The kicker here is that they view physical problems: medical or economic as capable of being overcome essentially by the power of the will. It’s a good religion for Type A personalties who have a “I got mine, Jack” attitude. It is what scares me about Paulson, that if he just wills it enough, if he goes for broke (with our money) he will succeed not because his ideas are sound but because he made it happen.
