Hey Suz!
hiya Suz!
PORKY!
Suzanne! Toons are back!
Has everyone heard? There is supposedly a deal now. The AP article didn’t say if Boner and the stupid House Republicans are on board.
Soozeroonie!
g’evening ya’ll. how’s everyone tonight?
boing boing forward three-and-a-half somersaults, tuck position, no splash (’natch)
EPU’d…
Bye bye Paul Newman, that guy was a real human being.
The Antithesis of these Republican thieving bastards who don’t give a fuck about their fellow citizens of the world.
RIP Dood.
Amen, BK! He was a good man indeed!

Digg it, little piggies!
I Dugg Your Digg Neuro!!
More on it…
The online NYT Sunday edition has a stunning front page story on McCain’s best friends in the gambling industry with timelines, graphs, photographs and all that stuff – and did I mention Jack Abranoff?
dugg
verbal smerbal… i wanna read what the plan is and then have ian explain what it means.
Take a look at the time stamp on my 17…! 8-P
Oh no!
A joint resolution – disaster if we don’t have a GOOD 60 votes in the Senate.
And what is this “free hand”. Oversight? Guidelines? Reporting requirements?
thanks for the diggs, pups, and thanks neuro for opening it
Well, that’s just nice. Now McSlime can scream at them that they’re just like DKos (even worse than Huffpo).
BWAHAHAHAHA!
No worries, Suz. They’ll post it online during the vote.
The very least they could do would be to mail every citizen who gets this stuck up their ass a coupon for Preparation H to help with the swelling.
Criminals.
payback’s a bitch, Johnny-boy!
He dissed Politico too, but they’re still fluffer-ing.
Yo Johnny – ya got the balls to piss off the Washington Post?
thanks nahant, you are a pillar of Diggnitude.
How about the rest of you Diggers?
Digg it for Suzanne!
Neuman is a true Hero! Besides being an actor/raced river He started a food company and donated the profits to charities! $250 Millions worth! A true Hero who cared about his fellow man unlike the fake hero McCain who only cares about his rich buddies and big Corporations!!
They are on the mantle.
Cindy let’s him look at them occasionally.
what every happened to nancy promising that bills would be online so that we the people could read them and her vow that congress csritters could actually read the proposed bill before voting (what a concept)… or am i mis-remembering?
…and, backed Ned Lamont.
I wanted Dennis Kucinich’s deal. He wanted to give everyone a shareholder account and put $2300 in each account (the amount it is going to cost us) and if it went up – WE would get the money!
Here’s the link
DIGG
Paul Newman at 83 would have made an infinitely better president than John McCain at 72
or 68
or 65
or 60…
So they are going to give Paulson a $350 billion blank check? I don’t get the last part. Paulson has said he’s gone come January. Why would he care what happens after that?
Why does G W Codpiece care what happens in Iraq after he leaves office?
The only thing Nancy’s been honest about is that impeachment is off the table.
Hey, Palin took on the entire Washington Press Corps the night she accepted the republican VP slot!
aha – 9 hours-old is ancient history today *g*
This part is typically lovely:
Sources said Saturday afternoon that as many as 40 Republican senators were prepared to vote for the emerging bailout deal if bankruptcy and social spending provisions are dropped.
Thanks, dems (Very Small “d”).
Fuckers.
Absolutely! Ian always helps us pups understand all this mumbo jumbo that these bills throws at us!
And they have been scared stiff and incredulous at just how stupid she really is ever since.
yup, she’s a real Maverick™
Hey, Palin took on the entire Washington Press Corps the night she accepted the republican VP slot!
Yes, she certainly did.
And people wonder where (and why) Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric suddenly grew a pair…
lol – hoping that after Thursday night, we can call Sarah “Baked Alaskan”.
hahahahaha
Well, if the dems would just hold tough on that…oh, wait. Not gonna happen.
I remember when Ford came out with a Maverick in the 60s, intended to compete with import compacts
wasn’t it basically a piece of trash?
anybody taking odds on whether she’ll be fired/resign/take time off to spend with her family before Thursday nite?
yeap, it wasn’t until that top gun movie that the term maverick became a non-insult
Anyone think that debate is actually going to happen? Her debate prep was by one insider account “a complete and total disaster”.
No, more like a trash-hauler.
And leave John McCain alone! He was a flippin POW for christ’s sake!
Yeah, they sort of resembled a Mustang – but were about one-quarter step up from the infamous Pinto (of the exploding gas tanks etc.)
Baked and stewed.
Yeah – lowering expectations is one thing, but humiliating the candidate to do it is beyond spin. Or an enormous fake-out. Or not.
Hi everyone – scarlet’s here (but in southern california… just finishing up my san diego to seattle and back peace sign hangings (haven’t counted, but it’ll be over 200 freeway signs by the time i’m done.)
here’s a quote from Paul Newman:
“I’d like to be remembered as a guy who tried — tried to be part of his times, tried to help people communicate with one another, tried to find some decency in his own life, tried to extend himself as a human being. Someone who isn’t complacent, who doesn’t cop out.”
He and I have a very brief history together. he helped me clothe pretty much every village in the northwest sierra madres… back before I became the freewayblogger. he was a great, great guy, and didn’t mind funding me, even though it was a dicey proposition (had to bribe customs people and the like…)
going back to the garage to put paint on cardboard now – love to you all…
Forgot all about that!
“My friends, Barack
OsamaObama just does not understand that I was a POW and I am a Maverick™ and I am entitled to be the next President of the United States of America!yes indeed and so was the Barracuda……………
OMG…. JD Hayworth will be on a local channel after the Veep debate………. you might vote some yeahoos out of office but they don’t stay home…… AND he looks like he gained all of the 100+lbs he lost that WE the people paid for his gastric bypass……
Scarlet!
He was something.
love to you also, scarlet
goddamn – NBC has already blocked the YooTube of Tina Fey as Sarah from tonight’s SNL…
(pretty soon, though, there will be too many of ‘em out to keep blocking all of them.)
Thank you for all YOU do!
Wow. Cool connection. Hugs, Scarlet.
He was hawking free government payments to buy real estate last year on late night TV. I shit you not.
Big-ass belt buckle and all.
Ranz des vâches
(Explanation here; familiar musical interpretation here. That’s John McCain riding herd and to the rescue at the transition.)
So John, where are the Abramoff e-mails you didn’t realease? Just how much money did you win in that indian casino?
His own party doesn’t want him presiding when the economy chicks come home to roost. Better to blame Nancy and Obama.
Who says the republicans can’t multi-task?
Her debate prep was by one insider account “a complete and total disaster”.
True?
Lowering the bar?
Disinformation?
hell if I know.
Got a visual of that, katymine?

Just how much money did you win in that indian casino?
Anybody wanna bet that he *never* walked out a loser, like the rest of us mere mortals? The odds tend to change a bit for crooked Senators, I’d assume.
your video’s been snatched from the utubes :(
yay! thanks!
Well, if her responses to the questions were anything like the “what do you think about a ban on foreign sales of our oil” or the “what about the proximity to Russia gives you foreign policy experience” answers – I believe it.
She doesn’t know anything about these subjects. That can be cured. But when you don’t know anything and you try to bulls**t, and then you spit out these entirely and completely garbled paragraphs that wander all over the place and say worse than nothing…I don’t know if that CAN be fixed.
Suz, I just saw it…!
Per the NYT the swedes got equity for the money they put up to bail out their bankers. Why can’t that same scheme work in the U.S.? We simply buy up assets and/or equity at current market value.
Sorry…. it was a commercial and it wasn’t very nice because they were making fun of our governor ……..

did the forkers in the white van get to the utube folks just to fork with me?
I never told him about the freewayblogging thing ( it wasn’t like we were friends or anything) but I’m sure he would’ve approved. mightily.
obviously it sucks having such a great person gone, but it’s hard to be too sad about a life so well lived, y’know what i mean? I got to stay at his house once and believe me, he had one HELL of a memorabilia wall…
of course, lots of people have good lives, great lives, what have you – but damn few with that kind of class.
hell of a lot of really poor people were helped out by him. can’t help thinking that most of this world’s problems (war, poverty, social injustice…) would be solved if we could only convince the richest among us that they have enough money.

Thanks Suzanne.

glad you liked the toon boo
Busted!!!! ‘Sup . . . I haven’t had my say on the toobs about Paul Newman yet so I think I’ll follow yers . ..
What a hoss he was. And always will be.
As a movie person, ranks up there with the best of all time any genre.
As a general human, few have done so much for so many with such good heart.
Lofty, I know, but earned.
Bless him and Joanne, and the family.
83 trips around this sun with what he gave us all, is a hell of a ride.
Thanks, Mr. Newman. They race Le Mans every day up there . . . I’m sure you’ll win a lot of them, like you won our hearts and souls . . . thanks for the gifts.
i’ll ditch those slimy peeping toms in their nasty ole white van when i move to the new place this week.
very cool goodbye
but the Dem’s caved on the rules for the Veep debate (thanks, Rahm). No back and forth, like Friday’s, just short questions and answers.
In the history of debates, has anyone ever had a lower bar to cross? As long as she doesn’t speak in tongues…., hmm, scratch that – that could *help* with da Base…. She is going to have to be *incredibly* bad to really hurt herself.
And if Gwen Ifill doesn’t ask any follow-ups, she could maybe pull it off. Maybe? It could happen. Possibly?
Nah…..
hey larue
Suz, hell of a toon . . . somehow, I see bailouts, 30 or more years of Leo Strauss’ neokids, hope, and community all wrapped up in one in that one . . . course, it might be the merlot . . *G*

Hey did y’all know that Paul Newman was most proud of making Nixon’s enemies list? True. It was validation he was doing something right, he said!
I’m not liking SNL tonight…..
The WaPoo weighs in…
That is a good one!
Nope. Biden will be ready, patient, and gentlemanly while he lays out her departure from the national scene. She is going to get creamed.

Why?
Just imagine what a new administration can accomplish!Imagine and share.
i know what ya mean dood – i find myself standing on my clair clapping after each of his financial posts.
I always like your Saturday night tunes! It’s a really nice break from the week-long slogging we take. Much appreciated for both the break and the work that used to be done on cartoons.

How do ya make it do that?

In 1973, I went to a Nixon speech in Kansas City wearing a T-shirt that said “Enemy of the White House.”
It wasn’t true, however. I wasn’t on The List. Just wanted to be.
Now, every federal agency has a Monica Goodling with an enemies list on her computer. Standard procedure.
night Katy sleep well!
first TeeVee ad for “W” the movie…… who plans to see it? {{{{shutter}}}}
I think I discovered the reason Palin responds the way she does to questions. She is a former beauty pageant contestant and is’nt that the way they are trained, to ramble off these sentences that fill up the allotted time they are required to use to answer the final impromptu question they always ask in those contests like, “How would you end world hunger?” i think this is where she gets this from.
laughing
I will find the link, but the IG’s DOJ report comes out on Monday. It will be sundown for AbuG and his SchmuckBrigade. Some folks are going to jail, it there is any justice at all.
Must’ve missed that part. What I saw so badly skewered McShame that I thought it was hysterical! It had him as condescending, as nonsensical and as saying anything at all. Ending the skit with McLame saying “Because I don’t even care anymore!” It’s bound to be out in YouTube soon.
Palin would probably try to end world hunger by killing more moose and whale and polar bear and sending their carcasses to every corner of the globe until they were all extinct.
Then saying it was all part of God’s plan.
Please understand that conservatives control the congress. There are 233 Democrats and 202 Republicans in the House, but 47 of those Democrats are blue dogs. So we have 202+47 = 249 conservatives in the House, and only 186 centrists and liberals.
No, that woulda been the Falcon circa ‘60+ . . . we had one, the two door ‘61 Sedan.
I wanna talk disparagingly about it, but it ran a whole passle of little league games, bowling leagues, and kid related stuff for a long time for my mom . . . *G*
http://www.hubcapcafe.com/i/20…..rd6101.JPG
Maverick was much later . . . *G*
yeah, my family had a falcon too. a used one.
Maverick was either late 60s (like 1969) or early 70s.
Don’t think it lasted very long.
Some folks are going to jail, it there is any justice at all.
(doing best John Wayne voice)
“Well, that’s a mighty big “if” ya got there, pardner.”
Newman is a leader. Use the present tense. The body of his work on and off of screen stated the values he stands for. To honor him is to pick up that load and carry it along with him. He is a great humanitarian with empathy for all. Obama has that character and made the decision to pursue similar goals as Paul Newman. Using Paul’s legacy to pursue his goals as a Democrats would be a wise use of his contributions. Correct me if I am wrong.
I’m sure she’s got a cartoon to explicky. Maybe something out of Beauty and the Beast?
Nighters, katymine.
…yes, it would be a much better world…the rich have a case of money anorexia…when they see their bank balance it is never enough…
…A bloodless coup just occurred in the USA.
…It doesn’t matter what little bits they put in that bill to appease the average person…everybody but the top 1% is about to have their left ear screwed so badly that their brains are going to fall out…
…Keep up your freeway fun…good work…

my sister went off to school with a falcon. Steering wheel came off in her hands while she was driving. Mighta been better off with a corvair.
Nothing like a mustang IMHO. Absolutely inaccurate comparison.
In fact, I’d take an early model Falcon over any Maverick POS.
“Ford Maverick was a rear wheel drive compact car that was built from April 1969, through 1977 in the USA, Canada, Mexico and from 1973 to 1979 in Brazil.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Maverick_(Car)
“The Ford Pinto was a subcompact manufactured by the Ford Motor Company for the North American market, first introduced on September 11, 1970, and built through the 1980 model year. “
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Pinto
Pinto blew up in rear end collisions, cuz of their gas tank ‘imperfections’ . . . .
And Maverick was a POS for so many repair reasons it’s sick . . . shoulda been recalled, but it didn’t blow up in flames and kill people . . . it just malfunctioned and killed people . . .
Gimme a Falcon, or a Mustang, any day. *G*
I THINK The Falcon had a straight six in it at some 232 cubic inches, and you COULD put that lovely Ford 289 in it.
We all know what the Mustang’s had in them . . . I had a ‘65 in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s with the 289 HYPO Motor. Man, I miss that car . . *G*
ohmystars!
I’m wrong, Maverick WAS late 60’s and 70’s . . . my bad.
heh heh
my family had one of those, too

*hands on hips*
my older brother bought a Mustang engine and was planning to put it in our family falcon
but fortunately he figured out he didn’t know how to do it before he tore the falcon engine out
Plymouth Barracuda had ONE version that was a monster . . . forget what it was, but google will reveal. 400 cubic inch engine, 4 speed tranny . . . . not suitable for corners, but in a straight line . . . if I recall, it was too heavy to make it in the 1/4 strips . . . rendering it to a monster street machine stop light to stoplight . . *G*

I’d take 50% plus one, more than Bubba ever got.
But a mandate would be something special.
Hey! It is indeed looking like that. 583 is giving him FL, PA, OH, MI, and has IN at 49% for him. They’re predicting 318 to 220 in the electoral college.
Still McCain gets GA, NC, SC, the Gulf Coast, and everything west of the Mississippi except NV, NM, and the pacific coast states.
That’s a hard hit.
I sure loved mine.
Not to worry the Mav sports package was funny marketing stripes and decals on John Candy in track attire.
Found the other vid on Huff front page not so funny. But again I am over 70 just did 100 leg presses after a 24 hour juice fast, goin for 48 hours. Clean and mean.
Thanks hoss, but Paul was special, HE was teh kewl . . .
Him and Steve McQueen . . . . somehow they both got in my soul when I was young . . . and never left.
And Paul Newman . . . sigh. Great hoss.
Why some men have dogs and not wives…
1) The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you.
2) Dogs don’t notice if you call them by another dog’s name.
3) Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor.
4) A dog’s parents never visit.
5) You never have to wait for a dog; they’re ready to go 24/7.
6) Dogs find you amusing when you’re drunk.
7) A dog will not wake you at night and ask; “If I died, would you get another dog?”
8) If a dog has babies, you can put an ad in the paper and give them away.
9) If a dog smells another dog on you, they don’t get mad.
10) If a dog leaves, it won’t take half your stuff…! ;-)
Valiant was chysler’s best engine a slant 5 that would not quit.
Yep. Paul was the most understated cool, even more than Steve.
I saw Papillon just months before Steve passed.

May you squish many eclairs, for that reason . . . may we all get that squishy . . . . *G*
ok, pups, wall hit
thanks for hanging out with me tonight. i’ll see ya tomorrow nite – tis my week for sunday.

I am not a materialistic person…but…I loved that car.
The only good thing about losing it, is the fact that it was a bomb like the Pinto. Ford managed to keep that fact hidden for many years. I didn’t know about it until someone told me a few years, ago. So, I was lucky because my kids and I made many long trips together in that car.
Burn victims were bought off and silenced. A medal bar to protect the gas tank would have solved the problem.
Can’t remember who…some TV program interviewed some burn victims. Just like the Pinto. A rear end collision and boom.
nite suz
No har-dee-har? Aloha, Suz!
You military types have great courage. I admire your perspercasity and courage plus a 10 for humor.
Well, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Mr. Newman advanced his humanitarian ideals through his craft and made Americans better for it. If anyone could be “The Great Communicatot” it was Paul not Ronnie.

Green. ‘71. Mach 1. Very sweet.
Funny and true!
Good night, Suz.
Slant 6 hoss . . . parental units had a NEW ‘71 I ended up with at one point in my life.
It was a cop test model, with power steering and beefed up brakes and suspensions.
The bronze paint was horrid!!! LOLOLOLOL
Lasted with the same motor, tranny and drive train up to past 200K miles.
I sold it off for $500 in ‘98, I think . . . mighta been ‘99. It was hell here in Sacto, w/out AC. *G*
Out of all cars and trucks I’ve ever owned, if I had to get to work, that one puppy got me there with NO failures in my time with it . . . I think I had it for 10 years, too . . . . it was always there to run. Simple, easy, and safe.
They don’t make them like that, anymore . . .

One of the most underrated movies of all time . . .
Hoffman, and McQueen.
And a script and tale to break a spirit bar none other.
Another one McQueen did that tore me up hard when I saw it . . . and I still recall as an 9 or 10 year old or so, Exodus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exodus_(film)
And of course, McQueen in Sand Pebbles, one of the greatest movies ever done IMHO, was incredible.
But that’s what McQueen, Newman, and a handful of others did . . . . on that silver screen. Froze us, held us, and left us coming out of the theatre blinking and wondering, WTF . . . . we were changed from their performances.
And Mr. Newman, he took it offscreen, and changed people, places and lives for the better.
Emphasis added.
Presumably, you meant “slant 6.” An excellent engine. Very rugged and easy to work on. On my recommendation, my dad bought a 1960 Doge Dart with that engine, the first year it was out.
Hey, Suz (night, newtonsr)
It’s ridiculously late where I am, but I’ve had an exciting week, and I’m still awake.
I’m sad about Paul Newman. He quietly set about putting a quarter of a billion dollars into making the world better. I hope his family’s OK.
Best dreams, newt.
Gotcha.
My typo 6 not 5. I bought one in 79. Was easy to work on lotsa room to get to the timing belt. No glamour all go and good on gas. My dad had a dealership in Miami Shores.
I have the big ford 440 and had the big dodge 460 ( had it factory rebuilt. Pulled 4 cords of wet firewood up the bakc side of Tahoe. From a standing start in sand it wouild do a u turn with a loaded 16′ long 6′ high and wide enclosed trailer. The differential was low so all the power was applied in low gear. Hauled a lot up and down CA HWY 89 on black ice.
Sand Pebbles grabbed me too…he did a great swabbie. Yeah he also keep us coming back for more with our dollars. then turned around and gave it back. Where do we find another class act?
You could put that truck (1 ton) in low and ride the ice down the canyon. In Tahoe I stopped on the lake highway and the rig just slid sideways. Would never consider doing that again.
My tools started to get bigger which made maintaining the equipment more interesting. Heavier sockets and jacks. Cooper 10 ply tires still great.
Good morning.
