a man of wisdom and knowledge a seeker! Great story.
true – recycle and re-use are the best way – one can always use that pvc pipe and plastic sheeting but eventually that gets wore out and needs replacing.
gonna be a learning process for me.
I think I’ve had one microbrew too many. I couldn’t figure out what the hell that actually said!!!!
I bet the vote goes sideways. McCain is still invested in fucking it up. By just existing he is fucking it up. But not in the way it needs to be fucked up.
I have this feeling am not making sense……
If you saw Joe Biden on Olbermann’s post-debate Countdown Friday night, you saw what a cool customer he is right now. He has that grin.
*disclaimer: I’m saying Palin is going to be about 2 feet tall once that debate is over, and at least part of my confidence is based on this: the alternative is unthinkable.
So sleep away.
i smell a rat
i think they are trying to pull a fast one with one of them fake i voted no after screwing the pooch deals they pull.
I heard rumors that she is better than we think.
or not.
that means you’ve had exactly the correct amount!
If it weren’t for the Couric
interviewdisaster, I might be less happy about this Thursday night.Truly, Tina Fey would make a better showing.
i did see biden on ko – but i worry – the debate has been changed to her benefit – she’s gonna be fighting dirty and jr high school style – although that alaska debate i saw did show if she knows the subject, she could be being underestimated.
Yes but 6 mill 10′ x 25’sheeting is only $6.95 at Orchard supply this week! At that price you can buy several rolls and not break your budget! That would make replacing tattered sheets cheaper than most any thing else!
This mccain debate video is good for a laugh.
behold, “the lizard”.
mccain may end up doing the right thing for the wrong reasons?
??????!!!!!!!
Hello?
Did I miss something?
Biden has been making speeches in the United states Senate since the age of 29.
He may be goofy as all get-out, but he’s a big-game player.
Hey Suz how our punctuations?
But there is soooooo much she still doesn’t know.
good night all. have fun. i’m going to try to get some sleep. may be a big day tomorrow – i think the financial/economic/bailout issue is way, way bigger than fisa.
i told you dood.. moving into to the new place 10/1
Regarding the VP debate, I find it particularly interesting that the debate will be moderated by Gwen Ifill, an African American woman who is managing editor of “Washington Week” and senior correspondent for “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.”
I regard Ifill to be experienced, smart, and serious about complex matters of national importance. For Palin, I expect there will be an automatic comparison made with Ifill as a point of reference. That effect will be diminished to the extent that Ifill doesn’t follow-up and get the mix like Lehrer did last Friday night, but the contrast in their depth and demeanor could be striking. While the back and forth between Biden and Palin will be minimized, it might only serve to highlight back and forth between Ifill and Palin.
g’nite selise
There will be a question about Pakistan – there will have to be. And Palin will walk down the same shit-stained path McCheese did last Friday – Pakistan ‘was a failed state’ – and Joe will destroy her in 30 seconds.
No plastic sheeting. Recycled glass windows set on frames. If you had to do plastic it should be vinyl to withstand the weather. But that stuff is way too expensive for the project, in my opinion. Ingenuity. hair pulling ingenuity.
However, I do have some laying hens now. My dream has been to replicate a greenhouse in Vermont[?] where the woman pumped chicken breathe into the soil of her raised beds[in the greenhouse] and fooled the plants into producing as if it was summer, in winter. Summer powered Basil in the heart of winter.
Yep. FISA is a nasty, incidious creepy crawlie thing. The Big Bail Out ain’t gonna work. This is shock doctine at it finest. Things are going to get really dirty. Old people are going to be living on the streets.
yeap, is why they changed it and gamed the style of the debate to one that is more slanted her way. no back and forth – its more like a forking interview than a real debate.
the only good side – she forking sucks at interviews
Suz – did you settle on a place close to water, or otherwise meeting your wishes? Here’s to comfort and happiness in your new home.
Look in your greenhouse supply for more durable sheeting, it is UV resistant and will last for some time before deteriorating (make sure the outside is outside). It would protect the PVC pipes to some extent and give some years of use, many more if taken down after weather ameliorates for the growing season.
Not so many retorts from the big Tart.
Well it has been another one of those days and I am need of more sleep! So Good night pups and sleep well when you get there. And yes tomorrow will be a tumultuous day with this the biggest give away in all history! $700,000,000,000.00 What a freaking big number… boy do I wish MY checking account had a balance with that many commas!
Make sure you ‘ground’ it somehow. Pegs in the ground or tied to something sturdy. My neighbor bought a Costco one last summer and the wind blew it over. Now she ties it to her fence.
a place right on netarts bay. there are some pictures over at my place. its the upstairs flat of a former bed & breakfast and is a 100 year old shingle style building with original wood and details inside.
g’nite nahant
Fork me, I missed a week somewhere, tomorrow is my dads bday, that makes what, Wednesday 10/!?
I need to talk to someone tomorrow ASAP!
aha. i had not considered that. thanks bb’fly
dood, i’m renting it furnished for the first bit.
no pod yet.
but your dad’s birthday…
Great googley-moogley I just checked, and it really does say all that garbage.
So is this another one of those manuvers that ends up allowing purely cosmetic “nays”?
It wasn’t sunk, but it was shot up pretty badly.
The argument gets interesting when one gets to the issue of possible Israeli motivation. I’ve heard two stories:
– There was killing of POW’s going on in the Sainai. Israeli historians cop to this but insist that it was only rogue units involved.
– Israel feared that the Liberty had intercepted internal Israeli communication regarding their intention to attack Syria the next day, which the U.S. had told them not to do.
The Tale of Mr. Morton
Fork! Panic mode set in there!
My #114 was in reply to #77.
no pod no panic, busted. i promised to give ya several weeks notice, remember :)
Just cam in so here is Democrats take on this BAIL out:
POOF
CRS, remember?
Whew!
OK, G’thud for now.
I am listening to some greast Native American drum and chant music with the yipping sounds. Princess Palin killed many wolf brothers…she in deep shit with Mother Earth…that is some big karma. Look out Sarah Biden gonna have your lunch.
g’thud busted

I am now totally ashamed to be a raised-in-CO person. The Denver Police union is proudly presenting t-shirts honoring the DNC police violence. See Rawstory.
Fuck, I’m going to have to spend hours calling everyone from the cop shop to the mayor tomorrow.
When will it ever end!!!!!!!
it rots from the top down. lack of accountability by the feds does have a trickle down effect
WoW. That’s looks amazing. So much raw natural beauty to gaze at combined with a clearing around the house to keep the lush wilderness at bay. i know I wouldn’t ever grow tired of that, even when the winter storms roll in. The shake shingle siding is great as is the wood interior. Old houses like that tend to have good bones. My place is a 1929er that I’ve done a lot of work on over the last 7 years in part to restore it to some of it’s original form. I’ve got a few 70 ft Doug fir trees in my yard and a 60 mile view to the east. It’s relaxing to just look out the windows.
its got a red metal roof and, due to the teracing on the north side, i can look outside my living room window and see grass at eye level. and the views from the kitchen are pretty darn good – even if its not a water view. bet in the winter i can see the creek that flows along that side of the property into the bay.
Nice, Suz!
The vocalist – Keith’s sister – Pen?
grrr
Oh, sorry – Pep.
Grrrr
I am so sick of the anti-Semitic tag every time someone speaks the truth about Israel.
The survivors are starting to tell the truth of the attack. They were gagged by the government. After all these years, some of them are just not going to put up with that, anymore.
LBJ and Admiral McCain were very much involved. BBC did a good documentary called “Dead in the Water”.
McCain ordered a closed investigation and the results have been sealed ever since. John boy followed the family tradition…he had all of the Vietnam War
missing POW investigations sealed up.
hic
buenos sueños all
g’nite muzzy
The more outraged I get at the cops own glorification of their physical traitoring ? of our Constitution, the more I see this as a DNC wake-up call to address the violence they allowed to happen on their watch, during their convention.
Where the hell was the DNC when this was going on? In private parties with corporate whores. How Denver!!!
ps. can we say corporate whores on FDL?
psst – i think you just did :)
beg pardon?
And by the way, unless and until the Department of Justice is restored from the shell it has become and strikes fear into the hearts of cops everywhere that they wil be prosecuted for violating the civil rights of everyone, that will stay the same.
skippy’s got one of my favorite covers as his sun nite music club tonight.
i am so wanting to see this documentary when it comes out.
Good. Better find some greenhouses and use their UV proof will be a little brittle but can be recycled. I am nervous to use glass it is brittle. I have recycled redwood made into raised plantar beds with excellent clay soil and organic compost layered. In coastal fog get small toms, regular beans but leafy stuff is mas grande.Peppers good. It is sloped to drain and reuse in compost aerated tea with grey water and sink water with micro rhazzae.
My small vegie garden loves me and I eat a little raw food every day. Recyle shower water in toilet. Laundry in compost tea. Am on good terms with my Mother. Bay Area has recycle eco earth in Berkeley.
The cops violated the First Amendment Rights of the people who were there. There is no justification for that.Shame on the union for bragging about it on t-shirts.
I’m going to see if I can buy one of those t-shirts. The story said they printed 2,000. Maybe I’ll get my shirt before I call the city.
First I’m calling the DNC. Fuck them!!! They don’t get a free pass on this one. They almost did. No one has held them accountable for the fascist shit they allowed to go down. So okay, I’m going to hold them accountable. Every little thing starts with one seriously offended and dismayed person. I guess I’m ”it”.
ok, pups, g’nite all. thanks for hanging out with me tonight.
Glass is great for greenhouses for durability, the drawback is the huge quantity of heat required to make the stuff, large numbers of cubic feet of natural gas to get temperatures necessary, the carbon footprint of the plastic greenhouse sheeting is insignificant in comparison. If glass is used, used glass from patio doors having been tempered is probably the best, and safest should breakage happen (it should survive all but the largest hailstones). Using redwood puts a huge demand on the species, cedar does last about as long but it too is under pressure. Used railroad ties may be the best wood to have in contact with the ground in a wet climate, and can easily be replaced if necessary, the creosote is a natural product but much care used in slinging it about.
Thanks, but your 78 was too kind.
no argument at all
nite suzanne
interesting evening here
g’nite Suzanne
Not to can’t hear enough really good. My redwood is like everything I use mostly recycled. It was a torn out deck planed again. My furniture is off of the street mostly. Got three architecture tables and stand classy and lots of desktop space for projects.
We have some really cool recycle stores in our area. I’m planning used glass for the southern exposure, reclaimed wood for the raised beds, but I haven’t quite figured out what the north/east walls will look like.
Did some research on the best frame designs. It’s really not rocket science. Just formidable for a beginner.
Suzzanne enjoy your dream retirement.
If you can’t dance you shouldn’t be president and VP.
Today’s picture is great (2008 September 29)
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/
Found over at whatreallyhappened…a video of Rep.Burgess.
Was he joking? Being sarcastic? Telling the truth?
Exact words:
“I understand that we are under Martial Law as declared by the Speaker last night”.
Was he just complaining because this bill is being rammed through, or did he mean it?
Goodnight all. Spent the day protesting and rallying. Starting to wear me out, this civil dissent thing.
Where are the people? It’s getting weird being the small group-from 15 people to 1,000 people- out in the streets.
Maybe in the streets dissent is SOOOOOO 1968.
But if we don’t stand and march……who will jar the average Amerikan’s thoughts?
I’ve received a long e-mail from Michael Moore, it begins:
Michael is sounding particularly concerned, to the point of opposing the bailout altogether, not a good sign.
Went to a political rally for local candidate She had a small group of which one was a Republican whom I went over and said hi She works for the Builders Association which is nit exactly setting records. She immediately luanched into a rant about how Dems caused the Fannie Mas melt down due to affordable housing. I had my peace hat on so I merely said I did not come to argue and so she invited me for a kiss on the lips! I am an affordable housing advocate http://www.clih.net so I passed the bait.
Just hope he gets on the tubes and tells it like it is. He knows the health care money won’t be there next decade. Good story.
Have you come across “Architecture for the Poor” by Hassan Fathy ISBN 0-226-23916-0 ?
Going through the news, BBC had this report about statins:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7637937.stm
I had left for awhile. Are you still around? If so, go over to whatreallyhappened and watch the video of Marcy Kaptur calling the people pushing this “enemies”. Eye opening few minutes…
T-Bear I had not I saw a little on wiki. Co-housing and bag walls using onsite sand (I live on dunes)to make materials. The US HUD has a 10 year plan to end chronic homeleassness in 350 cities and counties. Our county just got a draft out by Homebase (bay area) for temporary and permanrnt low cost housing. So far we haven’t convinced the local Board of Supervisors to pony up some of there sites. That might be in our Tri county library system, I’ll check.
Attaturk is upstairs!
And now for something, completely identical
Fathy is/was an Egyptian architect who worked with adobe. Other materials can be substituted as well as recycling of items like tires, or using hay bales with waterproofing stucco for protection from the elements. I don’t know if Mother Earth News is still published, there were a number of alternative concepts discussed there. One I recall was a wall built of adobe and bottles, lets in light, saves landfill space from bottles.
Fahey from Architecture Inform
Link http://eng.archinform.net/quellen/90439.htm
He is most noted for his sociological approach to housing the poor. There are some really excellent concepts, cheap materials, beautiful design and safe clusters to mention a few.
Gentrification has destroyed much affordable housing, Flipping older units to a higher price is a money maker that takes out lower income residents. The whole planning scheme is broken and will not produce sustainable communities. Work forces have huge carbon footprints and energy bills. The Planning industry is antiquated and likes it.
Glad you found that. Try to get people to think outside their experience is nye impossible, to break through the social isolation to where others have answers as well that have value to add makes root-canal seem enjoyable by comparison. Fathy’s concepts will be valuable in reclaiming urban areas and populations into a livable, supportive environment that people can survive and prosper without causing untold damage to nature to do so. There is huge intelligence that can be harnessed in those overlooked communities.
