- Obama regains lead in electoral college polls.
- George W. Bush is now a flaming socialist.
- New study — violence waned before "Surge" started.
- This is really not helpful.
- Sarah Palin — Bircher?
- My friends, she knows more about energy than anyone.
- And she just won the 2008 Rubber Dodo Award!
- I really am looking forward to the veep debate.
- Today, McPalin is in MN; Obama is in FL; Biden in VA.

Zed?
Good morning BT. Thanks for the link fest.
BT – that Marc Ambinder link is a beauty. How come FDL is the only place I hear Bidens remarks reported?
Must be that damn liberal media again… …or my lack of TV watching.
Be very, very careful of the spelling on that award…
Just sayin’.
No extra letters.
Especially in the middle.
Of the bird’s name.
Like an “L”.
He doesn’t get on tv much. Incorrect anatomical parts for that kind of coverage.
EPU’d from downstairs:
If you ask me, Todd and Sarah Palin are planning John McCain’s demise.
Love the new ad. Hope it gets lots of play.
I know Obama has a financial plan, but has he addressed the issue of this latest crisis? Does he support this huge bailout?
Good morning all,
I had been wondering where those Birchers were hiding. Is the flouridation of water going to become an issue?
I just heard on CNN that Obama has his own ideas on the bailout but he is withholding them to prevent possible parallels between his ideas and anything the Fed/Treas/Congress comes up with aren’t subject to “partisan wrangling” just because Obama said them first.
How elitist of him…
I know there is a lot of hating on the financial markets here, but what happened yda re: the RTC style bailout was absolutely necessary.
The appropriate questions now are “Who is at fault for getting us into this mess?” and “What took so long for Paulson & SEC chrmn. Cox to take definitive action?”
One answer to the first question:
First name — Phil
Last name — Gramm
Will he and all the Republican ideologues that have pushed deregulation since Reagan (a return to Hoover economic pollicies of the 20’s) be held accountable? They believe in socialism for the rich and the well connected and for everyone else, you’re on your own.
Does it come with batteries?
He will no doubt add this to his list of “to do later so I will not have to take a stand”. Bloody DLC wimp.
Mornin’.
am leaning towards agreeing on the necessity of the new entity
but I really, really, really like that it will swing the Keating/S&L door WIDE OPEN :D
and this prev. linked 1 pager by James Moore sets the Talking Points Table quite nicely:
I had forgotten -
Keating pulled Greenspan out of his ass when he didn’t like the way things were trending wrt regulation
They delayed the bailout until after the 08 election:
James Moore (a real Texan)
so vote republican bad ass
Barbie and her boy toy are due in my fair city in a few hours. We have just begun to recover from the plague of Republicans a couple weeks ago. Here we go again. Some of us snarkers wanted to hold a rally similar to the one in Anchorage, i.e., Minnesota Women Reject Palin. Read my red lips: No. More. Republicans. In. White House. Obama people vetoed idea, and are holding a conventional rally miles away from where the GOP duo will be speaking. Borrrrrrrrrrrrring. Off to radiation and chemo. Woo hoo!
Actually:
First Name: David
Last Name: Rockefeller
They ALL work for him. And now, so do you.
Balderdash, piffle and trash. Let the bastards go under it will not effect the “average” person one way or another. We are so damn broke now a few extra dollars will make not a whit of difference. IF, and I emphasize if, the business is “too big to fail” the monied mater forkers will bail the damn thing out themselves. This whole bail out scheme is just a way to redistribute even more money to the very rich before bushco leaves us alone. All this bull about to “too big to fail” is propaganda. What is “too big to fail” is the remaining meager existence of the average american. bushco should be bailing out the poor people who are living in hopes they do not get sick, the school system that is broke, the infrastructure that has gone to hell, the people working two or three jobs just to keep head above water (literally in NO). “Too big to fail” my arse.
Obama Statement
DLC or not, he does not have the luxury of do-overs the media affords the McIdiot Campaign.
as Finemann said last night, he has to measure twice, cut once
Personal attacks are childish.
Well let’s see…it looks like a math problem. Reduced to it’s lowest denomination..banks stocks are depressed, Bush/McCain give a trillion $ or so to the bankers, the bankers buy back their stock at .05 cents on the $1. Seems fair considering the innocent bankers are just the victims of too much regulation in the first place.
For the 10,000th time, Obama is not in the DLC.
So what? Might as well be.
Ron Paul outs Shadow Government:
The last para is telling. To paraphrase “I will keep playing my fiddle and trust you to stop rome burning”.
obama is not a solution he is just another CEO of the corporation america.
True, very true.
What crap, you run your mouth talking about “wimps”. Only a bad ass would do that.
Mr McCain:
In my mind, that has to happen.
It’s not optional. And to Obama’s credit, I’ve heard him occasionally say “They (repugs) must own this mess.” He has to hammer this relentlessly from now to the elections.
Deregulation is primarily responsible for this, and McCain & Gramm have been the drum majors in that parade.
Shouldn’t there be a provision in this new bail-out operation that any company selling bad debt into it also has to contribute all the personal assets of the top levels of management, even including everything they have off-shored while pillaging us?
Off track: just heard the first sand hill cranes of the season flying over. Finally, good news.
Sarah and Todd have the potential of being to politics what Tonya Harding and Jeff Gilooly were to ice skating.
Yes there should be.
OT
Broadwing Hawks moving through here.
I know there is a desire to embrace obama as the “saviour” but he is nothing special. He has taken over 7 mill from the med/pharm/ins industry (Mother Jones) and has a health care plan that is a sop to the med/farm/ins industry. He has buckled under to the FISA fuckup, he has chosen, as his veep, a man that is part of the banking problem not the solution. Biden, though I like him personally, is the one that pushed the bankruptcy law through which does not do well for middle class america but is wonderful for the credit card companies. obama is an ordinary american that plays the political game as one must to become pres.
The Republicans broke it, they own it. Will it ever sink in to the consciousness of the American public that Republicans can only destroy the economy, never save it.
Nope. If Ds win prez, Ds will own economy.
Saviour my dyin ass, dude is a centerist democrat. What a brilliant revelation that he has to play the political game to get elected. No one here had any idea that that was the case until we were “educated”. Give me a break.
A centrist Democrat in the U.S. would be considered a conservative in Western Europe.
Respectfully, I could not disagree more.
Trust me, I feel where you are coming from, after all this is a progressive blog. But letting the financial markets continue to melt down while you laugh at the TV wouldn’t be the way to go.
Ask the “average” person about their IRA or 401(K) balances this year.
Lots of “average” people, maybe even yourself, have cash in a money market account. How would these “average” people react to that fund ‘breaking the buck’, or $1 net asset value that these funds promise?
The thing to do now is hold the bastards that allowed this to happen accountable, those on Wall Street and in congress.
can’t recall, are you near Hawk Mountain, or am I thinking of twolf ?
that’s me :)
Yep. Yep. Yep. Have you noticed how vague they are when describing the financial mess? (The MSM and the politicians, that is…)
Off track: just heard the first sand hill cranes of the season flying over. Finally, good news.
Lucky, you are. That must be *so* wonderful to see and hear.
Christy’s up!
Why Larry Kudlow Is Full Of Crap: Let Me Count The Ways
And immediately. It will have happened presto chango overnight……..and it’s all the Dems’ fault!
Thus saith the republics and corporate media. :-(
I support Obama, not as a savior, but as the best candidate now available.
We are now down to Obama and McCain.
And, by the way, I do think he’s special. I don’t know what else to call someone with his background that beat the presumed Democratic nominee, has run an excellent campaign, and has a chance to become the first African American POTUS.
I don’t see ‘average’ there.
And then there’s Baghdad’s traumatised children.
Perfect…Lest we forget.
Mark my words…..McCain won’t garner 200 Electoral votes and will lose the popular vote by double digits. Senator Coleman will lose to Franken and Senator Dole will lose to Hagan. Every state at http://www.electoral-vote.com that is currently leaning Republican by 3 percentage points or less will break Democratic. The back-breaker will be Missouri, which is currently leaning Republican by 5 percentage points. Obama will win MO, IN, OH, PA and FL. McCain will deservedly become irrelevant and seek solace in his world of lobbyists and elitists who couldn’t care less about America’s middle and lower classes. McCain’s ignorance and arrogance are only exceeded by his insensitivity. He and George W. Bush are kindred self-delusional mean-spirits who will live out the remainder of their deceitful opportunistic lives never recognizing that the majority of Americans saw them as failed public servants.
Say What, Sarah?!?
