There seems to be a bi-partisan consensus that McSame should unsuspend his campaign immediately.
Sen. McCain "goes to a meeting and all of a sudden, we lose all the Republicans who have been working with us for the last five days," said Rep. Ellen Tauscher, a California Democrat.
And,
Some Republicans including Utah’s Robert Bennett, who had been a vocal supporter of the earlier tentative agreement, appeared unhappy. "They weren’t too happy with McCain," said one aide to Sen. McCain.
And,
“He’s slowed it down,” Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., said of McCain’s impact on the negotiations. “The next thing we know…he’s making it harder to get things done, rather than help us negotiate differences.”
And,
Several Republicans, meanwhile, said they were unsure what their party’s nominee was doing. "The rank and file hasn’t heard or seen anything," said North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx.
And,
At one point, several minutes into the session, Obama said it was time to hear from McCain. According to a Republican who was there, "all he said was, ‘I support the principles that House Republicans are fighting for.’"
Now that his services are no longer needed, McSame is headed to Mississippi for the debate.

Fitz!
Dodd forceful and livid about the McCain buttinsky stunt this a.m. on Imus.
Methinks with a strong emphasis on butt.
Worthless git. Period.
Has Dana Perino been tutoring Palin?
Bend Over America
“During a speech on the Senate floor this morning, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D) urged President Bush to “respectfully tell Sen. McCain to get out of town. He’s not helping.”

Hi BT,
Well McShame has gotten a message. Backsdown, will be in Oxford tonight. They are working together in DC. Wouldn’t a day by day run down of his bloviating be informative
Raven
What are you hearing in Ga. about the election? Any chance there for Obama?
‘I support the principles that House Republicans are fighting for.’”
Any word as to whether he’s read Paulson’s original plan yet?
Everyone vs. the House Republicans–the media are choosing to frame instead as partisan dem vs. republican.
Mr. S. thinks we’re seeing the birth pangs of a third-conservative–party and it’s an interesting story on that level…but media still mired in old DvR world.
Why did the McChicken cross the road you ask?
Because the debate was going to be held even if he didn’t show up.
because nothing is more important than making a political point.
if schumer wanted to help, he’d join mccain on a long trip out of town.
They think maybe Barr will siphon off enough votes from the real nut cases to give him a shot.
Assets and/or equity, nobody gets bailed out for free.
A fail so epic, it’s almost a win.
The only reason the bailout is pegged at $700 billion is because they didn’t want to say $6 trillion, the amount it might really take to solve the entire problem.
I pulled that number out of my ass – but unlike the Treasury or the FED, at least I admit it.
Epic fail, indeed.
Rachel quoted some official last night as saying “we just picked a really big number”!
Well, that was a humiliating failure of a political stunt for McCain, wasn’t it?
Wasn’t that a stunning admission!
Unless the goal was simply to throw up dirt in the face of the Palin interview and the Davis news.
Flip flopper flips flops on flip flop. Will attend debate.
Shorter Obama: “Political Statesmanship.”
Shorter McSame: “Political Stuntsmanship.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: McBush is the best spokesman our side has!
Boxturtle (Think about it over breakfast, it’ll make the bacon taste better)
“McCain Inserts Self”
Wow! I didn’t know he’d been doing Pilates!
I think this represents an investment opportunity in KY jelly.
The following is a list of things that McShame hasn’t blundered.
1.
I would hope any non-racist independent voter would’ve seen all they need to see from this knucklehead by now.
Palin’s the disaster that keeps on giving. (Don’t miss the hand gesture she does in the Couric interview as she says “Putin rears his head and come into American airspace…” it’s like the one Burt used to use to become invisible on “Soap”)
And this grandstanding on the bailout issue should be the last straw.
Pig-Missile up – reassuring the hell outta *me*….
I think he will be furious tonight and totally off his game (if he’s ever on it). He’s getting terrible press today and will probably blow it big time.
It’s a 2 page plan. Even Bush hasn’t been able to get through it yet.
Nah, they’ll tranq him so much the bigger danger is he’ll keel over asleep.
Can we call for drug tests at the debate?
Flip flopper flips flops on flip flop. Will attend debate.
And continue
flip floppingflailing. And then blame his poor performance on all that saving-of-the-economy he was *forced* to do.
My fear is that will so lower expectations for him that if his head doesn’t turn around in a 360 degree radius and spew green pea soup like in the Exorcist, then all the pundits will say “well, he didn’t lose it! That’s a win.”
Lowering the bar below W’s craptastic showing would be quite a feat, but they seem to be trying to do just that…
We’re on the Road to Nowhere!
McCain wishes to take a pass on any non Town Hall style questions.
I cannot wait for this debate! Long ‘ol time coming.
Yeah, I’m worried that McCain is going to do well tonight, too. Obama has a tendency to ramble.
LOL
Way to go Johnny McSame, your grandstanding during the middle of a major crises was real helpful!
Having another one of your senior moments?
Can we call for drug tests at the debate?
You have any idea how long it could take for McGramps to dribble enough urine into a cup to provide a testable sample?
All subsequent debates might have to be pushed back.
They slipped on a book cover of My Pet Goat trying to trick him.
What kinds can we test? I need one for Exploding Heads.
Ol’ Snake-eyes McShamed crashed another one.
They could always go with a blood test. I guess the problem there is that might prove he really is a zombie…
Has Johnny been getting into his wifes stash?
According to what I read here, there are a total of $11.1T U.S. mortgages of which one percent ($111B) are in default.
Absolutely true. A major crash and burn.
Well I was almost looking forward to a debate tonite without McSame’s tourette’s-like barking of POW experiences. Fewer issues will be covered and less information will result from McSame’s presence than from his absence, imo.
bom dia pups
at the food bank this morning getting stuff ready for the folks this weeked. I hope that everyone had a peaceful and energizing rest last night.
They could always go with a blood test.
Can blood be pulled from varicose veins?
I really would like to see a drug test, and suggested the same a few days ago. Wanna see if McGramps has anything along the lines of amphetamines and/or painkillers….
McCain’s statement to the press:
“Senator McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans.”
Roy Blunt is not on the House Banking Committee. My guess is he knows jack shit about finance issues.
Anybody making book on whether McShame will explode in a fit of temper. I wonder if words, “Have you had a chance to read the offer from Paulson yet?” will be heard. If I were Obama, that would be my first question to McLame!
He caved, so does that make him a cave-man?
What did McCain gain? Sure he had Rick Davis and Sarah Palin – for the most part – out of the limelight for a few days, but the sacrifices of looking petty, deranged, strange, out of touch, and, most importantly, showing up with tail between his legs are so great that I don’t see him gaining any strategic advantage.
Obama needs to sink him in debate tonight.
I admit that I know absolutely nothing about physics….nil. So, I’ll be leading the next big research project on nuclear fusion, or fission or whatever. That makes just about the same sense that McCain, who admittedly doesn’t understand the economy makes in trying to solve this situation. Go visit with Lieberman and plan something for Israel. Or you and Lindsey Graham can go off and….do whatever it is that you and Lindsey do.
The mortgage issue is one piece of a much larger problem. Everyone understands that there is no money for Social Security OR Medicare – and that the valuations on the companies trading on the “market” are all inflated. The books have been cooked across the board, and we haven’t seen a REAL economic number out of the government in over a decade.
Unemployment and public sentiment are nowhere near what the government would have you believe.
Read somewhere last night that Obama would not have been allowed to speak alone. The Commission on Debates said that would be an in-kind donation to Obama and they were not allowed to do it.
Okay, now that McCain has said he’s going to the debate, it’s time for him to throw more chaff?
Any guesses what it will be?
He gained zilch. People saw it for what it was — a stunt.
And now he leaves without accomplishing shit, while backpedaling on his initial reason for “suspending.”
Fucking mess over there.
Am I speaking the obvious if I say that this whole stunt was an attempt to stop the veep debate? That was the motivation, imho. It didn’t work. Now, what will they do since there’s no way Palin can show up for the debate? Forget Biden, she won’t be able to answer any of the questions intelligently.
His mommy won’t let him go ’cause he has the sniffles. :)
This won’t be a true debate! You can’t have a “DEBATE” With self serving Dimwit like McCain. He doesn’t have the intellect to compete with Obama at any level. I mean his only comment at “The Meeting” all he says is “He supports the rethuglian Congressional members” WTF How fucking dumb can he really be??
Wasabi:
Roy Blunt understands the economics of corruption. He and his family are busy bilking Missouri and the U.S. on every front. His son, who is about the size of Minime, was a disaster as our governor. He is leaving office to join his brother as a lobbyist. He can’t pound sand.
The old man is up to his eyebrows in questionable.
Watching Obama comment on the bailout last night, I was reminded that his style isn’t really all that great for sound bites. He’s still professorial rather than aggressive with short, to-the-point comments. I’m not taking anything for granted.
All day yesterday the song running through my head was “Jim Dandy to the Rescue.” Showing my age.
I can’t wait for tonights debate , McSames not gonna get by on talking points alone his answers are gonna have to have ,some substance.
I wonder how many times he’ll say “I was a pow my friends”
Via TPM
I am so not surprised.
I agree with that assessment — he changed the topic again — not totally successful but with some success.
And if I were the Dems, I’d wait for McCain to get to Mississippi, and then I would hold up negotiating a deal until at least Monday — then McCain loses for sure. Right now he still has a chance. But if he goes back on his word and their is no deal this weekend — he will look like the loser. We can only hope they have some sense to strategize for themselves instead of always being used by the other side.
Ya mean this one!
Which means of course he will declare it a victory and all worthwhile.
100? 200? 300? aw shit I have lost count already!!
Per Dan Balz in his WaPo “The Trail” blog today:
[snip]
Ha ha ha ha. Thanks, I hadn’t thought about that one in a long time.
Here it is.
Looseheadprop has a sparkling new post up entitled: “If you or I did something like this, they’d call it moneylaundering”
hugs wobbly, thank you for all you do!
i’m looking forward to the debate.
That’s the one – thanks.
No song running through my head, instead I keep thinking of the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” episode where Larry uses the death of his mother to get out of all his unpleasant obligations. Over and over, “I would, but my mother just died.”
With Roy Blunt in charge of the negotiations on the House side, you can take it to the bank that there won’t be a quick resolution.
but it’s all good. mcCain is going to win:
McCain has a note from mommy!
You can’t be talking about John “reach across the aisle” McCain, the famously bipartisan senator from Arizona. No, no, he wouldn’t blindly endorse a half-baked plan put together at the last minute that he hadn’t seen just because it was what the Republicans in the House were using to thump the table.
After all, Senator “why can’t we all just get along, you c***s” McCain takes careful, well-considered action — witness that he’d had the weighty 3-page Paulson plan for two days earlier this week and still wasn’t prepared to commit to a judgement. Once he’d been told what the plan was, he brilliantly suspended his campaign at the same time as continuing to run it — imagine, both running a campaign and not running it at the same time, doesn’t that show what a magnificent multi-tasker he is?
(sent on behalf of the Draft Tucker Bounds for WH Press Secretary campaign)
((Margot))
I as well, though I might miss them tonight to go support my cousin’s high schoool football game tonight. If I happen to be around, I’ll be here withthe rest of you watchingthe debate
Isn’t it just like a guy who slogans his campaign with, ” Country First “.
He just doesn’t tell us what country comes first? His campaign’s own Phil Graham wants his bosses bank UBS bailed out and it is not a U.S. bank.
But maybe, just maybe Palin/McCain are putting country first. They don’t say Americans or America first?
It isn’t a lie if they mean Hannity’s America, Wall Street’s America, Bush’s Country (club) America? Their simply not clear on message.
What country comes first with the Republicans?
