As soon as the name Levi Johnston (a.k.a. Bristol Palin’s baby daddy) hit the media, scrutiny soon followed; and much of it centered on his high-school hockey career. Reporters did what reporters do: Attempted to find anyone associated with Johnston, to interview them and fill in the blanks about the guy’s history. Easiest source: Wasilla High School’s boys’ ice hockey team, on which Johnston played.

Sadly, this connection has made things rather uncomfortable for the Wasilla Warriors coaches and players. Can’t Stop the Bleeding notes that the team’s Web site has been stripped of rosters, photos and player information just over a month before practices begin.

The Wasilla hockey site’s editor writes: “I am sorry for any photos or information that slipped out to the media before I locked up this information. Once the media tires of Wasilla, I will return the website to its fullest and we can all move forward with the new season.” (Geez, what if she’s elected?)

Please note the irony in that Wasilla High School’s official Web site has a Gov. Sarah Palin photo gallery and is promoting a class trip to Washington, D.C. for election night. And then acknowledge how unfortunate it is that a bunch of hockey players with a tangential at best connection to a national news story (Johnston was being home-schooled, for goodness sake) were probably fielding phone calls from the National Enquirer.

Vote for Obama/Biden

The time has come when I should say that I wll vote for the Democratic Party ticket and urge others to do the same.

Senator Obama is more to the left than I would like, but Senator McCain’s patently erratic character and bellicosity are more risk than I can vote for in the context of the present world situation. His discomfort with domestic issues adds to my conviction.

I think Obama has the intellect and the character to be president.

Sarah Palin? She does not know enough to be trusted with the presidency any tme soon.

For what it is worth, I would like to see an Obama cabinet that includes Senator Hagel, probably at Defense. At the same time I think Obama would be wise to appoint Bill Clinton to be ambassador to the UN and Senator Clinton to the Supreme Court. pl

I have to release my medical records to get insurance, to get hospital privileges and for things of far lesser import than seeking the presidency of this country. I am a registered Republican. As a dermatologist with over 20 years of experience, I would have to believe that there is a very significant probability that McCain will die of his melanoma, probably within the next few years. As I understand it, his first episode was in 1992, and he has had a total of 4 melanomas, one of which was deep enough to require a lymph node dissection. My experience has been that patients whose immune system clearly does not fight off melanoma (I’ve never had any patient who had more than 2 once we began observing them closely with consistent skin checks, as I know McCain gets), and eventually die of their melanoma, especially when it has been on the head or neck. Everything may seem to be fine for 5-10 years, then all of a sudden all the micrometastases reach critical mass, and there are lesions in the brain, bone and lungs – and the person is dead within three months. – Laura E.
