- McSame wimps out.
- And so does Palin.
- But Bush comes to their rescue!
- Of course, no one cares what Bush says.
- And only 10% of Americans think the debate should be postponed.
- Here’s why McSame flipped over the game board.
- Does she ask his permission to go to the bathroom, too?
- "I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring ‘em to ya."
- Stupid Democrats.

About Firedoglake
Morning :)
I’ll go open the Digg for folks… brb :)
I love it. From the link above about Bush’s approval rating:
I agree! The only military coup I would accept right now would be our military putting a stop to the criminals in the White House! Yep. Hold them hostage, arrest them, and then give the country back to the people! We don’t need George Bush & Dick Cheney now or until January 2009 to run our country. They’ve done nothing but ruin it anyways, so take them out of power and put them in prison!
Hey all, here’s an email I received from Mike Huckabee yesterday.
huckabee uses words like “swill”?
Thanks Noonan for the insight.
The neocons in the House & Senate are gearing up to vote against anything that is proposed because they want the Democrats to overwhelmingly support a bailout. I hope the Democrats are onto this. If not, then I’m afraid this will hurt Obama, even if he votes against it and it still passes.
from your link:
Yep, she’s Bush in a skirt.
http://www.tatteredcoat.com/im…..-break.jpg
with no respect for populism, or even their own constituents, the dems are playing a very dangerous game.
McCain cut and ran! The Republican party is a bunch of cut-’n’-runners!
Had Herbert Hoover suspended his campaign in 1932 against FDR he might have weathered the economic “crisis” he and his fellow Republicans created.
Here comes the first clash between the citizens and the banksters – in the streets – this afternoon:
http://www.indypendent.org/200…..y-at-4-pm/
The resulting visuals of middle-aged men and women being held back from banksters by armed military thugs on Wall Street should be highly disturbing to the majority of Americans – and send reverberations worldwide.
Martial Law cometh. The banksters will be the first to demand it.
Obama shoots scores and wins. Bailout coupled w/repeal of gramms sneak attack deregulation bill and make derivatives illegal and therefore unenforceable.
We need to see the list of bad debts and who gains BEFORE we cut the check.
Good Morning all,
It is looking like McShame is not intending to attend the debate. If he is a no show he heeds to be shadowed by the press. If he goes to drain his bladder bag it should be reported, if he is in his office snoozing report it. Why is he in NY now why. They don’t have black jack tables in NY do they?
Let them eat moose!
The corporate MSM will likely spin this as McCain being mavericky and a brilliant move on his part. NPR’s Mara Liasson implied this last night.
If the blackwater blackshirts are on the streets to protect the wankers from the masses maybe, just maybe, it will get the masses off their asses and onto the streets by the million. Well anyway I am keeping my fingers crossed.
The idea of obama debating with an empty chair is hilarious.
My take. If Palin is so fucking ready why not send her to the debate?
And only 10% of Americans think the debate should be postponed.
The MSM on their best day could not move those numbers up by Friday McCain will go to the debate.
Or he really really is scared of Obama and is afraid that debating Obama might leave him at 10% support.
If that is so then expect no debates this election at all.
On CNN somebody said that debates take lots of preparation and that would be a hardship for McCain. He has touted himself as a foreign policy expert so how much prep does he need?
has obama called for either of those things be coupled with the bailout? i thought he was doing just the opposite – giving in on even providing help to people facing foreclosure (from the AP)
Red State thinks that is a great idea. All she would say is John McCain is a real leader blah, blah, blah, and she would say ya.
Kanjorski was just on CNBC claiming that there was a deal, both house & senate, & they had to votes to pass it.
So he hasn’t been preparing at all before yesterday?
Not credible, CNN.
damn.
All the preparation in the world can’t help someone that has CRS. Can this guy walk and chew at the same time – can he talk without someone keeping him straight
Three months from today is Christmas
If, as expected, obama wimps on this he will lose a load more support among those that were wavering after the previous raft of capitulations. A bailout for the bankers will be perceived as a sell out by obama. QED
McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW.
He had no gum for five years.
McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW. McCain was a POW.
do the dems do nothing but cave and and give cover to R power grabs and fuck ups that cause unnecessary hardship and harm to millions of people.
The rest of what Kanjorski said is that the bill would be passed before the markets open on Monday. Stock futures went up on his announcement.
The Democrats are in a perfect position right now, because they could be using the ole republic excuse from the past 8 years:
“The Wall Street crash & the companies involved are being investigated by the FBI right now and we will not act or make comment until we get a good idea of what actually happened.”
Seems like a last ditch effort to empty the treasury so the next pres will have zero funds for healthcare..among other things.
I thought this would be a great place to ask, what is up with John McCain’s left eye? I caught this from Atrios first, and then Cliff Schechter. Then I oogled and found a bunch of people talking about it. Is this a real medical thing, or does John McCain just have some minor eye irritation?
Everyone points out he’s paying $5000 a pop for makeup now.
That seems odd…
Trust me, you want a deal.
Hold your nose if you (we) must, but you want a deal.
CNBC reports that the exec comp thing is so vague it probably doesn’t mean anything, which is why Treasury is willing to go along with it.
huckabee again uses his popularist tone to make rediculous and insane suggstions;
yea, right…maybe eliminate those gains on the middle class, but reward the investors who caused this problem and give them even MORE of our money?
errrr
that would be a no
Bush the loved, he is not! Check this out .. :) ;)

from DN! (my paraphrase)
once this bill is passed, the chance for real regulation to make the financial institutions accountable is gone.
instead we have conceded to a corporate state, government run by private economic power represented by people like paulson.
Morning Joe would be a much better show without Joe.
I don’t need to hear Peggy (soaring rhetoric) Noonan, either.
She’s soooo in love with the sound of her own voice.
the kind of trust you advocate – conceding my ability to think and judge for myself (as small and flawed as that may be), is to advocate against self government or any kind of democracy.
i welcome your arguments to convince me. i reject your call to stop trying to think.
Hatch blowin’ smoke up Imus’ ass this morning, saying the problem’s all Freddy and Fannie since 1999 and Clinton made ‘em do it. It was all those mortgages for po’ people….
Subtext: sickening
We haven’t had a fiscally conservative majority….
What a douchebag.
which is in fact musilini’s definition of fascism I might add
follow along here;
1)bush last nite had the same look he had while reading my pet goat upside down
2) mccain declares this enough of an “emergency” to “suspend his campaign”
3) the media is starting to fall behind this claim
4) paulson “claims” these agreements can be revisited with the next administration but we “must act fast on this”
5) directive 51
need I say more for you to don your tin foil bullet proof vests?
thanks for cnbc news. please keep it coming. much appreciated.
6) the dems provide nothing but cover for this
Do not agree. If the free market is all so bloody wonderful let it save itself, if it is not let it go to hell in a hand basket. The rest of us are fucked anyway, according to Paulsen, so why should we give a wet noodle about bailing out the free market?
I would feel bad if he has brain cancer and is dying before our eyes, but what I don’t like is this man and his sidekick Pom Pom acting as if everything is fine and dandy! These assholes need to be honest with us. If he’s sick, suffered a stroke, or is dying, Americans need to know because a good portion of us are terrified of Palin taking over the reins if McCain & Co. steal the White House for them!
Clinton on CNN:
Obama and the Democrats will do better for Americans, Dems always have. Congress should take a day or two and make sure this plan helps the economy not bail out the undeserving.
yes, I did change channels, why do you ask?
Huck is just trying to get some attention because after the election the GOP will be looking for another Reagen to lead them out of the wilderness.
That catfight should be worth watching. Everybody will supporting Bush/McCain now will be denying it and saying they tried to stop them.
Every GOPer with future dreams of being President will vote against this bailout.

I think STTPin Ohio was going for Snark?
Olympia Snowe is on MSNBC right now. She and Sen. Susan Collins are very good at giving a good interview and then voting against what they just said. I don’t trust ANY REPUBLICAN to do the right thing for Americans and this includes Olympia.
I’ve watched Sen. Suzie-Q Collins on the floor of the Senate watching to see how a particular vote is going down. If the republicans have “won it”, then she will vote against it, but if she sees they need her help, she will vote along with them. She’s evil! This is how she sustains her “She’s a moderate” stance. Nothing but deceit and deception. Olympia was like this until the 2006 election. She has now decided Mainers want her to do the right thing. Spit. I wouldn’t trust either one to take care of my dog.
Okay, going to work. Have a great day everyone! ;-)
This too is brilliant. .:)

Swim Note: Dodd will be on Imus tomorrow.
Prairie’s Bailout Fix — Every billionaire in America chip in a billion and bailout their cronies if they think this is so vital.
Jee-bus the scheiss is thick out there…we just don’t believe these bozos any more. At all.
A friend mentioned that it could be a bad botox treatment around the eyes. I saw a short clip of his
concessionmove the debate, I’m not ready, speech yesterday and his eye does not look good. Kerry had baggy, tired eyes and the media talked about it 24/7 but McCain seriously does not look good and they ignore it.That is silly talk. Bailout is needed. The Q is what kind, not whether. And you won’t be better off if no bailout is done.
Saw the Palin interview with Curic late last night. Painful to watch, very weak, even Palin’s non-answers were very lame. can you imagine her as VP having to vote a tie-breaker in the Senate, say on a North Korea problem? “Let’s see, I can see Russia from my house, that must mean Korea is west of Russia, right? Now what are those pesky Koreans up to; isn’t Korea our friend? You guys called me here to vote on this, I don’t know if that’s in my job description – what is it that the VP does again?”
Sarah Palin – ready on day 1460 (Clusless on Day 1). Makes a pretty good 527 TV ad, don’t you think?
That’s what’s keeping me up nights.
hey STTPin Ohio -if that’s so, my apologies. snark meter is complete broken.
Good Morning Firedogs,
I agree with Bowers that if Obama shows up and McCain doesn’t it will hurt McGimmick
but despite the polling, Palin, and Davis – I think the minute the campaign heard all those little ankle biter goopers tell Cheney no, the campaign saw an opening -
He could go to DC and try to look like a Whip so if it was voted for, he could take credit, and if it didn’t pass, he could say he gave it his all (oh and went against his Party – how Mavericky)but “the ideologues” won out
why do you think we’ll be better off with the bail out?
Except that in THIS particular case, it is mainly generals that have tried and tried again to put the brakes on war war and more war, on longer deployments, and on firing up a new Cold War with Russia.
The high bar is now set by the previous low bar setters: the generals.
I send my pittance to Allen every month, here is hoping…
I posted this earlier…I saw this kind of face and eye problem when my dad was dying of brain and neck cancer. He suffered speech and memory problems after receiving radiation treatments. It might not be cancer, but something is changing rapidly…I doubt he will be here next year.
I would never, ever suggest such a thing.
I’ve gone into lots of detail about why I think a deal is necessary in other threads; I type too slow to repeat them here.
Basically it comes down to many unintended and negative consequences that will hurt you and I far more than the “rich guys” we’re saving.
If I see you around later today I’ll be glad to repeat them later.
I wonder what would sink Bush’s polls more passing or not passing this bailout as he wants it?
Doing nothing for right now or just giving Paulson enough to get by until after the election is Obama’s best bet.
So isn’t Paulson kind of like a character from M.A.S.H.?
He’s Corporate Klinger bucking for a Section 8.
I won’t be better off if it is done that is for dead certain.
No bailout necessary. What needs to happen is let them fail, those that are set to fail, and let other buyers come in and buy up what remains of any value. Just like Lehman Brothers.
Second best: don’t bailout, offer loans that will be paid back with interest before they can pay dividends or hand out bonuses.
Third best: buy stocks in the firms rather than simply hand them OUR money for free.
Regardless, CEO compensation must be hacked away and as Sen Brownback himself said, “their golden parachutes need to be lead ballooned”.
oh and ps.
I think the idea of discussing ‘the global economy’ as he would have to in a Foreign Policy debate scared the crap outta him – think he was counting on putting it in full Reagan mode, making him sound even more outta touch
Because the financial system is frozen (owing to financial corps deleveraging and lack of info about what some of the fancy new instruments are worth), and if that continues the overall economy is really in trouble.
The economy is in trouble even with the bailout, but it would be the first step in a recovery.
I’m seeing a little sign of loosening up in fixed income markets on the news of a deal, but don’t think it will happen to the extent necessary without a deal.
I bow to your expertise but I think we do need some cleaning out but maybe not a hard landing. A complete bailout could create another bubble in the market and leave the rest of us with an unsustainable debt that will take decades to correct.
my apologies. and my thanks for your very kind reply. i know you better than to have written what i did. wish i could take it back.
Not sure why we would choose to go along with a liquidity fix for a solvency problem to rescue an economic model that has no chance what so ever of succeeding. And more importantly, has now been proven a failure.
Do not agree that this is as dire a situation as is being claimed.
You won’t be better off if it is done, you’ll be worse off if it isn’t. Don’t know your personal circumstances, so that is a generic you, not a personal you.
He’s Colonel Klink. You are looking at the wrong show.
Evidence?
Here’s a thought on the Mike Huckerbee? appearance.
1. He is talking sense from a true Republican point of view.
2. He is still a nominee, suspended campaign.
3. The Repugs are only ’supporting’ (barely) McCain through lack of choice.
4. Mike comes across as a good ol’ boy, you could have a beer with him, christian man and all, a VALID choice for those who were looking for a ‘real’ Republican Candidate..
Things could get really interesting(er)..:)
Always remember:
this is a bailout for investment banks
community banks are all still hard at work busily lending each other money and surviving…
..and Nancy becomes president…OMG…
But she is quilty of war crimes, too, because she knew about the torture. So, if she is arrested, who becomes the president?
If the criminals…and their enablers are arrested, there won’t be many left in the White House..which might be a good thing!
Really? Frozen you say? Then how come I STILL get offers up the ying-yang for credit cards, home equity loans, and re-fi offers? Why are the trash sub-prime loans STILL being offered? Why is it I can go to my bank today and get a loan for almost anything?
Wall Street is NOT the economy. That is the biggest problem in government right now, their false belief that Wall Street and the stock market ARE the economy. When stocks are up, they all think the economy is good, even though earnings are flat to declining for real human beings (sorry, I exclude the wealthy from that category as a rule), healthcare costs are soaring, food prices climbing, etc. Wall Street has barely a passing acquaintance with the actual economy and should be largely ignored.
That’s where I come from as well.
This is a ‘lesser of two evils’ position they have put us in.
I don’t like it either, but financial meltdown is where we’re headed without it.
Well, we DID have Sergeant Schultz providing oversight to Wall Street, but this bailout proposal is crazier than anything Klinger ever pulled. So I think there are elements of both shows.
With a little bit of Reaper thrown in for good measure.
but is it frozen? my credit union hasn’t even lowered credit card limits. they are still making loans (mortgages, etc). part of my problem is that it’s like having tunnel vision to see such a small bit. so much is opaque to me.
guess i want some transparency. i don’t trust bushco. i want the data, not just his fear mongering. i react with resistance to it – like the boy who called wolf. of course, this time it could be real. but how would i know?
morning all,just a drive by…REPUKES got nuttin
i like Naomi Kleins idea, been saying it for a year
NATIONALIZE the pil companies…like HUGO
I saw a diary on this. That is what Chile (?) did successfully, or so I read. I’m at the mercy of those more knowledgeable but this seemed like a good idea.
After reading a few of the Enron books, I’ve learned that corps. and their lawyers will do anything to game the system. I don’t want to be gouged more than I already have been. For that reason, I fear the bailout because it will never work the way it’s presented. Corps. will have their lawyers scour it and find a way to make the US Treasury their personal piggy banks.
I have trouble getting around the fact that giving a pile of money to people working with a bad/failed business model is a good idea isn’t that what got us into this bloody mess in the first place. People making bad loans?
dang it…OIL COs
The solution to crisis.
1. Nationalize the banks
2 Reinstitute the draft
3. Draft everyone with a wall street job
4. Replace everyone in Iraq & afghanistan with new draftees
5. Place returning vets in positions at wall street
If everyone tries to cash out their mutual funds, etc, at once, there isn’t enough money around to pay out.
new Christy upstairs
McCain/Palin: The Week That Was…Thus Far…But It’s Not Done Yet…Oh God…
I’m afraid a financial meltdown is where we’re headed with it, but this is a $700,000,000,000 band-aid to delay the big crash until after Nov. 4.
Don’t we all, but we ain’t gonna get it.
The part of the financial system that is frozen (gosh, gotta be really careful here to be specific) is the big financial players that finance the bulk of the economy. The evidence for that is what all the participants are saying. That’s all you’ll get. It is my experience from past crises that when they say that and when the Fed, Treasury, and congress are working around the clock, it is true.
McSame wanting to postpone the debate is a ploy. He wants to go to Washington and grandstand during the bail-out bill negotiations. He will then come back in the debate and take credit, thinking Americans will fall for it. Some undoubtedly will.
I have to agree. Not seeing any effects here either. Mr.Solai manages a car dealership (please don’t hate me). I asked him if he’s having trouble getting people financing. The answer was ‘no’. No problem at all. He sees no difference in that area.
Klinger is not a billionaire. He could be a Dr. Evil. But tee vee fiction is not sufficient to describe this class of subhumans. This is a new breed created in a neo-con laboratory, to conquer the world.
For the haves and have mores the situation is indeed dire. What if Obama wins they may have to clean our own toilets,o the shame.
Thanks for that, but no apology necessary.
I’ll try to offer more clarity of my positions when I have time later today.
I like your idea the best.
Absolutely agree. The stock market is just a silly way for the rich to play games and keep score it means squat to me. If they took the trillion dollars they are talking about, raised wages to a living wage and gave us National Health care we could all pay our bloody mortgages and credit card bills. The fact of the matter they do not want us to pay our bills or the whole credit market would go to hell and all those fat fucking cats would have to sell their private jets and give up their whores.
We the people have not put our money in our mattresses yet.
There you have it, at the level of the REAL economy (not the fake economy on Wall Street), there is no “financial crisis”.
As for McCain’s photo-op crap in DC…this is an attempt by Bush to pull McCain’s bacon out of the fire AND queer the deal that the Dems have already pretty much nailed down. What is there to even talk about with upwards of 98% of the details already worked out? I say this is an attempt by Bush to screw the deal and get more of Paulson’s Pinochet deal through.
I truly hope that Obama pushes hard for the economy to be a major part of Friday’s debate. McInsane has barely prepared for the foreign policy debate – he would be totally fucked if the economy came into it. He’d have to do stream-of-thought which, for his melanoma-addled mind, means slur incomprehensible words and drool.
The big financial players that means hedgefunds, pension funds etc if they go down they take a few banks and the stockmarket. Which would hurt the rich but banks could still lend money right?
New home loans would need more collateral but I am not seeing how this hurts normal folks.
Apparently Sarah can see both Russia and Witches from her house.
Imagine for a moment if there were a video similar to this featuring Obama rather than Palin!
Got Voodoo?
Someone on another thread suggested the possiblity of Bell’s palsy or a smallish stroke.
Also feasible, in my view.
The MSM should ask Sarah if she believes in Witches and Magic:)
Well, taking down Fannie & Freddie certainly put a crimp in housing finance. And a lot of the MBS ended up in hedge funds in some kind of derivative or leveraged way, so they’re not irrelevant to Main St., i.e., if some “investors” disappear then the system has to contract unless others can be found.
MBS?
thanks. but i guess without your experience, i’m not satisfied with that from them. at this moment, i’m inclined to just say “no” without, at the very least, more verifiable information.
I’ve certainly started to. I’ve purchased gold coins and bought rights to more. THAT is equivalent to putting real money in a mattress because that doesn’t feed into the ponzi scheme/pyramid scheme that is Wall Street and the financial system.
I encourage you all to do likewise. Don’t put ALL your eggs in the gold basket but put a few eggs in that basket…and take you bogus money out of circulation in favor of REAL money (as real as money can be at any rate).
Mortgage Backed Securities.
I’ve been meaning to ask do you have any idea about what should be done?
But if the investment is a good investment then investors will come, if it is a bad investment then it should fail.
hey, kay — you’re right about collins. she licks her finger and holds it over the senate floor to see which way the wind’s blowing. Just like Palin did with Couric last night. I say everyone in the streets, march on congress this weekend. NO bailout. Whoever said we’re f8cked no matter whether we bail these weezers out or not was dead on right.
The fact that this is ‘happening’ (nothing is really happening here, just market diving) a month before the election that McCain is poised to lose is too much of a coincidence for me. It’s the new 9/11, brought to you by repubs who have recently realized they can’t rig enough voting machines to overwhelm Obama’s 9 point lead and the massive turnouts that are expected in Nov. I am sickened by this, and can only hope Obama doesn’t get sucker punched (as it appears he may be) into agreeing with this scam. If he succombs, he’s not the guy we need.
IN THE STREETS FOLKS — take your anger where it belongs and march on washington now. God I’d love to see that. It might not change things, but would renew my faith that we haven’t become a nation of overdosed despairing couch potatoes.
I’ll chime in here before eCAHNomics…
I recommend what I call the “Mussolini Option”, should the bailout go through and screw the taxpayer. There are plenty of street light poles in NY and DC and rope is easy to obtain and there are plenty of people in this debacle that deserve to see the end of said ropes…
No (well yes in a general way) because I have no idea how bad the internals of the credit markets are. And the credit markets are no longer about taking deposits and making loans. They are about originating loans, packaging them, reselling them as securities. So they end up all over the place & as selise sez, there is NO transparency.
There wasn’t any transparency in the old days either because traditional lenders did not release enough info to be able to tell the quality of their loan portfolio. But when they got into trouble, at least the examiners could go in & find out. When the loans end up all over the place, even the people working on the problem can only guess.
If enough bad investments fail, so will the overall economy.
Bring your garbage/trash and dump it on the Capitol steps like some protesters are doing on Wall Street. HERE’S your junk that you are using OUR money to buy in order to save the wealthy from having to work for a living.
Then I guess they weren’t worth a crap anyway and shouldn’t be the basis of a sane economy.
Aha, the scales are falling from your eyes. But now that we have them, how do we minimize the damage?
The big deal will be to select the least bad bailout now and regulate so that it doesn’t happen again, and it will be worse the next time.
But there is no sign from either party that that will happen.
Gotta go.
wonderful imagery! think it will happen in DC? I’ll actually be surprised if it doesn’t given the news that congress is overwhelmed with calls and emails that oppose the “plan”.
I think a blank check will just encourage the banks to keep doing what they have been doing which is why they need money. Think of it as giving an alky the keys to a wine cellar they will be dead in a year.
Also we do not have $700 billion Japan, China, Europe don’t have the cash to buy that many T-bills, devaluing the Dollar will not be enough either.
[edited by MOD: please no threats of violence, real or imaginary, thank you.]
obama should present a debate with someone, I am sure paul would love to debate, I say allow it
I still do not understand why we should be looking to prop up bad investments. If the model does not work then the model must be changed (Socialism is my choice) not propped up.
Ok first we need real numbers then before we hand out cash I take it. Cool you can’t solve a problem without knowing how big it really is.
no fire walls now (glass-steagall)? would that make a difference?
imo, the only leverage we have for regulation is the bail out. once a bail out is passed, there will be no regulation.
That is true IF the entire enchilada is paid out. If only a partial payment is made, regulation can be forced through after the next President is sworn in (since Bush would veto any attempt).
epu-ed, but right on!
If WS dropped 4000 points today, it wouldn’t make a tinkers damn of difference around here. Might well help. Get the overvalued unethical pirate paper out of the economy. Vinegar to flush the system.
The greedy bastards in NY and DC would never let that happen.
Absolutely. If the rich man’s score card went they way of the dinosaur it would mean diddly except that useless paper would be shown to be what it is.
From 163 on the previous thread. There are too many videos for links. Just google European Parliament 911 and they will be there for you.
The hearings were held in the EU Parliament on Feb. 26,2008. Didn’t hear about it on MSM? I’m shocked, shocked I tell ya..
There is also a documentary that is blacklisted in the USA….Zero. Russia played the whole thing on national tv a few days ago. Europe is playing it, too. The link is at 163.
Maybe Cindy keeps playing with his off/on switch? She follows him everywhere just like Mary and her little lamb? He has as much animation as a robot.
