Low expectations or screwball comedy?
The debate on Friday was to focus on Mr. McCain’s perceived strength, foreign policy. Mr. McCain had not planned to devote large blocks of time to debate practice as did Mr. Obama, who was holing up with a tight circle of advisers at a hotel in Clearwater, Fla., on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to prepare. Mr. McCain had a preparatory session on Wednesday afternoon at the Morgan Library in Manhattan, but advisers said it had been interrupted by his decision, announced immediately afterward, to suspend his campaign.
"I don’t wanna do this anymore, let’s come up with an excuse. Get to work on an excuse, one of you various and sundry Tuckers, I employ!"
Now this information was clearly leaked by either a disgruntled Tucker or a weaselly Tucker playing the expectations game. There are so many Tuckers it is hard to truly know.
Meanwhile, another random Tucker is weaseling to try to get Sarah Palin out of a debate, having accomplished the dubious feat of being outwitted by Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric. "Unprepared, non-vetted, patronized, shallow ideologues rock!"

I have been wondering for some time now if everyone with the name Tucker is an a**hole?? It would appear so.
A foreign policy debate would be like lipstick on a pig when Congress is about to give 700 billion Dollars to the Banks. I don’t see any debate Moderator staying on topic about foreign policy in that atmosphere.
I see a lot of Foreign Policy questions being asked like just how can we afford a war and a 700 billion or MORE bailout without raising taxes.
Naturally McCain is stalling for time and praying a real game changer happens, but what besides a Coup could save him now?
Also are gas prices still high in the South thanks to the Hurricane? That cannot be good for Bush in the polls. The South was McCain’s last hope.
Tucker Carlson is working for McCain now? Er Openly working for McCain now?

At the end Palin says “I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring ‘em to ya”. ..bring ‘em to ya..Does she always talk like that? Just curious..I don’t watch her on tv because her voice is like 1,000 fingernails on chalkboards.

Here’s me thinking its early for the October surprise, but not by much.
How come “they” have been working on this “problem” for months, and have only two nebulous pages to show for it?
Where is it written that there will be a second chance to get things right? Those fools wanting a second coming are in for a shock, methinks it will not be “Jesus – Take Two” if all have screwed up take one.

1) Who said McCain is strong on Foreign Policy?
a) Still confusing Sunni and Shia despite America being at war for how many years?
b) McCain says that we are all Georgians now the President of Georgia however says that is nice but he would prefer some help. Now is Russia leaving Georgia despite all McCain’s help?
c) McCain says that he knows how to win wars, I wonder why he hasn’t told President Bush the Secrete yet?
2) Name any foreign policy success McCain has had ever?
3) Does any one really think that McCain was going to study hard for the debates?
a) Was McCain going to study for the Debates as hard as he vetted Sarah Palin?
b) Was McCain going to study for the debates with the same shrewd thinking that made him pick Phil Gramm and Carly Fiorina as his economics advisers?
c) was he going to study extra hard to make sure that he didn’t say another the fundamentals of the economy are strong gaffe right before Bush starts begging for a $700 billion bailout?

Not me I can’t watch her for more than a few minutes. I can’t watch Fox at all and Frankly I do not see why I have to pay for Fox News, CNN with Lou Dobbs, or CNN headline news with Glenn Beck just because I want to see Rachel and Bill Mahr.

1) I think John McCain wants to try and skip the debate (yes thats obvious)
2) I think that McCain wants to claim credit for any deal reached on Friday by claiming that halting his campaign and twisting arms in Washington created the deal.
a) McCain is not on Dodds Committee so he will not even be in the room when any deal is made.
b) Given the very real possibility that even with a Good Deal the market and banks will still tank thanks to Bush waiting so long to tell us his economy sucks.
Why Would McCain want credit for this deal?

Now I’m gunna go out on a limb here and maybe all my “community organizing” and canvasing for Obama and doin’ block meetings has blown me up with a lotta “wannabe” or out of control optimism but I really think that the Democratic Party folks especially in the House and the emmerging new leadership in the Senate are playin’ this thing out and coordinating with Obama. I don’t think there is gunna be much more’n $150million in the immediate authorization with a promise of budget authority for more with strings and Congressional “okie doke”. The longer this goes the more the people of the country begin ta understand that there is no immediate crisis and when the opposition to the $700 million figure gets over 50% the Democrats are gunna bring the hammer down and put McCrazy outta business.
One of the positives comin outta this process is the emmergence of new leadership in the Senate behind, Dodd, Sherrod Brown and Durbin. The old corporatists includin Pelosi and Hoyer have been “disappeared” for this one.

It’s cool and clear this morning in central Jersey, with rain coming tonight and staying for several days.
OMG. Where to begin? McSame is cracking up on national teevee. It’s bizarro-world right now. He knows he’ll get clobbered in the debate with Obama. He knows Palin will get clobbered in the debate with Biden. So, in spite of the bad press coverage, he feels he has to do this. But leaders don’t do this. He’s punting this just like he’s punted everything in his political career. He’s just doing it with many, many more people watching this time.
There’s been some really helpful financial writing in the past few days, starting with a great piece in NY Times by David Leonhardt. And Paul Krugman’s blog at the Times has been essential reading.
From the looks of the bailout plan being crafted in the joint economic committee [check out some info over at TPM (they had a PDF of an early draft, but that’s been taken down; don’t know exactly what form it will finally take)], Congress is working out something that won’t cost as much as Hanky Panky and Helicopter Ben want us to pay, that has Dodd’s warrants idea [we help out Bank X to the tune of $$$ and get warrants to receive stock in the amount of $$$, so that when Bank X emerges from the rubble, we, the American taxpayers, have something of value for bailing out Bank X].
McSame is irrelevant. But the Dems on the Hill don’t want to vote for the bailout of the great sh*tpile, only to have him demagogue the issue in the less than six weeks remaining in the campaign. So there were cries yesterday that McSame has to vote for this package–or the Dems won’t pass it. No wonder he’s suspended his campaign. It was the only thing he’d be able to run on, and the Dems won’t let him do it. He has to go back to the Senate and try to look like Mr. Bipartisanship. It’s his only hope.

BTW, that “one instance” of McCain supprting greater regulation is bullshot. There was a great summary in Daily Kos. Bill was introduced in 2005. Was sent to committee. A reprt came out in 2006 critical of Fannie & Freddie. In May 2006, McCain gets off his ass, reads some of the report into the record and co-sponsors this bill which has been sitting in committee for a year. And please note the dates. When they say the Democrtas killed this bill, this all happened (2005-mid 2006) when the Republicans still controlled the Senate. I’ll look for the Kos link. You won’t hear this being refuted much. No why? There’s so much bullshit put out there by Mccain and Palin, Obama-Biden simply can’t refute it all. Seriously.

NPR did a piece last night on McCain’s “Time Out” and in the report Mara Liasson implied that it was a savy and smart move by McCain and that he had once again taken the momemtum away from Obama. How long must NPR listeners suffer the idiocy of “reporters” of Liasson’s ilk? I really wish people would stop funding NPR. It’s zenith days was during Watergate and it has reaced it’s nader during the last 8 years.

Drove east to west ends of NC early in the week. Highest I saw on regular was $4.29 down to $3.79. The price is less a problem than being able to find any to buy! During the week stations have either been out or distributors are only delivering partial shipments which then result in long lines and empty pumps within a short period of time. I’m planning to head back east tomorrow and am pretty worried making it 400 miles trying to find places to top off along the trip. The upside is having a car with beer taste vs. champagne…….but it’ll drink the good stuff in a pinch. *g*

McCain too Distraught and Overwhelmed by economic crisis to debate and explain to the American people what clear ideas and solutions he has to handle this crisis. May be McCain is unable to handle the stress and is having a senior moment, because when you are President of the United States, there is no rest for the weary, and you are always on Call!
Or, is McCain really being dirty and underhanded, trying to pull the wool out from under Barack’s feet, when he reached out to him early Wedensday morning in a bi-partisan moment, so together they could show solidarity and release a Joint Statement, however, McCain did not like that idea and decidied to bring politics into an already unsteady situation in an attempt to aid his political career, pretending that it was he who reached out to Barack and not the otherway around! However, that was not good enough, he must one-up him and cancel the campaign all together, the crisis is so great, a sudden change of heart that makes McCain look phony and untrustworthy. That is not putting Country first, but we already know that by his Pallin pick!
And, of course, the debates should not be cancelled. A President has to be able to multi-task, big time! McCain’s cancelling looks more like a senior moment or that he is too overwhelmed and distraught to be albe to explain to the country just what he would do to address this problem. Maybe McCain will not be able to answer that 3:00 a.m. phone call as a President is always on call.
